Dynamic fault detection and diagnosis for alkaline water electrolyzer with variational Bayesian Sparse principal component analysis

Electrolytic hydrogen production serves as not only a vital source of green hydrogen but also a key strategy for addressing renewable energy consumption challenges. For the safe production of hydrogen through alkaline water electrolyzer (AWE), dependable process monitoring technology is essential. However, random noise can easily contaminate the AWE process data collected in industrial settings, presenting new challenges for monitoring methods. In this study, we develop the variational Bayesian sparse principal component analysis (VBSPCA) method for process monitoring. VBSPCA methods based on Gaussian prior and Laplace prior are derived to obtain the sparsity of the projection matrix, which corresponds to $\ell_2$ regularization and $\ell_1$ regularization, respectively. The correlation of dynamic latent variables is then analyzed by sparse autoregression and fault variables are diagnosed by fault reconstruction. The effectiveness of the method is verified by an industrial hydrogen production process, and the test results demonstrated that both Gaussian prior and Laplace prior based VBSPCA can effectively detect and diagnose critical faults in AWEs.

GPT-4V-AD: Exploring Grounding Potential of VQA-oriented GPT-4V for Zero-shot Anomaly Detection

Large Multimodal Model (LMM) GPT-4V(ision) endows GPT-4 with visual grounding capabilities, making it possible to handle certain tasks through the Visual Question Answering (VQA) paradigm. This paper explores the potential of VQA-oriented GPT-4V in the recently popular visual Anomaly Detection (AD) and is the first to conduct qualitative and quantitative evaluations on the popular MVTec AD and VisA datasets. Considering that this task requires both image-/pixel-level evaluations, the proposed GPT-4V-AD framework contains three components: \textbf{\textit{1)}} Granular Region Division, \textbf{\textit{2)}} Prompt Designing, \textbf{\textit{3)}} Text2Segmentation for easy quantitative evaluation, and have made some different attempts for comparative analysis. The results show that GPT-4V can achieve certain results in the zero-shot AD task through a VQA paradigm, such as achieving image-level 77.1/88.0 and pixel-level 68.0/76.6 AU-ROCs on MVTec AD and VisA datasets, respectively. However, its performance still has a certain gap compared to the state-of-the-art zero-shot method, \eg, WinCLIP and CLIP-AD, and further researches are needed. This study provides a baseline reference for the research of VQA-oriented LMM in the zero-shot AD task, and we also post several possible future works. Nonlinear sparse variational Bayesian learning based model predictive control with application to PEMFC temperature control

The accuracy of the underlying model predictions is crucial for the success of model predictive control (MPC) applications. If the model is unable to accurately analyze the dynamics of the controlled system, the performance and stability guarantees provided by MPC may not be achieved. Learning-based MPC can learn models from data, improving the applicability and reliability of MPC. This study develops a nonlinear sparse variational Bayesian learning based MPC (NSVB-MPC) for nonlinear systems, where the model is learned by the developed NSVB method. Variational inference is used by NSVB-MPC to assess the predictive accuracy and make the necessary corrections to quantify system uncertainty. The suggested approach ensures input-to-state (ISS) and the feasibility of recursive constraints in accordance with the concept of an invariant terminal region. Finally, a PEMFC temperature control model experiment confirms the effectiveness of the NSVB-MPC method.

Dynamic fault detection and diagnosis of industrial alkaline water electrolyzer process with variational Bayesian dictionary learning

Alkaline Water Electrolysis (AWE) is one of the simplest green hydrogen production method using renewable energy. AWE system typically yields process variables that are serially correlated and contaminated by measurement uncertainty. A novel robust dynamic variational Bayesian dictionary learning (RDVDL) monitoring approach is proposed to improve the reliability and safety of AWE operation. RDVDL employs a sparse Bayesian dictionary learning to preserve the dynamic mechanism information of AWE process which allows the easy interpretation of fault detection results. To improve the robustness to measurement uncertainty, a low-rank vector autoregressive (VAR) method is derived to reliably extract the serial correlation from process variables. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated with an industrial hydrogen production process, and RDVDL can efficiently detect and diagnose critical AWE faults.

