Rotating End of the World

We study the thermodynamics and interior structures of dynamical end of the world (EoW) branes in the rotating BTZ black hole. By mapping the induced metric of the branes to an effective Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) system, we derive the first law of thermodynamics for the boundary conformal field theory (BCFT), incorporating boundary degrees of freedom. To construct this thermodynamics, we adopt two frameworks of black hole chemistry and the duality between the JT black hole and the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model. In addition, we verify that the shadow entropy is equivalent to the boundary entropy via Hubeny-Ryu-Takayanagi (HRT) surfaces. Furthermore, we explore the possible interior configurations of the EoW brane inside the horizon. Two representative configurations, namely single and double-joint EoW branes, are considered. These disparate configurations share the same exterior brane configuration outside the horizon. By comparing their energies, we show that a transition could occur within the horizon.

Einstein Structure of Four-Manifolds

It is known that the moduli space of Einstein structures in four dimensions is generally considered to be rigid so that Einstein metrics tend to be isolated modulo diffeomorphisms under infinitesimal Einstein deformations. We examine the rigidity of the Einstein structure by considering deformations of the round four-sphere. We show that any deviation from the standard metric of the round four-sphere (except for scaling) breaks the Einstein condition. This further supports the idea of rigidity. We analyze the Einstein structure of four-manifolds based on the irreducible decomposition of the self-dual structure of Einstein manifolds.

Black Hole Chemistry Knows Extra Dimensions

: In this note, we study an extra dimension effect on the black hole chemistry in the 8-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills-Maxwell theory. The base spacetime contains 4- dimensional compact manifolds and an instanton on top of those. We demonstrate how the extra dimensions affect the phase transition and viable black hole sizes in the 4-dimensional Einstein frame through the black hole chemistry. We focus on asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes for the effective 4-dimensional model obtained by a dimensional reduction. The extra-dimension size determines thermodynamic pressure, and the thermodynamic volume is roughly the horizon size of black holes. Thus, the extra dimension and black hole sizes are related as a conjugate pair of thermodynamic variables.

Phase Diagram from Nonlinear Interaction between Superconducting Order and Density: Toward Data-Based Holographic Superconductor

We address an inverse problem in modeling holographic superconductors. We focus our research on the critical temperature behavior depicted by experiments. We use a physics-informed neural network method to find a mass function $M(F^2)$, which is necessary to understand phase transition behavior. This mass function describes a nonlinear interaction between superconducting order and charge carrier density. We introduce positional embedding layers to improve the learning process in our algorithm, and the Adam optimization is used to predict the critical temperature data via holographic calculation with appropriate accuracy. Consideration of the positional embedding layers is motivated by the transformer model of natural-language processing in the artificial intelligence (AI) field. We obtain holographic models that reproduce borderlines of the normal and superconducting phases provided by actual data. Our work is the first holographic attempt to match phase transition data quantitatively obtained from experiments. Also, the present work offers a new methodology for data-based holographic models.

End of the World Perspective to BCFT

In this work, we study the end-of-the-world (EOW) branes anchored to the boundaries of BCFT${}_2$ dual to the BTZ black hole. First, we explore the thermodynamics of the boundary system consisting of the conformal boundary and two EOW branes. This thermodynamics is extended by the tension appearing as the effective cosmological constant of JT black holes on the EOW branes. The tension contribution is identified with the shadow entropy equivalent to the boundary entropy of the BCFT${}_2$. The thermodynamics of the JT black holes and the bulk of BCFT${}_2$ can be combined into a novel grafted thermodynamics based on the first law. Second, we focus on the observer's view of the EOW branes by lowering the temperature. We show that the EOW branes generate a scale called ``reefs" inside the horizon. This scale also appears in the grafted thermodynamics. At high temperatures, observers on the EOW branes see their respective event horizons. The reef starts to grow relatively to the horizon size at the temperature, $T_{grow}$. As the temperature cools down the reef area fills the entire interior of the JT black holes at the temperature $T_{out}$. Then, the observers recognize their horizons disappear and see the large density of the energy flux. At this temperature, the two JT regions become causally connected. This connected spacetime has two asymptotic $AdS_2$ boundaries with a conformal matter. Also, we comment on the grafted thermodynamics to higher dimensions in Appendix B.

