Simple solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics for systems with ellipsoidal symmetry

Simple, self-similar, analytic solutions of (1+3)-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamics are presented for ellipsoidally symmetric finite fireballs corresponding to non-central collisions of heavy ions at relativistic bombarding energies. The hydrodynamical solutions are obtained for a new, general family of equations of state with the possibility of describing phase transitions.

Can supercooling explain the HBT puzzle?

Possible hadronization of supercooled QGP, created in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and SPS, is discussed within a Bjorken hydrodynamic model. Such a hadronization is expected to be a very fast shock-like process, what, if hadronization coincides or shortly followed by freeze out, could explain a part of the HBT puzzle, i.e. the flash-like particle emission ($R_{out}/R_{side}\approx 1$). HBT data also show that the expansion time before freeze out is very short ($\sim 6-10 fm/c$). In this work we discuss question of supercooled QGP and the timescale of the reaction.

Effective String Rope Model for the initial stages of Ultra-Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Different approaches to describe initial stages of relativistic heavy ion collisions are discussed qualitatively and quantitatively. An Effective String Rope Model is presented for heavy ion collisions at RHIC energies. Our model takes into account baryon recoil for both target and projectile, arising from the acceleration of partons in an effective field, produced in the collision. The typical field strength (string tension) for RHIC energies is about 5-12 GeV/fm, what allows us to talk about ``string ropes''. The results show that a QGP forms a tilted disk, such that the direction of the largest pressure gradient stays in the reaction plane, but deviates from both the beam and the usual transverse flow directions. The produced initial state can be used as an initial condition for further hydrodynamical calculations. Such initial conditions lead to the creation of third flow component.

Anisotropic flow of strange particles in heavy ion collisions at RHIC energies

Anisotropic flow of K's, anti-K's, and lambdas is studied in heavy ion collisions at SPS and RHIC energies within the microscopic quark-gluon string model. At SPS energy the directed flow of kaons differs considerably at midrapidity from that of antikaons, while at RHIC energy kaon and antikaon flows coincide. The change is attributed to formation of dense meson-dominated matter at RHIC, where the differences in interaction cross-sections of hadrons become unimportant. The directed flows of strange particles, $v_1^{K,\bar{K}, Λ}(y)$, have universal negative slope at $|y| \leq 2$ at RHIC. The elliptic flow of strange hadrons is developed at midrapidity at times 3<t<10 fm/c. It increases almost linearly with rising p_t and stops to rise at p_t < 1.5 GeV/c reaching the same saturation value $v_2 ^{K,Λ}(p_t) \approx 10%$ in accord with experimental results.

Statistical Hadronization of Supercooled Quark-Gluon Plasma

The fast simultaneous hadronization and chemical freeze out of supercooled quark-gluon plasma, created in relativistic heavy ion collisions, leads to the re-heating of the expanding matter and to the change in a collective flow profile. We use the assumption of statistical nature of the hadronization process, and study quantitatively the freeze out in the framework of hydrodynamical Bjorken model with different quark-gluon plasma equations of state.

Initial conditions for RHIC collisions

An Effective String Rope Model (ESRM) for heavy ion collisions at RHIC energies is presented. Our model takes into account baryon recoil for both target and projectile, arising from the acceleration of partons in an effective field, produced in the collision. The typical field strength (string tension) for RHIC energies is about $5-12 GeV/fm$, what allows us to talk about "string ropes''. Now we describe an "expanding final streaks" scenario, in contrast to a "non-expanding final streaks" discussed in our works before. The results show that a QGP forms a tilted disk, such that the direction of the largest pressure gradient stays in the reaction plane, but deviates from both the beam and the usual transverse flow directions. The produced initial state can be used as an initial condition for further hydrodynamical calculations. Such initial conditions lead to the creation of a third flow component.

