The structure of kagome superconductors CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ in the charge density wave states

The structure of charge density wave states in AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = K, Rb, Cs) kagome superconductors remains elusive, with three possible $2a\times2a\times2c$ candidates: tri-hexagonal, star-of-David, and their mixture. In this study, we conducted a systematic first-principles investigation of the nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra for the $2a\times2a\times2c$ CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ structures. By comparing our simulations with experimental data, we have concluded that the NQR spectrum indicates the tri-hexagonal structure as the proper structure for CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ after its charge density wave phase transition. The NMR calculation results obtained from the tri-hexagonal structure are also consistent with the experimental data.

Syntropic spin alignment at the interface between ferromagnetic and superconducting nitrides

The magnetic correlations at the superconductor/ferromagnet (S/F) interfaces play a crucial role in realizing dissipation-less spin-based logic and memory technologies, such as triplet-supercurrent spin-valves and "π" Josephson junctions. Here we report the coexistence of an induced large magnetic moment and a crypto ferromagnetic state at high-quality nitride S/F interfaces. Using polarized neutron reflectometry and d. c. SQUID measurements, we quantitatively determined the magnetization profile of S/F bilayer and confirmed the induced magnetic moment in the adjacent superconductor only exists below TC. Interestingly, the direction of the induced moment in the superconductors was unexpectedly parallel to that in the ferromagnet, which contrasts with earlier findings in S/F heterostructures based on metals or oxides. The first-principles calculations verify the observed unusual interfacial spin texture is caused by the Heisenberg direct exchange coupling through d orbital overlapping and severe charge transfer across the interfaces. Our work establishes an incisive experimental probe for understanding the magnetic proximity behavior at S/F interfaces and provides a prototype epitaxial building block for superconducting spintronics.

Source-independent quantum random number generator against tailored detector blinding attacks

Randomness, mainly in the form of random numbers, is the fundamental prerequisite for the security of many cryptographic tasks. Quantum randomness can be extracted even if adversaries are fully aware of the protocol and even control the randomness source. However, an adversary can further manipulate the randomness via tailored detector blinding attacks, which are hacking attacks suffered by protocols with trusted detectors. Here, by treating no-click events as valid events, we propose a quantum random number generation protocol that can simultaneously address source vulnerability and ferocious tailored detector blinding attacks. The method can be extended to high-dimensional random number generation. We experimentally demonstrate the ability of our protocol to generate random numbers for two-dimensional measurement with a generation speed of 0.1 bit per pulse.

The destiny of obstructed atomic insulator under correlation

The obstructed atomic insulators are insulators with both atomic limits and boundary states. In this work, we study the obstructed atomic insulators under correlation. We use the symmetry indicators by constructing many-body wavefunctions in momentum space to prove the obstruction properties in different models including the SSH chain, anisotropic square lattice model, the quadrupole insulator model and etc. We demonstrate that the obstruction properties with boundary modes persist at large $U$ where the charge freedom is well-gapped, namely, this insulator phase can smoothly connect to its Mott phase without Mott transition.

Mottness in two-dimensional van der Waals Nb$_3$X$_8$ monolayers (X=Cl, Br, and I)

We investigate strong electron-electron correlation effects on 2-dimensional van der Waals materials Nb$_3$X$_8$ (X=Cl, Br, I). We find that the monolayers Nb$_3$X$_8$ are ideal systems close to the strong correlation limit. They can be described by a half-filled single band Hubbard model in which the ratio between the Hubbard, U, and the bandwidth, W, U/W $\approx$ 5 $\sim$ 10. Both Mott and magnetic transitions of the material are calculated by the slave boson mean field theory. Doping the Mott state, a $d_{x^2-y^2}+id_{xy}$ superconducting pairing instability is found. We also construct a tunable bilayer Hubbard system for two sliding Nb$_3$X$_8$ layers. The bilayer system displays a crossover between the band insulator and Mott insulator.

Decoding flat bands from compact localized states

The flat band system is an ideal quantum platform to investigate the kaleidoscope created by the electron-electron correlation effects. The central ingredient of realizing a flat band is to find its compact localized states. In this work, we develop a systematic way to generate the compact localized states by designing destructive interference pattern from 1-dimensional chains. A variety of 2-dimensional new flat band systems are constructed with this method. Furthermore, we show that the method can be extended to generate the compact localized states in multi-orbital systems by carefully designing the block hopping scheme, as well as in quasicrystal and disorder systems.

Dimensionality-confined superconductivity within SrNbO3-SrTiO3 heterostructures

Interfaces between transition-metal oxides are able to host two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) and exhibit exotic quantum phenomena. Here we report the observation of superconductivity below 230 mK for the heterostructure composed of SrNbO3 (SNO) and SrTiO3 (STO). Different from some other counterparts with two insulators, the metallic SNO provides a novel mechanism to form a quasi 2DEG by charge transfer from bulk towards interface under strain. The superconductivity, residing within the strained SNO layer near the interface, is contributed by an electron system with record-low carrier density. Notably, although embedded in a normal metallic layer with a carrier density 4 to 5 orders higher, the electron system is still uniquely well-protected to retain high mobility and lies deep in extreme quantum regime.

