Origin of Reactor Antineutrino Anomaly

The reactor antineutrino anomaly, discovered in 2011, means a noticeable difference between the observed rate of inverse beta decays and the expected (theoretical) rate of such processes based on the measurement of the spectra of electrons in beta decay of $^{235}$U, $^{239}$Pu, $^{241}$Pu, and $^{238}$U nuclei and their subsequent conversion into right-handed antineutrino spectra. This paper provides a rationale for the fact that both right-handed and left-handed antineutrinos are produced in beta decays of nuclei. But the conversion procedure in any case assigns a right-handed antineutrino to each electron, which leads to the superiority of the theoretical rate of inverse beta decays over the experimental one. The right-handed antineutrino is produced in the mode of beta decay of the nucleus due to the standard electroweak interaction. The left-handed antineutrino appears in the mode caused by the existence of a interaction, the carrier of which is a massless pseudoscalar boson having a Yukawa coupling with the electron neutrino and nucleons. The emission of such a boson from a virtual right-handed antineutrino converts it into a free left-handed antineutrino.

Logic and numbers related to solar neutrinos

In this work, first of all, we analyze a number of hidden aspects of the concept of particle oscillations. The key element of this concept, which do not comply with the principle of least action, is the notion of a mixture of particles, introduced by Gell-Mann and Pais for neutral $K$-mesons. It has been proven that the law of conservation of energy-momentum in the processes of electron neutrino production does not allow solving the problem of solar neutrinos based on the assumption of Gribov and Pontecorvo about their oscillations. It has been established that the consequences of Wolfenstein's equation contradict the results of the SNO and Super-Kamiokande collaborations and that the assertion by Mikheev and Smirnov on the conversion of solar neutrinos is erroneous. Another part of the work is devoted to a logically clear solution to this problem based on the hypothesis of the existence of a new interaction, the carrier of which is a massless pseudoscalar boson, which has a Yukawa coupling with electron neutrinos and nucleons. At each act of interaction of an electron neutrino with the nucleons of the Sun, caused by such interaction, the handedness of the neutrino changes from left to right and vice versa, and also the neutrino energy decreases. The hypothesis provides good agreement between the theoretical and experimental values of the rates of all five observed processes with solar neutrinos. This serves as a significant criterion for both the confidence of such a solution to the problem of solar neutrinos and the confidence of the existence of a new interaction.

Hypothesis of a new fundamental interaction versus the particle oscillation concept

A significant part of the present work is devoted to proving that the basic elements of the particle oscillation concept either do not correspond to the principles of classical logic, or violate the energy-momentum conservation law, or contradict the quantum mechanical basis of coherence, or represent a primitive falsehood. Our analysis concerns successively all stages of the formation of the concept from its conceiving to the assertion about the conversion of the solar electron neutrino into a muon one. When discussing a new fundamental interaction, we note the decisive role in the outcome of the processes of changing the handedness of a neutrino (antineutrino) at each act of its interaction with a real or virtual massless pseudoscalar boson, due to which, at the exit from the Sun, the fluxes of left- and right-handed electron neutrinos become approximately equal. Thanks to the new interaction, beta decays of nuclei have a mode with the emission of a massless pseudoscalar boson, at which the antineutrino changes its handedness and becomes unobservable, what is the essence of the reactor antineutrino anomaly.

Brownian motion of neutrinos in the Sun [On the distribution of collisions of a neutrino with nucleons of the Sun]

When solving the solar neutrino problem on the basis of the hypothesis of the existence of a new interaction between electron neutrinos and nucleons, carried by a massless pseudoscalar boson, it becomes necessary to find the consequences of the short-term Brownian motion of neutrinos in the Sun. Earlier, we transmitted these consequences by the effective number of collisions of a neutrino with nucleons of the Sun, assuming the equality of fluxes near the Earth of left- and right-handed solar neutrinos. In this paper, we analyze the transfer of the mentioned consequences by a test geometric distribution of collisions with one free parameter. This distribution provides good agreement between theoretical and experimental results for all five observed processes with solar neutrinos, while it gives the ratio of fluxes near the Earth of left- and right-handed neutrinos equal to 0.516:0.484. With such a ratio, the acceptability of the method of the effective number of collisions of a neutrino with nucleons is again confirmed.

