Gap probabilities for the Bures-Hall Ensemble and the Cauchy-Laguerre Two-Matrix Model

The Bures metric and the associated Bures-Hall measure is arguably the best choice for studying the spectrum of the quantum mechanical density matrix with no apriori knowledge of the system. We investigate the probability of a gap in the spectrum of this model, either at the bottom $ [0,s) $ or at the top $ (s,1] $, utilising the connection of this Pfaffian point-process with the allied problem in the determinantal point-process of the two-dimensional Cauchy-Laguerre bi-orthogonal polynomial system, now deformed with two variables $s,t$. To this end we develop new general results about Cauchy bi-orthogonal polynomial system for a more general class of weights than the Laguerre densities: in particular a new Christoffel-Darboux formula, reproducing kernels and differential equations for the polynomials and their associated functions. This system is most simply expressed as rank-3 matrix variables and possesses an associated cubic bilinear form. Furthermore under specialisation to truncated Laguerre type densities for the weight, of direct relevance to the Cauchy-Laguerre system, we construct a closed system of constrained, nonlinear differential equations in two deformation variables $s,t$, and observe that the recurrence, spectral and deformation derivative structures form a compatible and integrable triplet of Lax equations.

Influence of Micro-turbulence on Neoclassical Tearing Mode Onset

Direct evidence of micro-turbulence effect on the onset of neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) is reported for the first time in this letter. A puzzling positive correlation between critical width of seed island of NTM and normalized plasma pressure beta_p is first observed employing a novel method for clearly separating the processes of seed island and the onset of NTM in the EAST tokamak. Different from the methods developed before, the width of the seed island is well controlled by slowly ramping up the current in resonant magnetic perturbation coils. It is revealed that the positive correlation is mainly attributed to the enhancement of perpendicular transport by micro-turbulence, which overcomes the destabilizing effect of beta_p on the onset of NTM. Reduced magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) modeling well reproduced the two states of nonlinear bifurcations observed in this experiment by including the finite transport effect. This result provides a new route for understanding multi-scale interaction in plasma physics.

Measurement of Absolute Single and Double Electron Capture Cross Sections for O6+ Ions Collision with CO2, CH4, H2 and N2

The absolute electron capture cross sections for single and double charge exchanges between the highly charged ions O6+ and CO2, CH4, H2, N2, the dominant collision processes in the solar wind, have been measured in the energy from 7 keV*q (2.63 keV/u) to 52 keV*q (19.5 keV/u). These measurements were carried out in the new experimental instrument set up at Fudan University, and the error of cross sections for single and double charge exchanges at the 1σ confidence level are about 11% and 16%, respectively. Limited agreement is achieved with single electron capture results calculated by the classical over-barrier model. These cross sections data are useful for simulation ion-neutral processes in astrophysical environments and to improve the present theoretical model of fundamental atomic processes.

Theoretical Study of Quantum Scattering Processes for Diatomic Hydrogen $(^{2}S)$ and Oxygen $(^{3}P)$ Complex

We present a quantum mechanical study of the diatomic hydrogen $H(^{2}S)$ and oxygen $O(^{3}P)$ collision and energy transfer for its four molecular symmetry $(X^{2}Π, ^{2}Σ^{-}, ^{4}Π, ^{4}Σ^{-})$, which is important for the investigation of many processes of astrophysical and chemical interests including the one on molecular cooling, trapping or Bose-Einstein condensation. We compute the rovibrational spectra for the $(X^{2}Π)$ state and the resulting bound states are in an excellent agreement with experimental data for the energy range lower than the dissociation threshold. We calculate the phase shifts of its partial-waves, the total cross section, and the differential cross section. They are all well-structured because of the shape of its potential curve. We do the similar studies for the other three dissociative states $(^{2}Σ^{-}, ^{4}Π, ^{4}Σ^{-})$. Finally, we have also decided the thermal rate coefficients for the hydrogen and oxygen collision for its four individual states.
