Prelle-Singer Approach and Liouvillian Solutions: An Important Result

In math-ph/0107007, we present a method to tackle first order ordinary differential equations whose solutions contain Liouvillian functions (LFOODEs), many of them missed by the usual PS-approach. Here, we demonstrate an important result concerning the generality of that method.

A Method to Tackle First Order Differential Equations with Liouvillian Functions in the Solution

We present an algorithm to solve First Order Ordinary Differential Equations (FOODEs) extending the Prelle-Singer (PS) Method. The usual PS-approach miss many FOODEs presenting Liouvillian functions in the solution (LFOODEs). We point out why and propose an algorithm to solve a large class of these previously unsolved LFOODEs. Although our algorithm does not cover all the LFOODEs, it is an elegant extension mantaining the semi-decision nature of the usual PS-Method.

Implementation of the Prelle-Singer Method for 1ODEs

A set of MapleV R5 software routines for solving first order ordinary differential equations (1ODEs) is presented. The package implements the Prelle-Singer Method in its original form plus its extension to include elementary functions (ELFs) on the integrating factor . The package also presents a theoretical extension to deal with all 1ODEs presenting liouvillian solutions (LIS).

Numerical Calculations Using Maple: Why & How?

The possibility of interaction between Maple and numeric compiled languages in performing extensive numeric calculations is exemplified by the Ndynamics package, a tool for studying the (chaotic) behavior of dynamical systems. Programming hints concerning the construction of Ndynamics are presented. The system command, together with the application of the black-box concept, is used to implement a powerful cooperation between Maple code and some other numeric language code.

Numerical Analysis of Dynamical Systems and the Fractal Dimension of Boundaries

A set of MapleV R.4/5 software routines for calculating the numerical evolution of dynamical systems and flexibly plotting the results is presented. The package consists of an initial condition generator (on which the user can impose quite general constraints), a numerical solving manager, plotting commands that allow the user to locate and focus in on regions of possible interest and, finally, a set of routines that calculate the fractal dimension of the boundaries of those regions. A special feature of the software routines presented here is an optional interface in C, permitting fast numerical integration using standard Runge-Kutta methods, or variations, for high precision numerical integration

Computer Algebra Solving of Second Order ODEs Using Symmetry Methods

An update of the ODEtools Maple package, for the analytical solving of 1st and 2nd order ODEs using Lie group symmetry methods, is presented. The set of routines includes an ODE-solver and user-level commands realizing most of the relevant steps of the symmetry scheme. The package also includes commands for testing the returned results, and for classifying 1st and 2nd order ODEs.

Computer Algebra Solving of First Order ODEs Using Symmetry Methods

A set of Maple V R.3/4 computer algebra routines for the analytical solving of 1st. order ODEs, using Lie group symmetry methods, is presented. The set of commands includes a 1st. order ODE-solver and routines for, among other things: the explicit determination of the coefficients of the infinitesimal symmetry generator; the construction of the most general invariant 1st. order ODE under given symmetries; the determination of the canonical coordinates of the underlying invariant group; and the testing of the returned results.