Approximate Message Passing-Enhanced Graph Neural Network for OTFS Data Detection

Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation has emerged as a promising solution to support high-mobility wireless communications, for which, cost-effective data detectors are critical. Although graph neural network (GNN)-based data detectors can achieve decent detection accuracy at reasonable computational cost, they fail to best harness prior information of transmitted data. To further minimize the data detection error of OTFS systems, this letter develops an AMP-GNN-based detector, leveraging the approximate message passing (AMP) algorithm to iteratively improve the symbol estimates of a GNN. Given the inter-Doppler interference (IDI) symbols incur substantial computational overhead to the constructed GNN, learning-based IDI approximation is implemented to sustain low detection complexity. Simulation results demonstrate a remarkable bit error rate (BER) performance achieved by the proposed AMP-GNN-based detector compared to existing baselines. Meanwhile, the proposed IDI approximation scheme avoids a large amount of computations with negligible BER degradation.

MLCA-AVSR: Multi-Layer Cross Attention Fusion based Audio-Visual Speech Recognition

While automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems degrade significantly in noisy environments, audio-visual speech recognition (AVSR) systems aim to complement the audio stream with noise-invariant visual cues and improve the system's robustness. However, current studies mainly focus on fusing the well-learned modality features, like the output of modality-specific encoders, without considering the contextual relationship during the modality feature learning. In this study, we propose a multi-layer cross-attention fusion based AVSR (MLCA-AVSR) approach that promotes representation learning of each modality by fusing them at different levels of audio/visual encoders. Experimental results on the MISP2022-AVSR Challenge dataset show the efficacy of our proposed system, achieving a concatenated minimum permutation character error rate (cpCER) of 30.57% on the Eval set and yielding up to 3.17% relative improvement compared with our previous system which ranked the second place in the challenge. Following the fusion of multiple systems, our proposed approach surpasses the first-place system, establishing a new SOTA cpCER of 29.13% on this dataset.

Model-Driven Sensing-Node Selection and Power Allocation for Tracking Maneuvering Targets in Perceptive Mobile Networks

Maneuvering target tracking will be an important service of future wireless networks to assist innovative applications such as intelligent transportation. However, tracking maneuvering targets by cellular networks faces many challenges. For example, the dense network and high-speed targets make the selection of the sensing nodes (SNs) and the associated power allocation very challenging. Existing methods demonstrated engaging performance, but with high computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a model-driven deep learning (DL)-based approach for SN selection. To this end, we first propose an iterative SN selection method by jointly exploiting the majorization-minimization (MM) framework and the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). Then, we unfold the iterative algorithm as a deep neural network and prove its convergence. The proposed method achieves lower computational complexity, because the number of layers is less than the number of iterations required by the original algorithm, and each layer only involves simple matrix-vector additions/multiplications. Finally, we propose an efficient power allocation method based on fixed point (FP) water filling and solve the joint SN selection and power allocation problem under the alternative optimization framework. Simulation results show that the proposed method achieves better performance than the conventional optimization-based methods with much lower computational complexity.

This paper delineates the visual speech recognition (VSR) system introduced by the NPU-ASLP-LiAuto (Team 237) in the first Chinese Continuous Visual Speech Recognition Challenge (CNVSRC) 2023, engaging in the fixed and open tracks of Single-Speaker VSR Task, and the open track of Multi-Speaker VSR Task. In terms of data processing, we leverage the lip motion extractor from the baseline1 to produce multi-scale video data. Besides, various augmentation techniques are applied during training, encompassing speed perturbation, random rotation, horizontal flipping, and color transformation. The VSR model adopts an end-to-end architecture with joint CTC/attention loss, comprising a ResNet3D visual frontend, an E-Branchformer encoder, and a Transformer decoder. Experiments show that our system achieves 34.76% CER for the Single-Speaker Task and 41.06% CER for the Multi-Speaker Task after multi-system fusion, ranking first place in all three tracks we participate.