Construction of Superconducting Dome and Emergence of Quantum Critical Region in Holography

In this work, we investigate an extended model of holographic superconductor by a non-linear electrodynamic interaction coupled to a complex scalar field. This non-linear interaction term can make a quantum phase transition at zero temperature with finite charge carrier density. By solving full equations of motion, we can construct various shapes of the superconducting phase in the phase diagram. With a specific choice of interaction coefficients, we can construct a phase diagram with a superconducting dome. Also, we find a new geometric solution inside the superconducting dome, which turns out to be a Lifshitz-type geometry. This geometry is characterized by a dynamical critical exponent, which plays a crucial role near the quantum critical point. We refer to this region in the phase diagram as a `quantum critical region.'

Generalization of Instanton-Induced Inflation and Dynamical Compactification

It was shown that Yang-Mills instantons on an internal space can trigger the expansion of our four-dimensional universe as well as the dynamical compactification of the internal space. We generalize the instanton-induced inflation and dynamical compactification to general Einstein manifolds with positive curvature and also to the FLRW metric with spatial curvature. We explicitly construct Yang-Mills instantons on all Einstein manifolds under consideration and find that the homogeneous and isotropic universe is allowed only if the internal space is homogeneous. We then consider the FLRW metric with spatial curvature as a solution of the eight-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills theory. We find that open universe $(k=-1)$ admits bouncing solutions unlike the other cases $(k=0, +1)$.

Dynamical Compactification with Matter

In this work, we study cosmological solutions of the 8-dimensional Einstein Yang-Mills theory coupled to a perfect-fluid matter. A Yang-Mills instanton of extra dimensions causes a 4-dimensional expanding universe with dynamical compactification of the extra dimensions. To construct physically reliable situations, we impose the null energy condition on the matter. This energy condition is affected by the extra dimensions. Then, we consider cosmological constant to grasp the structure of the solution space. Even in this simple case, we find several interesting solutions, such as bouncing universes and oscillatory solutions, eventually arriving at a de Sitter universe with stabilized compact dimensions. In addition, we consider a class of matters whose energy density depends on the volume of the extra dimensions. This case shows another set of bouncing universes. Also, a real scalar with potential is taken into account. The scalar field model admits de Sitter solutions due to the choice of potential, and we demonstrate how potentials can be constructed using flow equations. {\color{black}Thus, what we discuss in this work is based on the 8-dimensional Einstein frame, which corresponds to the 4-dimensional Jordan frame by dimensional reduction. Consequently, the results are derived in the 4-dimensional Jordan frame, not in the 4-dimensional Einstein frame.

Impurity-Driven Metal-Insulator Transitions in Holography

In this work, we study Metal-Insulator transition in a holographic model containing an interaction between the order parameter and charge-carrier density. It turns out that the impurity density of this model can drive the phase transition whose ordered phase corresponds to the insulating phase. The temperature behavior of DC conductivity distinguishes the insulating phase from the metal phase. We confirm this behavior by a numerical method and an analytic calculation. As a byproduct, we show the existence of a `quantum phase transition' supported by the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound argument.

Impurity Effect on Hysteric Magnetoconductance: Holographic Approach

In this paper we study a hysteric phase transition from weak localization phase to hysteric magnetoconductance phase using gauge/gravity duality. This hysteric phase is triggered by a spontaneous magnetization related to Z2 symmetry and time reversal symmetry in a 2+1 dimensional system with momentum relaxation. We derive thermoelectric conductivity formulas describing non-hysteric and hysteric phases. At low temperatures, this magneto-conductance shows similar phase transitions of topological insulator surface states. We also obtain hysteresis curves of Seebeck coefficient and Nernst signal. It turns out that our impurity parameter changes magnetic properties of the dual system. This is justified by showing increasing susceptibility and the spontaneous magnetization with increasing impurity parameter.

Phase Transition in JT Gravity and $T\bar{T}$ Deformation

In this paper we study a black hole phase transition in a generalized JT gravity noticed in arXiv:2006.03494. We investigate the effect of the phase transition on the Euclidean geodesic and holographic two-point function in models with dilaton potential which interpolates two ordinary JT gravities with different cosmological constants. It is noted that there exists a closed geodesic with a new scale at low temperature phase when the potential has a locally negative region. This scale causes several peaks in the two-point function. We also comment on the phase transition of charged black holes. We then consider coupling generalized JT gravity to a matter and study its relation to a $T\bar{T}$ deformation of CFT at the classical level. We find the deformation parameter as a function of the dilaton and provide examples showing Janus-type couplings.

