Graded Naimark's Problem for Leavitt Path Algebras

In this paper we study the graded version of Naimark's problem for Leavitt path algebras considering them as $\mathbb{Z}$-graded algebras. Several characterizations are obtained of a Leavitt path algebra $L$ of an arbitrary graph $E$ over a field $\mathbb{K}$ over which any two graded-simple modules are graded isomorphic. Such a Leavitt path algebra $L$ is shown to be graded isomorphic to the algebra of graded infinite matrices having at most finitely many non-zero entries from the ring $R$ where $R=\mathbb{K}$ or $R=\mathbb{K}[x,x^{-1}]$. Equivalently, $L$ is a graded-simple ring which is graded-semisimple, that is, $L$ is a graded direct sum of graded-isomorphic graded-simple left $L$-modules. Graphically, the graph $E$ is shown to be row-finite, downward directed and the vertex set $E^{0}$ is the hereditary saturated closure of a single vertex $v$ which is either a line point or lies on a cycle without exits. We also characterize Leavitt path algebras possessing at most countably many isomorphism classes of graded-simple left modules. Examples are constructed illustrating these results.

Naimark's Problem for graph C*-algebras and Leavitt path algebras

We describe how boundary paths in a graph can be used to construct irreducible representations of the associated graph C*-algebra and the associated Leavitt path algebra. We use this construction to establish two sets of results: First, we prove that Naimark's Problem has an affirmative answer for graph C*-algebras, we prove that the algebraic analogue of Naimark's Problem has an affirmative answer for Leavitt path algebras, and we give necessary and sufficient conditions on the graphs for the hypotheses of Naimark's Problem to be satisfied. Second, we characterize when a graph C*-algebra has a countable (i.e., finite or countably infinite) spectrum, and prove that in this case the unitary equivalence classes of irreducible representations are in one-to-one correspondence with the shift-tail equivalence classes of the boundary paths of the graph.

Distinguishing Leavitt algebras among Leavitt path algebras of finite graphs by Serre property

Two unanswered questions in the heart of the theory of Leavitt path algebras are whether Grothendieck group $K_0$ is a complete invariant for the class of unital purely infinite simple algebras and, a weaker question, whether $L_2$ (the Leavitt path algebra associated to a vertex with two loops) and its Cuntz splice algebra $L_{2-}$ are isomorphic. The positive answer to the first question implies the latter. In this short paper, we raise and investigate another question, the so-called Serre's conjecture, which sits in between of the above two questions: The positive answer to the classification question implies Serre's conjecture which in turn implies $L_2 \cong L_{2-}$. Along the way, we give new easy to construct algebras having stable free but not free modules.

A note on the Diximier-Mouglin Equivalence in Leavitt path algebras of arbitrary graphs over a field

The Dixmier-Moeglin Equivalence (for short, the DM-equivalence) is the equivalence of three distinguishing properties of prime ideals in a non-commutative algebra A. These properties are of (i) being primitive, (ii) being rational, and (iii) being locally closed in the Zariski topology of Spec(A). The DM-equivalence holds in many interesting algebras over a field. Recently, it was shown that the prime ideals of a Leavitt path algebra of a finite graph satisfy the DM-equivalence, In this note, we investigate the occurrence of the DM-equivalence in a Leavitt path algebra L of an arbitrary directed graph E. Our analysis shows that locally closed prime ideals of L satisfy interesting equivalent properties such as being strongly primitive and completely irreducible. Examples illustrate the results and the constraints.

Products and Intersections of Prime-Power Ideals in Leavitt Path Algebras

We continue a very fruitful line of inquiry into the multiplicative ideal theory of an arbitrary Leavitt path algebra L. Specifically, we show that factorizations of an ideal in L into irredundant products or intersections of finitely many prime-power ideals are unique, provided that the ideals involved are powers of distinct prime ideals. We also characterize the completely irreducible ideals in L, which turn out to be prime-power ideals of a special type, as well as ideals that can be factored into products or intersections of finitely many completely irreducible ideals.

Products of Ideals in Leavitt Path Algebras

Ideals in Leavitt path algebras have been shown to share many properties with those of integral domains. Since studying factorizations of ideals in integral domains into special types of ideals (particularly, prime, prime-power, primary, irreducible, semiprime, and quasi-primary ones) has proved fruitful, we conduct an analogous investigation in the context of Leavitt path algebras. Specifically, we classify the proper ideals in these rings that admit factorizations into products of each of the above types of ideals. We also classify the Leavitt path algebras where every proper ideal admits a factorization of each of these sorts, as well as those Leavitt path algebras where every proper ideal is of one of those types.

