Weyl symmetric Effective Action and Monopole Condensation in SU(3) QCD

We show how to generalize the previous result of the monopole condensation in SU(2) QCD to SU(3) QCD. We present the gauge independent Weyl symmetric Abelian decomposition of the SU(3) QCD which decomposes the gluons to the color neutral neurons and the colored chromons. The decomposition allows us to separate the gauge invariant and parity conserving monopole background gauge independently, and reduces the non-Abelian gauge symmetry to a discrete color reflection symmetry which is easier to handle. With this we obtain the infra-red finite and gauge invariant integral expression of the one-loop effective action which is Weyl symmetric in three SU(2) subgroups. Integrating it gauge invariantly imposing the color reflection invariance we obtain the SU(3) QCD effective potential which generates the stable monopole condensation and the mass gap. We discuss the physical implications of our result.

Re-interpretation of Skyrme Theory: New Topological structures

Recently it has been pointed out that the skyrmions carry two independent topology, the baryon topology and the monopole topology. We provide more evidence to support this. In specific, we prove that the baryon number $B$ can be decomposed to the monopole number $m$ and the shell number $n$, so that $B$ is given by $B=mn$. This tells that the skyrmions may more conveniently be classified by two integers $(m,n)$. This is because the rational map which determines the baryon number in the popular multi-skyrmion solutions actually describes the monopole topology $π_2(S^2)$ which is different from the baryon topology $π_3(S^3)$. Moreover, we show that the baby skyrmions can also be generalized to have two topology, $π_1(S^1)$ and $π_2(S^2)$, and thus should be classified by two topological numbers $(m,n)$. Furthermore, we show that the vacuum of the Skyrme theory can be classified by two topological numbers $(p,q)$, the $π_1(S^1)$ of the sigma-field and the $π_3(S^2)$ of the normalized pion-field. This means that the Skyrme theory has multiple vacua similar to the Sine-Gordon theory and QCD combined together. This puts the Skyrme theory in a totally new perspective. We discussthe physical implications of our results.

Cosmological Production of Electroweak Monopole

We discuss the cosmological production and the successive evolution of the electroweak (Cho-Maison) monopole in the standard model, and estimate the remnant monopole density at present universe. We confirm that, although the electroweak phase transition is of the first order, it is very mildly the first order. So the monopole production comes from the thermal fluctuations of the Higgs field after the phase transition, not the vacuum bubble collisions during the phase transition. Moreover, while the monopoles are produced copiously around the Ginzburg temperature $T_G\simeq 59.6~{\rm TeV}$, most of them are annihilated as soon as created. This annihilation process continues very long time, untill the monopoles are decoupled from the other matters when the temperature cools to about 30 MeV. As the result the remnant monopole density at present universe becomes very small, of $10^{-11}$ of the critical density, too small to affect the standard cosmology and too small be the dark matter. We discuss the physical implications of our results on the ongoing monopole detection experiments, in particular on MoEDAL, IceCube, ANTARES, Auger, and Super-Kamiokande.

New Topological Structures of Skyrme Theory: Baryon Number and Monopole Number

Based on the observation that the skyrmion in Skyrme theory can be viewed as a dressed monopole, we show that the skyrmions have two independent topology, the baryon topology $π_3(S^3)$ and the monopole topology $π_2(S^2)$. With this we propose to classify the skyrmions by two topological numbers $(m,n)$, the monopole number $m$ and the shell (radial) number $n$. In this scheme the popular (non spherically symmetric) skyrmions are classified as the $(m,1)$ skyrmions but the spherically symmetric skyrmions are classified as the $(1,n)$ skyrmions, and the baryon number $B$ is given by $B=mn$. Moreover, we show that the vacuum of the Skyrme theory has the structure of the vacuum of the Sine-Gordon theory and QCD combined together, which can also be classified by two topological numbers $(p,q)$. This puts the Skyrme theory in a totally new perspective.

Solution-generating methods of Einstein's equations by Hamiltonian reduction

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a new method of generating exact solutions to the Einstein's equations obtained by the Hamiltonian reduction. The key element to the successful Hamiltonian reduction is finding the privileged spacetime coordinates in which physical degrees of freedom manifestly reside in the conformal two-metric, and all the other metric components are determined by the conformal two-metric. In the privileged coordinates the Einstein's constraint equations become trivial; the Hamiltonian and momentum constraints are simply the defining equations of a non-vanishing gravitational Hamiltonian and momentum densities in terms of conformal two-metric and its conjugate momentum, respectively. Thus, given any conformal two-metric, which is a constraint-free data, one can construct the whole 4-dimensional spacetime by integrating the first-order superpotential equations. As the first examples of using Hamiltonian reduction in solving the Einstein's equations, we found two exact solutions to the Einstein's equations in the privileged coordinates. Suitable coordinate transformations from the privileged to the standard coordinates show that they are just the Einstein-Rosen wave and the Schwarzschild solution. The local gravitational Hamiltonian and momentum densities of these spacetimes are also presented in the privileged coordinates.

Gravitationally Coupled Electroweak Monopole

We present a family of gravitationally coupled electroweak monopole solutions in Einstein-Weinberg-Salam theory. Our result confirms the existence of globally regular gravitating electroweak monopole which changes to the magnetically charged black hole as the Higgs vacuum value approaches to the Planck scale. Moreover, our solutions could provide a more accurate description of the monopole stars and magnetically charged black holes.