AdS Q-Soliton and Inhomogeneously mass-deformed ABJM Model

We study dual geometries to a deformed ABJM model with spatially dependent source functions at finite temperature. These source functions are proportional to the mass function $m(x)= m_0 \sin k x$ and its derivative $m'(x)$. As dual geometries, we find hairy black branes and AdS solitons corresponding to deconfinement phase and confining phase of the dual field theory, respectively. It turns out that the hairy AdS solitons have lower free energy than the black branes when the Hawking temperature is smaller than the confining scale. Therefore the dual system undergoes the first order phase transition. Even though our study is limited to the so-called Q-lattice ansatz, the solution space contains a set of solutions dual to a supersymmetric mass deformation. As a physical quantity to probe the confining phase, we investigate the holographic entanglement entropy and discuss its behavior in terms of modulation effect.

Thermodynamics of Inhomogeneously Mass-deformed ABJM Model and Pressure Anisotropy

In this paper we study the thermodynamics of black branes with a modulated complex scalar in the context of bulk and boundary theories. The modulation induces inhomogeneity to the dual field theory, anisotropic pressure, and brane charge to the bulk geometry. The first law of thermodynamics and the Smarr relation are obtained using the off-shell ADT and the reduced action formalisms. We discuss the prescription for the mass of black branes, which relies on relevant and marginal deformations in the dual field theory. One of the cases is the gravity dual to a ABJM model with a sinusoidal mass function depending on a spatial coordinate. This is the first study of the deformed ABJM model at finite temperature including bulk thermodynamics.

Building Magnetic Hysteresis in Holography

We study the spontaneous magnetization and the magnetic hysteresis using the gauge/gravity duality. We first propose a novel and general formula to compute the magnetization in a large class of holographic models. By using this formula, we compute the spontaneous magnetization in a model like a holographic superconductor. Furthermore, we turn on the external magnetic field and build the hysteresis curve of magnetization and charge density. To our knowledge, this is the first holographic model realizing the hysteresis accompanied with spontaneous symmetry breaking. By considering the Landau-Ginzburg type effective potential in the symmetry broken phase, we obtain the mass of the magnon from the bulk geometry data.

Holographic Entanglement Entropy with Momentum Relaxation

We studied the holographic entanglement entropy for a strip and sharp wedge entangling regions in momentum relaxation systems. In the case of strips, we found analytic and numerical results for the entanglement entropy and showed the effect on the minimal surface by the electric field. We also studied the entanglement entropy of wedges and confirmed that there is a linear change in the electric field. This change is proportional to the thermoelectric conductivity, $\barα$, that can be measured.

Expanding Universe and Dynamical Compactification Using Yang-Mills Instantons

We consider an eight-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills theory to explore whether Yang-Mills instantons formed in extra dimensions can induce the dynamical instability of our four-dimensional spacetime. We show that the Yang-Mills instantons in extra dimensions can trigger the expansion of our universe in four-dimensional spacetime as well as the dynamical compactification of extra dimensions. We also discuss a possibility to realize a reheating mechanism via the quantum back-reaction from the contracting tiny internal space with a smeared instanton.

Janus ABJM Models with Mass Deformation

We construct a large class of ${\cal N} = 3$ Janus ABJM models with mass deformation, where the mass depends on a spatial (or lightcone) coordinate. We also show that the resulting Janus model can be identified with an effective action of M2-branes in the presence of a background self-dual 4-form field strength varying along one spatial (or lightcone) coordinate.

Holographic Micro Thermofield Geometries of BTZ Black Holes

We find general deformations of BTZ spacetime and identify the corresponding thermofield initial states of the dual CFT. We deform the geometry by introducing bulk fields dual to primary operators and find the back-reacted gravity solutions to the quadratic order of the deformation parameter. The dual thermofield initial states can be deformed by inserting arbitrary linear combination of operators at the mid-point of the Euclidean time evolution that appears in the construction of the thermofield initial states. The deformed geometries are dual to thermofield states without deforming the boundary Hamiltonians in the CFT side. We explicitly demonstrate that the AdS/CFT correspondence is not a linear correspondence in the sense that the linear structure of Hilbert space of the underlying CFT is realized nonlinearly in the gravity side. We also find that their Penrose diagrams are no longer a square but elongated horizontally due to deformation. These geometries describe a relaxation of generic initial perturbation of thermal system while fixing the total energy of the system. The coarse-grained entropy grows and the relaxation time scale is of order $β/2π$. We clarify that the gravity description involves coarse-graining inevitably missing some information of nonperurbative degrees.
