Tree suspensions and transfer functions for single degree Tur\'an spectra

For integers $1\le \ell<k$, let $\Pi^k_\ell$ denote the single-forbidden $\ell$-degree Tur\'an spectrum of $k$-uniform hypergraphs. We introduce transfer functions for this spectrum: explicit functions $f$ such that, for every $F$, there is another single $k$-graph $F^*$ with $\pi_\ell(F^*)=f(\pi_\ell(F))$. This gives a mechanism for producing new single-forbidden densities while retaining full control of the resulting value. Our transfer functions are realized by a new family of suspension-type operations, called tree suspensions. From these operations we obtain three explicit maps: one acting on $\Pi^k_\ell$ for every $1\le\ell<k$, a second acting when $\ell\ge k/2$, and a third acting in the ordinary Tur\'an case $\ell=1$. The common feature is a robust tree structure which gives the lower bound by a two-part construction and, in the regimes above, admits a matching embedding or Lagrangian upper bound. As a first application, the universal transfer function propagates accumulation points. Using the recent zero-accumulation results for $\ell\ge2$ together with the ordinary Tur\'an accumulation result of Conlon and Sch\"ulke, we prove that $\Pi^k_\ell$ has infinitely many accumulation points for every $k\ge3$ and every $1\le\ell<k$. This recovers, in particular, the known infinitude of accumulation points in the ordinary and codegree spectra. As a second application, combining two independent transfer functions forces algebraic degrees to grow. For every $k\ge3$ and every $\ell\in\{1,\lceil k/2\rceil,\ldots,k-2\}$, the spectrum $\Pi^k_\ell$ contains algebraic numbers of arbitrarily large degree over $\mathbb Q$. Thus the arithmetic complexity previously known for finite forbidden families already occurs in the single-forbidden spectrum, both for ordinary Tur\'an density and for a broad range of degree Tur\'an densities.

Vanishing orders, suspensions and zero degree Tur\'an densities

For integers $1\le \ell<k$, the $\ell$-degree Tur\'an density $\pi_\ell(F)$ measures the minimum $\ell$-degree threshold that forces a copy of a fixed $k$-uniform hypergraph $F$, generalizing both the classical Tur\'an density $\pi_1$ and the codegree Tur\'an density $\pi_{k-1}$. Motivated by Erd\H{o}s' characterization of $k$-graphs with zero Tur\'an density, we study the structural implications of vanishing $\ell$-degree Tur\'an density. Our main result concerns the case $\ell=2$. We prove that, for every $k\ge3$, if a $k$-graph $F$ satisfies $\pi_2(F)=0$, then $F$ admits a $2$-vanishing order, that is, a global vertex ordering under which all edges align canonically with respect to their pairs. This extends to all uniformities a structural phenomenon previously known for $3$-graphs, and gives a higher-degree analogue of the classical fact that $\pi_1(F)=0$ forces $F$ to be $k$-partite. In particular, the absence of a $2$-vanishing order is a structural obstruction to vanishing $2$-degree Tur\'an density. We also establish a suspension principle connecting consecutive degree parameters. Given a $(k-1)$-graph $F$, let $\mathcal{S}_F$ be the $k$-graph obtained by adding an apex vertex $v$ and replacing each edge $e\in E(F)$ with $v\cup e$. We show that, for $2\le \ell<k$, $\pi_{\ell}(\mathcal{S}_F)=0$ if and only if $\pi_{\ell-1}(F)=0$. This provides a bridge between different degree Tur\'an densities and allows vanishing results to be lifted across uniformities and degree parameters. As an application, we prove that except the classical Tur\'an density, all other degree Tur\'an densities accumulate at zero. The proof of our main result combines random geometric building blocks, a design-theoretic gluing scheme, and random sparsification to reconcile positive $2$-degree with local vanishing structure.