Evolution of the strange-metal scattering in momentum space of electron-doped ${\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Ce}_x{\rm CuO}_4$

The linear-in-temperature resistivity is one of the important mysteries in the strange metal state of high-temperature cuprate superconductors. To uncover this anomalous property, the energy-momentum-dependent imaginary part of the self-energy Im ${\rm Σ}(k, ω)$ holds the key information. Here we perform systematic doping, momentum, and temperature-dependent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements of electron-doped cuprate ${\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Ce}_x{\rm CuO}_4$ and extract the evolution of the strange metal scattering in momentum space. At low doping levels and low temperatures, Im ${\rmΣ} \propto ω$ dependence dominates the whole momentum space. For high doping levels and high temperatures, Im ${\rmΣ} \propto ω^2$ shows up, starting from the antinodal region. By comparing with the hole-doped cuprates ${\rm La}_{2-x}{\rm Sr}_x{\rm CuO}_4$ and ${\rm Bi}_2{\rm Sr}_2{\rm CaCu}_2{\rm O}_8$, we find a dichotomy of the scattering rate exists along the nodal and antinodal direction, which is ubiquitous in the cuprate family. Our work provides new insight into the strange metal state in cuprates.

Bridging the View Disparity Between Radar and Camera Features for Multi-modal Fusion 3D Object Detection

Environmental perception with the multi-modal fusion of radar and camera is crucial in autonomous driving to increase accuracy, completeness, and robustness. This paper focuses on utilizing millimeter-wave (MMW) radar and camera sensor fusion for 3D object detection. A novel method that realizes the feature-level fusion under the bird's-eye view (BEV) for a better feature representation is proposed. Firstly, radar points are augmented with temporal accumulation and sent to a spatial-temporal encoder for radar feature extraction. Meanwhile, multi-scale image 2D features which adapt to various spatial scales are obtained by image backbone and neck model. Then, image features are transformed to BEV with the designed view transformer. In addition, this work fuses the multi-modal features with a two-stage fusion model called point-fusion and ROI-fusion, respectively. Finally, a detection head regresses objects category and 3D locations. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method realizes the state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance under the most crucial detection metrics-mean average precision (mAP) and nuScenes detection score (NDS) on the challenging nuScenes dataset.

Interplay between Pair Density Wave and a Nested Fermi Surface

We show that spontaneous time-reversal-symmetry (TRS) breaking can naturally arise from the interplay between pair density wave (PDW) ordering at multiple momenta and nesting of Fermi surfaces (FS). Concretely, we consider pair-density-wave superconductivity on a hexagonal lattice with nested FS at $3/4$ electron filling, which is related to a recently discovered superconductor CsV$_3$Sb$_5$. Because of nesting of the FS, each momentum $\bk$ on the FS has at least two counterparts $-\bk\pm\mathbf{Q}_α$ ($α=1,2,3$) on the FS to form finite momentum ($\pm\mathbf{Q}_α$) Cooper pairs, resulting in a TRS and inversion broken PDW state with stable Bogoliubov Fermi pockets. Various spectra, including (local) density of states, electron spectral function and the effect of quasi-particle interference, have been investigated. The partial melting of the PDW will give rise to $4\times{}4$ and $\frac{4}{\sqrt{3}}\times\frac{4}{\sqrt{3}}$ CDW orders, in addition to the $2\times2$ CDW. Possible implications to real materials such as CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ and future experiments have been further discussed.

Observation of superconductivity in the noncentrosymmetric nodal chain semimetal Ba5In4Bi5

The combination with superconductivity and topological nontrivial band structure provides a promising route towards novel quantum states such as topological superconductivity. Here, we report the first observation of superconductivity (4.1 K) in Ba5In4Bi5 single crystal, a noncentrosymmetric topological semimetal featuring nodal chain loops at the high-symmetry points R and X. The magnetization, resistivity, and specific heat capacity measurements reveal that Ba5In4Bi5 is a moderately coupled type-II Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductor. Bulk superconductivity is suggested from the magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements. The results show that Ba5In4Bi5 provides a new platform for exploring the relationship of superconductivity and topological nontrivial band topology.

General theory of Josephson Diodes

Motivated by recent progress in the superconductivity nonreciprocal phenomena, we study the general theory of Josephson diodes. The central ingredient for Josephson diodes is the asymmetric proximity process inside the tunneling barrier. From the symmetry breaking point of view, there are two types of Josephson diodes, inversion breaking and time-reversal breaking. For the inversion breaking case, applying voltage bias could effectively tune the proximity process like the voltage-dependent Rashba coupling or electric polarization giving rise to $I_c(V)\neq I_c(-V)$ and $I_{r+}\neq I_{r-}$. For the time-reversal breaking case, the current flow could adjust the internal time-reversal breaking field like magnetism or time-reversal breaking electron-electron pairing, which leads to $I_{c+}\neq I_{c-}$. All these results provide a complete understanding and the general principles of realizing Josephson diodes, especially the recently found NbSe$_2$/Nb$_3$Br$_8$/NbSe$_2$ Josephson diodes.

