Dynamics of one-dimensional Bose-Josephson Junction in a Box Trap: From Coherent Oscillations to Many-Body Dephasing and Dynamical Freezing

Understanding how coherent quantum dynamics give way to correlation-dominated behavior in low-dimensional systems remains a central challenge in quantum many-body physics. Here, we investigate a one-dimensional Bose-Josephson junction confined in a box trap using the multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree method for bosons (MCTDHB). By varying the interaction strength and initial population imbalance, we identify distinct dynamical regimes governed by the competition between coherence and correlation-induced fragmentation. Weak interactions support coherent Josephson oscillations, whereas increasing imbalance leads to damping. At intermediate interaction strength, varying only the initial imbalance induces a crossover from nearly pure coherent oscillations to many-body dephasing with collapse-and-revival dynamics, and ultimately to equilibration accompanied by strong fragmentation and the saturation of many-body observables. In the strongly interacting regime, the system enters a dynamical freezing regime characterized by pronounced fragmentation, well-separated particle-resolved density peaks, and strongly suppressed tunneling. A systematic comparison with the Bose-Hubbard model reveals excellent agreement in the weakly interacting regime, while progressively larger deviations emerge as higher-orbital occupations beyond the two-mode approximation become significant. These results provide a unified picture of the emergence and competition of coherence, many-body dephasing, equilibration, and dynamical freezing, while delineating the regime of validity of the Bose-Hubbard description.

Evolution of localized pulses in the defocusing modified Korteweg-de Vries equation theory

In this work, we develop, in the Gurevich-Pitaevskii framework, an analytic theory for the evolution of localized pulses in the defocusing modified Korteweg-de Vries equation theory for situations when a dispersive shock does not eventually transform into a sequence of well-separated solitons. We found solutions to the Whitham modulation equations for the corresponding so-called "quasi-simple" dispersive shock waves and illustrated this solution with concrete examples of an initial pulse. Comparison of the analytical solution with direct numerical simulations showed that the modulation theory provides a very accurate description of the wave pattern even at one wavelength scale.

Supersonic Flow Past an Obstacle in a Quasi-Two-Dimensional Lee-Huang-Yang Quantum Fluid

A supersonic flow past an obstacle can generate a rich variety of wave excitations. This paper investigates, both analytically and numerically, two types of excitations generated by the flow of a Lee-Huang-Yang quantum fluid past an obstacle: linear radiation and oblique dark solitons. We show that wave crests of linear radiation can be accurately described by the proper modification of the Kelvin original theory, while the oblique dark soliton solution is obtained analytically by transformation of the 1D soliton solution to the obstacle's reference frame. A comparison between analytical predictions and numerical simulations demonstrates good agreement, validating our theoretical approach.

Undular bore theory for the modified Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation

We consider nonlinear wave structures described by the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation with taking into account a small Burgers viscosity for the case of step-like initial conditions. The Whitham modulation equations are derived which include the small viscosity as a perturbation. It is shown that for long enough time of evolution this small perturbation leads to stabilization of cnoidal bores and their main characteristics are obtained. Applicability conditions of this approach are discussed. Analytical theory is compared with numerical solutions and good agreement is found.

Number of solitons produced from a large initial pulse in the generalized NLS dispersive hydrodynamics theory

We show that the number of solitons produced from an arbitrary initial pulse of the simple wave type can be calculated analytically if its evolution is governed by a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation provided this number is large enough. The final result generalizes the asymptotic formula derived for completely integrable nonlinear wave equations like the standard NLS equation with the use of the inverse scattering transform method.
