State-of-the-art cross sections for ttH: NNLO predictions matched with NNLL resummation and EW corrections

We present new, state-of-the-art predictions for the associated production of the SM Higgs boson with top quarks, computed in accordance with the recommendations of the LHC Higgs Working Group. The NNLO QCD predictions, derived through suitable approximations of the two-loop virtual contribution, are supplemented with soft-gluon resummation up to NNLL accuracy. Two distinct resummation frameworks are employed - one based on direct QCD and the other on soft-collinear effective theory - and their features are compared in detail. These results are further combined with the complete-NLO corrections, yielding the most precise SM predictions for this process to date. The relevant sources of theoretical uncertainties are thoroughly estimated and discussed.

Gluon Sivers function from forward exclusive $χ_{c1}$ photoproduction on unpolarized protons

Exclusive production of a $χ_{c1}$ axial vector quarkonia in photon-proton scattering at high energies requires a $C$-odd $t$-channel exchange. In the limit of vanishing momentum transfer this occurs either via the exchange of a photon, the Primakoff process, where the spin of the proton does not change. For axial-vector meson production, as a consequence of the Landau-Yang theorem, the Primakoff cross section is finite as $t \to 0$. Alternatively, a $C$-odd spin dependent Odderon can be exchanged, which involves a spin flip of the proton. The resulting cross section is related to the square of the collinear trigluon correlator or the $k_\perp$-moment of the gluon Sivers function. Using two models for the gluon Sivers function from the literature we compute the ratio of Sivers to Primakoff cross sections and the angular coefficient $λ_θ$ governing the angular distribution of the $χ_{c1} \to J/ψ+ γ$ decay as functions of $x$. We point out that these observables constrain the magnitude of the gluon Sivers function at small $x$ which could be accessed in electron-proton scattering and ultraperipheral proton-proton and nucleus-proton collisions.

Reconciling the kinematical constraint with the JIMWLK evolution equation: correlation functions non-local in rapidity

In the high-energy limit of DIS experiments the effective degrees of freedom of QCD are Wilson line operators. Their evolution in the rapidity variable is predicted by the set of Balitsky-JIMWLK evolution equations. We analyze a new class of two-point correlation functions of Wilson line operators where the Wilson lines are taken at different values of the rapidity variable. Such correlation functions can appear in the discussion of the kinematical constraint. We find that in the Langevin formulation of the JIMWLK equation, such correlation functions are affected by an infrared divergence. We discuss a possible regularization of this divergence and its consequences for the implementation of the kinematical constraint for the JIMWLK equation.

Photon-Odderon interference in exclusive $χ_{c}$ charmonium production at the Electron-Ion Collider

Exclusive $C=+1$ scalar, axial-vector, and tensor quarkonium production in high-energy electron-proton scattering requires a $C$-odd $t$-channel exchange of a photon or a three gluon ladder. We derive the expressions for the corresponding amplitudes. The relative phase of the photon vs. three gluon exchange amplitudes is determined by the sign of the light-front matrix element of the eikonal color current operator $d^{abc}J^{+a}J^{+b}J^{+c}$ at moderate $x$, and is not affected by small-$x$ QCD evolution. Model calculations predict constructive interference, which is particularly strong for momentum transfer $|t|\sim 1$~GeV$^2$ where the cross section for $χ_{cJ}$ production exceeds that for pure photon exchange by up to a factor of 4. We find that exclusive $χ_{cJ}$ electroproduction at the Electron-Ion Collider should occur with well measurable rates and measurements of these processes should allow to find an evidence of the perturbative Odderon exchange. We also compute the total electroproduction cross section as a function of energy and provide first estimates of the number of $χ_{cJ}$ events per month at the Electron-Ion Collider design luminosity.

Twist decomposition of non-linear effects in Balitsky-Kovchegov evolution of proton structure functions

Effects of non-linear small-x evolution of the gluon distribution given by the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation are analyzed within the collinear approximation framework. We perform a twist decomposition of the proton structure functions F2 and FL obtained from the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation using the Mellin representation of the scattering cross-sections at high energies. In both the structure functions we find strong corrections coming from the non-linear effects in the gluon evolution at twist 2, and strongly suppressed higher twist effects. This implies that unitarization effects of high energy scattering amplitudes are mostly the leading twist effect. Furthermore we consider the double logarithmic limit of the Balitsky--Kovchegov equation for the collinear gluon distribution, and compare the result to the Gribov-Levin-Ryskin equation. We find that these two equations differ by two powers of the hard scale logarithm for the large scales.

Color Reconnection Effects in $J/ψ$ Hadroproduction

We investigate production of $J/ψ$ mesons in hadron-hadron collisions, defined as low invariant mass $c\bar{c}$ singlets produced in a mixture of perturbative and nonperturbative mechanisms provided by the PYTHIA Monte Carlo. We find that in this model the color reconnection mechanism, which breaks the factorization, is essential to reasonably describe the experimental data.

Hybrid kT-factorization and impact factors at NLO

In the hybrid kT-factorization formula, one initial-state parton momentum is space-like and carries non-vanishing transverse components, while the other is on-shell. We promote this factorization formula to next-to-leading order. Studying the partonic cross section, we identify all soft and collinear divergencies in the real and virtual contribution, and recognize that all non-cancelling ones can be attributed to PDF evolution, evolution kernel, and target impact factors. In result, we construct a framework that may be used to compute NLO impact factors in general. In particular, we recover known expressions for inclusive NLO quark-and gluon impact factor corrections.

