Memory effect for generalized modes in pp-waves spacetime

The memory effect of test particles interacting with pp-wave Gaussian pulses is investigated for polarization modes beyond the standard quadrupolar $+$ and $\times$ states. Massive geodesic equations are solved numerically for several values of the multipolar index $m$, allowing the analysis of velocity and energy memory effects. In order to eliminate possible coordinate artifacts, the study is formulated in terms of the relative motion between two test particles. The results show that the relative kinetic energy variation exhibits a quartic dependence on the wave amplitude in the regime of low initial velocities. The coefficient of this scaling is found to depend on the multipolar structure of the wave, reflecting the spatial gradients associated with higher polarization modes. It is further shown that the energy memory effect is determined by the integrated tidal field, linking the permanent change in the relative kinetic energy to the history of the spacetime curvature carried by the wave.13

Exotic looped trajectories via quantum marking

We provide an analytical and theoretical study of exotic looped trajectories (ELTs) in a double-slit interferometer with quantum marking. We use an excited Rydberg-like atom and which-way detectors such as superconducting cavities, just as in the Scully-Englert-Walther interferometer. We indicate appropriate conditions on the atomic beam or superconducting cavities so that we determine an interference pattern and fringe visibility exclusive from the ELTs. We quantitatively describe our results for Rubidium atoms and propose this framework as an alternative scheme to the double-slit experiment modified to interfere only these exotic trajectories.

Poisson's spot and Gouy phase

Recently there have been experimental results on Poisson spot matter wave interferometry followed by theoretical models describing the relative importance of the wave and particle behaviors for the phenomenon. We propose an analytical theoretical model for the Poisson's spot with matter waves based on Babinet principle in which we use the results for a free propagation and single slit diffraction. We take into account effects of loss of coherence and finite detection area using the propagator for a quantum particle interacting with an environment. We observe that the matter wave Gouy phase plays a role in the existence of the central peak and thus corroborates the predominantly wavelike character of the Poisson's spot. Our model shows remarkable agreement with the experimental data for deuterium ($D_{2}$) molecules.

Implications on the cosmic coincidence by a dynamical extrinsic curvature

In this work, we apply the smooth deformation concept in order to obtain a modification of Friedmann equations. It is shown that the cosmic coincidence can be at least alleviated using the dynamical properties of the extrinsic curvature. We investigate the transition from nucleosynthesis to the coincidence era obtaining a very small variation of the ratio $r=\frac{ρ_{m}}{ρ_{ext}}$, that compares the matter energy density to extrinsic energy density, compatible with the known behavior of the deceleration parameter. We also show that the calculated "equivalence" redshift matches the transition redshift from a deceleration to accelerated phase and the coincidence ceases to be. The dynamics on $r$ is also studied based on Hubble parameter observations as the latest Baryons Acoustic Oscillations/Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (BAO/CMBR) + SNIa.

Position-momentum correlations in matter waves double-slit experiment

We present a treatment of the double-slit interference of matter-waves represented by Gaussian wavepackets. The interference pattern is modelled with Green's function propagator which emphasizes the coordinate correlations and phases. We explore the connection between phases and position-momentum correlations in the intensity, visibility and predictability of the wavepackets interference. This formulation will indicate some aspects that can be useful for theoretical and experimental treatment of particles, atoms or molecules interferometry.

Geometrical aspects on the dark matter problem

In the present paper we apply the Nash's theory of perturbative geometry to the study of dark matter gravity in a higher-dimensional space-time. It is shown that the dark matter gravitational perturbations at local scale can be explained by the extrinsic curvature of the standard cosmology. In order to test our model, we use a spherically symmetric metric embedded in a five-dimensional bulk. As a result, considering a sample of 10 low surface brightness and 6 high surface brightness galaxies, we find a very good agreement with the observed rotation curves of smooth hybrid alpha-HI measurements.

Conductivity of Coulomb interacting massless Dirac particles in graphene: Regularization-dependent parameters and symmetry constraints

We compute the Coulomb correction $\mathcal{C}$ to the a. c. conductivity of interacting massless Dirac particles in graphene in the collisionless limit using the polarization tensor approach in a regularization independent framework. Arbitrary parameters stemming from differences between logarithmically divergent integrals are fixed on physical grounds exploiting only spatial $O(2)$ rotational invariance of the model which amounts to transversality of the polarization tensor. Consequently $\mathcal{C}$ is unequivocally determined to be $(19- 6π)/12$ within this effective model. We compare our result with explicit regularizations and discuss the origin of others results for $\mathcal{C}$ found in the literature.

Ambiguities in the gravitational correction of quantum electrodynamics

We verify that quadratic divergences stemming from gravitational corrections to QED which have been conjectured to lead to asymptotic freedom near Planck scale are arbitrary (regularization dependent) and compatible with zero. Moreover we explicitly show that such arbitrary term contributes to the beta function of QED in a gauge dependent way in the gravitational sector.

(Un)determined finite regularization dependent quantum corrections: the Higgs decay into two photons and the two photon scattering examples

We investigate the appearance of arbitrary, regularization dependent parameters introduced by divergent integrals in two a priori finite but superficially divergent amplitudes: the Higgs decay into two photons and the two photon scattering. We use a general parametrization of ultraviolet divergences which makes explicit such ambiguities. Thus we separate in a consistent way using Implicit Regularization the divergent, finite and regularization dependent parts of the amplitudes which in turn are written as surface terms. We find that, although finite, these amplitudes are ambiguous before the imposition of physical conditions namely momentum routing invariance in the loops of Feynman diagrams. In the examples we study momentum routing invariance turns out to be equivalent to gauge invariance. We also discuss the results obtained by different regularizations and show how they can be reproduced within our framework allowing for a clear view on the origin of regularization ambiguities.