Multiply Phased Traveling BPS Vortex

We present the multiply phased current carrying vortex solutions in the U(1) gauge theory coupled to an $(N+1)$-component SU(N+1) scalar multiplet in the Bogomolny limit. Our vortex solutions correspond to the static vortex dressed with traveling waves along the axis of symmetry. What is notable in our vortex solutions is that the frequencies of traveling waves in each component of the scalar field can have different values. The energy of the static vortex is proportional to the topological charge of $CP^N$ model in the BPS limit, and the multiple phase of the vortex supplies additional energy contribution which is proportional to the Noether charge associated to the remaining symmetry.

Mass of the Electroweak Monopole

We present finite energy analytic monopole and dyon solutions whose size is fixed by the electroweak scale. Our result shows that genuine electroweak monopole whose mass is around 6.7 TeV could exist, which could be detected at LHC.

Brans-Dicke Gravity from Entropic Viewpoint

We interpret the Brans-Dicke gravity from entropic viewpoint. We first apply the Verlinde's entropic formalism in the Einstein frame, then perform the conformal transformation which connects the Einstein frame to the Jordan frame. The transformed result yields the equation of motion of the Brans-Dicke theory in the Jordan frame.

Noncommutative Solitonic Black Hole

We investigate solitonic black hole solutions in three dimensional noncommutative spacetime. We do this in gravity with negative cosmological constant coupled to a scalar field. Noncommutativity is realized with the Moyal product which is expanded up to first order in the noncommutativity parameter in two spatial directions. With numerical simulation we study the effect of noncommutativity by increasing the value of the noncommutativity parameter starting from commutative solutions. We find that even a regular soliton solution in the commutative case becomes a black hole solution when the noncommutativity parameter reaches a certain value.

Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole from entropic viewpoint

In a Schwarzschild-de Sitter space, we consider an equipotential surface which consists of two holographic screens. Adapting the Bousso-Hawking's reference point of vanishing force, we divide the space into two regions, which are from the reference point to each holographic screen. These two regions can be treated as independent thermodynamical systems, because the Bousso-Hawking reference point with zero temperature behaves like a thermally insulating wall. The entropy obtained in this way agrees with the conventional results; i) when the holographic screens lie at the black hole and cosmological horizons, ii) in the Nariai limit.

Surface gravity and Hawking temperature from entropic force viewpoint

We consider a freely falling holographic screen for the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström black holes and evaluate the entropic force à la Verlinde. When the screen crosses the event horizon, the temperature of the screen agrees to the Hawking temperature and the entropic force gives rise to the surface gravity for both of the black holes.

Noncommutative Relativistic U(N) Chern-Simons Solitons

We investigate BPS soliton solutions of U(N) Chern-Simons gauge theory coupled to a scalar field in noncommutative plane. With a scalar field in the fundamental representation, we show that the BPS equation becomes that of abelian Chern-Simons theory in the unitary gauge. We also find a class of particular solutions for the BPS equation with scalar field in the adjoint representation.

Bogomolnyi Bound with a Cosmological Constant

Bogomolnyi-type bound is constructed for the topological solitons in O(3) nonlinear $σ$ model coupled to gravity with a negative cosmological constant. Spacetimes made by self-dual solutions form a class of Gödel-type universe. In the limit of a spinless massive point particle, the obtained stationary metric does not violate the causality and it is a new point particle solution different from the known static hyperboloid and black hole. We also showed that static Nielsen-Olesen vortices saturate Bogomolnyi-type bound only when the cosmological constant vanishes.

Global Vortex and Black Cosmic String

We study global vortices coupled to (2+1) dimensional gravity with negative cosmological constant. We found nonsingular vortex solutions in $ϕ^4$-theory with a broken U(1) symmetry, of which the spacetimes do not involve physical curvature singularity. When the magnitude of negative cosmological constant is larger than a critical value at a given symmetry breaking scale, the spacetime structure is a regular hyperbola, however it becomes a charged black hole when the magnitude of cosmological constant is less than the critical value. We explain through duality transformation the reason why static global vortex which is electrically neutral forms black hole with electric charge. Under the present experimental bound of the cosmological constant, implications on cosmology as a straight black cosmic string is also discussed in comparison with global U(1) cosmic string in the spacetime of the zero cosmological constant.

Charged Black Cosmic String

Global U(1) strings with cylindrical symmetry are studied in anti-de Sitter spacetime. According as the magnitude of negative cosmological constant, they form regular global cosmic strings, extremal black cosmic strings and charged black cosmic strings, but no curvature singularity is involved. The relationship between the topological charge of a neutral global string and the black hole charge is clarified by duality transformation. Physical relevance as straight string is briefly discussed.

Finite Energy Electroweak Monopoles

We present finite energy analytic monopole and dyon solutions whose size is fixed by the electroweak scale. The new solutions are obtained by regularizing the recent Cho-Maison solutions of the Weinberg-Salam model. Our result shows that genuine electroweak monopole and dyon could exist whose mass scale is much smaller than the grand unification scale.
