High-Rate Quasi-Dyadic Quantum LDPC Codes

In this work, we propose a novel design of high-rate Calderbank--Shor--Steane (CSS) quantum low-density parity-check (QLDPC) codes based on quasi-dyadic matrices. The Tanner graphs associated with the two component classical codes used to construct the proposed CSS codes are characterized by a girth of at least $6$. We also derive an exact count of length-$4$ cycles in the quaternary representation of the parity-check matrix. Monte Carlo simulations under code-capacity and phenomenological noise models show that the proposed codes have competitive finite-length logical error rate performance compared with state-of-the-art codes in both these settings.

Low-Complexity Soft-Aided Error-and-Erasure Decoding for Generalized Product Codes

Generalized product codes (GPCs) combine excellent high-rate performance with low-complexity hardware implementations. We propose the refined dynamic reliability score decoder (\acs{RDRSD}), a hard-message-passing iterative error-and-erasure decoder that uses dynamic reliability scores. Its syndrome-domain implementation has complexity comparable to hard-decision \ac{iBDD}. Across various GPCs and decoding configurations, \acs{RDRSD} provides different complexity--performance trade-offs and achieves approximately \SI{1}{dB} coding gain over \ac{iBDD}. For GPCs with component codes of small error-correcting capability, we also analyze the error floor and propose a soft-aided post-processing step that significantly lowers it.

Signal Space-Transformed Expectation Propagation for Symbol Detection in ISI Channels

Iterative message passing detection based on expectation propagation (EP) has demonstrated near-optimum performance in many signal processing and communication scenarios. The method remains feasible even for channel impulse responses (CIRs), where the optimal Bahl-Cocke-Jelinek-Raviv (BCJR) detector is infeasible. However, significant performance degradation occurs for channels with strong inter-symbol interference (ISI), where the initial linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) estimate is inaccurate. We propose an EP-based detector that operates in a transformed signal space. Specifically, instead of the conventional approach that iterates between an LMMSE estimator and a non-linear symbol-wise demapper, the proposed method iterates between a linear channel shortening filter-based estimator and a non-linear BCJR detector with reduced memory compared to the actual channel. Additionally, we propose a deliberate mismatch between the initialized messages and the initialized covariance used in the linear estimator in the first iteration for faster convergence. The proposed approach is evaluated for the well-known Proakis-C ISI channel and for CIRs from a wireless measurement campaign. We demonstrate improvements of up to 6 dB at 2 bits per channel use and an improved performance-complexity trade-off over conventional EP-based detection

Modeling and Mitigation of Equalization-Enhanced Phase Noise

Equalization-enhanced phase noise (EEPN) emerges as a key performance limitation in high symbol-rate coherent transmission systems. In this paper, we highlight recent advances in modeling EEPN and show that the temporal Gaussian noise model reproduces the characteristic burst-like SNR degradation, enabling efficient system simulation.

Ultra-Low-Rate Information Reconciliation: Repetition Coding or Dedicated Codes?

We compare repetition-based ultra-low-rate information reconciliation with dedicated ultra-low-rate codes for CV-QKD. Repetition coding offers a favorable performance-complexity trade-off, incurring only a moderate error-rate penalty while reducing decoding complexity by $2\times$, making it attractive for implementation-constrained systems.

Affine Subcode Ensemble Decoding for Degeneracy-Aware Quantum Error Correction

Quantum low-density parity-check codes are promising candidates for low-overhead fault-tolerant quantum computing, but degeneracy is known to impair the convergence of belief-propagation (BP) decoding of these codes. In this work, we show that appending linearly independent rows to a check matrix of a stabilizer code can reduce the search space for a valid degenerate solution. Motivated by this, we extend the recently proposed affine subcode ensemble decoding technique from the classical to the quantum setting. Moreover, we employ overcomplete matrices for each decoding path. Monte-Carlo simulations on toric and generalized bicycle codes demonstrate improved convergence and reduced logical error rate.

