Dynamical r-matrices and Poisson-Lie symmetries in the chiral WZNW model

We briefly review the possible Poisson structures on the chiral WZNW phase space and discuss the associated Poisson-Lie groupoids. Many interesting dynamical r-matrices appear naturally in this framework. Particular attention is paid to the special cases in which these r-matrices satisfy the classical dynamical Yang-Baxter equation or its Poisson-Lie variant.

Stability analysis of some integrable Euler equations for SO(n)

A family of special cases of the integrable Euler equations on $so(n)$ introduced by Manakov in 1976 is considered. The equilibrium points are found and their stability is studied. Heteroclinic orbits are constructed that connect unstable equilibria and are given by the orbits of certain 1-parameter subgroups of SO(n). The results are complete in the case $n=4$ and incomplete for $n>4$.

On a Poisson-Lie analogue of the classical dynamical Yang-Baxter equation for self-dual Lie algebras

We derive a generalization of the classical dynamical Yang-Baxter equation (CDYBE) on a self-dual Lie algebra $\cal G$ by replacing the cotangent bundle T^*G in a geometric interpretation of this equation by its Poisson-Lie (PL) analogue associated with a factorizable constant r-matrix on $\cal G$. The resulting PL-CDYBE, with variables in the Lie group G equipped with the Semenov-Tian-Shansky Poisson bracket based on the constant r-matrix, coincides with an equation that appeared in an earlier study of PL symmetries in the WZNW model. In addition to its new group theoretic interpretation, we present a self-contained analysis of those solutions of the PL-CDYBE that were found in the WZNW context and characterize them by means of a uniqueness result under a certain analyticity assumption.

On interpretations and constructions of classical dynamical r-matrices

In this note we complement recent results on the exchange $r$-matrices appearing in the chiral WZNW model by providing a direct, purely finite-dimensional description of the relationship between the monodromy dependent 2-form that enters the chiral WZNW symplectic form and the exchange $r$-matrix that governs the corresponding Poisson brackets. We also develop the special case in which the exchange $r$-matrix becomes the `canonical' solution of the classical dynamical Yang-Baxter equation on an arbitrary self-dual Lie algebra.

Adler-Kostant-Symes systems as Lagrangian gauge theories

It is well known that the integrable Hamiltonian systems defined by the Adler-Kostant-Symes construction correspond via Hamiltonian reduction to systems on cotangent bundles of Lie groups. Generalizing previous results on Toda systems, here a Lagrangian version of the reduction procedure is exhibited for those cases for which the underlying Lie algebra admits an invariant scalar product. This is achieved by constructing a Lagrangian with gauge symmetry in such a way that, by means of the Dirac algorithm, this Lagrangian reproduces the Adler-Kostant-Symes system whose Hamiltonian is the quadratic form associated with the scalar product on the Lie algebra.

Generalizations of Felder's elliptic dynamical r-matrices associated with twisted loop algebras of self-dual Lie algebras

A dynamical $r$-matrix is associated with every self-dual Lie algebra $\A$ which is graded by finite-dimensional subspaces as $\A=\oplus_{n \in \cZ} \A_n$, where $\A_n$ is dual to $\A_{-n}$ with respect to the invariant scalar product on $\A$, and $\A_0$ admits a nonempty open subset $\check \A_0$ for which $\ad κ$ is invertible on $\A_n$ if $n\neq 0$ and $κ\in \check \A_0$. Examples are furnished by taking $\A$ to be an affine Lie algebra obtained from the central extension of a twisted loop algebra $\ell(\G,μ)$ of a finite-dimensional self-dual Lie algebra $\G$. These $r$-matrices, $R: \check \A_0 \to \mathrm{End}(\A)$, yield generalizations of the basic trigonometric dynamical $r$-matrices that, according to Etingof and Varchenko, are associated with the Coxeter automorphisms of the simple Lie algebras, and are related to Felder's elliptic $r$-matrices by evaluation homomorphisms of $\ell(\G,μ)$ into $\G$. The spectral-parameter-dependent dynamical $r$-matrix that corresponds analogously to an arbitrary scalar-product-preserving finite order automorphism of a self-dual Lie algebra is here calculated explicitly.