On Prüfer-Like Properties of Leavitt Path Algebras

Prüfer domains and subclasses of integral domains such as Dedekind domains admit characterizations by means of the properties of their ideal lattices. Interestingly, a Leavitt path algebra $L$, in spite of being non-commutative and possessing plenty of zero divisors, seems to have its ideal lattices possess the characterizing properties of these special domains. In [8] it was shown that the ideals of $L$ satisfy the distributive law, a property of Prüfer domains and that $L$ is a multiplication ring, a property of Dedekind domains. In this paper, we first show that $L$ satisfies two more characterizing properties of Prüfer domains which are the ideal versions of two theorems in Elementary Number Theory, namely, for positive integers $a,b,c$, $\gcd(a,b)\cdot\operatorname{lcm}(a,b)=a\cdot b$ and $a\cdot \operatorname{gcd}(b,c)=\operatorname{gcd}(ab,ac)$. We also show that $L$ satisfies a characterizing property of almost Dedekind domains in terms of the ideals whose radicals are prime ideals. Finally, we give necessary and sufficient conditions under which $L$ satisfies another important characterizing property of almost Dedekind domains, namely the cancellative property of its non-zero ideals.

A survey of some of the recent developments in Leavitt path algebras

This survey of the recent developments in the investigations of a Leavitt path algebra L of an arbitrary graph E over a field K consists of two parts. In the first part describes how very often a single graph property of E implies multiple ring properties of L, thus making Leavitt path algebras effective tools in constructing rings of various desirable properties. The second part describes methods of constructing simple modules over L and characterizes Leavitt path algebras all of whose simple modules possess some specific properties such as being flat, finitely presented, being graded, injective etc.

Structure theory of graded regular graded self-injective rings and applications

In this paper, we develop structure theory for graded regular graded self-injective rings and apply it in the context of Leavitt path algebras. We show that for a finite graph, graded regular graded self-injective Leavitt path algebras are of graded type I and these are precisely graded $Σ$-$V$ Leavitt path algebras.

Chains of Semiprime and Prime Ideals in Leavitt Path Algebras

Semiprime ideals of an arbitrary Leavitt path algebra L are described in terms of their generators. This description is then used to show that the semiprime ideals form a complete sublattice of the lattice of ideals of L, and they enjoy a certain gap property identified by Kaplansky in prime spectra of commutative rings. It is also shown that the totally ordered sets that can be realized as prime spectra of Leavitt path algebras are precisely those that have greatest lower bounds on subchains and enjoy the aforementioned gap property. Finally, it is shown that a conjecture of Kaplansky regarding identifying von Neumann regular rings via their prime factors holds for Leavitt path algebras.

Leavitt path algebras: Graded direct-finiteness and graded $Σ$-injective simple modules

In this paper, we give a complete characterization of Leavitt path algebras which are graded $Σ$-$V$ rings, that is, rings over which a direct sum of arbitrary copies of any graded simple module is graded injective. Specifically, we show that a Leavitt path algebra $L$ over an arbitrary graph $E$ is a graded $Σ$-$V$ ring if and only if it is a subdirect product of matrix rings of arbitrary size but with finitely many non-zero entries over $K$ or $K[x,x^{-1}]$ with appropriate matrix gradings. We also obtain a graphical characterization of such a graded $Σ$-$V$ ring $L$% . When the graph $E$ is finite, we show that $L$ is a graded $Σ$-$V$ ring $\Longleftrightarrow L$ is graded directly-finite $\Longleftrightarrow L $ has bounded index of nilpotence $\Longleftrightarrow $ $L$ is graded semi-simple. Examples show that the equivalence of these properties in the preceding statement no longer holds when the graph $E$ is infinite. Following this, we also characterize Leavitt path algebras $L$ which are non-graded $Σ$-$V$ rings. Graded rings which are graded directly-finite are explored and it is shown that if a Leavitt path algebra $L$ is a graded $Σ$-$V$ ring, then $L$ is always graded directly-finite. Examples show the subtle differences between graded and non-graded directly-finite rings. Leavitt path algebras which are graded directly-finite are shown to be directed unions of graded semisimple rings. Using this, we give an alternative proof of a theorem of Vaš \cite{V} on directly-finite Leavitt path algebras.

Leavitt path algebras with bounded index of nilpotence and simple modules over them

In this paper we completely describe graphically Leavitt path algebras with bounded index of nilpotence and show that each graded simple module $S$ over a Leavitt path algebra with bounded index of nilpotence is graded $Σ$-injective, that is, $S^{(α)}$ is graded injective for any cardinal $α$. Furthermore, we characterize Leavitt path algebras over which each simple module is $Σ$-injective. We have shown that each simple module over a Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E)$ is $Σ$-injective if and only if the graph $E$ contains no cycles, and there is a positive integer $d$ such that the length of any path in $E$ is less than or equal to $d$ and the number of distinct paths ending at any vertex $v$ (including $v$) is less than or equal to $d$.

