Minimally extended SILH

Higgs boson compositeness is a phenomenologically viable scenario addressing the hierarchy problem. In minimal models, the Higgs boson is the only degree of freedom of the strong sector below the strong interaction scale. We present here the simplest extension of such a framework with an additional composite spin-zero singlet. To this end, we adopt an effective field theory approach and develop a set of rules to estimate the size of the various operator coefficients, relating them to the parameters of the strong sector and its structural features. As a result, we obtain the patterns of new interactions affecting both the new singlet and the Higgs boson's physics. We identify the characteristics of the singlet field which cause its effects on Higgs physics to dominate over the ones inherited from the composite nature of the Higgs boson. Our effective field theory construction is supported by comparisons with explicit UV models.

N-Relaxion: Large Field Excursions from a Few Site Relaxion Model

Relaxion models are an interesting new avenue to explain the radiative stability of the Standard Model scalar sector. They require very large field excursions, which are difficult to generate in a consistent UV completion and to reconcile with the compact field space of the relaxion. We propose an N-site model which naturally generates the large decay constant needed to address these issues. Our model offers distinct advantages with respect to previous proposals: the construction involves non-abelian fields, allowing for controlled high energy behaviour and more model building possibilities, both in particle physics and inflationary models, and also admits a continuum limit when the number of sites is large, which may be interpreted as a warped extra dimension.

The clique number and the smallest Q-eigenvalue of graphs

Let $q_{\min}(G)$ stand for the smallest eigenvalue of the signless Laplacian of a graph $G$ of order $n.$ This paper gives some results on the following extremal problem: How large can $q_\min\left( G\right) $ be if $G$ is a graph of order $n,$ with no complete subgraph of order $r+1?$ It is shown that this problem is related to the well-known topic of making graphs bipartite. Using known classical results, several bounds on $q_{\min}$ are obtained, thus extending previous work of Brandt for regular graphs. In addition, using graph blowups, a general asymptotic result about the maximum $q_{\min}$ is established. As a supporting tool, the spectra of the Laplacian and the signless Laplacian of blowups of graphs are calculated.

Higgs Flavor Violation as a Signal to Discriminate Models

We consider the Higgs Lepton Flavor Violating process $h \rightarrow τμ$, in which CMS found a $2.5 σ$ excess of events, from a model independent perspective, and find that it is difficult to generate this operator without also obtaining a sizeable Wilson coefficient for the dipole operators responsible for tau radiative decay, constrained by BABAR to ${BR}(τ\rightarrow μγ)< 4.4 \times 10^{-8} $. We then survey a set of representative models for new physics, to determine which ones are capable of evading this problem. We conclude that, should this measurement persist as a signal, type-III Two Higgs Doublet Models and Higgs portal-like models are favored, while SUSY and Composite Higgs models are unlikely to explain it.

Colorless Top Partners, a 125 GeV Higgs, and the Limits on Naturalness

Theories of physics beyond the Standard Model that address the hierarchy problem generally involve top partners, new particles that cancel the quadratic divergences associated with the Yukawa coupling of the Higgs to the top quark. With extensions of the Standard Model that involve new colored particles coming under strain from collider searches, scenarios in which the top partners carry no charge under the strong interactions have become increasingly compelling. Although elusive for direct searches, these theories predict modified couplings of the Higgs boson to the Standard Model particles. This results in corrections to the Higgs production and decay rates that can be detected at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) provided the top partners are sufficiently light, and the theory correspondingly natural. In this paper we consider three theories that address the little hierarchy problem and involve colorless top partners, specifically the Mirror Twin Higgs, Folded Supersymmetry, and the Quirky Little Higgs. For each model we investigate the current and future bounds on the top partners, and the corresponding limits on naturalness, that can be obtained from the Higgs program at the LHC. We conclude that the LHC will not be able to strongly disfavor naturalness, with mild tuning at the level of about one part in ten remaining allowed even with 3000 fb$^{-1}$ of data at 14 TeV.

