The pulsating hot subdwarf Balloon 090100001: results of the 2005 multisite campaign

We present the results of a multisite photometric campaign on the pulsating sdB star Balloon 090100001. The star is one of the two known hybrid hot subdwarfs with both long- and short-period oscillations. The campaign involved eight telescopes with three obtaining UBVR data, four B-band data, and one Stromgren uvby photometry. The campaign covered 48 nights, providing a temporal resolution of 0.36microHz with a detection threshold of about 0.2mmag in B-filter data. Balloon 090100001 has the richest pulsation spectrum of any known pulsating subdwarf B star and our analysis detected 114 frequencies including 97 independent and 17 combination ones. The strongest mode (f_1) in the 2.8mHz region is most likely radial while the remaining ones in this region form two nearly symmetric multiplets: a triplet and quintuplet, attributed to rotationally split \ell=1 and 2 modes, respectively. We find clear increases of splitting in both multiplets between the 2004 and 2005 observing campaigns, amounting to 15% on average. The observed splittings imply that the rotational rate in Bal09 depends on stellar latitude and is the fastest on the equator. We use a small grid of models to constrain the main mode (f_1), which most likely represents the radial fundamental pulsation. The groups of p-mode frequencies appear to lie in the vicinity of consecutive radial overtones, up to the third one. Despite the large number of g-mode frequencies observed, we failed to identify them, most likely because of the disruption of asymptotic behaviour by mode trapping. The observed frequencies were not, however, fully exploited in terms of seismic analysis which should be done in the future with a larger grid of reliable evolutionary models of hot subdwarfs.

On the variability of HD 170699 - a possible COROT target

We present the analysis of the variability of HD 170699, a COROT star showing the characteristics of a non evolutionary Delta Scuti star with high rotational velocity. There is a clear period of 10.45 c/d with 5.29 mmag amplitude in the y filter. From the data, it can be seen that the star shows multi-periodicity and it is necessary to add more frequencies to adjust the observations

On the nature of Delta Scuti star HD 115520

Observing Delta Scuti stars is most important as their multi-frequency spectrum of radial pulsations provide strong constraints on the physics of the stars interior; so any new detection and observation of these stars is a valuable contribution to asteroseismology. While performing uvby-beta photoelectric photometry of some RR Lyrae stars acquired in 2005 at the Observatorio Astronomico Nacional, Mexico, we also observed several standard stars, HD115520 among them. After the reduction this star showed indications of variability. In view of this, a new observing run was carried out in 2006 during which we were able to demonstrate its variability and its nature as a Delta Scuti star. New observations in 2007 permitted us to determine its periodic content with more accuracy. This, along with the uvby-beta photoelectric photometry allowed us to deduce its physical characteristics and pulsational modes.

CCD Photometry of Delta Scuti stars 7 Aql and 8 Aql

As a continuation of the study of the Delta Scuti stars 7 Aql and 8 Aql; new CCD photometric data were acquired in 2007. We present a period analysis on these data that confirm the dominant modes detected in each star in the framework of the STEPHI XII campaign in 2003.

uvby--beta photoelectric photometry of NGC 7063

From uvby photometry of 75 stars in the direction of NGC 7063 we were able to determine membership of some stars and fix the distance (722 +- 105 pc), log age (of 8.146) and reddening (E(b-y) = 0.091 +- 0.039 mag) for the cluster.

On the nature of Delta Scuti star HD 115520

As a continuation of the study of the newly found Delta Scuti star HD 115520, we present a period analysis of recently acquired photometric data covering four nights, as well as some conclusions on the nature of this star.

Pulsational frequencies of the eclipsing delta-Scuti star HD 172189

The eclipsing delta-Scuti star HD 172189 is a probable member of the open cluster IC 4756 and a promising candidate target for the CoRoT mission. The detection of pulsation modes is the first step in the asteroseismological study of the star. Further, the calculation of the orbital parameters of the binary system allows us to make a dynamical determination of the mass of the star, which works as an important constraint to test and calibrate the asteroseismological models. From a detailed frequency analysis of 210 hours of photometric data of HD 172189 obtained from the STEPHI XIII campaign we have identified six pulsation frequencies with a confidence level of 99% and a seventh with a 65% confidence level in the range between 100-300 uHz. In addiction, three eclipses were observed during the campaign, allowing us to improve the determination of the orbital period of the system.

Multi-site observations of Delta Scuti stars 7 Aql and 8 Aql (a new Delta Scuti variable): The twelfth STEPHI campaign in 2003

We present an analysis of the pulsation behaviour of the Delta Scuti stars 7 Aql (HD 174532) and 8 Aql (HD 174589) -- a new variable star -- observed in the framework of STEPHI XII campaign during 2003 June--July. 183 hours of high precision photometry were acquired by using four-channel photometers at three sites on three continents during 21 days. The light curves and amplitude spectra were obtained following a classical scheme of multi-channel photometry. Observations in different filters were also obtained and analyzed. Six and three frequencies have been unambiguously detected above a 99% confidence level in the range 0.090 mHz--0.300 mHz and 0.100 mHz-- 0.145 mHz in 7 Aql and 8 Aql respectively. A comparison of observed and theoretical frequencies shows that 7 Aql and 8 Aql may oscillate with p modes of low radial orders, typical among Delta Scuti stars. In terms of radial oscillations the range of 8 Aql goes from n=1 to n=3 while for 7 Aql the range spans from n=4 to n=7. Non-radial oscillations have to be present in both stars as well. The expected range of excited modes according to a non adiabatic analysis goes from n=1 to n=6 in both stars.

A seismological analysis of Delta Scuti stars in the Pleiades cluster

A comparison between the oscillation frequencies of six multi-periodic Delta Scuti stars of the Pleiades cluster and the eigenfrequencies of rotating stellar models that match the corresponding stellar parameters has been carried out. The assumption that all the stars considered have some common parameters, such as metallicity, distance or age, is imposed as a constraint. As a result, we have a best fit solution associated with a cluster metallicity of [Fe/H] ~ 0.067, an age between 70x10^6 and 100x10^6 yr and a distance modulus of mv-Mv=5.60-5.70 mag. All the stars were found to oscillate mainly in non-radial, low degree, low order p modes. Estimates of mass and rotation rates for each star are also obtained

A study of correlation between the oscillation amplitude and stellar parameters for delta Scuti stars in open clusters. Toward selection rules for delta Scuti stars oscillations

In the present work, we study correlations between stellar fundamental parameters and the oscillation amplitude for delta Scuti stars. We present this study for a sample of 17 selected delta Scuti stars belonging to 5 young open clusters. Taking advantage of properties of delta Scuti stars in clusters, we correct the photometric parameters of our objects for the effect of fast rotation. We confirm the benefit of applying such corrections in this kind of studies. In addition, the technique used for this correction allows us to obtain an estimation of stellar parameters like the angle of inclination and the rotation rate, usually not accessible. A significant correlation between the parameter i' (estimation of the angle of inclination of the star) and the oscillation amplitude is found. A discussion and interpretation of these a priori surprising results is proposed, in terms of a possible selection rule for oscillation modes of delta Scuti stars.