Rainbow spanning structures in strongly edge-colored graphs

An edge-colored graph is a graph in which each edge is assigned a color. Such a graph is called strongly edge-colored if each color class forms an induced matching, and called rainbow if all edges receive pairwise distinct colors. In this paper, by establishing a connection with $\mu n$-bounded graphs, we prove that for all sufficiently large integers $n$, every strongly edge-colored graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $\frac{n+1}{2}$ contains a rainbow Hamilton cycle. We also characterize all strongly edge-colored graphs on $n$ vertices with minimum degree exactly $\frac{n}{2}$ that do not contain a rainbow Hamilton cycle. As an application, we determine the optimal minimum degree conditions for the existence of rainbow Hamilton paths and rainbow perfect matchings in strongly edge-colored graphs. Together, these results verify three conjectures concerning strongly edge-colored graphs for sufficiently large $n$.

Induced even cycles in locally sparse graphs

A graph $G$ is $(c,t)$-sparse if for every pair of vertex subsets $A,B\subset V(G)$ with $|A|,|B|\geq t$, $e(A,B)\leq (1-c)|A||B|$. In this paper we prove that for every $c>0$ and integer $\ell$, there exists $C>1$ such that if an $n$-vertex graph $G$ is $(c,t)$-sparse for some $t$, and has at least $C t^{1-1/\ell}n^{1+1/\ell}$ edges, then $G$ contains an induced copy of $C_{2\ell}$. This resolves a conjecture of Fox, Nenadov and Pham.

On $3$-graphs with vanishing codegree Tur\'{a}n density

For a $k$-uniform hypergraph (or simply $k$-graph) $F$, the codegree Tur\'{a}n density $\pi_{\mathrm{co}}(F)$ is the supremum over all $\alpha$ such that there exist arbitrarily large $n$-vertex $F$-free $k$-graphs $H$ in which every $(k-1)$-subset of $V(H)$ is contained in at least $\alpha n$ edges. Recently, it was proved that for every $3$-graph $F$, $\pi_{\mathrm{co}}(F)=0$ implies $\pi_{\therefore}(F)=0$, where $\pi_{\therefore}(F)$ is the uniform Tur\'{a}n density of $F$ and is defined as the supremum over all $d$ such that there are infinitely many $F$-free $k$-graphs $H$ satisfying that any induced linear-size subhypergraph of $H$ has edge density at least $d$. In this paper, we introduce a layered structure for $3$-graphs which allows us to obtain the reverse implication: every layered $3$-graph $F$ with $\pi_{\therefore}(F)=0$ satisfies $\pi_{\mathrm{co}}(F)=0$. Along the way, we answer in the negative a question of Falgas-Ravry, Pikhurko, Vaughan and Volec [J. London Math. Soc., 2023] about whether $\pi_{\therefore}(F)\leq\pi_{\mathrm{co}}(F)$ always holds. In particular, we construct counterexamples $F$ with positive but arbitrarily small $\pi_{\mathrm{co}}(F)$ while having $\pi_{\therefore}(F)\ge 4/27$.

Vanishing codegree Turán density implies vanishing uniform Turán density

For a $k$-uniform hypergraph (or simply $k$-graph) $F$, the codegree Turán density $π_{\mathrm{co}}(F)$ is the infimum over all $α$ such that any $n$-vertex $k$-graph $H$ with every $(k-1)$-subset of $V(H)$ contained in at least $αn$ edges has a copy of $F$. The uniform Turán density $π_{\therefore}(F)$ is the supremum over all $d$ such that there are infinitely many $F$-free $k$-graphs $H$ satisfying that any linear-size subhypergraph of $H$ has edge density at least $d$. Falgas-Ravry, Pikhurko, Vaughan and Volec [J. London Math. Soc., 2023] asked whether for every $3$-graph $F$, $π_{\therefore}(F)\leqπ_{\mathrm{co}}(F)$. We provide a positive answer to this question provided that $π_{\mathrm{co}}(F)=0$. Our proof relies on a random geometric construction and a new formulation of the characterization of $3$-graphs with vanishing uniform Turán density due to Reiher, R{ö}dl and Schacht [J. London Math. Soc., 2018]. Along the way, we answer a question of Falgas-Ravry, Pikhurko, Vaughan and Volec about subhypergraphs with linear minimum codegree in uniformly dense hypergraphs in the negative.

