Progress in implementing the kinematical constraint into the small-x JIMWLK evolution equation

The most complete high-energy evolution of Wilson line operators is described by the set of equations called Balitsky-JIMWLK evolution equations. It is known from the studies of the linear - the BFKL - evolution equation that the leading corrections come from the kinematically enhanced double collinear logarithms. A method for resumming such logarithmic corrections to all orders for the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation is known under the name of kinematical constraint. In this work, we discuss the progress in implementing these corrections into the Langevin formulation of the JIMWLK equation. In particular, we introduce a set of correlation functions which are nonlocal in the rapidity variable. They appear in the construction of the kinematical constraint, however, their behavior with rapidity has not been investigated numerically so far. We derive their large-$N$ evolution equations, solve them numerically, and comment on their implications for the implementation of the full kinematical constraint.

Summary of workshop on Future Physics with HERA Data

Recent highlights from the HERA experiments, Hermes, H1 and ZEUS, are reviewed and ideas for future analyses to fully exploit this unique data set are proposed. This document is a summary of a workshop on future physics with HERA data held at DESY, Hamburg at the end of 2014. All areas of HERA physics are covered and contributions from both experimentalists and theorists are included. The document outlines areas where HERA physics can still make a significant contribution, principally in a deeper understanding of QCD, and its relevance to other facilities. Within the framework of the Data Preservation in High Energy Physics, the HERA data have been preserved for analyses to take place over a timescale of 10 years and more. Therefore, although an extensive list of possibilities is presented here, safe storage of the data ensures that it can also be used in the far future should new ideas and analyses be proposed.

Proceedings of the Sixth International Workshop on Multiple Partonic Interactions at the Large Hadron Collider

Multiple Partonic Interactions are often crucial for interpreting results obtained at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The quest for a sound understanding of the dynamics behind MPI - particularly at this time when the LHC is due to start its "Run II" operations - has focused the aim of this workshop. MPI@LHC2014 concentrated mainly on the phenomenology of LHC measurements whilst keeping in perspective those results obtained at previous hadron colliders. The workshop has also debated some of the state-of-the-art theoretical considerations and the modeling of MPI in Monte Carlo event generators. The topics debated in the workshop included: Phenomenology of MPI processes and multiparton distributions; Considerations for the description of MPI in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD); Measuring multiple partonic interactions; Experimental results on inelastic hadronic collisions: underlying event, minimum bias, forward energy flow; Monte Carlo generator development and tuning; Connections with low-x phenomena, diffraction, heavy-ion physics and cosmic rays. In a total of 57 plenary talks the workshop covered a wide range of experimental results, Monte Carlo development and tuning, phenomenology and dedicated measurements of MPI which were produced with data from the LHC's Run I. Recent progress of theoretical understanding of MPI in pp, pA and AA collisions as well as the role of MPI in diffraction and small-x physics were also covered. The workshop forstered close contact between the experimental and theoretical communities. It provided a setting to discuss many of the different aspects of MPI, eventually identifying them as a unifying concept between apparently different lines of research and evaluating their impact on the LHC physics programme.

Evidence for breakdown of the DGLAP description in diffractive DIS at HERA

HERA data on diffractive DIS show deviations from twist 2 DGLAP predictions below $Q^2\sim 5$ GeV$^2$ at low pomeron $ξ$, which may reach up to 100%. These deviations are consistent with higher twists effects extracted from the saturation model. It is a first direct evidence for the higher twists in DIS. This finding affects determination of the diffractive parton densities that are used for the predictions at the LHC.

Evidence for the higher twists effects in diffractive DIS at HERA

We study a twist decomposition of diffractive structure functions in the diffractive deep inelastic scattering at HERA. At low $Q^2$ and at large energy the data exhibit a strong deviation from the twist-2 NLO DGLAP description. It is found that this deviation in consistent with higher twist effects. We conclude that the DDIS at HERA provides the first, strong evidence of higher twist effects in DIS.

