Power-law expansion and Higgs-type potential in a scalar-tensor model

In the scalar-tensor model with Gauss-Bonnet and kinetic couplings, the power-law dark energy solution may be described by Higgs-type potential. It was found that in the solution describing early time epoch of matter dominance, the potential presents symmetry breaking phase, and the power law solution leading to accelerated expansion corresponds to Higgs-type potential in its symmetric shape.

Natural scaling for dark energy

We propose a dark energy density based on the Gauss-Bonnet 4-dimensional invariant and its modification. This model avoids the necessity of introducing the black hole limit to define the holographic density, since it can be considered as a non-saturated regime. This allows to describe the dark energy with an equation of state and Hubble parameter behaving in a way that can be adjusted very well to recent observations. The model presents quintom behavior without any future finite-time singularities.

Quintessential and phantom power-law solutions in scalar tensor model of dark energy

We consider a scalar-tensor model of dark energy with kinetic and Gauss Bonnet couplings. We study the conditions for the existence of quintessential and phantom power-law expansion, and also analyze these conditions in absence of potential (closely related to string theory). A mechanism to avoid the Big Rip singularity in various asymptotic limits of the model has been studied. It was found that the kinetic and Gauss-Bonnet couplings might prevent the Big Rip singularity in a phantom scenario. The autonomous system for the model has been used to study the stability properties of the power-law solution, and the centre manifold analysis was used to treat zero eigenvalues.

Exact solutions in a scalar-tensor model of dark energy

We consider a model of scalar field with non minimal kinetic and Gauss Bonnet couplings as a source of dark energy. Based on asymptotic limits of the generalized Friedmann equation, we impose restrictions on the kinetic an Gauss-Bonnet couplings. This restrictions considerable simplify the equations, allowing for exact solutions unifying early time matter dominance with transitions to late time quintessence and phantom phases. The stability of the solutions in absence of matter has been studied.

Big Rip and Little Rip solutions in scalar model with kinetic and Gauss Bonnet couplings

Late time cosmological solutions for scalar field model with kinetic and Gauss Bonnet couplings are considered. The quintom scenario is realized with and without Big Rip singularity. We find that under specific choice of the Gauss Bonnet coupling, the model considerable simplifies, giving rise to solutions where the kinetic term is proportional to the square of the Hubble parameter. This allows to reconstruct the model for a suitable cosmological evolution. We considered a solution that matches the observed behavior of the equation of state, while Big Rip singularity may be present or absent, depending on the parameters of the solution. Evolutionary scenarios known as Little Rip, have also been considered.

Late time cosmological scenarios from scalar field with Gauss Bonnet and non-minimal kinetic couplings

We study a model of scalar field with kinetic terms non-minimally coupled to to the curvature, and the scalar field coupled to the Gauss Bonnet 4-dimensional invariant. A variety of solutions are found, giving rise to different cosmological scenarios. A unified description of early time matter (radiation) dominance with transitions to late time quintessence and phantom phases have been made. Among others, we found solutions unifying asymptotically the early power law behavior and late time cosmological constant. Solutions of Chaplygin gas and generalized Chaplygin gas cosmologies have also been found.

Dark energy from scalar field with Gauss Bonnet and non-minimal kinetic coupling

We study a model of scalar field with a general non-minimal kinetic coupling to itself and to the curvature, and additional coupling to the Gauss Bonnet 4-dimensional invariant. The model presents rich cosmological dynamics and some of its solutions are analyzed. A variety of scalar fields and potentials giving rise to power-law expansion have been found. The dynamical equation of state is studied for two cases, with and without free kinetic term . In both cases phenomenologically acceptable solutions have been found. Some solutions describe essentially dark energy behavior, and and some solutions contain the decelerated and accelerated phases.

Non-minimal kinetic coupling and Chaplygin gas cosmology

In the frame of the scalar field model with non minimal kinetic coupling to gravity, we study the cosmological solutions of the Chaplygin gas model of dark energy. By appropriately restricting the potential, we found the scalar field, the potential and coupling giving rise to the Chaplygin gas solution. Extensions to the generalized and modified Chaplygin gas have been made.