Spectra of the blow-up graphs

Let $G$ be graph on $n$ vertices and $G^{(t)}$ its blow-up graph of order $t.$ In this paper, we determine all eigenvalues of the Laplacian and the signless Laplacian matrix of $G^{(t)}$ and its complement $\bar{G^{(t)}}.$

A lower bound for the sum of the two largest signless Laplacian eigenvalues

Let $G$ be a graph of order $n \geq 3$ with sequence degree given as $d_{1}(G) \geq ... \geq d_{n}(G)$ and let $μ_1(G),..., μ_n(G)$ and $q_1(G), ..., q_{n}(G)$ be the Laplacian and signless Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ arranged in non increasing order, respectively. Here, we consider the Grone's inequality [R. Grone, Eigenvalues and degree sequences of graphs, Lin. Multilin. Alg. 39 (1995) 133--136] $$ \sum_{i=1}^{k} μ_{i}(G) \geq \sum_{i=1}^{k} d_{i}(G)+1$$ and prove that for $k=2$, the equality holds if and only if $G$ is the star graph $S_{n}.$ The signless Laplacian version of Grone's inequality is known to be true when $k=1.$ In this paper, we prove that it is also true for $k=2,$ that is, $$q_{1}(G)+q_{2}(G) \geq d_1(G)+d_2(G)+1$$ with equality if and only if $G$ is the star $S_{n}$ or the complete graph $K_{3}.$ When $k \geq 3$, we show a counterexample.

Extremal graphs for the sum of the two largest signless Laplacian eigenvalues

Let G be a simple graph on $n$ vertices and $e(G)$ edges. Consider $Q(G) = D + A$ as the signless Laplacian of $G$, where $A$ is the adjacency matrix and $D$ is the diagonal matrix of the vertices degree of $G$. Let $q_1(G)$ and $q_2(G)$ be the first and the second largest eigenvalues of $Q(G),$ respectively, and denote by $S_{n}^{+}$ the star graph plus one edge. In this paper, we prove that inequality $q_1(G)+ q_2(G) <= e(G)+3$ is tighter for the graph $S_{n}^{+}$ among all firefly graphs and also tighter to $S_{n}^{+}$ than to the graphs $K_{k} \vee \overline{K_{n-k}}$ recently presented by Ashraf, Omidi and Tayfeh-Rezaie. Also, we conjecture that the same inequality is tighter to $S_{n}^{+}$ than any other graph on $n$ vertices.

Full-hierarchy Quiver Theories of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and Fermion Masses

We consider quiver theories in four dimensions with a large ultra-violet cutoff. These theories require that an ordered set of vacuum expectation values for the link fields develops dynamically and can be obtained from the coarse deconstruction of extra-dimensional theories in an AdS background. These full-hierarchy quiver theories form a large class which include AdS$_5$ models as a limit, but which have a distinctive phenomenology. As an example, in this paper we show that fermions can be introduced in a way that can at the same time generate the fermion mass hierarchy and have flavor violation consistent with experimental bounds, when the mass scale of the color-octect gauge excitation is above $3 {\rm TeV}$. We also show that electroweak precision constraints are satisfied by this mass scale, without the need to extend the gauge sector to protect against custodial violation.

New Strongly Coupled Sector at the Tevatron and the LHC

We examine the possibility that a new strong interaction is accessible to the Tevatron and the LHC. In an effective theory approach, we consider a scenario with a new color-octet interaction with strong couplings to the top quark, as well as the presence of a strongly coupled fourth-generation which could be responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking. We apply several constraints, including the ones from flavor physics. We study the phenomenology of the resulting parameter space at the Tevatron, focusing on the the forward-backward asymmetry in top pair production, as well as in the production of the fourth-generation quarks. We show that if the excess in the top production asymmetry is indeed the result of this new interaction, the Tevatron could see the first hints of the strongly coupled fourth-generation quarks. Finally, we show that the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=7~$TeV and $1~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity should observe the production of fourth-generation quarks at a level at least one order of magnitude above the QCD prediction for the production of these states.