A note on a canonical dynamical r-matrix

It is well known that a classical dynamical $r$-matrix can be associated with every finite-dimensional self-dual Lie algebra $\G$ by the definition $R(ω):= f(\mathrm{ad} ω)$, where $ω\in \G$ and $f$ is the holomorphic function given by $f(z)={1/2}\coth \frac{z}{2}-\frac{1}{z}$ for $z\in \C\setminus 2πi \Z^*$. We present a new, direct proof of the statement that this canonical $r$-matrix satisfies the modified classical dynamical Yang-Baxter equation on $\G$.

Dynamical r-matrices and the chiral WZNW phase space

The dynamical generalization of the classical Yang-Baxter equation that governs the possible Poisson structures on the space of chiral WZNW fields with generic monodromy is reviewed. It is explained that for particular choices of the chiral WZNW Poisson brackets this equation reduces to the CDYB equation recently studied by Etingof--Varchenko and others. Interesting dynamical r-matrices are obtained for generic monodromy as well as by imposing Dirac constraints on the monodromy.

The non-dynamical r-matrices of the degenerate Calogero-Moser models

A complete description of the non-dynamical r-matrices of the degenerate Calogero-Moser models based on $gl_n$ is presented. First the most general momentum independent r-matrices are given for the standard Lax representation of these systems and those r-matrices whose coordinate dependence can be gauged away are selected. Then the constant r-matrices resulting from gauge transformation are determined and are related to well-known r-matrices. In the hyperbolic/trigonometric case a non-dynamical r-matrix equivalent to a real/imaginary multiple of the Cremmer-Gervais classical r-matrix is found. In the rational case the constant r-matrix corresponds to the antisymmetric solution of the classical Yang-Baxter equation associated with the Frobenius subalgebra of $gl_n$ consisting of the matrices with vanishing last row. These claims are consistent with previous results of Hasegawa and others, which imply that Belavin's elliptic r-matrix and its degenerations appear in the Calogero-Moser models. The advantages of our analysis are that it is elementary and also clarifies the extent to which the constant r-matrix is unique in the degenerate cases.

The chiral WZNW phase space as a quasi-Poisson space

It is explained that the chiral WZNW phase space is a quasi-Poisson space with respect to the `canonical' Lie quasi-bialgebra which is the classical limit of Drinfeld's quasi-Hopf deformation of the universal enveloping algebra. This exemplifies the notion of quasi-Poisson-Lie symmetry introduced recently by Alekseev and Kosmann-Schwarzbach, and also permits us to generalize certain dynamical twists considered previously in this example.

On the classical R-matrix of the degenerate Calogero-Moser models

The most general momentum independent dynamical r-matrices are described for the standard Lax representation of the degenerate Calogero-Moser models based on $gl_n$ and those r-matrices whose dynamical dependence can be gauged away are selected. In the rational case, a non-dynamical r-matrix resulting from gauge transformation is given explicitly as an antisymmetric solution of the classical Yang-Baxter equation that belongs to the Frobenius subalgebra of $gl_n$ consisting of the matrices with vanishing last row.

On the Chiral WZNW Phase Space, Exchange r-Matrices and Poisson-Lie Groupoids

This is a review of recent work on the chiral extensions of the WZNW phase space describing both the extensions based on fields with generic monodromy as well as those using Bloch waves with diagonal monodromy. The symplectic form on the extended phase space is inverted in both cases and the chiral WZNW fields are found to satisfy quadratic Poisson bracket relations characterized by monodromy dependent exchange r-matrices. Explicit expressions for the exchange r-matrices in terms of the arbitrary monodromy dependent 2-form appearing in the chiral WZNW symplectic form are given. The exchange r-matrices in the general case are shown to satisfy a new dynamical generalization of the classical modified Yang-Baxter (YB) equation and Poisson-Lie (PL) groupoids are constructed that encode this equation analogously as PL groups encode the classical YB equation. For an arbitrary simple Lie group $G$, exchange r-matrices are exhibited that are in one-to-one correspondence with the possible PL structures on $G$ and admit them as PL symmetries.