Domain Wall Dynamics of Phase Interfaces

The statics and dynamics of a surface separating two phases of a relativistic quantum field theory at or near the critical temperature typically make use of a free energy as a functional of an order parameter. This free energy functional also affords an economical description of states away from equilibrium. The similarities and differences between using a scalar field as the order parameter versus the energy density are examined, and a peculiarity is noted. We also point out several conceptual errors in the literature dealing with the dynamical prefactor in the nucleation rate.

Multi Module Model for Ultra-Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

The Multi Module Model for Ultra-Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at RHIC and LHC energies is presented. It uses the Effective String Rope Model for the calculation of the initial stages of the reaction; the output of this model is used as the initial state for the subsequent one-fluid calculations. It is shown that such an initial state leads to the creation of the third flow component. The hydrodynamical evolution of the energy density distribution is also presented.

The initial state of ultra-relativistic heavy ion collision

A model for energy, pressure and flow velocity distributions at the beginning of ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions is presented, which can be used as an initial condition for hydrodynamic calculations. Our model takes into account baryon recoil for both target and projectile, arising from the acceleration of partons in an effective field, produced in the collision. The typical field strength (string tension) for RHIC energies is about 5-12 GeV/fm, what allows us to talk about "string ropes". The results show that a QGP forms a tilted disk, such that the direction of the largest pressure gradient stays in the reaction plane, but deviates from both the beam and the usual transverse flow directions. Such initial conditions may lead to the creation of "antiflow" or "third flow component".

The source of the "third flow component"

A model for energy, pressure and flow velocity distributions at the beginning of relativistic heavy ion collisions has been developed to be used as initial condition for hydrodynamical calculations. The results show that at the early stages QGP forms a tilted disk, such that the direction of the largest pressure gradient stays in the reaction plane, but deviates from both the beam and the usual transverse flow directions. Such initial conditions may lead to the creation of the "antiflow" or the "third flow component".

Freeze-out in hydrodynamical models in relativistic heavy ion collisions

Freeze-out of particles across 3-dimensional space-time hypersurface with space-like normal is discussed in a simple kinetic model. The final momentum distribution of emitted particles shows a non-exponential transverse momentum spectrum, which is in quantitative agreement with recently measured SPS pion and $h^-$ spectra.

Third flow component as QGP signal

A review of earlier fluid dynamical calculations with QGP show a softening of the directed flow while with hadronic matter this effect is absent. The effect shows up in the reaction plane as enhanced emission which is orthogonal to the directed flow. Thus, it is not shadowed by the deflected projectile and target. As both of these flow components are in the reaction plane these form an enhanced 'elliptic flow' pattern. Recent experimental data at 11 AGeV and above show the same softening, hinting at QGP formation.

Large $p_t$ enhancement from freeze out

Freeze out of particles across three dimensional space-time hypersurface is discussed in a simple kinetic model. The final momentum distribution of emitted particles, for freeze out surfaces with space-like normal, shows a non-exponential transverse momentum spectrum. The slope parameter of the $p_t$ distribution increases with increasing $p_t$, in agreement with recently measured SPS pion and $h^-$ spectra.

Kinetic freeze out

Freeze out of particles across a space-time hypersurface is discussed in kinetic models. The calculation of final momentum distribution of emitted particles is described for freeze out surfaces, with spacelike normals. The resulting non-equilibrium distribution does not resemble, the previously proposed, cut Juttner distribution, and shows non-exponential p_t-spectra similar to the ones observed in experiments.

Freeze out in hydrodynamical models

We study the effects of strict conservation laws and the problem of negative contributions to final momentum distribution during the freeze out through 3-dimensional hypersurfaces with space-like normal. We study some suggested solutions for this problem, and demonstrate it on one example.

Non-ideal Particle Distributions from Kinetic Freeze Out Models

In fluid dynamical models the freeze out of particles across a three dimensional space-time hypersurface is discussed. The calculation of final momentum distribution of emitted particles is described for freeze out surfaces, with both space-like and time-like normals, taking into account conservation laws across the freeze out discontinuity.