Anatomy-guided fiber trajectory distribution estimation for cranial nerves tractography

Diffusion MRI tractography is an important tool for identifying and analyzing the intracranial course of cranial nerves (CNs). However, the complex environment of the skull base leads to ambiguous spatial correspondence between diffusion directions and fiber geometry, and existing diffusion tractography methods of CNs identification are prone to producing erroneous trajectories and missing true positive connections. To overcome the above challenge, we propose a novel CNs identification framework with anatomy-guided fiber trajectory distribution, which incorporates anatomical shape prior knowledge during the process of CNs tracing to build diffusion tensor vector fields. We introduce higher-order streamline differential equations for continuous flow field representations to directly characterize the fiber trajectory distribution of CNs from the tract-based level. The experimental results on the vivo HCP dataset and the clinical MDM dataset demonstrate that the proposed method reduces false-positive fiber production compared to competing methods and produces reconstructed CNs (i.e. CN II, CN III, CN V, and CN VII/VIII) that are judged to better correspond to the known anatomy.

Sensing Mutual Information with Random Signals in Gaussian Channels: Bridging Sensing and Communication Metrics

Sensing performance is typically evaluated by classical radar metrics, such as Cramer-Rao bound and signal-to-clutter-plus-noise ratio. The recent development of the integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) framework motivated the efforts to unify the performance metric for sensing and communication, where mutual information (MI) was proposed as a sensing performance metric with deterministic signals. However, the need of communication in ISAC systems necessitates the transmission of random signals for sensing applications, whereas an explicit evaluation for the sensing mutual information (SMI) with random signals is not yet available in the literature. This paper aims to fill the research gap and investigate the unification of sensing and communication performance metrics. For that purpose, we first derive the explicit expression for the SMI with random signals utilizing random matrix theory. On top of that, we further build up the connections between SMI and traditional sensing metrics, such as ergodic minimum mean square error (EMMSE), ergodic linear minimum mean square error (ELMMSE), and ergodic Bayesian Cramér-Rao bound (EBCRB). Such connections open up the opportunity to unify sensing and communication performance metrics, which facilitates the analysis and design for ISAC systems. Finally, SMI is utilized to optimize the precoder for both sensing-only and ISAC applications. Simulation results validate the accuracy of the theoretical results and the effectiveness of the proposed precoding designs.

Unitary and efficient spin squeezing in cavity optomechanics

We propose an approach to produce spin squeezed states of a large number of nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond nanostructures coupled to an optical cavity. Unlike the previous squeezing method proposed by Bennett et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 156402 (2013)], which is limited by phonon number fluctuations due to the existence of phonon-spin entanglement, our proposal can completely erase the entanglement between spins and hybrid phonon-photon mode mediating the effective spin-spin interaction, and thus achieves unitary one-axis-twisting interactions between nitrogen-vacancy centres, yielding a squeezing scaling $J^{-2/3}$, where J is the total angular momentum. We found that, under certain conditions, our method has the potential to enhance the spin-spin nonlinear interactions. We also proposed a scheme utilizing repeatedly applying the one-axis-twisting evolution to two orthogonal spin directions, which enables the transformation of the one-axis-twisting interactions into two-axis-twisting type, and therefore leads to the spin squeezing with Heisenberg-limited scaling $J^{-1}$. Taking into account the noise effects of spin dephasing and relaxtion, we found that the proposed approaches are robust against imperfections.

