Outage Performance of Fluid Antenna System (FAS)-aided Terahertz Communication Networks

Millimeter-wave networks have already been successfully rolled out in many countries and now the research direction heads toward new technologies and standards to enable Tbps rates for future sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication systems. This work studies a point-to-point terahertz (THz) communication network exploiting the concept of a fluid antenna system (FAS) over correlated alpha-mu fading channels, nicely fitting the THz communication. Furthermore, the considered system is expanded to the selection-combining-FAS (SC-FAS) and maximum-gain-combining- FAS (MGC-FAS) diversity variates at the receiver side. The proposed FAS and its diversity configuration techniques are aimed to combat the high path loss, blockages, and molecular absorption effect related to the THz band. Our contribution includes comprehensive outage probability (OP) performance analysis for the THz band given the non-diversity and diversity FAS receivers. Moreover, the derived outage probability formulas are verified via Monte Carlo simulations. Numerical results have confirmed the superior performance of the MGC-FAS scheme in terms of OP. Finally, this work justifies that a higher number of antenna ports dramatically improves the system performance, even in the presence of correlation.

Long-Range Longitudinal Electric Wave in Vacuum Radiated by Electric Dipole: Part II

In this work we further advance theoretical investigation of radiation by the electric dipole under the assumption that wavelength is much smaller than charge separation distance of an electric dipole, which in turn is much smaller than a distance up to the point of observation. The electric dipole considered in this paper is the one with fixed charge positions, but oscillating charge magnitudes. Specifically, two cases were considered. In the first case phase delay between oscillations of the charge magnitudes was taken into account. In the second case, opposite current wave travel direction was considered. These results generalize the classical solution for electric dipole radiation, and they show that under the above assumptions the electric dipole emits both long-range longitudinal electric and transverse electromagnetic waves. Longitudinal and transverse electric fields emitted by the electric dipole with current wave traveling in both directions are displayed for specific values of the dipole system parameters. It was shown that under the standard assumptions that charge separation distance is much smaller than wavelength and non-zero phase delay between charge oscillations: a) our solution reduces to classical solution; b) transverse electromagnetic waves are dominant while longitudinal electric waves are negligible; c) total radiated power is proportional to the fourth degree of frequency and to the second degree of the charge separation distance. In case wavelength is much smaller than charge separation distance: a) the classical solution is invalid and it overestimates the total radiated power; b) longitudinal electric waves are dominant and transverse electromagnetic waves are negligible; c) total radiated power is proportional to the third degree of frequency and to the charge separation distance. All derived potential and force fields were summarized in the table.

A Non-Ideal NOMA-based mmWave D2D Networks with Hardware and CSI Imperfections

This letter investigates a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) assisted millimeter-wave device-to-device (D2D) network practically limited by multiple interference noises, transceiver hardware impairments, imperfect successive interference cancellation, and channel state information mismatch. Generalized outage probability expressions for NOMA-D2D users are deduced and achieved results, validated by Monte Carlo simulations, are compared with the orthogonal multiple access to show the superior performance of the proposed network model

Long-Range Longitudinal Electric Wave in Vacuum Radiated by Electric Dipole: Part I

In this work by using the assumptions that wavelength is much smaller than charge separation distance of an electric dipole, which in turn is much smaller than a distance up to the point of observation, the new results for radiation of an electric dipole were obtained. These results generalize and extend the standard classical solution, and they indicate that under the above assumptions the electric dipole emits both long-range longitudinal electric and transverse electromagnetic waves. For a specific values of the dipole system parameters the longitudinal and transverse electric fields are displayed. Total power emitted by electric and electromagnetic waves are calculated and compared. It was shown that under the standard assumption of charge separation distance being much smaller than wavelength: a) classical solution correctly describes the transverse electromagnetic waves only; b) longitudinal electric waves are non-negligible; c) total radiated power is proportional to the fourth degree of frequency and to the second degree of the charge separation distance; d) transverse component of our solution reduces to classical solution. In case wavelength is much smaller than charge separation distance: a) the classical solution is not valid and it overestimates the total radiated power; b) longitudinal electric waves are dominant and transverse electromagnetic waves are negligible; c) total radiated power is proportional to the third degree of frequency and to the charge separation distance; d) most of the power is emitted in a narrow beam along the dipole axis, thus emission of waves is focused as with lasers.