Consequences of the MSW mechanism with Super-Kamiokande oscillation parameters and of the volume distribution of neutrino sources in the Sun

The knowledge of the parameters of the solar neutrino oscillation model, provided by the SNO and Super-Kamiokande collaborations, enables us to obtain, with the Wolfenstein equation, a simple and clear analytical and numerical picture of the transformation of the neutrino state during its travel inside the Sun. We show that the resulting picture is not implicated in the characteristics of the neutrino state at the surface of the Sun and at the surface of the Earth. This circumstance with taking into account the volume distribution of solar neutrino sources indicates an obvious contradiction between the consequences of the MSW mechanism with parameters from SNO and Super-Kamiokande and the results of three of the five observed processes with solar neutrinos. Erroneous assertions at the base of the MSW mechanism are noted.

Hypothesis about semi-weak interaction and experiments with solar neutrinos

A new concept is proposed to solve the solar neutrino problem, that is based on a hypothesis about the existence of semi-weak interaction of electron neutrinos with nucleons mediated by massless pseudoscalar bosons. Owing to about 10 collisions of a solar neutrino with nucleons of the Sun, the fluxes of left- and right-handed solar neutrinos at the Earth surface are approximately equal, and their spectrum is changed in comparison with the one at the production moment. The postulated model with one free parameter provides a good agreement between the calculated and experimental characteristics of the processes with solar neutrinos: ${}^{37}{\rm Cl} \rightarrow {}^{37}{\rm Ar}$, ${}^{71}{\rm Ga} \rightarrow {}^{71}{\rm Ge}$, $ν_{e} e^{-}\rightarrow ν_{e} e^{-}$, and $ν_{e}D \rightarrow e^{-}pp$.

Hypothesis about semi-weak interaction and experiments with solar neutrinos. II. Deuteron disintegration by neutral currents

The present work provides one more evidence of that the solar neutrino problem has an elegant solution based on the hypothesis about the existence of a new, semi-weak, interaction. The analysis of the deuteron disintegration by neutral currents of solar neutrinos, generated by both the electroweak and semi-weak interactions, is fulfilled. A good agreement between the theoretical and experimental results for this process is obtained, which is in harmony with the conclusions of the first part of the work on the other four observed processes with solar neutrinos.

Existing and expected manifestations of a new fundamental interaction

A number of characteristics of the new fundamental interaction are described. The interaction is carried by a massless pseudoscalar boson and extends to at least the electron neutrino, proton, and neutron. A substantiation of the existence of such an interaction is supported by an good agreement between the theoretical and experimental rates of all the five observed processes with solar neutrinos. A bright manifestation of the new interaction is expected in the observation that its contribution to the rate of splitting of a number of light stable nuclei by reactor antineutrinos is approximately six orders of magnitude greater than the contribution of electroweak interaction.

On the origin of the discrepancy between the expected and observed results at KamLAND

After a logically clear and simple solution of the solar neutrino problem on the basis of the hypothesis about the existence of a new interaction involving electron neutrinos and nucleons, the question arose about the origin of the distinction between the expected and observed results of the experiment with reactor antineutrino at KamLAND. In the present work, a significant attenuation of light during its propagation in the KamLAND liquid scintillator is noted, the effect of which on the observability of the expected inverse beta-decay events and on the reconstruction of their characteristics has not been adequately analyzed. Because of this, we do not consider the declared results of the KamLAND experiment as reliable.

Deuteron disintegration by reactor antineutrinos

The existence of a new interaction involving the electron neutrino and the nucleons, which has received a convincing confirmation through a good agreement between the theoretical and experimental results concerning all observable processes with solar neutrinos, should also inevitably manifest itself in the deuteron disintegration by reactor antineutrinos neutral currents. In this paper, the analytical and numerical characteristics of such a disintegration are presented. The attention is drawn to the problem of finding the neutron registration efficiency, discussed in the preparation of the experiment at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory and in a number of special studies, to the role of quenching gas in proportional counters with helium-3 and to three performed reactor experiments with heavy water.

