`Interpolating' differential reductions of multidimensional integrable hierarchies

We transfer the scheme of constructing differential reductions, developed recently for the case of the Manakov-Santini hierarchy, to the general multidimensional case. We consider in more detail the four-dimensional case, connected with the second heavenly equation and its generalization proposed by Dunajski. We give a characterization of differential reductions in terms of the Lax-Sato equations as well as in the framework of the dressing method based on nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert problem.

Non-Hamiltonian generalizations of the dispersionless 2DTL hierarchy

We consider two-component integrable generalizations of the dispersionless 2DTL hierarchy connected with non-Hamiltonian vector fields, similar to the Manakov-Santini hierarchy generalizing the dKP hierarchy. They form a one-parametric family connected by hodograph type transformations. Generating equations and Lax-Sato equations are introduced, a dressing scheme based on the vector nonlinear Riemann problem is formulated. The simplest two-component generalization of the dispersionless 2DTL equation is derived, its differential reduction analogous to the Dunajski interpolating system is presented. A symmetric two-component generalization of the dispersionless elliptic 2DTL equation is also constructed.

On a class of reductions of Manakov-Santini hierarchy connected with the interpolating system

Using Lax-Sato formulation of Manakov-Santini hierarchy, we introduce a class of reductions, such that zero order reduction of this class corresponds to dKP hierarchy, and the first order reduction gives the hierarchy associated with the interpolating system introduced by Dunajski. We present Lax-Sato form of reduced hierarchy for the interpolating system and also for the reduction of arbitrary order. Similar to dKP hierarchy, Lax-Sato equations for $L$ (Lax fuction) due to the reduction split from Lax-Sato equations for $M$ (Orlov function), and the reduced hierarchy for arbitrary order of reduction is defined by Lax-Sato equations for $L$ only. Characterization of the class of reductions in terms of the dressing data is given. We also consider a waterbag reduction of the interpolating system hierarchy, which defines (1+1)-dimensional systems of hydrodynamic type.

Generalized dKP: Manakov-Santini hierarchy and its waterbag reduction

We study Manakov-Santini equation, starting from Lax-Sato form of associated hierarchy. The waterbag reduction for Manakov-Santini hierarchy is introduced. Equations of reduced hierarchy are derived. We construct new coordinates transforming non-hydrodynamic evolution of waterbag reduction to non-homogeneous Riemann invariants form of hydrodynamic type.

Dunajski generalization of the second heavenly equation: dressing method and the hierarchy

Dunajski generalization of the second heavenly equation is studied. A dressing scheme applicable to Dunajski equation is developed, an example of constructing solutions in terms of implicit functions is considered. Dunajski equation hierarchy is described, its Lax-Sato form is presented. Dunajsky equation hierarchy is characterized by conservation of three-dimensional volume form, in which a spectral variable is taken into account.

On the dressing method for Dunajski anti-self-duality equation

A dressing scheme applicable to Dunajski equation is developed. Simple example of constructing solutions in terms of implicit functions is considered. Dunajski equation hierarchy is described, its Lax-Sato form is presented. Dunajsky equation hierarchy is characterised by conservation of three-dimensional volume form, in which a spectral variable is taken into account. Some reductions of Dunajsky equation hierarchy, including waterbag-type reduction, are studied.

On the heavenly equation hierarchy and its reductions

Second heavenly equation hierarchy is considered using the framework of hyper-Kähler hierarchy developed by Takasaki. Generating equations for the hierarchy are introduced, they are used to construct generating equations for reduced hierarchies. General $N$-reductions, logarithmic reduction and rational reduction for one of the Lax-Sato functions are discussed. It is demonstrated that rational reduction is equivalent to the symmetry constraint.

On the dbar-dressing method applicable to heavenly equation

The $\dbar$-dressing scheme based on local nonlinear vector $\dbar$-problem is developed. It is applicable to multidimensional nonlinear equations for vector fields, and, after Hamiltonian reduction, to heavenly equation. Hamiltonian reduction is described explicitely in terms of the $\dbar$-data. An analogue of Hirota bilinear identity for heavenly equation hierarchy is introduced, $τ$-function for the hierarchy is defined. Addition formulae (generating equations) for the $τ$-function are found. It is demonstrated that $τ$-function for heavenly equation hierarchy is given by the action for $\dbar$-problem evaluated on the solution of this problem.

On dispersionless BKP hierarchy and its reductions

Integrable dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy of B type is considered. Addition formula for the $τ$-function and conformally invariant equations for the dispersionless BKP (dBKP) hierarchy are derived. Symmetry constraints for the dBKP hierarchy are studied.

