One-loop central-emission vertex for two gluons in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory

A necessary ingredient for extending the BFKL equation to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy is the one-loop central emission vertex (CEV) for two gluons which are not strongly ordered in rapidity. Here we consider the one-loop six-gluon amplitude in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills (SYM) theory in a central next-to-multi-Regge kinematic (NMRK) limit, we show that its dispersive part factorises in terms of the two-gluon CEV, and we use it to extract the one-loop two-gluon CEV for any helicity configuration within this theory. This is a component of the two-gluon CEV in QCD. Although computed in the NMRK limit, both the colour structure and the kinematic dependence of the two-gluon CEV capture much of the complexity of the six-gluon amplitudes in general kinematics. In fact, the transcendental functions of the latter can be conveniently written in terms of impact factors, trajectories, single-emission CEVs and a remainder, which is a function of the conformally invariant cross ratios which characterise the six-gluon amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM. Finally, as expected, in the MRK limit the two-gluon CEV neatly factorises in terms of two single-emission CEVs.

Folding Amplitudes into Form Factors: An Antipodal Duality

We observe that the three-gluon form factor of the chiral part of the stress-tensor multiplet in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory is dual to the six-gluon MHV amplitude on its parity-preserving surface. Up to a simple variable substitution, the map between these two quantities is given by the antipode operation defined on polylogarithms (as part of their Hopf algebra structure), which acts at symbol level by reversing the order of letters in each term. We provide evidence for this duality through seven loops.

Heptagon Functions and Seven-Gluon Amplitudes in Multi-Regge Kinematics

We compute all $2\to5$ gluon scattering amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory in the multi-Regge limit that is sensitive to the non-trivial ("long") Regge cut. We provide the amplitudes through four loops and to all logarithmic accuracy at leading power, in terms of single-valued multiple polylogarithms of two variables. To obtain these results, we leverage the function-level results for the amplitudes in the Steinmann cluster bootstrap. To high powers in the series expansion in the two variables, our results agree with the recently conjectured all-order central emission vertex used in the Fourier-Mellin representation of amplitudes in multi-Regge kinematics. Our results therefore provide a resummation of the Fourier-Mellin residues into single-valued polylogarithms, and constitute an important cross-check between the bootstrap approach and the all-orders multi-Regge proposal.

Fishnet four-point integrals: integrable representations and thermodynamic limits

We consider four-point integrals arising in the planar limit of the conformal "fishnet" theory in four dimensions. They define a two-parameter family of higher-loop Feynman integrals, which extend the series of ladder integrals and were argued, based on integrability and analyticity, to admit matrix-model-like integral and determinantal representations. In this paper, we prove the equivalence of all these representations using exact summation and integration techniques. We then analyze the large-order behaviour, corresponding to the thermodynamic limit of a large fishnet graph. The saddle-point equations are found to match known two-cut singular equations arising in matrix models, enabling us to obtain a concise parametric expression for the free-energy density in terms of complete elliptic integrals. Interestingly, the latter depends non-trivially on the fishnet aspect ratio and differs from a scaling formula due to Zamolodchikov for large periodic fishnets, suggesting a strong sensitivity to the boundary conditions. We also find an intriguing connection between the saddle-point equation and the equation describing the Frolov-Tseytlin spinning string in $AdS_{3}\times S^{1}$, in a generalized scaling combining the thermodynamic and short-distance limits.

A Three-Point Form Factor Through Five Loops

We bootstrap the three-point form factor of the chiral part of the stress-tensor supermultiplet in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory, obtaining new results at three, four, and five loops. Our construction employs known conditions on the first, second, and final entries of the symbol, combined with new multiple-final-entry conditions, ``extended-Steinmann-like'' conditions, and near-collinear data from the recently-developed form factor operator product expansion. Our results are expected to give the maximally transcendental parts of the $gg\to Hg$ and $H\to ggg$ amplitudes in the heavy-top limit of QCD. At two loops, the extended-Steinmann-like space of functions we describe contains all transcendental functions required for four-point amplitudes with one massive and three massless external legs, and all massless internal lines, including processes such as $gg\to Hg$ and $γ^*\to q\bar{q}g$. We expect the extended-Steinmann-like space to contain these amplitudes at higher loops as well, although not to arbitrarily high loop order. We present evidence that the planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ three-point form factor can be placed in an even smaller space of functions, with no independent $ζ$ values at weights two and three.