Solar neutrino problem as evidence of new interaction

A new concept is proposed to solve the solar neutrino problem, that is based on a hypothesis about the existence of a new interaction of electron neutrinos with nucleons mediated by massless pseudoscalar bosons. At every collision of a neutrino with nucleons of the Sun, its handedness changes from left to right and vice versa, and its energy decreases. The postulated hypothesis, having only one free parameter, provides a good agreement between the calculated and experimental characteristics of all five observed processes with solar neutrinos.

About neutral mesons and particle oscillations in the light of field-theoretical prescriptions of Weinberg

By extending the well-known Weinberg's prescriptions on the diagonalization of the mass term of the Lagrangian without increasing the total number of entities, we get the following conclusions: the set of neutral $K$-mesons consists of two elements, $K_{S}^{0}$ and $K_{L}^{0}$; the states $K^{0}$ and $\bar{K}^{0}$ do not exist as physical objects (in the form of particles or "particle mixtures"); the absence of the states $K^{0}$ and $\bar{K}^{0}$ destroys the grounds for introducing the notion of their oscillations, further replicated as the neutrino oscillation concept. The conclusions concerning the neutral $K$-mesons are also applicable to the neutral $D$-, $B$- and $B_{s}$-mesons.

Some field-theoretical aspects of two types of the Poincare group representations

The capabilities of some approaches to the relativistic description of hadronic states with any rest spin are analysed. The key feature in the Wigner's construction of irreducible representations of the Poincare group which makes this construction fruitless in the particle physics is picked out. A realization of unitary irreducible representations of the Poincare group of the standard type, which yet have never been considered, is discussed. The viability of the description of hadrons by the Poincare group representations of the standard type in the space of the infinite-component ISFIR-class fields is pointed out.

Magnetic moment operator of non-Dirac particles and some elements of polarization $ep$-experiments

An explicit form of the magnetic moment tensor operator for non-Dirac particles with rest spin 1/2 and its essential difference from the spin operator are established. Possible consequences of the last fact for the description of the spin rotation in the magnetic field and for the values of magnetic moments of some nuclei, as well as the impact of this and other facts on the validity of modelling the azimuthal asymmetry of the secondary-scattered protons in $ep$-experiments are noted.

Electromagnetic properties of non-Dirac particles with rest spin 1/2

We resolve a number of questions related to an analytic description of electromagnetic form factors of non-Dirac particles with the rest spin 1/2. We find the general structure of a matrix antisymmetric tensor operator. We obtain two recurrence relations for matrix elements of finite transformations of the proper Lorentz group and explicit formulas for a certain set of such elements. Within the theory of fields with double symmetry, we discuss writing the components of wave vectors of particles in the form of infinite continued fractions. We show that for $Q^{2} \leq 0.5$ (GeV/c)$^{2}$, where $Q^{2}$ is the transferred momentum squared, electromagnetic form factors that decrease as $Q^{2}$ increases and are close to those experimentally observed in the proton can be obtained without explicitly introducing an internal particle structure.

Electromagnetic form factors and polarizations of non-Dirac particles with rest spin 1/2

We consider one aspect of the theoretical foundations of polarization experiments on elastic scattering of electrons on protons yielding form factor ratios incompatible with those that are extracted from nonpolarization experiments. We analyze the consequences of abandoning the assumption that the nucleon is a Dirac particle. We show that the process of elastic scattering of electrons on nucleons is described by the same formulas, irrespective of the proper Lorentz group representation associated with the nucleon as a particle with the rest spin 1/2.

Mass Spectra in the Doubly Symmetric Theory of Infinite-Component Fields

We consider the problem of the characteristics of mass spectra in the doubly symmetric theory of fields transforming under the proper Lorentz group representations decomposable into an infinite direct sum of finite-dimensional irreducible representations. We show that there exists a range of free parameters of the theory where the mass spectra of fermions are quite satisfactory from the physical standpoint and correspond to the picture expected in the parton model of hadrons.
