The Uniform Mordell-Lang Conjecture

The Mordell--Lang conjecture for abelian varieties states that the intersection of an algebraic subvariety $X$ with a subgroup of finite rank is contained in a finite union of cosets contained in $X$. In this article, we prove a uniform version of this conjecture, meaning that that the number of cosets necessary does not depend on the ambient abelian variety. To achieve this, we prove a general gap principle on algebraic points that extends the gap principle for curves embedded into their Jacobians, previously obtained by Dimitrov--Gao--Habegger and Kühne. Our new gap principle also implies the full uniform Bogomolov conjecture in abelian varieties.

Equidistribution in Families of Abelian Varieties and Uniformity

Using equidistribution techniques from Arakelov theory as well as recent results obtained by Dimitrov, Gao, and Habegger, we deduce uniform results on the Manin-Mumford and the Bogomolov conjecture. For each given integer $g \geq 2$, we prove that the number of torsion points lying on a smooth complex algebraic curve of genus $g$ embedded into its Jacobian is uniformly bounded. Complementing recent works of Dimitrov, Gao, and Habegger, we obtain a rather uniform version of the Mordell conjecture as well. In particular, the number of rational points on a smooth algebraic curve defined over a number field can be bounded solely in terms of its genus and the Mordell-Weil rank of its Jacobian.

The Relative Bogomolov Conjecture for Fibered Products of Elliptic Curves

We deduce an analogue of the Bogomolov conjecture for non-degenerate subvarieties in fibered products of families of elliptic curves from the author's recent theorem on equidistribution in families of abelian varieties. This generalizes results of DeMarco and Mavraki and improves certain results of Manin-Mumford type proven by Masser and Zannier to results of Bogomolov type, yielding the first results of this type for subvarieties of relative dimension $>1$ in families of abelian varieties with trivial trace.

Unlikely Intersections of Curves with Algebraic Subgroups in Semiabelian Varieties

Let $G$ be a semiabelian variety and $C$ a curve in $G$ that is not contained in a proper algebraic subgroup of $G$. In this situation, conjectures of Pink and Zilber imply that there are at most finitely many points contained in the so-called unlikely intersections of $C$ with subgroups of codimension at least $2$. In this note, we establish this assertion for general semiabelian varieties over $\bar{\mathbb{Q}}$. This extends results of Maurin and Bombieri, Habegger, Masser, and Zannier in the toric case as well as Habegger and Pila in the abelian case.

Points of Small Height on Semiabelian Varieties

The Equidistribution Conjecture is proved for general semiabelian varieties over number fields. Previously, this conjecture was only known in the special case of almost split semiabelian varieties through work of Chambert-Loir. The general case has remained intractable so far because the height of a semiabelian variety is negative unless it is almost split. In fact, this places the conjecture outside the scope of Yuan's equidistribution theorem on algebraic dynamical systems. To overcome this, an asymptotic adaption of the equidistribution technique invented by Szpiro, Ullmo, and Zhang is used here. It also allows a new proof of the Bogomolov Conjecture and hence a self-contained proof of the Strong Equidistribution Conjecture in the same general setting.

The Bounded Height Conjecture for Semiabelian Varieties

The Bounded Height Conjecture of Bombieri, Masser, and Zannier states that for any sufficiently generic algebraic subvariety of a semiabelian $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}$-variety $G$ there is an upper bound on the Weil height of the points contained in its intersection with the union of all algebraic subgroups having (at most) complementary dimension in $G$. This conjecture has been shown by Habegger in the case where $G$ is either a multiplicative torus or an abelian variety. However, there are new obstructions to his approach if $G$ is a general semiabelian variety. In particular, the lack of Poincaré reducibility means that quotients of a given semiabelian variety are intricate to describe. To overcome this, we study directly certain families of line bundles on $G$. This allows us to demonstrate the conjecture for general semiabelian varieties.

Linear Equations in Singular Moduli

We establish an effective version of the André-Oort conjecture for linear subspaces of $Y(1)^n_{\mathbb{C}} \approx \mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{C}}^n$. Apart from the trivial examples provided by weakly special subvarieties, this yields the first algebraic subvarieties in a Shimura variety of dimension $> 1$ whose CM-points can be (theoretically) determined.

Intersections of Class Fields

Using class field theory, we prove a restriction on the intersection of the maximal abelian extensions associated with different number fields. This restriction is then used to improve a result of Rosen and Silverman about the linear independence of Heegner points. In addition, it yields effective restrictions for the special points lying on an algebraic subvariety in a product of modular curves. The latter application is related to the André-Oort conjecture.
