Joint law of the hitting time, overshoot and undershoot for a Lévy process

Let be $(X_t, t\geq 0)$ be a Lévy process which is the sum of a Brownian motion with drift and a compound Poisson process. We consider the first passage time $τ_x$ at a fixed level $x>0$ by $(X_t, t\geq 0)$ and $K_x:= X_{τ_x}-x$ the overshoot and $L_x:= x-X_{τ_x^-}$ the undershoot. We first study the regularity of the density of the first passage time. Secondly, we calculate the joint law of $(τ_x, K_x, L_x).$

Higher order expansions via Stein method

This paper is a sequel of \cite{CD:2012}. We show how to establish a functional Edgeworth expansion of any order thanks to the Stein method. We apply the procedure to the Brownian approximation of compensated Poisson process and to the linear interpolation of the Brownian motion. It is then apparent that these two expansions are of rather different form.

Stein's method for Brownian approximations

Motivated by a theorem of Barbour, we revisit some of the classical limit theorems in probability from the viewpoint of the Stein method. We setup the framework to bound Wasserstein distances between some distributions on infinite dimensional spaces. We show that the convergence rate for the Poisson approximation of the Brownian motion is as expected proportional to $λ^{-1/2}$ where $λ$ is the intensity of the Poisson process. We also exhibit the speed of convergence for the Donsker Theorem and for the linear interpolation of the Brownian motion. By iterating the procedure, we give Edgeworth expansions with precise error bounds.

Sharp large deviations for the non-stationary Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process

For the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, the asymptotic behavior of the maximum likelihood estimator of the drift parameter is totally different in the stable, unstable, and explosive cases. Notwithstanding of this trichotomy, we investigate sharp large deviation principles for this estimator in the three situations. In the explosive case, we exhibit a very unusual rate function with a shaped flat valley and an abrupt discontinuity point at its minimum.

A Markov model for the spread of Hepatitis C

We propose a Markov model for the spread of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) among drug users who use injections. We then proceed to an asymptotic analysis (large initial population) and show that the Markov process is close to the solution of a non linear autonomous differential system. We prove both a law of large numbers and functional central limit theorem to precise the speed of convergence towards the limiting system. The deterministic system itself converges, as time goes to infinity, to an equilibrium point. This corroborates the empirical observations about the prevalence of HCV.

Good rough path sequences and applications to anticipating stochastic calculus

We consider anticipative Stratonovich stochastic differential equations driven by some stochastic process lifted to a rough path. Neither adaptedness of initial point and vector fields nor commuting conditions between vector field is assumed. Under a simple condition on the stochastic process, we show that the unique solution of the above SDE understood in the rough path sense is actually a Stratonovich solution. We then show that this condition is satisfied by the Brownian motion. As application, we obtain rather flexible results such as support theorems, large deviation principles and Wong--Zakai approximations for SDEs driven by Brownian motion along anticipating vectorfields. In particular, this unifies many results on anticipative SDEs.

Good Rough Path Sequences and Applications to Anticipating & Fractional Stochastic Calculus

We consider anticipative Stratonovich stochastic differential equations driven by some stochastic process (not necessarily a semi-martingale). No adaptedness of initial point or vector fields is assumed. Under a simple condition on the stochastic process, we show that the unique solution of the above SDE understood in the rough path sense is actually a Stratonovich solution. This condition is satisfied by the Brownian motion and the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/4. As application, we obtain rather flexible results such as support theorems, large deviation principles and Wong-Zakai approximations for SDEs driven by fractional Brownian Motion along anticipating vectorfields. In particular, this unifies many results on anticipative SDEs.

Fractional Brownian motion and the Markov Property

Fractional Brownian motion belongs to a class of long memory Gaussian processes that can be represented as linear functionals of an infinite dimensional Markov process. This representation leads naturally to: - An efficient algorithm to approximate the process. - An infinite dimensional ergodic theorem which applies to functionals of the type $integral_0^t phi(V_h(s)) ds $ where $V_h(s)=integral_0^t h(t-u) dB_u$ and $B$ is a standard Brownian motion.