Reliable Non-Line-of-Sight Intrusion Detection with Integrated Sensing and Communications Hardware

Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) sensing has the potential to enable use cases like intrusion detection in occluded areas, increasing the value provided by Integrated Sensing and Commu- nications (ISAC) in future 6G cellular networks. In this paper, we present a reliable NLOS intrusion detection system based on a millimeter-wave ISAC proof-of-concept. By leveraging reflections off a large surface, the proposed system addresses the challenge of detecting moving targets in cluttered indoor industrial scenarios where the direct line-of-sight is obstructed. A signal processing pipeline including a tracking stage, comparing a Kalman Filter (KF)- and a probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter-based approach, is applied to detect targets and track movements in NLOS. Experimental validation conducted in the ARENA2036 industrial research campus demonstrates that our system can reliably detect target presence in NLOS while avoiding false alarms. Tests with synthetically generated false peaks further demonstrate the robustness of our system to false alarms. Overall, the results underline the potential of NLOS ISAC as a promising technology for enabling intrusion detection and monitoring use cases.

Affine Subcode Ensemble Decoding of Linear Block Codes

In the short block length regime, ensemble decoding schemes with their inherently parallel structure can improve error correction performance and reduce latency compared to stand-alone suboptimal decoders such as belief propagation (BP). In this work, we introduce affine subcode ensemble decoding (aSCED), which uses an ensemble of decoders operating on linear block codes and both linear and strictly affine subcodes. This generalizes the recently proposed subcode ensemble decoding (SCED), which is restricted to linear subcodes. We derive BP update rules for affine subcodes and show that aSCED simplifies ensemble design compared to SCED, multiple bases BP, and automorphism ensemble decoding. Monte-Carlo simulations of two low-density parity-check codes and two Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes demonstrate improved error correction performance of aSCED over competing existing ensemble schemes. Notably, for one BCH code, when combining ensemble design with algorithms for constructing high-performance parity-check matrices, aSCED achieves near-maximum likelihood performance using only 64 BP decoding paths.

A Tensor-Train Framework for Bayesian Inference in High-Dimensional Systems: Applications to MIMO Detection and Channel Decoding

Bayesian inference in high-dimensional discrete-input additive noise models is a fundamental challenge in communication systems, as the support of the required joint a posteriori probability (APP) mass function grows exponentially with the number of unknown variables. In this work, we propose a tensor-train (TT) framework for tractable, near-optimal Bayesian inference in discrete-input additive noise models. The central insight is that the joint log-APP mass function admits an exact low-rank representation in the TT format, enabling compact storage and efficient computations. To recover symbol-wise APP marginals, we develop a practical inference procedure that approximates the exponential of the log-posterior using a TT-cross algorithm initialized with a truncated Taylor-series. To demonstrate the generality of the approach, we derive explicit low-rank TT constructions for two canonical communication problems: the linear observation model under additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), applied to multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detection, and soft-decision decoding of binary linear block error correcting codes over the binary-input AWGN channel. Numerical results show near-optimal error-rate performance across a wide range of signal-to-noise ratios while requiring only modest TT ranks. These results highlight the potential of tensor-network methods for efficient Bayesian inference in communication systems.

Towards a Unified Coding Scheme for 6G

The growing demand for higher data rates necessitates continuous innovations in wireless communication systems, particularly with the emergence of 6G. Channel coding plays a crucial role in this evolution. In 5G systems, rate-adaptive raptor-like quasi-cyclic irregular low-density parity-check codes are used for the data link, while polar codes with successive cancellation list decoding handle short messages on the synchronization channel. However, to meet the stringent requirements of future 6G systems, a versatile and unified coding scheme should be developed - one that offers competitive error-correcting performance alongside low complexity encoding and decoding schemes that enable energy-efficient hardware implementations. This white paper outlines the vision for such a unified coding scheme. We explore various 6G communication scenarios that pose new challenges to channel coding and provide a first analysis of potential solutions.