Evidence of strong higher twist effects in diffractive DIS at HERA at moderate Q2

We study a twist decomposition of diffractive structure functions in the diffractive deep inelastic scattering (DDIS) at HERA. At low Q2 and at large energy the data exhibit a strong excess, up to about 100%, above the twist 2 NLO DGLAP description. The excess in consistent with higher twist effects. It is found, that complementing the DGLAP fit by twist 4 and 6 components of the GBW saturation model leads to a good description of data at low Q2. We conclude that the DDIS at HERA provides the first, strong evidence of higher twist effects in DIS.

Squark and gluino hadroproduction

We review the theoretical status of squark and gluino hadroproduction and provide numerical predictions for all squark and gluino pair-production processes at the Tevatron and at the LHC, with a particular emphasis on proton-proton collisions at 7 TeV. Our predictions include next-to-leading order supersymmetric QCD corrections and the resummation of soft gluon emission at next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy. We discuss the impact of the higher-order corrections on total cross sections, and provide an estimate of the theoretical uncertainty due to scale variation and the parton distribution functions.

Soft gluon resummation for squark and gluino pair-production at hadron colliders

We report on the study of soft gluon effects in the production of squarks and gluinos at hadron colliders. Close to production threshold, the emission of soft gluon results in the appearence of large logarithmic corrections in the theoretical expressions. In order to resum these corrections at next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy appropriate one-loop anomalous dimensions have to be calculated. We present the calculation of the anomalous dimensions for all production channels of squarks and gluinos and provide numerical predictions for the Tevatron and the LHC.

Soft gluon resummation for the production of gluino-gluino and squark-antisquark pairs at the LHC

We study the effect of soft gluon emission in the hadroproduction of gluino-gluino and squark-antisquark pairs at the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric model. We present the calculation of the one-loop soft anomalous dimension matrices controlling the colour evolution of the underlying hard-scattering processes. The numerical results for resummed cross sections for proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider are discussed in detail.

Parton Distributions

We provide an assessment of the state of the art in various issues related to experimental measurements, phenomenological methods and theoretical results relevant for the determination of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and their uncertainties, with the specific aim of providing benchmarks of different existing approaches and results in view of their application to physics at the LHC. We discuss higher order corrections, we review and compare different approaches to small x resummation, and we assess the possible relevance of parton saturation in the determination of PDFS at HERA and its possible study in LHC processes. We provide various benchmarks of PDF fits, with the specific aim of studying issues of error propagation, non-gaussian uncertainties, choice of functional forms of PDFs, and combination of data from different experiments and different processes. We study the impact of combined HERA (ZEUS-H1) structure function data, their impact on PDF uncertainties, and their implications for the computation of standard candle processes, and we review the recent F_L determination at HERA. Finally, we compare and assess methods for luminosity measurements at the LHC and the impact of PDFs on them.

Dipole models and parton saturation in ep scattering

In this contribution we briefly review the current status of the dipole models and parton saturation on the basis of results presented at the HERA-LHC workshops in the years 2006-2008. The problem of foundations of the dipole models is addressed within the QCD formalism. Some limitations of the models and open problems are pointed out. Furthermore, we review and compare the currently used dipole models and summarise the applications to describe various sets of HERA data. Finally we outline some of the theoretical approaches to the problem of multiple scattering and saturation.

Proton elastic impact factors for two, three, and four gluons

In this talk we report on recent calculation of high energy baryon scattering amplitudes in QCD. Elastic baryon impact factors for two, three and four gluons are presented and their energy evolution is described that incorporates unitarity corrections. We find that the baryon couples directly to the BFKL Pomeron, to the BKP odderon and to a new state, a three-gluon BKP Pomeron. The new state may decay into four gluons with a new 3 -> 4 transition vertex. This vertex defines the transition amplitude of the three-gluon BKP Pomeron state into two BFKL Pomerons.

