Gas diffusion in nanoporous thin films

We analyze the Fick's diffusion of a gas inside porous nanomaterials through the one-dimensional diffusion equation in nanopores for various cases of boundary conditions for homogeneous and non-homogeneous problems. We study the diffusion problems, starting without adsorption of the gas inside the pores, to more complex situations with surface adsorption in the pore walls and at the pore tips. Different methods of solution are reviewed depending on the problem, such as similarity transformation, Laplace transform, separation of variables, Danckwerts method and the Green's functions technique. The recovery step when the diffusion process stops and reached the steady-state is presented as well for the different problems.

3-omega method for thermal properties of thin film multilayers

Short review on the different models for the electro-thermal 3-omega method. We present the deduction of the fundamental relation between the 3-omega voltage with the temperature rise to determine the thermal conductivity. The usage of the anisotropy of the films allows a smooth transition between 1D and 2D models. A comparison between the multilayer methods and analytical solutions are presented.

Matrix method for thin film optics

Review of a matrix method used in optics of thin films for the calculation of reflectance, transmittance, absorptance, the electric field distribution inside the stack and the photonic dispersion considering the stack as perfect unidimensional crystals -Distributed Bragg mirrors-. We emphasizes the discussion on transfer matrices and give an alternative approach with scattering matrices for the propagation of light as plane waves through a homogeneous layered system.
