Tunable Emergent Gauge Fields from Skyrmions in a Quasicrystalline Lattice

We study magnetic skyrmions in a two-dimensional quasicrystalline lattice using a classical Heisenberg model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions and an external magnetic field. The competition between the skyrmion-skyrmion repulsion and an emergent quasiperiodic pinning landscape gives rise to a sequence of distinct skyrmion lattice configurations as a function of field. The resulting hierarchy of quasiperiodic pinning potentials, characterized by closely spaced quasi-degenerate minima, enables a quasi-continuous suppression of the skyrmion density as the saturation field is approached, in sharp contrast to the strongly first-order collapse of skyrmion crystals on periodic lattices. This provides a direct mechanism for controlling the topological charge and, consequently, the emergent gauge field for itinerant electrons. As a consequence, the Hall conductivity can be strongly modified with small changes in the magnetic field and driven smoothly to zero near saturation. This field-controlled tunability, rooted in the underlying multistability, identifies quasicrystalline magnets as a platform for tunable topological textures, with potential applications in magnetic memory and magnetoelectronic response.

Dynamics of Quantum Chiral Solitons

We introduce a nonperturbative framework for quantizing chiral solitons in interacting quantum spin chains. This approach provides a direct lattice extension of the well-established $S$-duality between the sine-Gordon and Thirring models, thereby bridging the gap between continuum dualities and their lattice counterparts. By constructing the quantum chiral-soliton operators explicitly, we show how their unconventional dynamics appear in the excitation spectrum and correlation functions across the full Brillouin zone. A key result is that the dominant soliton tunneling amplitude alternates in sign, $\operatorname{sgn}(t_{1+}) = (-1)^{2S+1}$, sharply distinguishing half-odd-integer from integer spin chains. We further identify characteristic signatures of these chiral excitations in the dynamical spin structure factor, demonstrating their visibility in inelastic neutron scattering. Our results open a route to experimentally probing nonperturbative features of dual quantum field theories in condensed-matter settings.

Skyrmion and Meron Crystals in Intermetallic Gd$_3$Ru$_4$Al$_{12}$: Microscopic Model Insights into Chiral Phases

Topological spin textures in frustrated intermetallics hold great promise for spintronics applications. However, understanding their origin and properties remains a significant challenge due to competing and often long-range interactions mediated by conduction electrons. Here, by combining neutron scattering experiments with theoretical modeling via unprecedented multi-target fits that further incorporate the ferromagnentic resonance data and magnetization curve, we construct a realistic microscopic model for the prototypical intermetallic skyrmion host \text{Gd}$_3$\text{Ru}$_4$\text{Al}$_{12}$. Beyond magnetic frustration, we identify the competition between dipolar interactions and easy-plane single-ion anisotropy as a key ingredient for stabilizing the rich chiral magnetic phases observed in this compound -- including a hexagonal skyrmion crystal and two distinct meron crystals. Remarkably, the meron crystal in lower field is revealed to be commensurate with the underlying lattice, and its unique three-meron-one-antimeron spin texture is verified by the polarized x-ray diffraction data. At elevated temperatures, the short-range spin correlations in \text{Gd}$_3$\text{Ru}$_4$\text{Al}$_{12}$ are well described by a codimension-two spiral spin-liquid. Perturbations from staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions give rise to chiral fluctuations that account for the temperature and field dependence of the anomalous Hall response. Our results highlight the unique power of neutron scattering, especially when combined with complementary experimental techniques, to unravel complex magnetic phase transitions and provide new insights into the rich variety of topological spin textures in frustrated systems.

Wannier states and spin supersolid physics in the triangular antiferromagnet K$_2$Co(SeO$_3$)$_2$

We combine ultra-high-resolution inelastic neutron scattering and quantum Monte Carlo simulations to study thermodynamics and spin excitations in the spin-supersolid phase of the triangular lattice XXZ antiferromagnet K$_2$Co(SeO$_3$)$_2$ under zero and non-zero magnetic field. BKT transitions signaling the onset of Ising and supersolid order are clearly identified, and the Wannier entropy is experimentally recovered just above the supersolid phase. At low temperatures, with an experimental resolution of about 23 $μ$eV, no discrete coherent magnon modes are resolved within a broad scattering continuum. Alongside gapless excitations, a pseudo-Goldstone mode with a 0.06 meV gap is observed. A second, higher-energy continuum replaces single-spin-flip excitations of the Ising model. Under applied fields, the continuum evolves into coherent spin waves, with Goldstone and pseudo-Goldstone sectors responding differently. The experiments and simulations show excellent quantitative agreement.

Quasicrystalline chiral soliton lattices in a Fibonacci helimagnet

We investigate the ground state magnetic configurations of a Fibonacci chain of classical spins with nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic and monoaxial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interactions. Our analysis reveals a diverse array of magnetic textures induced by an external magnetic field perpendicular to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya vector. These textures exhibit a spectrum ranging from a quasi-fully polarized non-collinear state under high magnetic fields, capable of maintaining metastable chiral soliton topological defects, to a variety of quasicrystalline chiral soliton lattices below a critical field $H_c$. For a range of magnetic fields below $H_c$, the ground state spin textures result from the interplay between an effective quasiperiodic potential influencing the solitons and their repulsive interactions. At lower magnetic fields, the system experiences a commensurate-incommensurate transition, signified by the appearance of discommensurations in the quasicrystalline soliton lattice. In the absence of an external magnetic field, the ground state assumes a helical configuration with a quasiperiodic pitch angle.

Topological phases of strongly-interacting time-reversal invariant topological superconducting chains under a magnetic field

Using the density-matrix renormalization group, we determine the different topological phases and low-energy excitations of a time-reversal invariant topological superconducting (TRITOPS) wire with extended s-wave superconductivity, Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and on-site repulsion $U$, under an externally applied Zeeman field $J$. For the case in which $J$ is perpendicular to the SOC, the model describes a chain of Shiba impurities on top of a superconductor with extended superconductor pairing. We identify the different topological phases of the model at temperature $T=0$, and in particular study the stability of the TRITOPS phase against the Zeeman field $J$ and the chemical potential $μ$, for different values of $U$. In the case where the magnetic field $J$ is perpendicular to the SOC axis, the pair of Kramers-degenerate Majorana zero modes at the edges of the system that exist for $J=0$, remain degenerate until a critical value of the magnetic field is reached. For $J$ parallel to the SOC and up to moderate values of $U$, the fractional spin projection $\langle S_y \rangle=1/4$ at the ends, found for non-interacting wires at $U=0$, is recovered. In addition, the analytic expression that relates $\langle S_y \rangle$ with $J$ for finite non-interacting chains is shown to be universal up to moderate values of $U$.