Map Container: A Map-based Framework for Cooperative Perception

The idea of cooperative perception is to benefit from shared perception data between multiple vehicles and overcome the limitations of on-board sensors on single vehicle. However, the fusion of multi-vehicle information is still challenging due to inaccurate localization, limited communication bandwidth and ambiguous fusion. Past practices simplify the problem by placing a precise GNSS localization system, manually specify the number of connected vehicles and determine the fusion strategy. This paper proposes a map-based cooperative perception framework, named map container, to improve the accuracy and robustness of cooperative perception, which ultimately overcomes this problem. The concept 'Map Container' denotes that the map serves as the platform to transform all information into the map coordinate space automatically and incorporate different sources of information in a distributed fusion architecture. In the proposed map container, the GNSS signal and the matching relationship between sensor feature and map feature are considered to optimize the estimation of environment states. Evaluation on simulation dataset and real-vehicle platform result validates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Long-Tail Prediction Uncertainty Aware Trajectory Planning for Self-driving Vehicles

A typical trajectory planner of autonomous driving commonly relies on predicting the future behavior of surrounding obstacles. Recently, deep learning technology has been widely adopted to design prediction models due to their impressive performance. However, such models may fail in the "long-tail" driving cases where the training data is sparse or unavailable, leading to planner failures. To this end, this work proposes a trajectory planner to consider the prediction model uncertainty arising from insufficient data for safer performance. Firstly, an ensemble network structure estimates the prediction model's uncertainty due to insufficient training data. Then a trajectory planner is designed to consider the worst-case arising from prediction uncertainty. The results show that the proposed method can improve the safety of trajectory planning under the prediction uncertainty caused by insufficient data. At the same time, with sufficient data, the framework will not lead to overly conservative results. This technology helps to improve the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles under the long-tail data distribution of the real world.

Cobalt-dimer Nitrides -- a Potential Novel Family of High Temperature Superconductors

We predict that the square lattice layer formed by [Co$_2$N$_2$]$^{2-}$ diamond-like units can host high temperature superconductivity. The layer appears in the stable ternary cobalt nitride, BaCo$_2$N$_2$. The electronic physics of the material stems from Co$_2$N$_2$ layers where the dimerized Co pairs form a square lattice. The low energy physics near Fermi energy can be described by an effective two orbital model. Without considering interlayer couplings, the two orbitals are effectively decoupled. This electronic structure satisfies the "gene" character proposed for unconventional high temperature superconductors. We predict that the leading superconducting pairing instability is driven from an extended $s$-wave (s$^\pm$) to a $d$-wave by hole doping, for example in Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Co$_2$N$_2$. This study provides a new platform to establish the superconducting mechanism of unconventional high temperature superconductivity.

Unprotected quadratic band crossing points and quantum anomalous Hall effect in FeB2 monolayer

Quadratic band crossing points (QBCPs) and quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE) have attracted the attention of both theoretical and experimental researchers in recent years. Based on first-principle calculations, we find that the FeB$_2$ monolayer is a nonmagnetic semimetal with QBCPs at $K$. Through symmetry analysis and $\mathbf{k}\cdot\mathbf{p}$ invariant theory, we find that the QBCP is not protected by rotation symmetry and consists of two Dirac points with same chirality (Berry phase of $2π$). Once introducing Coulomb interactions, we find that there is a spontaneous-time-reversal-breaking instability of the spinful QBCPs, which gives rise to a $C=2$ QAH insulator with orbital moment ordering.

Anomalous thermal Hall effect and anomalous Nernst effect of CsV$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$

Motived by time-reversal symmetry breaking and giant anomalous Hall effect in kagome superconductor \textit{A}V$_3$Sb$_5$ (\textit{A} = Cs, K, Rb), we carried out the thermal transport measurements on CsV$_3$Sb$_5$. In addition to the anomalous Hall effect, the anomalous Nernst effect and the anomalous thermal Hall effect emerge. Interestingly, the longitudinal thermal conductivity $κ_{xx}$ largely deviates from the electronic contribution obtained from the longitudinal conductivity $σ_{xx}$ by the Wiedemann-Franz law. In contrast, the thermal Hall conductivity $κ_{xy}$ is roughly consistent with the Wiedemann-Franz law from electronic contribution. All these results indicate the large phonon contribution in the longitudinal thermal conductivity. Moreover, the thermal Hall conductivity is also slightly greater than the theoretical electronic contribution, indicating other charge neutral contributions. More than that, the Nernst coefficient and Hall resistivity show the multi-band behavior with possible additional contribution from Berry curvature at the low fields.