Tiling multipartite hypergraphs in Quasi-random Hypergraphs

Given $k\ge 2$ and two $k$-graphs ($k$-uniform hypergraphs) $F$ and $H$, an \emph{$F$-factor} in $H$ is a set of vertex disjoint copies of $F$ that together covers the vertex set of $H$. Lenz and Mubayi studied the $F$-factor problems in quasi-random $k$-graphs with minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$. In particular, they constructed a sequence of $1/8$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs $H(n)$ with minimum degree $Ω(n^2)$ and minimum codegree $Ω(n)$ but with no $K_{2,2,2}$-factor. We prove that if $p>1/8$ and $F$ is a $3$-partite $3$-graph with $f$ vertices, then for sufficiently large $n$, all $p$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs of order $n$ with minimum codegree $Ω(n)$ and $f\mid n$ have $F$-factors. That is, $1/8$ is the density threshold for ensuring all $3$-partite $3$-graphs $F$-factors in quasi-random $3$-graphs given a minimum codegree condition $Ω(n)$. Moreover, we show that one can not replace the minimum codegree condition by a minimum vertex degree condition. In fact, we find that for any $p\in(0,1)$ and $n\ge n_0$, there exist $p$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs of order $n$ with minimum degree $Ω(n^2)$ having no $K_{2,2,2}$-factor. In particular, we study the optimal density threshold of $F$-factors for each $3$-partite $3$-graph $F$ in quasi-random $3$-graphs given a minimum codegree condition $Ω(n)$.

$F$-factors in Quasi-random Hypergraphs

Given $k\ge 2$ and two $k$-graphs ($k$-uniform hypergraphs) $F$ and $H$, an $F$-factor in $H$ is a set of vertex-disjoint copies of $F$ that together covers the vertex set of $H$. Lenz and Mubayi [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 2016] studied the $F$-factor problem in quasi-random $k$-graphs with minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$. They posed the problem of characterizing the $k$-graphs $F$ such that every sufficiently large quasi-random $k$-graph with constant edge density and minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$ contains an $F$-factor, and in particular, they showed that all linear $k$-graphs satisfy this property. In this paper we prove a general theorem on $F$-factors which reduces the $F$-factor problem of Lenz and Mubayi to a natural sub-problem, that is, the $F$-cover problem. By using this result, we answer the question of Lenz and Mubayi for those $F$ which are $k$-partite $k$-graphs, and for all 3-graphs $F$, separately. Our characterization result on 3-graphs is motivated by the recent work of Reiher, Rödl and Schacht [J. Lond. Math. Soc., 2018] that classifies the 3-graphs with vanishing Turán density in quasi-random $k$-graphs.

Properly colored short cycles in edge-colored graphs

Properly colored cycles in edge-colored graphs are closely related to directed cycles in oriented graphs. As an analogy of the well-known Caccetta-Häggkvist Conjecture, we study the existence of properly colored cycles of bounded length in an edge-colored graph. We first prove that for all integers $s$ and $t$ with $t\geq s\geq2$, every edge-colored graph $G$ with no properly colored $K_{s,t}$ contains a spanning subgraph $H$ which admits an orientation $D$ such that every directed cycle in $D$ is a properly colored cycle in $G$. Using this result, we show that for $r\geq4$, if the Caccetta-Häggkvist Conjecture holds , then every edge-colored graph of order $n$ with minimum color degree at least $n/r+2\sqrt{n}+1$ contains a properly colored cycle of length at most $r$. In addition, we also obtain an asymptotically tight total color degree condition which ensures a properly colored (or rainbow) $K_{s,t}$.
