Common Approaches in Description of Ordinary Liquids and Hadronic Matter

This work is an attempt to give a brief overview of the implementation of the statistical ther- modynamics to hadronic matter. The possibility to use the hydrodynamic approach for developing the physical model of the formation of exotic structures in the head-on intermediate-energy heavy ion collisions is discussed. That approach is shown to be able to provide simple analytical expressions describing each step of the collision process. This allows for extracting the data concerning nuclear matter properties (surface tension, compressibility, etc.) from the properties of observed fragments. The advantages of the thermodynamic analysis of phase trajectories of the system in heavy ion collisions are discussed. Within the thermodynamic approach, the method to evaluate the curvature correction to the surface tension from the nuclear matter equation of state is described. The possibility to use statistical thermodynamics in the studies of hadronic matter and quantum liquids is discussed.

Curvature correction term as a constraint for the Skyrme interaction

The curvature correction term to the surface tension is used as a criterion for the efficiency of the Skyrme interaction in describing surface properties. Based on the nuclear equation of state, the curvature correction term to the surface tension coefficient is calculated for 97 standard Skyrme interaction parameter sets in the vicinity of nuclear saturation density at zero temperature. The main idea is to find those parametrizations that give the Tolman's $δ$ correction close to the available theoretical predictions from the statistical theory. Only 59 out of 97 models give satisfactory results. Comparison of the obtained results with the results of the implementation of different macroscopic and microscopic constraints to Skyrme parametrizations available in the literature allows us to select 4 models that satisfy all the constraints.

Cosmological model with variable vacuum pressure

Scenarios of cosmological evolution having inflationary stages are studied by using equations of state (EoS) inspired by the quark bag model. A crucial point is the existence of states where the specific enthalpy of the cosmological fluid vanishes. A large class of barotropic EoS admits, depending upon initial conditions, for a concrete equation of state, analogs of the "Big Rip" as well as solutions describing an exponential inflation followed by the usual matter dominance. We found scalar field potentials that mimic the behavior of the cosmological scale factor in case of special EoS from the above class. Extensions to more general two-parametric EoS are discussed that describe a pre-inflationary evolution.

Evaluation of the curvature-correction term from the equation of state of nuclear matter

Based on the nuclear equation of state, the curvature correction term to the surface tension coefficient is calculated. Tolman $δ$ correction is shown to be sensitive to the Skyrme force parametrization. The temperature dependence of the Tolman length, important in heavy ion collisions experiments, is derived. In suggested approach the curvature term is related to the bulk properties of the nuclear matter through the equation of state. The obtained results are compared with the existing theoretical calculations based on the Gibbs-Tolman formalism and with the theoretical predictions concerning its dependence on the interparticle distance.

Explicit Model Realizing Parton-Hadron Duality

We present a model that realizes both resonance-Regge (Veneziano) and parton-hadron (Bloom-Gilman) duality. We first review the features of the Veneziano model and we discuss how parton-hadron duality appears in the Bloom-Gilman model. Then we review limitations of the Veneziano model, namely that the zero-width resonances in the Veneziano model violate unitarity and Mandelstam analyticity. We discuss how such problems are alleviated in models that construct dual amplitudes with Mandelstam analyticity (so-called DAMA models). We then introduce a modified DAMA model, and we discuss its properties. We present a pedagogical model for dual amplitudes and we construct the nucleon structure function F2(x,Q2). We explicitly show that the resulting structure function realizes both Veneziano and Bloom-Gilman duality.

Exclusive J/Psi photo- and electroproduction in a dual model

Exclusive J/Ψphoto- and electroproduction is studied in the framework of the analytic S-matrix theory. The differential and integrated elastic cross sections are calculated using the Modified Dual Amplitude with Mandelstam Analyticity (M-DAMA) model. The model is applied to the description of the available experimantal data and proves to be valid in a wide region of the kinematical variables s, t, and Q^2. Our amplitude can be used also as a universal background parametrization for the extraction of tiny resonance signals.

Critical Phenomena in DIS

Saturation in deep inelastic scattering (DIS) and deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) is associated with a phase transition between the partonic gas, typical of moderate $x$ and $Q^2$, and partonic fluid appearing at increasing $Q^2$ and decreasing Bjorken $x$. In the statistical interpretation of DIS, the large-$x,(1-x)^n$ factor in the SF is associated with a statistical distribution (perfect gas), while the low-$x$, Regge behaved factor $x^{b(Q^2)}$ produces deviations from the perfect gas and ultimately leads to a gas-liquid phase transition. In this paper we do not intend to propose another parametrization of the structure function; instead we suggest a new insight into the internal structure of the nucleon, as seen in DIS, and its connection with that revealed in high-energy nucleons and heavy-ion collisions.

Saturation and Critical Phenomena in DIS

It is argued that the expected turn-down in $x- Q^2$ of the cross sections (structure functions $F_2(x,Q^2)$), assumed to result from the saturation of parton densities in the nucleon, is related to a phase transition from the (almost) ideal partonic gas, obeying Bjorken scaling, to a partonic "liquid". This can be quantified in the framework of statistical models, percolation and other approaches to collective phenomena of the strongly interacting matter. Similarities and differences between the case of lepton-hadron, hadron-hadron and nuclear collisions are discussed.

J/Psi Photoproduction in a Dual Model

J/Psi photoproduction is studied in the framework of the analytic S-matrix theory. The differential and integrated elastic cross sections for J/Psi photoproduction are calculated from a Dual Amplitude with Mandelstam Analyticity. It is argued that at low energies, the background, which is the low-energy equivalent of the high-energy diffraction replaces the Pomeron exchange. The onset of the high energy Pomeron dominance is estimated from the fits to the data.

Asymptotic neutrino-nucleon cross section and saturation effects

In this paper we present a simple analytic expression for the (spin-averaged) neutrino-nucleon cross section for ultra-high energies at twist-2, obtained as the asymptotic limit of our previous findings. This expression gives values for the cross section in remarkable numerical agreement with the previous numerical evaluation in the energy region relevant for forthcoming neutrino experiments. Moreover, we discuss the role and the relevance of saturation and recombination effects in our approach, in comparison with other recent suggestions.

Analytical evolution of nucleon structure functions with power corrections at twist-4 and predictions for ultra-high energy neutrino-nucleon cross section

In this paper we present an analytic result for the evolution in $Q^2$ of the structure functions for the neutrino-nucleon interaction, valid at twist-2 in the region of small values of the Bjorken $x$ variable and for soft non-perturbative input. In the special case of flat initial conditions, we include in the calculation also the contribution of the twist-4 gluon recombination corrections, whose effect in the evolution is explicitly determined. Finally, we estimate the resulting charged-current neutrino-nucleon total cross section and discuss its behavior at ultra-high energies.

Baryonic Regge trajectories with analyticity constraints

A model for baryonic Regge trajectories compatible with the threshold behavior required by unitarity and asymptotic behavior in agreement with analyticity constraints is given in explicit form. Widths and masses of the baryonic resonances on the N and $Δ$ trajectories are reproduced. The MacDowell symmetry is exploited and an application is given.
