Coherent and Non-Coherent Double Diffractive Production of $ Q \bar {Q} $ - pairs in Collisions of Heavy Ions at High Energies

The double coherent and non-coherent diffractive production of heavy quark - antiquark pairs ($Q \bar{Q}$) in heavy ion scattering at high energies (LHC) is considered. The total and differential cross sections of these processes with the formation of $c \bar{c}$ and $b \bar{b}$ pairs in $pp$, $CaCa$ and $PbPb$ collisions are evaluated. The contribution of the considered mechanisms is a few per cent of the number of heavy quark - antiquark pairs obtained in the processes of hard (QCD) scattering, and it will be taken into account in the registration of $c$, $b$ quarks or, for instance, in the study of the heavy quarkonia suppression effects in Quark - Gluon Plasma, in the search for intermediate mass Higgs bosons and so on. It is shown that the cross section of the coherent scattering process is great enough. This makes it suitable for studying collective effects in nuclear interactions at high energies. An example of such effects is given: large values of the invariant mass of a $Q \bar{Q}$pair, $M_{Q \bar{Q}} \gsim 100$ GeV, in association with a large rapidity gap between diffractive jets $Δη> 5$.

Parametrising the proton structure function

We show that simple parametrisations at small x of the proton structure function work so well in limited regions of the $(x,Q^2)$ plane because they are approximately "self-consistent" solutions of the QCD evolution equation. For a class of them, we predict their $Q^2$ dependence and compare the result with experimental data.

Pomeron Non Factorization in Diffractive Scattering at HERA

Pomeron non factorization for the diffractive scattering is considered and an analysis of experimental data is performed with different cuts in the momentum fraction $ξ$. The results of the analysis are compared with the breaking predicted in the Genovese-Nikolaev-Zakharov model.

Proton Diffraction Dissociation and Unitarity

It is shown that the dipole pomeron model of single diffraction dissociation -- contrary to the case of the supercritical pomeron -- is compatible with the inequality $σ^{SD}\leqσ^{tot}$, imposed by unitarity, provided the triple pomeron coupling satisfies certain conditions. With the adopted approximation the model considered as a parcticular solution of the triple pomeron decoupling problem. Explicit forms of such a coupling and a qualitative comparison with the experimental data on single DD are presented. The modified factorization properties of the model are also discussed.

Regge Pole Model for Vector Meson Photoproduction at HERA

Recent $HERA$ data on the photoproduction of vector mesons are analysed within a "soft", dipole pomeron model. We argued that the data on $σ^{γ\rightarrow J/ψ}_{el}$ is consistent with a soft pomeron, the apparent rapid increase resulting from the non-asymptotic effects due to the delayed asymptotics of $σ_{el}$ with respect to $σ_{tot}$.

Non-Linear Pomeron Trajectory in Diffractive Deep Inelastic Scattering

Recent experimental data on diffractive deep inelastic scattering collected by the H1 and ZEUS Collaborations at HERA are analysed in a model with a non-linear trajectory in the pomeron flux. The $t$ dependence of the diffractive structure function $F_2^{D(4)}$ is predicted. The normalization of the pomeron flux and the (weak) $Q^2$ dependence of the pomeron structure function are revised as well.

$S$-matrix representation of the finite temperature propagator in $λϕ^4$-QFT

The two-point Green function of the massive scalar $(3+1)$-quantum field theory with $λϕ^4$ interaction at finite temperature is evaluated up to the 2nd order of perturbation theory. The averaging on the vacuum fluctuations is separated from the averaging on the thermal fluctuations explicitly. As a result, the temperature dependent part of the propagator is expressed through the scattering amplitudes. The obtained expression is generalized for higher orders of perturbation theory.

Diffractive Deep-Inelastic Scattering

Diffractive deep inelastic events with a large rapidity gap are analyzed by using a Regge model for the pomeron flux and a gluonic content for the pomeron. Contrary to the expectations, the simplest assumption for the pomeron trajectory gives the best agreement with the data on the ratio of diffractive to the total number of events. In this case the main properties of the model are described by an analytic expression.
