DiffuRank: Effective Document Reranking with Diffusion Language Models

Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) have inspired new paradigms for document reranking. While this paradigm better exploits the reasoning and contextual understanding capabilities of LLMs, most existing LLM-based rerankers rely on autoregressive generation, which limits their efficiency and flexibility. In particular, token-by-token decoding incurs high latency, while the fixed left-to-right generation order causes early prediction errors to propagate and is difficult to revise. To address these limitations, we explore the use of diffusion language models (dLLMs) for document reranking and propose DiffuRank, a reranking framework built upon dLLMs. Unlike autoregressive models, dLLMs support more flexible decoding and generation processes that are not constrained to a left-to-right order, and enable parallel decoding, which may lead to improved efficiency and controllability. Specifically, we investigate three reranking strategies based on dLLMs: (1) a pointwise approach that uses dLLMs to estimate the relevance of each query-document pair; (2) a logit-based listwise approach that prompts dLLMs to jointly assess the relevance of multiple documents and derives ranking lists directly from model logits; and (3) a permutation-based listwise approach that adapts the canonical decoding process of dLLMs to the reranking tasks. For each approach, we design corresponding training methods to fully exploit the advantages of dLLMs. We evaluate both zero-shot and fine-tuned reranking performance on multiple benchmarks. Experimental results show that dLLMs achieve performance comparable to, and in some cases exceeding, that of autoregressive LLMs with similar model sizes. These findings demonstrate the promise of diffusion-based language models as a compelling alternative to autoregressive architectures for document reranking.

Mechanism of Electricacupuncture Treating Detrusor Bladder Neck Dyscoordination After Suprasacral Spinal Cord Injury by Proteomics

Objectives This study aimed to elucidate the potential mechanisms of electroacupuncture (EA) in restoring detrusor-bladder neck dyssynergesia (DBND) following suprasacral spinal cord injury. Methods A total of 52 adult female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to either a sham group (n=12) or a spinal cord injury model group (n=40). In the model group, DBND was induced in 40 rats through Hassan Shaker spinal cord transection, with 24 rats surviving spinal shock and subsequently randomized into two groups: a model-only group (DBND, n=12) and an EA intervention group (DBND+EA, n=12). DBND+EA was administered at Ciliao (BL32), Zhongji (RN3), and Sanyinjiao (SP6) acupoints, for 20 minutes per session, once daily for 10 consecutive days. On day 29 post-injury, all rats underwent urodynamic assessments, followed by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, tandem mass tag (TMT) proteomics, and Western blot (WB) analysis of the detrusor and bladder neck tissues. Results Urodynamic evaluation demonstrated that EA intervention enhanced bladder function in DBND rats. HE staining indicated reduced fibroplasia in the detrusor muscle and alleviated inflammation in the bladder neck following EA. TMT proteomic analysis revealed 30 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in the detrusor and 59 DEPs in the bladder neck post-EA treatment. WB results corroborated these TMT findings. Conclusion EA effectively promotes synergy between the detrusor muscle and bladder neck in DBND, likely by enhancing detrusor contractility and facilitating bladder neck relaxation during urination. This study provides mechanistic insights into the therapeutic role of EA in managing DBND.

Study of the mechanism of electroacupuncture regulating ferroptosis, inhibiting bladder neck fibrosis, and improving bladder urination function after suprasacral spinal cord injury using proteomics

Purpose The aim of this study was to explore whether electroacupuncture regulates phenotypic transformation of smooth muscle cells by inhibiting ferroptosis and inhibiting fibrosis, thereby improving bladder urination function after suprasacral spinal cord injury (SSCI). Methods The experiment was divided into sham, model, and electroacupuncture group. After 10 days of electroacupuncture intervention, urodynamic examination was performed, and bladder neck was taken for HE staining, tandem mass tag (TMT)-based quantitative proteomics analysis, Western blot(WB) detection, ferrous ion concentration detection and Masson staining. Conclusion Electroacupuncture may prevent the phenotype of bladder neck smooth muscle cells from transforming from contraction type to synthesis type by inhibiting ferroptosis, inhibit bladder neck fibrosis, improve bladder neck compliance, and thus improve bladder urination function after SSCI.

Tunable magnetic properties in van der Waals crystals (Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_5$GeTe$_2$

We report the doping effects of cobalt on van der Waals (vdW) magnet Fe$_5$GeTe$_2$. A series of (Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_5$GeTe$_2$ (0$\leq$x$\leq$0.44) single crystals have been successfully grown, their structural, magnetic and transport properties are investigated. For x=0.20, The Curie temperature $T_C$ increases from 276~K to 337~K. Moreover, the magnetic easy-axis is reoriented to the $ab$-plane from the $c$-axis in undoped Fe$_5$GeTe$_2$ with largely enhanced magnetic anisotropy. These magnetic properties would make (Fe$_{0.8}$Co$_{0.2}$)$_5$GeTe$_2$ more effective in stabilizing magnetic order in the two-dimensional limit. A complex magnetic phase diagram is identified on the higher doping side. The x=0.44 crystal first orders ferromagnetically at $T_C$=363~K then undergoes an antiferromagnetic transition at $T_N$=335~K. Furthermore magnetic-field-induced spin-flop transitions are observed for the AFM ground state. Our work reveals (Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_5$GeTe$_2$ as promising candidates for developing new spin-related applications and proposes a method to engineer the magnetic properties of vdW magnet.