The Multiplicative ideal theory of Leavitt Path Algebras

It is shown that every Leavitt path algebra L of an arbitrary directed graph E over a field K is an arithmetical ring, that is, the two-sided ideals of L form a distributive lattice. It is also shown that L is a multiplication ring, that is, given any two ideals A,B in L with A inside B, there is always an ideal C such that A = BC, an indication of a possible rich multiplicative ideal theory for L. Existence and uniqueness of factorization of the ideals of L as products of special types of ideals such as prime, irreducible or primary ideals is investigated. It turns out that the irreducible ideals of L are precisely the primary ideals of L. It is shown that an ideal I of L is a product of finitely many prime ideals if and only the graded part gr(I) of I is a product of prime ideals and I/gr(I) is finitely generated with a generating set of cardinality no more than the number of distinct prime ideals in the prime factorization of gr(I). As an application, it is shown that if E is a finite graph, then every ideal of L is a product of prime ideals. The same conclusion holds if L is two-sided artinian or two-sided noetherian.

On graded irreducible representations of Leavitt path algebras

Using the E-algebraic systems, various graded irreducible representations of a Leavitt path algebra L of a graph E over a field K are constructed. The concept of a Laurent vertex is introduced and it is shown that the minimal graded left ideals of L are generated by Laurent vertices and/or line points leading to a detailed description of the graded socle of L. Following this, a complete characterization is obtained of the Leavitt path algebras over which every graded irreducible representation is finitely presented. A useful result is that the irreducible representation V_[p] induced by infinite path tail-equivalent to an infinite path p is graded if and only if p is an irrational infinite path. We also show that every one-sided ideal of L is graded if and only if the graph E contains no cycles. Supplementing a theorem of one of the co-authors that every Leavitt path algebra is graded von Neumann regular, we describe the graded self-injective Leavitt path algebras. These turn out to be direct sums of matrix rings of arbitrary size over K and k[x,x^-1].

Leavitt path algebras with finitely presented irreducible representations

Let E be an arbitrary graph, K be any field and let L be the corresponding Leavitt path algebra. Necessary and sufficient conditions (which are both algebraic and graphical) are given under which all the irreducible representations of L are finitely presented. In this case, the graph E turns out to be row finite and the cycles in E form an artinian partial ordered set under a defined preorder. When the graph E is finite, the above graphical conditions were shown to be equivalent to the algebra L having finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension in a paper by Alahmadi, Alsulami, Jain and Zelmanov. Examples are constructed showing that this equivalence no longer holds if the graph is infinite and a complete description is obtained of Leavitt path algebras over arbitrary graphs having finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension

Leavitt path algebras satisfying a polynomial identity

Leavitt path algebras L of an arbitrary graph E over a field K satisfying a polynomial identity are completely characterized both in graph-theoretic and algebraic terms. When E is a finite graph, L satisfying a polynomial identity is shown to be equivalent to the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of L being at most one, though this is no longer true for infinite graphs. It is shown that, for an arbitrary graph E, the Leavitt path algebra L has Gelfand-Kirillov dimension zero if and only if E has no cycles. Likewise, L has Gelfand-Kirillov dimension one if and only if E contains at least one cycle, but no cycle in E has an exit.

Leavitt path algebras with at most countably many irreducible representatios

Let E be an arbitrary directed graph with no restrictions on the number of vertices and edges and let K be any field. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the Leavitt path algebra L_K(E) to be of countable irreducible representation type, that is, we determine when L_K(E)has at most countably many distinct isomorphism classes of simple left L_K(E-modules. It is also shown that L_K(E) has dinitely many isomorphism classes of simple left modules if and only if L_K(E) is a semi-artinian von Neumann regular ring with at most finitely many ideals. Equivalent conditions on the graph E are also given. Examples are constructed showing that for each (finite or infinite) cardinal m there exists a Leavitt path algebra L having exactly m distinct isomorphism classes of simple left modules.

Notes on Simple Modules over Leavitt Path Algebras

Given an arbitrary graph E and any field K, a new class of simple left modules over the Leavitt path algebra L of the graph E over K is constructed by using vertices that emit infinitely many edges. The corresponding annihilating primitive ideals are described and is used to show that these new class of simple L-modules are different from(that is non-isomorphic to) any of the previously known simple modules. Using a Boolean subring of idempotents induced by paths in E, bounds for the cardinality of the set of distinct isomorphism classes of simple L-modules are given. We also append other information about the Leavitt path algebra L(E) of a finite graph E over which every simple left module is finitely presented.