DualVC 2: Dynamic Masked Convolution for Unified Streaming and Non-Streaming Voice Conversion

Voice conversion is becoming increasingly popular, and a growing number of application scenarios require models with streaming inference capabilities. The recently proposed DualVC attempts to achieve this objective through streaming model architecture design and intra-model knowledge distillation along with hybrid predictive coding to compensate for the lack of future information. However, DualVC encounters several problems that limit its performance. First, the autoregressive decoder has error accumulation in its nature and limits the inference speed as well. Second, the causal convolution enables streaming capability but cannot sufficiently use future information within chunks. Third, the model is unable to effectively address the noise in the unvoiced segments, lowering the sound quality. In this paper, we propose DualVC 2 to address these issues. Specifically, the model backbone is migrated to a Conformer-based architecture, empowering parallel inference. Causal convolution is replaced by non-causal convolution with dynamic chunk mask to make better use of within-chunk future information. Also, quiet attention is introduced to enhance the model's noise robustness. Experiments show that DualVC 2 outperforms DualVC and other baseline systems in both subjective and objective metrics, with only 186.4 ms latency. Our audio samples are made publicly available.

SponTTS: modeling and transferring spontaneous style for TTS

Spontaneous speaking style exhibits notable differences from other speaking styles due to various spontaneous phenomena (e.g., filled pauses, prolongation) and substantial prosody variation (e.g., diverse pitch and duration variation, occasional non-verbal speech like a smile), posing challenges to modeling and prediction of spontaneous style. Moreover, the limitation of high-quality spontaneous data constrains spontaneous speech generation for speakers without spontaneous data. To address these problems, we propose SponTTS, a two-stage approach based on neural bottleneck (BN) features to model and transfer spontaneous style for TTS. In the first stage, we adopt a Conditional Variational Autoencoder (CVAE) to capture spontaneous prosody from a BN feature and involve the spontaneous phenomena by the constraint of spontaneous phenomena embedding prediction loss. Besides, we introduce a flow-based predictor to predict a latent spontaneous style representation from the text, which enriches the prosody and context-specific spontaneous phenomena during inference. In the second stage, we adopt a VITS-like module to transfer the spontaneous style learned in the first stage to the target speakers. Experiments demonstrate that SponTTS is effective in modeling spontaneous style and transferring the style to the target speakers, generating spontaneous speech with high naturalness, expressiveness, and speaker similarity. The zero-shot spontaneous style TTS test further verifies the generalization and robustness of SponTTS in generating spontaneous speech for unseen speakers.

BS-PLCNet: Band-split Packet Loss Concealment Network with Multi-task Learning Framework and Multi-discriminators

Packet loss is a common and unavoidable problem in voice over internet phone (VoIP) systems. To deal with the problem, we propose a band-split packet loss concealment network (BS-PLCNet). Specifically, we split the full-band signal into wide-band (0-8kHz) and high-band (8-24kHz). The wide-band signals are processed by a gated convolutional recurrent network (GCRN), while the high-band counterpart is processed by a simple GRU network. To ensure high speech quality and automatic speech recognition (ASR) compatibility, multi-task learning (MTL) framework including fundamental frequency (f0) prediction, linguistic awareness, and multi-discriminators are used. The proposed approach tied for 1st place in the ICASSP 2024 PLC Challenge.

SELM: Speech Enhancement Using Discrete Tokens and Language Models

Language models (LMs) have shown superior performances in various speech generation tasks recently, demonstrating their powerful ability for semantic context modeling. Given the intrinsic similarity between speech generation and speech enhancement, harnessing semantic information holds potential advantages for speech enhancement tasks. In light of this, we propose SELM, a novel paradigm for speech enhancement, which integrates discrete tokens and leverages language models. SELM comprises three stages: encoding, modeling, and decoding. We transform continuous waveform signals into discrete tokens using pre-trained self-supervised learning (SSL) models and a k-means tokenizer. Language models then capture comprehensive contextual information within these tokens. Finally, a detokenizer and HiFi-GAN restore them into enhanced speech. Experimental results demonstrate that SELM achieves comparable performance in objective metrics alongside superior results in subjective perception. Our demos are available https://honee-w.github.io/SELM/.