Prompt photon production in proton collisions as a probe of parton scattering in high energy limit

We study the prompt photon hadroproduction at the LHC with the $k_T$-factorization approach and the $qg^* \to qγ$ and $g^*g^* \to q\bar qγ$ partonic channels, using three unintegrated gluon distributions which depend on gluon transverse momentum. They represent three different theoretical schemes which are usually considered in the $k_T$-factorization approach, known under the acronyms: KMR, CCFM and GBW gluon distributions. We find sensitivity of the calculated prompt photon transverse momentum distribution to the gluon transverse momentum distribution. The predictions obtained with the three approaches are compared to data, that allows to differentiate between them. We also discuss the significance of the two partonic channels, confronted with the expectations which are based on the applicability of the $k_T$-factorization scheme in the high energy approximation.

Associated top quark pair production with a heavy boson: differential cross sections at NLO+NNLL accuracy

We present theoretical predictions for selected differential cross sections for the process $pp \to t \bar{t} B$ at the LHC, where $B$ can be a Higgs ($H$), a $Z$ or a $W$ boson. The predictions are calculated in the direct QCD framework up to the next-to-next-leading logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy and matched to the complete NLO results including QCD and electroweak effects. Additionally, results for the total cross sections are provided. The calculations deliver a significant improvement of the theoretical predictions, especially for the $t \bar{t} H$ and the $t \bar{t} Z$ production. In these cases, predictions for both the total and differential cross sections are remarkably stable with respect to the central scale choice and carry a substantially reduced scale uncertainty in comparison with the complete NLO predictions.

Top Precision for Associated Top-Pair Production Processes at the LHC

The studies of the associated production processes of a top-quark pair with a colour-singlet boson, e.g. Higgs, W or Z, are among the highest priorities of the LHC programme. Correspondingly, improvements in precision of theoretical predictions for these processes are of central importance. In this talk, we review our latest results on resummation of soft gluon corrections. The resummation is carried out using the direct QCD Mellin space technique in three-particle invariant mass kinematics. We discuss the impact of the soft gluon corrections on predictions for total cross sections and differential distributions.

Drell-Yan plus jet production and BFKL evolution

Production of a forward Drell-Yan lepton pair accompanied by a jet separated by a large rapidity interval is proposed to study the BFKL evolution at the LHC. Several observables to be measured are presented including the azimuthal angle dependence of the lepton pair which allows to determine Drell-Yan structure functions.

BFKL Pomeron loop contribution in diffractive photoproduction and inclusive hadroproduction of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$

We analyze contributions to the heavy vector meson production with large transverse momentum in proton--proton and diffractive photon--proton scattering driven by an exchange of two Balitsky--Fadin--Kuraev--Lipatov Pomerons in the squared amplitudes. The Pomerons couple to a single parton and form a Pomeron loop closed by the vector meson impact factors. For the photon--proton case the diffractive cut of the Pomeron loop contributes, and for the inclusive hadroproduction one finds the loop with two cut Pomerons. We compute both of these Pomeron loop contributions and study in detail their properties. The results are then used to calculate the cross sections for diffractive $J/ψ$ photoproduction with large transverse momentum at HERA and the correlated two Pomeron contribution for inclusive $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ production cross sections at the LHC. Within a unified approach a good description of the photoproduction data is found, but correlated two Pomeron mechanism gives only a small contribution to hadroproduction of the vector mesons at the LHC.

Associated production of a top quark pair with a heavy electroweak gauge boson at NLO+NNLL accuracy

We perform threshold resummation of soft gluon corrections to the total cross sections and the invariant mass distributions for production of a top-antitop quark pair associated with a heavy electroweak boson $V = W^+$, $W^-$ or $Z$ in $pp$ collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. The resummation is carried out at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy using the direct QCD Mellin space technique in the three-particle invariant mass kinematics. It is found that for the $t\bar t Z$ process the soft gluon resummation introduces significant corrections to the next-to-leading order (NLO) results. For the central scale equal to the $t\bar t Z$ invariant mass the corrections reach nearly 30%. For this process, the dominant theoretical uncertainty of the cross section due to the scale choice is significantly reduced at the NLO+NNLL level with respect to the NLO results. The effects of resummation are found to be less pronounced in the $t\bar t W^{\pm}$ case. The obtained results are compared to recent measurements performed by CMS and ATLAS collaborations at the LHC.

Forward Drell-Yan and backward jet production as a probe of the BFKL dynamics

We propose a new process which probes the BFKL dynamics in the high energy proton-proton scattering, namely the forward Drell-Yan (DY) production accompanied by a backward jet, separated from the DY lepton pair by a large rapidity interval. The proposed process probes higher rapidity differences and smaller transverse momenta than in the Mueller-Navelet jet production. It also offers a possibility of measuring new observables like leptons angular distribution coefficients in the DY lepton pair plus jet production.

Improving predictions for associated $t\bar{t}H$ production at the LHC: soft gluon resummation through NNLL accuracy

In the following we present our recent results on the resummation of soft gluon corrections to the $pp\rightarrow t\bar{t}H$ cross section at the LHC. The resummation was carried out at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy using the Mellin space technique. Obtained results were matched to the NLO cross section. We show that the resummation leads to reduction of scale-variation uncertainty of the total $pp\rightarrow t\bar{t}H$ cross section.

Associated $t \bar{t} H$ production at the LHC: theoretical predictions at NLO+NNLL accuracy

We perform threshold resummation of soft gluon corrections to the total cross section and the invariant mass distribution for the process $pp \to t\bar{t}H$. The resummation is carried out at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy using the direct QCD Mellin space technique in the three-particle invariant mass kinematics. After presenting analytical expressions we discuss the impact of resummation on the numerical predictions for the associated Higgs boson production with top quarks at the LHC. We find that NLO+NNLL resummation leads to predictions for which the central values are remarkably stable with respect to scale variation and for which theoretical uncertainties are reduced in comparison to NLO predictions.
