Qcombo: A Python Package for Automated Commutator Calculations of Quantum Many-Body Operators

qcombo is a Python package for the symbolic evaluation of commutators between general quantum many-body operators expressed in normal-ordered form using the generalized Wick theorem. The package provides an automated and systematic framework for generating the corresponding algebraic expressions, significantly reducing the risk of human error in lengthy and complex analytical derivations. It is designed to assist the development and implementation of modern many-body methods in nuclear physics, quantum chemistry, and related fields. The functionality and workflow of the package are demonstrated through an application to the in-medium similarity renormalization group (IMSRG) method, which has been widely used for nuclear ab initio calculations. As a representative example, qcombo is employed to automatically generate the complete set of multi-reference IMSRG flow equations with operators truncated at the normal-ordered three-body level.

In-medium similarity renormalization group for a pairing-plus-particle-hole model

We benchmark two implementations of the in-medium similarity renormalization group (IMSRG) method, IMSRG(2) and IMSRG(2*), for the low-lying states of a pairing-plus-particle-hole model with varying numbers of fermions. In IMSRG(2), all operators are truncated up to the normal-ordered two-body terms, whereas IMSRG(2*) includes an additional term to partially account for higher-body contributions. The results are compared against exact solutions. We find that IMSRG(2*) consistently outperforms IMSRG(2) for both ground and excited states, although achieving convergence for excited states remains more challenging in strongly correlated systems than for the ground state.

Emulating generator coordinate method with extended eigenvector continuation: Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model

We present a benchmark study of generator coordinate method (GCM) combined with eigenvector continuation (EC) in two different schemes for the low-lying states of Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick (LMG) model, where the interaction strength is treated as a controlling parameter, simulating quantum many-body systems with the phase transition from non-collective to collective states. We demonstrate that the EC$_{\rm kmax}$ scheme accurately reproduces the low-lying states of the LMG model. In this scheme, the EC basis consists of the wave functions of low-lying states up to the $k_{\rm max}$-th state of sampling Hamiltonians. Compared to EC$_1$, which only includes the wave functions of the $k$-th state of sampling Hamiltonians for the $k$-th state of a target Hamiltonian, the EC$_{\rm kmax}$ scheme exhibits significantly improved efficiency and accuracy. This study suggests the potential utilization of the extended EC scheme as an efficient emulator for GCM calculations.

Deep underground laboratory measurement of $^{13}$C($α$,$n$)$^{16}$O in the Gamow windows of the $s$- and $i$-processes

The $^{13}$C($α$,$n$)$^{16}$O reaction is the main neutron source for the slow-neutron-capture (s-) process in Asymptotic Giant Branch stars and for the intermediate (i-) process. Direct measurements at astrophysical energies in above-ground laboratories are hindered by the extremely small cross sections and vast cosmic-ray induced background. We performed the first consistent direct measurement in the range of $E_{\rm c.m.}=$0.24 MeV to 1.9 MeV using the accelerators at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL) and Sichuan University. Our measurement covers almost the entire i-process Gamow window in which the large uncertainty of the previous experiments has been reduced from 60\% down to 15\%, eliminates the large systematic uncertainty in the extrapolation arising from the inconsistency of existing data sets, and provides a more reliable reaction rate for the studies of the s- and i-processes along with the first direct determination of the alpha strength for the near-threshold state.

Properties and Performance of Two Wide Field of View Cherenkov/Fluorescence Telescope Array Prototypes

A wide field of view Cherenkov/fluorescence telescope array is one of the main components of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory project. To serve as Cherenkov and fluorescence detectors, a flexible and mobile design is adopted for easy reconfiguring of the telescope array. Two prototype telescopes have been constructed and successfully run at the site of the ARGO-YBJ experiment in Tibet. The features and performance of the telescopes are presented.

Geometry and optics calibration of WFCTA prototype telescopes using star light

The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory project is proposed to study high energy gamma ray astronomy ( 40 GeV-1 PeV ) and cosmic ray physics ( 20 TeV-1 EeV ). The wide field of view Cherenkov telescope array, as a component of the LHAASO project, will be used to study energy spectrum and compositions of cosmic ray by measuring the total Cherenkov light generated by air showers and shower maximum depth. Two prototype telescopes have been in operation since 2008. The pointing accuracy of each telescope is crucial to the direction reconstruction of the primary particles. On the other hand the primary energy reconstruction relies on the shape of the Cherenkov image on the camera and the unrecorded photons due to the imperfect connections between photomultiplier tubes. UV bright stars are used as point-like objects to calibrate the pointing and to study the optical properties of the camera, the spot size and the fractions of unrecorded photons in the insensitive areas of the camera.
