Nonconvex quasi-variational inequalities: stability analysis and application to numerical optimization

We consider a parametric quasi-variational inequality (QVI) without any convexity assumption. Using the concept of \emph{optimal value function}, we transform the problem into that of solving a nonsmooth system of inequalities. Based on this reformulation, new coderivative estimates as well as robust stability conditions for the optimal solution map of this QVI are developed. Also, for an optimization problem with QVI constraint, necessary optimality conditions are constructed and subsequently, a tailored semismooth Newton-type method is designed, implemented, and tested on a wide range of optimization examples from the literature. In addition to the fact that our approach does not require convexity, its coderivative and stability analysis do not involve second order derivatives, and subsequently, the proposed Newton scheme does not need third order derivatives, as it is the case for some previous works in the literature.

Duality theory for optimistic bilevel optimization

In this paper, we exploit the so-called value function reformulation of the bilevel optimization problem to develop duality results for the problem. Our approach builds on Fenchel-Lagrange-type duality to establish suitable results for the bilevel optimization problem. First, we overview some standard duality results to show that they are not applicable to our problem. Secondly, via the concept of partial calmness, we establish weak and strong duality results. In particular, Lagrange, Fenchel-Lagrange, and Toland-Fenchel- Lagrange duality concepts are investigated for this type of problems under some suitable conditions. Thirdly, based on the use of some regularization of our bilevel program, we establish sufficient conditions ensuring strong duality results under a generalized Slater-type condition without convexity assumptions and without the partial calmness condition. Finally, without the Slater condition, a strong duality result is constructed for the bilevel optimization problem with geometric constraint.

Extension of the value function reformulation to multiobjective bilevel optimization

We consider a multiobjective bilevel optimization problem with vector-valued upper- and lower-level objective functions. Such problems have attracted a lot of interest in recent years. However, so far, scalarization has appeared to be the main approach used to deal with the lower-level problem. Here, we utilize the concept of frontier map that extends the notion of optimal value function to our parametric multiobjective lower-level problem. Based on this, we build a tractable constraint qualification that we use to derive necessary optimality conditions for the problem. Subsequently, we show that our resulting necessary optimality conditions represent a natural extension from standard optimistic bilevel programs with scalar objective functions.

Problem of optimal control for bilinear systems with endpoint constraint

In this work, we will investigate the question of optimal control for bilinear systems with constrained endpoint. The optimal control will be characterized through a set of unconstrained minimization problems that approximate the former. Then a class of bilinear systems for which the optimal control can be expressed as a time-varying feedback law will be identified. Finally, applications to parabolic and hyperbolic partial differential equations are provided.
