Efficient expectation value estimation for quantum circuits via extended stabilizer frameworks and adaptive variance estimation

Classical simulability of quantum circuits plays a central role in characterizing and quantifying quantum computational advantage. Typically, the presence of non-Clifford gates introduces an exponential runtime overhead for classically estimating expectation values of observables. In this work, we introduce an efficient simulation framework that integrates the sum-over-Clifford method with quasi-probability-based stabilizer simulation to directly estimate expectation values. To optimize efficiency, we incorporate a circuit-adaptive reduction via variance estimation protocol, which terminates simulations once an empirical confidence bound is sufficient to guarantee the prescribed error tolerance. Our method circumvents overly conservative Hoeffding's inequality, thereby reducing the dependence on the gate-wise stabilizer extent from quadratic to linear in the low-variance regime, while maintaining the same space complexity as previous approaches. We explicitly prove the sample-complexity reduction for random quantum circuits and T-doped Clifford circuits and also empirically validate these advantages in the quantum approximate optimization algorithm and quantum kernel method.

A rigorous hybridization of variational quantum eigensolver with classical neural network

Combining variational quantum process with classical neural learning offers a flexible route to improve ground-state estimation. We establish an integrated framework that connects neural transformations, measurement statistics, and guarantees physical stability through three requirements: self-contained training, polynomial resource scaling, and variational consistency. Its constructive realization, termed \emph{unitary variational quantum-neural hybrid eigensolver}~(U-VQNHE), couples a variational quantum circuit to a neural phase function through norm-preserving post-processing. The learned transformation is evaluated from measurement records, preserves the exact variational bound, and admits range-independent concentration guarantees for independent finite-shot evaluations. Complementing this construction, we characterize the statistical and representational constraints of amplitude reweighting: sampled-support mismatch can destabilize empirical normalization, while exact distribution matching can require exponentially large dynamic range for Haar-random targets and structured ansatz--target pairs under specified near-tensorizability and mismatch conditions. Finite-shot simulations on Ising and disordered XYZ spin models demonstrate improved energy accuracy over the underlying variational quantum eigensolver and greater robustness than the amplitude-reweighting baselines. Together, these results provide a principled foundation for quantum--neural eigensolvers in which physical consistency, expressive capacity, and measurement cost are treated as a single design problem.

A scalable quantum-neural hybrid variational algorithm for ground state estimation

We propose the unitary variational quantum-neural hybrid eigensolver (U-VQNHE), which improves upon the original VQNHE by enforcing unitary neural transformations. The non-unitary nature of VQNHE causes normalization issues and divergence of the loss function during training, leading to exponential scaling of measurement overhead with qubit number. U-VQNHE resolves these issues, significantly reduces required measurements, and retains improved accuracy and stability over standard variational quantum eigensolvers.

Quantum Linear Multistep Method for Using a Quantum Oracle with Differential Equations

Differential equations are a crucial mathematical tool used in a wide range of applications. If the solution to an initial value problem (IVP) can be transformed into an oracle, it can be utilized in various fields such as search and optimization, achieving quadratic speedup with respect to the number of candidates compared to its classical counterpart. In the past, attempts have been made to implement such an oracle using the Euler method. In this study, we propose a quantum linear multistep method (QLMM) that applies the linear multistep method, commonly used to numerically solve IVPs on classical computers, to generate a numerical solution of the IVP for use in a quantum oracle. We also propose a method to find the optimal form of QLMM for a given IVP. Finally, through computer simulations, we derive the QLMM formulation for an example IVP and show that the solution from the optimized QLMM can be used in an optimization problem.