Wakimoto realizations of current and exchange algebras

Working at the level of Poisson brackets, we describe the extension of the generalized Wakimoto realization of a simple Lie algebra valued current, J, to a corresponding realization of a group valued chiral primary field, b, that has diagonal monodromy and satisfies $Kb'=Jb$. The chiral WZNW field b is subject to a monodromy dependent exchange algebra, whose derivation is reviewed, too.

Classical Wakimoto Realizations of Chiral WZNW Bloch Waves

It is well-known that the chiral WZNW Bloch waves satisfy a quadratic classical exchange algebra which implies the affine Kac-Moody algebra for the corresponding currents. We here obtain a direct derivation of the exchange algebra by inverting the symplectic form on the space of Bloch waves, and give a completely algorithmic construction of its generalized free field realizations that extend the classical Wakimoto realizations of the current algebra.

The Chiral WZNW Phase Space and its Poisson-Lie Groupoid

The precise relationship between the arbitrary monodromy dependent 2-form appearing in the chiral WZNW symplectic form and the `exchange r-matrix' that governs the corresponding Poisson brackets is established. Generalizing earlier results related to diagonal monodromy, the exchange r-matrices are shown to satisfy a new dynamical generalization of the classical modified Yang-Baxter equation, which is found to admit an interpretation in terms of (new) Poisson-Lie groupoids. Dynamical exchange r-matrices for which right multiplication yields a classical or a Poisson-Lie symmetry on the chiral WZNW phase space are presented explicitly.

Chiral Extensions of the WZNW Phase Space, Poisson-Lie Symmetries and Groupoids

The chiral WZNW symplectic form $Ω^ρ_{chir}$ is inverted in the general case. Thereby a precise relationship between the arbitrary monodromy dependent 2-form appearing in $Ω^ρ_{chir}$ and the exchange r-matrix that governs the Poisson brackets of the group valued chiral fields is established. The exchange r-matrices are shown to satisfy a new dynamical generalization of the classical modified Yang-Baxter (YB) equation and Poisson-Lie (PL) groupoids are constructed that encode this equation analogously as PL groups encode the classical YB equation. For an arbitrary simple Lie group G, exchange r-matrices are found that are in one-to-one correspondence with the possible PL structures on G and admit them as PL symmetries.

Ghost Systems: A Vertex Algebra Point of View

Fermionic and bosonic ghost systems are defined each in terms of a single vertex algebra which admits a one-parameter family of conformal structures. The observation that these structures are related to each other provides a simple way to obtain character formulae for a general twisted module of a ghost system. The U(1) symmetry and its subgroups that underly the twisted modules also define an infinite set of invariant vertex subalgebras. Their structure is studied in detail from a W-algebra point of view with particular emphasis on Z_N-invariant subalgebras of the fermionic ghost system.

Nonstandard Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction

Subject to some conditions, the input data for the Drinfeld-Sokolov construction of KdV type hierarchies is a quadruplet $(\A,Λ, d_1, d_0)$, where the $d_i$ are $\Z$-gradations of a loop algebra $\A$ and $Λ\in \A$ is a semisimple element of nonzero $d_1$-grade. A new sufficient condition on the quadruplet under which the construction works is proposed and examples are presented. The proposal relies on splitting the $d_1$-grade zero part of $\A$ into a vector space direct sum of two subalgebras. This permits one to interpret certain Gelfand-Dickey type systems associated with a nonstandard splitting of the algebra of pseudo-differential operators in the Drinfeld-Sokolov framework.