Practical Methods for Distance-Adaptive Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) is a promising quantum-safe alternative to classical asymmetric cryptography that enables two authenticated parties to establish a shared secret over a potentially eavesdropped quantum channel. A key step in CV-QKD post-processing is information reconciliation, which leverages forward error correction (FEC) techniques to extract identical bit strings from noisy correlated data. In this work, we analyze the strict limitations on operating distance that are imposed by constant-rate FEC, severely limiting the practicability of CV-QKD systems in deployed optical networks. To overcome the distance limitations, we evaluate three strategies: (i) tuning modulation variance, (ii) adding controlled amounts of trusted detector loss, and (iii) the use of rate-adaptive FEC. All approaches are validated experimentally, compared in terms of performance, and we discuss implementation aspects. Our results show that while methods (i) and (ii) extend the operational distance of constant-rate FEC without the need for additional hardware components, they incur a significant penalty in secret key rate (SKR). In contrast, rate-adaptive FEC enables CV-QKD operation with performance close to the asymptotic SKR over a wide range of distances, provided that the reconciliation efficiency is chosen appropriately.

Breaking the CP Limit: Robust Long-Range OFDM Sensing via Interference Cleaning

In orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing-based radar and integrated sensing and communication systems, the sensing range is traditionally limited by the round-trip time corresponding to the cyclic prefix duration. Targets whose echoes arrive after this duration induce intersymbol interference (ISI) and associated intercarrier interference (ICI), which significantly degrade detection performance, elevate the interference-noise floor in the radar image, and reduce the useful signal power due to window mismatch. Existing methods face a trade-off between recovering useful signal and suppressing interference, particularly in multi-target scenarios. This paper proposes two frameworks to resolve this dilemma, offering a flexible trade-off between computational cost and target detection performance. First, a signal model is derived, demonstrating that ISI and ICI-oriented interference often dominates thermal noise in high-dynamic-range scenarios. To combat the ISI and ICI-based interference-noise floor increase, joint-interference cancellation with coherent compensation is proposed. This approach is an efficient evolution of the successive-interference cancellation algorithm, utilizing high-precision chirp Z-transform estimation and frequency-domain coherent compensation to recover weak distant targets. For scenarios requiring maximum precision, the full reconstruction-based sliding window scheme is presented, which shifts the receive window to capture optimal signal energy while performing full-signal reconstruction for all detected targets. Numerical results show that both methods outperform state-of-the-art benchmarks.

Constellation Shaping for OFDM-ISAC Systems: From Theoretical Bounds to Practical Implementation

Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) promises new use cases for mobile communication systems by reusing the communication signal for radar-like sensing. However, sensing and communications (S&C) impose conflicting requirements on the modulation format, resulting in a tradeoff between their corresponding performance. This paper investigates constellation shaping as a means to simultaneously improve S&C performance in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based ISAC systems. We begin by deriving how the transmit symbols affect detection performance and derive theoretical lower and upper bounds on the maximum achievable information rate under a given sensing constraint. Using an autoencoder-based optimization, we investigate geometric, probabilistic, and joint constellation shaping, where joint shaping combines both approaches, employing both optimal maximum a-posteriori decoding and practical bit-metric decoding. Our results show that constellation shaping enables a flexible trade-off between S&C, can approach the derived upper bound, and significantly outperforms conventional modulation formats. Motivated by its practical implementation feasibility, we review probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) and propose a generalization tailored to ISAC. For this generalization, we propose a low-complexity log-likelihood ratio computation with negligible rate loss. We demonstrate that combining conventional and generalized PAS enables a flexible and low-complexity tradeoff between S&C, closely approaching the performance of joint constellation shaping.

Precoding Design for Multi-User MIMO Joint Communications and Sensing

We investigate precoding for multi-user (MU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) joint communications and sensing (JCAS) systems, taking into account the potential interference between sensing and communication channels. We derive indicators for the sensing and communication performance, i.e., the detection probability and the communication signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) for general input signals. Our results show that the use of the communication signal for sensing can prevent a loss in communication performance if channel interference occurs, while the kurtosis of the transmit alphabet of the communication signal limits the sensing performance. We present simulation results of example setups.

On the Error Rate of Binary BCH Codes under Error-and-erasure Decoding

Determining the exact decoding error probability of linear block codes is an interesting problem. For binary BCH codes, McEliece derived methods to estimate the error probability of a simple bounded distance decoding (BDD) for BCH codes. However, BDD falls short in many applications. In this work, we consider error-and-erasure decoding and its improved variants. We derive closed-form expressions for their error probabilities and validate them through simulations. Then, we illustrate their use in assessing concatenated coding schemes.