Lifting Heptagon Symbols to Functions

Seven-point amplitudes in planar ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory have previously been constructed through four loops using the Steinmann cluster bootstrap, but only at the level of the symbol. We promote these symbols to actual functions, by specifying their first derivatives and boundary conditions on a particular two-dimensional surface. To do this, we impose branch-cut conditions and construct the entire heptagon function space through weight six. We plot the amplitudes on a few lines in the bulk Euclidean region, and explore the properties of the heptagon function space under the coaction associated with multiple polylogarithms.

The Steinmann Cluster Bootstrap for N=4 Super Yang-Mills Amplitudes

We review the bootstrap method for constructing six- and seven-particle amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory, by exploiting their analytic structure. We focus on two recently discovered properties which greatly simplify this construction at symbol and function level, respectively: the extended Steinmann relations, or equivalently cluster adjacency, and the coaction principle. We then demonstrate their power in determining the six-particle amplitude through six and seven loops in the NMHV and MHV sectors respectively, as well as the symbol of the NMHV seven-particle amplitude to four loops.

The Origin of the Six-Gluon Amplitude in Planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM

We study the maximally-helicity-violating (MHV) six-gluon scattering amplitude in planar $\mathcal{N} = 4$ super-Yang-Mills theory at finite coupling when all three cross ratios are small. It exhibits a double logarithmic scaling in the cross ratios, controlled by a handful of "anomalous dimensions" that are functions of the coupling constant alone. Inspired by known seven-loop results at weak coupling and the integrability-based pentagon OPE, we present conjectures for the all-order resummation of these anomalous dimensions. At strong coupling, our predictions agree perfectly with the string theory analysis. Intriguingly, the simplest of these anomalous dimensions coincides with one describing the light-like limit of the octagon, namely the four-point function of large-charge BPS operators.

The Cosmic Galois Group and Extended Steinmann Relations for Planar $\mathcal{N} = 4$ SYM Amplitudes

We describe the minimal space of polylogarithmic functions that is required to express the six-particle amplitude in planar ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory through six and seven loops, in the NMHV and MHV sectors respectively. This space respects a set of extended Steinmann relations that restrict the iterated discontinuity structure of the amplitude, as well as a cosmic Galois coaction principle that constrains the functions and the transcendental numbers that can appear in the amplitude at special kinematic points. To put the amplitude into this space, we must divide it by the BDS-like ansatz and by an additional zeta-valued constant $ρ$. For this normalization, we conjecture that the extended Steinmann relations and the coaction principle hold to all orders in the coupling. We describe an iterative algorithm for constructing the space of hexagon functions that respects both constraints. We highlight further simplifications that begin to occur in this space of functions at weight eight, and distill the implications of imposing the coaction principle to all orders. Finally, we explore the restricted spaces of transcendental functions and constants that appear in special kinematic configurations, which include polylogarithms involving square, cube, fourth and sixth roots of unity.

Six-Gluon Amplitudes in Planar ${\cal N}=4$ Super-Yang-Mills Theory at Six and Seven Loops

We compute the six-particle maximally-helicity-violating (MHV) and next-to-MHV (NMHV) amplitudes in planar maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory through seven loops and six loops, respectively, as an application of the extended Steinmann relations and using the cosmic Galois coaction principle. Starting from a minimal space of functions constructed using these principles, we identify the amplitude by matching its symmetries and predicted behavior in various kinematic limits. Through five loops, the MHV and NMHV amplitudes are uniquely determined using only the multi-Regge and leading collinear limits. Beyond five loops, the MHV amplitude requires additional data from the kinematic expansion around the collinear limit, which we obtain from the Pentagon Operator Product Expansion, and in particular from its single-gluon bound state contribution. We study the MHV amplitude in the self-crossing limit, where its singular terms agree with previous predictions. Analyzing and plotting the amplitudes along various kinematical lines, we continue to find remarkable stability between loop orders.

The Collinear Limit of the Energy-Energy Correlator

The energy-energy-correlator (EEC) observable in $e^+e^-$ annihilation measures the energy deposited in two detectors as a function of the angle between the detectors. The collinear limit, where the angle between the two detectors approaches zero, is of particular interest for describing the substructure of jets produced at hadron colliders as well as in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. We derive a factorization formula for the leading power asymptotic behavior in the collinear limit of a generic quantum field theory, which allows for the resummation of logarithmically enhanced terms to all orders by renormalization group evolution. The relevant anomalous dimensions are expressed in terms of the timelike data of the theory, in particular the moments of the timelike splitting functions, which are known to high perturbative orders. We relate the small angle and back-to-back limits to each other via the total cross section and an integral over intermediate angles. This relation provides us with the initial conditions for quark and gluon jet functions at order $α_s^2$. In QCD and in $\mathcal{N}=1$ super-Yang-Mills theory, we then perform the resummation to next-to-next-to-leading logarithm, improving previous calculations by two perturbative orders. We highlight the important role played by the non-vanishing $β$ function in these theories, which while subdominant for Higgs decays to gluons, dominates the behavior of the EEC in the collinear limit for $e^+e^-$ annihilation, and in $\mathcal{N}=1$ super-Yang-Mills theory. In conformally invariant $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory, reciprocity between timelike and spacelike evolution can be used to express our factorization formula as a power law with exponent equal to the spacelike twist-two spin-three anomalous dimensions, thus providing a connection between timelike and spacelike approaches.