Holographic unification of dark matter and dark energy

Using a new version of the holographic principle, a constant term was introduced, which conduces to the description of the standard cosmological LCDM model, and unifies under the same concept the dark matter and dark energy phenomena. The obtained model improves the results of previously considered holographic models based on local quantities. The inclusion of constant term is interpreted as a natural first approximation for the infrared cutoff which is associated with the vacuum energy, and the additional terms guarantee an appropriate evolutionary scenario that fits the astrophysical observations. The model allows to reproduce the standard LCDM model without explicitly introducing matter content, and using only geometrical quantities. It is also obtained that the model may describe the dark energy beyond the standard LCDM.

The holographic principle and the cosmological constant

We propose an infrared cut-off for the holographic density which incorporates among others a constant term, that produces the effect of the cosmological constant, improving the results of previously considered holographic models based on local quantities. The inclusion of constant term is interpreted as a natural first approximation for the infrared cutoff which is associated with the vacuum energy, and the additional terms guarantee an appropriate evolutionary scenario that fits the astrophysical observations. Cosmological constraints on the model have been studied using the observational data.

Non-minimal kinetic coupling and the phenomenology of dark energy

We study a model of scalar field with a general non-minimal kinetic coupling to itself and to the curvature. The cosmological dynamics of this model and the issue of accelerated expansion is analyzed. Solutions giving rise to power law expansion have been found. By constraining the potential of the model, we obtained a variety of solutions corresponding to phenomenologically acceptable models of dark energy, like the $Λ$CDM model, variable cosmological constant model VCC, FRW with two dimensional topological defects, FRW with phantom dark energy, showing that this model with the appropriate potential in each case, can describe a rich variety of dynamical scenarios.

General Non-minimal Kinetic coupling to gravity

We study a new model of scalar field with a general non-minimal kinetic coupling to itself and to the curvature, as a source of dark energy, and analyze the cosmological dynamics of this model and the issue of accelerated expansion. A wide variety of scalar fields and potentials giving rise to power-law expansion have been found. The dynamical equation of state is studied for the two cases, without and with free kinetic term . In the first case, a behavior very close to that of the cosmological constant was found. In the second case, a solution was found, which match the current phenomenology of the dark energy. The model shows a rich variety of dynamical scenarios.

Non-minimal Kinetic coupling to gravity and accelerated expansion

We study a scalar field with kinetic term coupled to itself and to the curvature, as a source of dark energy, and analyze the role of this new coupling in the accelerated expansion at large times. In the case of scalar field dominance, the scalar field and potential giving rise to power-law expansion are found in some cases, and a dynamical equation of state is calculated for a given solution of the field equations. A behavior very close to that of the cosmological constant was found.

Holographic reconstruction of the k-essence and dilaton models

We propose an holographic $k$-essence and dilaton models of dark energy. The correspondence between the $k$-essence and dilaton energy densities with the holographic density, allows the reconstruction of the potential and the fields for the $k$-essence and dilaton models in flat FRW background. For the proposed infrared cut-off the reconstruction was made for the two cases of the constant $α$: for $α<1$ the model presents phantom crossing and the reconstruction was made in the region before the $ω=-1$ crossing for the EoS parameter. The cosmological dynamics for $α>1$ was also reconstructed. The reconstruction is consistent with the observational data.

Holographic dark energy with non-minimal coupling

We study a scalar field non-minimally coupled to the curvature, in the framework of holographic dark energy. We obtain a relation between the coupling of the scalar field and the holographic DE parameters. In the model without potential we found the EOS parameter in different regions of the parameters, giving rise to accelerated expansion. For some restrictions on the parameters, the model presents quintom behavior.

Current observational constraints on holographic dark energy model

We consider the cosmological constraints on the holographic dark energy model by using the data set available from the type Ia supernovae (SNIa), CMB and BAO observations. The constrained parameters are critical to determine the quintessence or quintom character the model. The SNIa and joint SNIa+CMB+BAO analysis give the best-fit results for $β$ with priors on $Ω_{m0}$ and $ω_0$. Using montecarlo we obtained the best-fit values for $β$, $Ω_{m0}$ and $ω_0$. The statefinder and $Om$ diagnosis have been used to characterize the model over other DE models.

Age problem in holographic dark energy

We study the age problem of the universe with the holographic DE model introduced in [21], and test the model with some known old high redshift objects (OHRO). The parameters of the model have been constrained using the SNIa, CMB and BAO data set. We found that the age of the old quasar APM 08 279+5255 at z = 3.91 can be described by the model.