Symmetry constraints for dispersionless integrable equations and systems of hydrodynamic type

Symmetry constraints for (2+1)-dimensional dispersionless integrable equations are considered. It is demonstrated that they naturally lead to systems of hydrodynamic type which arise within the reduction method. One also easily obtaines an associated complex curve (Sato function) and corresponding generating equations. Dispersionless KP and 2DTL hierarchy are considered as illustrative examples.

Nonlinear Beltrami equation and tau-function for dispersionless hierarchies

It is proved that the action for nonlinear Beltrami equation (quasiclassical dbar-problem) evaluated on its solution gives a tau-function for dispersionless KP hierarchy. Infinitesimal transformations of tau-function corresponding to variations of dbar-data are found. Determinant equations for the function generating these transformations are derived. They represent a dispersionless analogue of singular manifold (Schwarzian) KP equations. Dispersionless 2DTL hierarchy is also considered.

Projective differential geometry of higher reductions of the two-dimensional Dirac equation

We investigate reductions of the two-dimensional Dirac equation imposed by the requirement of the existence of a differential operator $D_n$ of order $n$ mapping its eigenfunctions to adjoint eigenfunctions. For first order operators these reductions (and multi-component analogs thereof) lead to the Lame equations descriptive of orthogonal coordinate systems. Our main observation is that $n$-th order reductions coincide with the projective-geometric `Gauss-Codazzi' equations governing special classes of line congruences in the projective space $P^{2n-1}$, which is the projectivised kernel of $D_n$. In the second order case this leads to the theory of $W$-congruences in $P^3$ which belong to a linear complex, while the third order case corresponds to isotropic congruences in $P^5$. Higher reductions are compatible with odd-order flows of the Davey-Stewartson hierarchy. All these flows preserve the kernel $D_n$, thus defining nontrivial geometric evolutions of line congruences. Multi-component generalizations are also discussed. The correspondence between geometric picture and the theory of integrable systems is established; the definition of the class of reductions and all geometric objects in terms of the multicomponent KP hierarchy is presented. Generating forms for reductions of arbitrary order are constructed.

Generalized KP hierarchy: Möbius Symmetry, Symmetry Constraints and Calogero-Moser System

Analytic-bilinear approach is used to study continuous and discrete non-isospectral symmetries of the generalized KP hierarchy. It is shown that Möbius symmetry transformation for the singular manifold equation leads to continuous or discrete non-isospectral symmetry of the basic (scalar or multicomponent KP) hierarchy connected with binary Bäcklund transformation. A more general class of multicomponent Möbius-type symmetries is studied. It is demonstrated that symmetry constraints of KP hierarchy defined using multicomponent Möbius-type symmetries give rise to Calogero-Moser system.

Möbius invariant integrable lattice equations associated with KP and 2DTL hierarchies

Integrable lattice equations arising in the context of singular manifold equations for scalar, multicomponent KP hierarchies and 2D Toda lattice hierarchy are considered. These equation generate the corresponding continuous hierarchy of singular manifold equations, its Bäcklund transformations and different forms of superposition principles. They possess rather special form of compatibility representation. The distinctive feature of these equations is invariance under the action of Möbius transformation. Geometric interpretation of these discrete equations is given.

Analytic-bilinear approach to integrable hierarchies. II. Multicomponent KP and 2D Toda lattice hierarchies

Analytic-bilinear approach for construction and study of integrable hierarchies is discussed. Generalized multicomponent KP and 2D Toda lattice hierarchies are considered. This approach allows to represent generalized hierarchies of integrable equations in a condensed form of finite functional equations. Generalized hierarchy incorporates basic hierarchy, modified hierarchy, singularity manifold equation hierarchy and corresponding linear problems. Different levels of generalized hierarchy are connected via invariants of Combescure symmetry transformation. Resolution of functional equations also leads to the $τ$-function and addition formulae to it.

Analytic-bilinear approach to integrable hierarchies. I.Generalized KP hierarchy

Analytic-bilinear approach for construction and study of integrable hierarchies, in particular, the KP hierarchy is discussed. It is based on the generalized Hirota identity. This approach allows to represent generalized hierarchies of integrable equations in a condensed form of finite functional equations. Resolution of these functional equations leads to the $τ$-function and addition formulae to it. General discrete transformations of the $τ$-function are presented in the determinant form. Closed one-form and other formulae also arise naturally within the approach proposed. Generalized KP hierarchy written in terms of different invariants of Combescure symmetry transformations coincides with the usual KP hierarchy and the mKP hierarchy.