The two-loop five-point amplitude in $\mathcal N=8$ supergravity

We compute the symbol of the two-loop five-point amplitude in $\mathcal N=8$ supergravity. We write an ansatz for the amplitude whose rational prefactors are based on not only 4-dimensional leading singularities, but also $d$-dimensional ones, as the former are insufficient. Our novel $d$-dimensional unitarity-based approach to the systematic construction of an amplitude's rational structures is likely to have broader applications, for example to analogous QCD calculations. We fix parameters in the ansatz by performing numerical integration-by-parts reduction of the known integrand. We find that the two-loop five-point $\mathcal N=8$ supergravity amplitude is uniformly transcendental. We then verify the soft and collinear limits of the amplitude. There is considerable similarity with the corresponding amplitude for $\mathcal N=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory: all the rational prefactors are double copies of the Yang-Mills ones and the transcendental functions overlap to a large degree. As a byproduct, we find new relations between color-ordered loop amplitudes in $\mathcal N=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory.

The Double Pentaladder Integral to All Orders

We compute dual-conformally invariant ladder integrals that are capped off by pentagons at each end of the ladder. Such integrals appear in six-point amplitudes in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory. We provide exact, finite-coupling formulas for the basic double pentaladder integrals as a single Mellin integral over hypergeometric functions. For particular choices of the dual conformal cross ratios, we can evaluate the integral at weak coupling to high loop orders in terms of multiple polylogarithms. We argue that the integrals are exponentially suppressed at strong coupling. We describe the space of functions that contains all such double pentaladder integrals and their derivatives, or coproducts. This space, a prototype for the space of Steinmann hexagon functions, has a simple algebraic structure, which we elucidate by considering a particular discontinuity of the functions that localizes the Mellin integral and collapses the relevant symbol alphabet. This function space is endowed with a coaction, both perturbatively and at finite coupling, which mixes the independent solutions of the hypergeometric differential equation and constructively realizes a coaction principle of the type believed to hold in the full Steinmann hexagon function space.

Analytic calculation of Energy-Energy Correlation in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation at NLO

We present the first fully analytic calculation of the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) event shape observable Energy-Energy Correlation in electron-positron annihilation at Next-To-Leading Order (NLO). This result sheds light on the analytic structure of the event shape observables beyond Leading Order (LO) and serves as a motivation to employ our methods in the investigation of other event shape observables that so far have not been calculated analytically.

The Principle of Maximal Transcendentality and the Four-Loop Collinear Anomalous Dimension

We use the principle of maximal transcendentality and the universal nature of subleading infrared poles to extract the analytic value of the four-loop collinear anomalous dimension in planar ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory from recent QCD results, obtaining $\hat{\cal G}_{0}^{(4)} = - 300 ζ_7 - 256 ζ_2 ζ_5 - 384 ζ_3 ζ_4$. This value agrees with a previous numerical result to within 0.2 percent. It also provides the Regge trajectory, threshold soft anomalous dimension and rapidity anomalous dimension through four loops.

The Energy-Energy Correlation at Next-to-Leading Order in QCD, Analytically

The energy-energy correlation (EEC) between two detectors in $e^+e^-$ annihilation was computed analytically at leading order in QCD almost 40 years ago, and numerically at next-to-leading order (NLO) starting in the 1980s. We present the first analytical result for the EEC at NLO, which is remarkably simple, and facilitates analytical study of the perturbative structure of the EEC. We provide the expansion of EEC in the collinear and back-to-back regions through to next-to-leading power, information which should aid resummation in these regions.

Gluing Ladders into Fishnets

We use integrability at weak coupling to compute fishnet diagrams for four-point correlation functions in planar $ϕ^4$ theory. The results are always multi-linear combinations of ladder integrals, which are in turn built out of classical polylogarithms. The Steinmann relations provide a powerful constraint on such linear combinations, leading to a natural conjecture for any fishnet diagram as the determinant of a matrix of ladder integrals.
