A general halfspace theorem for constant mean curvature surfaces

In this paper, we prove a general halfspace theorem for constant mean curvature surfaces. Under certain hypotheses, we prove that, in an ambient space M^3, any constant mean curvature H_0 surface on one side of a constant mean curvature H_0 surface Σ_0 is an equidistant surface to Σ_0. The main hypotheses of the theorem are that Σ_0 is parabolic and the mean curvature of the equidistant surfaces to Σ_0 evolves in a certain way.

Optimal length estimates for stable CMC surfaces in 3-space forms

In this paper, we study stable constant mean curvature $H$ surfaces in $\R^3$. We prove that, in such a surface, the distance from a point to the boundary is less that $π/(2H)$. This upper-bound is optimal and is extended to stable constant mean curvature surfaces in space forms.

Characterizations of Lojasiewicz inequalities and applications

The classical Lojasiewicz inequality and its extensions for partial differential equation problems (Simon) and to o-minimal structures (Kurdyka) have a considerable impact on the analysis of gradient-like methods and related problems: minimization methods, complexity theory, asymptotic analysis of dissipative partial differential equations, tame geometry. This paper provides alternative characterizations of this type of inequalities for nonsmooth lower semicontinuous functions defined on a metric or a real Hilbert space. In a metric context, we show that a generalized form of the Lojasiewicz inequality (hereby called the Kurdyka-Lojasiewicz inequality) relates to metric regularity and to the Lipschitz continuity of the sublevel mapping, yielding applications to discrete methods (strong convergence of the proximal algorithm). In a Hilbert setting we further establish that asymptotic properties of the semiflow generated by $-\partial f$ are strongly linked to this inequality. This is done by introducing the notion of a piecewise subgradient curve: such curves have uniformly bounded lengths if and only if the Kurdyka-Lojasiewicz inequality is satisfied. Further characterizations in terms of talweg lines -a concept linked to the location of the less steepest points at the level sets of $f$- and integrability conditions are given. In the convex case these results are significantly reinforced, allowing in particular to establish the asymptotic equivalence of discrete gradient methods and continuous gradient curves. On the other hand, a counterexample of a convex C^2 function in in the plane is constructed to illustrate the fact that, contrary to our intuition, and unless a specific growth condition is satisfied, convex functions may fail to fulfill the Kurdyka-Lojasiewicz inequality.

Saddle towers with infinitely many ends

We prove the existence of nonperiodic, properly embedded minimal surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^2\times\mathbb{S}^1$ with genus zero, infinitely many ends and one limit end (in particular, they have infinite total curvature).

Adding one handle to half-plane layers

In this paper, we build properly embedded singly periodic minimal surfaces which have infinite total curvature in the quotient by the period. These surfaces are constructed by adding a handle to the toroidal half-plane layers defined by H. Karcher. The technics that use is to solve a Jenkins-Serrin problem over a strip domain and to consider the conjugate minimal surface to the graph.

A Fixed-Point Type for Octave

This paper announces the availability of a fixed point toolbox for the Matlab compatible software package Octave. This toolbox is released under the GNU Public License, and can be used to model the losses in algorithms implemented in hardware. Furthermore, this paper presents as an example of the use of this toolbox, the effects of a fixed point implementation on the precision of an OFDM modulator.

Lignes de divergence pour les graphes a courbure moyenne constante

This paper is devoted to the study of convergence of sequences of solutions to the constant mean curvature H equation. The convergence domain is defined. The main Theorem characterizes the complement of this convergence domain: it shows that circle arcs of curvature 2H compose this complement. We then give results which allow us to use this theorem.

Some uniqueness results for constant mean curvature graphs

The aim of this paper is to give two uniqueness results for the Dirichlet problem associated to the constant mean curvature equation. We study constant mean curvature graphs over strips of R^2. The proofs are based on height estimates and the study of the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to the Dirichlet problem.

The Plateau problem at infinity for horizontal ends and genus 1

In this paper, we study Alexandrov-embedded r-noids with genus 1 and horizontal ends. Such minimal surfaces are of two types and we build several examples of the first one. We prove that if a polygon bounds an immersed polygonal disk, it is the flux polygon of an r-noid with genus 1 of the first type. We also study the case of polygons which are invariant under a rotation. The construction of these surfaces is based on the resolution of the Dirichlet problem for the minimal surface equation on an unbounded domain.

The Dirichlet problem for minimal surfaces equation and Plateau problem at infinity

In this paper, we shall study the Dirichlet problem for the minimal surfaces equation. We prove some results about the boundary behaviour of a solution of this problem. We describe the behaviour of a non-converging sequence of solutions in term of lines of divergence in the domain. Using this second result, we build some solutions of the Dirichlet problem on unbounded domain. We then give a new proof of the result of C. Cos\'ın and A. Ros concerning the Plateau problem at infinity for horizontal ends.