Searching for odderon in exclusive vector meson hadroproduction

In this talk estimates are presented of the odderon contributions to the exclusive J/psi and Upsilon production cross-sections at the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider. The obtained cross-sections are compared to cross-sections of the dominant background subprocesses mediated by the photon exchange. Possible experimental cuts are proposed that reduce the photon background.

Exclusive photoproduction at the Tevatron and LHC within the dipole picture

We provide predictions for the rapidity distributions of exclusive photoproduced J/psi and Upsilon mesons, and Z^0 bosons, at the Tevatron and LHC. We use the equivalent-photon approximation with the photon-proton cross sections given by the impact parameter dependent dipole saturation model, which has already been shown to give a good description of a wide variety of HERA data. We derive the quark-antiquark light-cone wave functions of timelike neutral electroweak bosons. An essential difference is pointed out between the amplitude for timelike heavy boson photoproduction and the amplitude for deeply virtual Compton scattering.

Threshold resummation for squark-antisquark and gluino-pair production at the LHC

We study the effect of soft gluon emission in the hadroproduction of squark-antisquark and gluino-gluino pairs at the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric model. The one-loop soft anomalous dimension matrices controlling the colour evolution of the underlying hard-scattering processes are calculated. We present the resummed total cross sections and show numerical results for proton-proton collisions at 14 TeV. The size of the NLL contribution to the cross section and the reduction of the scale dependence of the theoretical predictions due to including soft gluon effects are discussed.

Baryon scattering at high energies: wave function, impact factor, and gluon radiation

The scattering of a baryon consisting of three massive quarks is investigated in the high energy limit of perturbative QCD. A model of a relativistic proton-like wave function, dependent on valence quark longitudinal and transverse momenta and on quark helicities, is proposed, and we derive the baryon impact factors for two, three and four t-channel gluons. We find that the baryonic impact factor can be written as a sum of three pieces: in the first one a subsystem consisting of two of the three quarks behaves very much like the quark-antiquark pair in gamma* scattering, whereas the third quark acts as a spectator. The second term belongs to the odderon, whereas in the third (C-even) piece all three quarks participate in the scattering. This term is new and has no analogue in gamma* scattering. We also study the small x evolution of gluon radiation for each of these three terms. The first term follows the same pattern of gluon radiation as the gamma*-initiated quark-antiquark dipole, and, in particular, it contains the BFKL evolution followed by the 2-->4 transition vertex (triple Pomeron vertex). The odderon-term is described by the standard BKP evolution, and the baryon couples to both known odderon solutions, the Janik-Wosiek solution and the BLV solution. Finally, the t-channel evolution of the third term starts with a three reggeized gluon state which then, via a new 3-->4 transition vertex, couples to the four gluon (two-Pomeron) state. We briefly discuss a few consequences of these findings, in particular the pattern of unitarization of high energy baryon scattering amplitudes.

Heavy Quarks: Summary Report

The present status of the heavy-quark production theory is critically reviewed in the first contribution. The second contribution summarises the present heavy flavour data from HERA and gives an outlook of what can be expected from HERA-II. The potential of the LHC experiments for charm and beauty physics is reviewed in the 3rd contribution. Then the relevance of saturation and small-x effects to heavy quark production at HERA and at the LHC are discussed. The non-perturbative aspects of heavy-quark fragmentation and their relevance to HERA and LHC are discussed in the next contribution. Finally, a comparison of different theoretical predictions for HERA and LHC based on different approaches is presented.

Exclusive J/psi and Upsilon hadroproduction and the QCD odderon

We study pp and p\bar p collisions which lead to the exclusive production of J/psi or Upsilon from the pomeron-odderon and the pomeron-photon fusion. We calculate scattering amplitudes of these processes in the lowest order approximation and in the framework of k_T factorization. We present estimates of cross sections for the kinematic conditions of the Tevatron and of the LHC.
