Simple and Accurate Oscillation Probabilities for Three Coupled Neutrinos Propagating in Matter

Within a conventional Hamiltonian description, we find accurate closed-form expressions for the oscillation probabilities of three coupled neutrinos propagating in matter. Subtle cancelations that occur in coefficients of our formulation are avoided for all transitions $ν_a \to ν_b$ by transforming to a different set of coefficients presented in an appendix of this paper. The neutrino mass eigenvalues are easily obtained numerically as the solution of a cubic equation. Our methods are illustrated for flavor-changing transitions in the $(ν_e,ν_μ)$ sector. The resulting analytic expressions oscillation probabilities, which are particularly simple, are also accurate to a few percent over all regions of interest at present and the envisioned future neutrino facilities. While somewhat less accurate than numerical simulations, our approximate expressions are sufficiently accuracy to obviate the need for exact computer simulations in many circumstances.

Review of QCD, QGP, Heavy Quark Meson Production Enhancement and Suppression

This review of the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD),the early universe Cosmoloical Phase Transition from the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) to our present universe (QCDPT), Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions (RHIC) which can produce the QGP, the possible detection of the QGP produced by the production of mixed hybrid heavy quark mesons. We also review recent studies of the production of mixed heavy quark hybrids via RHIC and heavy quark meson supression in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions.

Review of Neutrino Oscillations With Sterile and Active Neutrinos

Recently neutrino oscillation experiments have shown that it is very likely that there are one or two sterile neutrinos. In this review neutrino oscillations with one, two, three sterile and three active neutrinos, and parameters that are consistent with experiments, are reviewed.

Regions of Applicability of Approximate Formulations of Neutrino Oscillations in Matter

We examine the reliability of the theoretical methods presently used for analysis and prediction of neutrino oscillation phenomena. Of particular interest are the limitations imposed by branch points when expansions in one of the small parameters of the Standard Neutrino Model (SNM) are made to obtain tractable results. Our evaluation compares the approximate oscillation probabilities for flavor-changing transitions in the $(ν_e , ν_μ)$ sector to exact results obtained from of a recently-developed exact analytical representation of neutrino oscillations in matter within the SNM. From our numerical comparisons, we are able to identify regions where the existing approaches can be improved to take full advantage of the higher quality data expected at future neutrino facilities.

Analytical Theory of Neutrino Oscillations in Matter with CP violation

We develop an exact analytical formulation of neutrino oscillations in matter within the framework of the Standard Neutrino Model assuming 3 Dirac Neutrinos. Our Hamiltonian formulation, which includes CP violation, leads to expressions for the partial oscillation probabilities that are linear combinations of spherical Bessel functions in the eigenvalue differences. The coefficients of these Bessel functions are polynomials in the neutrino CKM matrix elements, the neutrino mass differences squared, the strength of the neutrino interaction with matter, and the neutrino mass eigenvalues in matter. We give exact closed-form expressions for all partial oscillation probabilities in terms of these basic quantities. Adopting the Standard Neutrino Model, we then examine how the exact expressions for the partial oscillation probabilities might simplify by expanding in one of the small parameters α and sinθ13 of this model. We show explicitly that for small α and sinθ13 there are branch points in the analytic structure of the eigenvalues that lead to singular behavior of expansions near the solar and atmospheric resonances. We present numerical calculations that indicate how to use the small-parameter expansions in practice.

Neutrino Oscillations With Two Sterile Neutrinos

This work estimates the probability of $μ$ to $e$ neutrino oscillation with two sterile neutrinos using a 5x5 U-matrix, an extension of the previous estimate with one sterile neutrino and a 4x4 U-matrix. The sterile neutrino-active neutrino mass differences and the mixing angles of the two sterile neutrinos with the three active neutrinos are taken from recent publications, and the oscillation probability for one sterile neutrino is compared to the previous estimate.

Review of QCD, Quark-Gluon Plasma, Heavy Quark Hybrids, and Heavy Quark State production in p-p and A-A collisions

This is a review of the Quantum Chromodynamics Cosmological Phase Transitions, the Quark-Gluon Plasma, the production of heavy quark states via p-p collisions and RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions) using the mixed hybrid theory for the $Ψ(2S)$ and $Υ(3S)$ states; and the possible detection of the Quark-Gluon Plasma via heavy quark production using RHIC. Recent research on fragmentation for the production of D mesons is reviewed, as is future theoretical and experimental research on the Collins and Sivers fragmentation functions for pions produced in polarized p-p collisions.

Neutrino Oscillations With Three Active and Three Sterile Neutrinos

This is an extension of estimates of the probability of $ν$ to $e$ neutrino oscillation with one sterile neutrino to three sterile neutrinos, using a 6x6 matrix. Since the mixing angle for only one sterile neutrino has been experimentally determined, we estimate the $ν$ to $e$ neutrino oscillation probability with different mixing angles for two of the sterile neutrinos.

D Production In p-p and d-Au Collisions

This is an extension of our previous work on $J/Ψ$, $Ψ'(2S)$, $Υ(nS)$ production in p-p and A-A collisions to the production of $D^+(c\bar{d}),D^o(c\bar{u})$, with the main new aspect being the fragmentation probability, $D_{c \rightarrow c\bar{q}}$, which has been calculated almost two decades ago. The rapidity cross sections for $D^+(c\bar{d}),D^o(c\bar{u})$ production from both p-p and d-AU collisions is estimated.

$Z_c(3900)$ as a Four-Quark State

Using the method of QCD Sum Rules, we derive the correlator $Π^Z$ for a state consisting of two charm quarks and two light quarks, $c\bar{c}u\bar{d}$, and carry out a Borel transform to find $Π^Z(M_B)$. From this we find the solution that $M_B\simeq 3.9 \pm .2$ GeV, showing that the $Zc(3900)$ is a tetra-quark state.

Improved Theory of Neutrino Oscillations in Matter

This is revision of the S-Matrix theory of neutrino oscillations used for many years. We evaluate the transition probability of a $μ$ to $e$ neutrino without an approximation used for many theoretical studies, and find important differences which could improve the extraction of neutrino parameters from experimental data in the future.

Heavy-quark state production in A-A collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=200 GeV

We estimate differential rapidity cross sections for $J/Ψ$ and $Υ(1S)$ production via Cu-Cu and Au-Au collisions at RHIC, and the relative probabilities of $Ψ'(2S)$ to $J/Ψ$ production via p-p collisions using our recent theory of mixed heavy quark hybrids, in which the $Ψ'(2S)$ mesons have approximately equal normal $q\bar{q}$ and hybrid $q\bar{q}g$ components. We also estimate the relative probabilities of $Ψ'(2S)$ to $J/Ψ$ production via Cu-Cu and Au-Au collisions, which will be measured in future RHIC experiments. We also review production ratios of $Υ(2S)$ and $Υ(3S)$ to $Υ(1S)$ in comparison to recent experimental results. This is an extension of our recent work on p-p collisions for possible tests of the production of Quark-Gluon Plasma via A-A collisions at BNL-RHIC.
