Entanglement convertibility by sweeping through the quantum phases of the alternating bonds $XXZ$ chain

We study the entanglement structure and the topological edge states of the ground state of the spin-1/2 XXZ model with bond alternation. We employ parity-density matrix renormalization group with periodic boundary conditions. The finite-size scaling of Rényi entropies $S_2$ and $S_\infty$ are used to construct the phase diagram of the system. The phase diagram displays three possible phases: Haldane type (an example of symmetry protected topological ordered phases), Classical Dimer and Néel phases, the latter bounded by two continuous quantum phase transitions. The entanglement and non-locality in the ground state are studied and quantified by the entanglement convertibility. We found that, at small spatial scales, the ground state is not convertible within the topological Haldane dimer phase. The phenomenology we observe can be described in terms of correlations between edge states. We found that the entanglement spectrum also exhibits a distinctive response in the topological phase: the effective rank of the reduced density matrix displays a specifically large "susceptibility" in the topological phase. These findings support the idea that although the topological order in the ground state cannot be detected by local inspection, the ground state response at local scale can tell the topological phases apart from the non-topological phases.

Integral almost square-free modular categories

We study integral almost square-free modular categories; i.e., integral modular categories of Frobenius-Perron dimension $p^nm$, where $p$ is a prime number, $m$ is a square-free natural number and ${\rm gcd}(p,m)=1$. We prove that if $n\leq 5$ or $m$ is prime with $m<p$ then they are group-theoretical. This generalizes several results in the literature and gives a partial answer to the question posed by the first author and H. Tucker. As an application, we prove that an integral modular category whose Frobenius-Perron dimensions is odd and less than $1125$ is group-theoretical.

Extracting entangled qubits from Majorana fermions in quantum dot chains through the measurement of parity

We propose a scheme for extracting entangled charge qubits from quantum-dot chains that support zero-energy edge modes. The edge mode is composed of Majorana fermions localized at the ends of each chain. The qubit, logically encoded in double quantum dots, can be manipulated through tunneling and pairing interactions between them. The detailed form of the entangled state depends on both the parity measurement (an even or odd number) of the boundary-site electrons in each chain and the teleportation between the chains. The parity measurement is realized through the dispersive coupling of coherent-state microwave photons to the boundary sites, while the teleportation is performed via Bell measurements. Our scheme illustrates \emph{localizable entanglement} in a fermionic system, which serves feasibly as a quantum repeater under realistic experimental conditions, as it allows for finite temperature effect and is robust against disorders, decoherence and quasi-particle poisoning.

Breakdown of local convertibility through Majorana modes in a quantum quench

The local convertibility of quantum states, measured by the Rényi entropy, is concerned with whether or not a state can be transformed into another state, using only local operations and classical communications. We found that in the one-dimensional Kitaev chain with quenched chemical potential $μ$, the convertibility between the state for $μ$ and that for $μ+δμ$, depends on the quantum phases of the system ($δμ$ is a perturbation). This is similar to the adiabatic case where the ground state is considered. Specifically, when the quenched system has edge modes and the subsystem size for the partition is much larger than the correlation length of the Majorana fermions which forms the edge modes, the quenched state is locally inconvertible. We give a physical interpretation for the result, based on analyzing the interactions between the two subsystems for various partitions. Our work should help to better understand the many-body phenomena in topological systems and also the entanglement properties in the Majorana fermionic quantum computation.

On Kaplansky's sixth conjecture

About $39$ years ago, Kaplansky conjectured that the dimension of a semisimple Hopf algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero is divisible by the dimensions of its simple modules. Although it still remains open, some partial answers to this conjecture play an important role in classifying semisimple Hopf algebras. This paper focuses on the recent development of Kaplansky's sixth conjecture and its applications in classifying semisimple Hopf algebras.

Existence of Tannakian subcategories and its applications

We study several classes of braided fusion categories, and prove that they all contain nontrivial Tannakian subcategories. As applications, we classify some fusion categories in terms of solvability and group-theoreticality.

On integral fusion categories with low-dimensional simple objects

Let $k$ be an algebraically closedfield of characteristic zero. In this paper we consider an integral fusion category over $k$ in which the Frobenius-Perron dimensions of its simple objects are at most 3. We prove that such fusion category is of Frobenius type. In addition, we also prove that such fusion category is not simple.

Semisimple Hopf algebras of dimension $2q^3$

Let $q$ be a prime number, $k$ an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0, and $H$ a non-trivial semisimple Hopf algebra of dimension $2q^3$. This paper proves that $H$ can be constructed either from group algebras and their duals by means of extensions, or from Radford's biproduct $H\cong R#kG$, where $kG$ is the group algebra of $G$ of order 2, $R$ is a semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld Hopf algebra in ${}^{kG}_{kG}\mathcal{YD}$ of dimension $q^3$.

Correlations and thermalization in driven cavity arrays

We show that long-distance steady-state quantum correlations (entanglement) between pairs of cavity-atom systems in an array of lossy and driven coupled resonators can be established and controlled. The maximal of entanglement for any pair is achieved when their corresponding direct coupling is much smaller than their individual couplings to the third party. This effect is reminiscent of the coherent trapping of the $Λ-$type three-level atoms using two classical coherent fields. Different geometries for coherent control are considered. For finite temperature, the steady state of the coupled lossy atom-cavity arrays with driving fields is in general not a thermal state. Using an appropriate distance measure for quantum states, we find that the change rate of the degree of thermalization with respect to the driving strength is consistent with the entanglement of the system.

Coherent control of long-distance steady state entanglement in lossy resonator arrays

We show that coherent control of the steady-state long-distance entanglement between pairs of cavity-atom systems in an array of lossy and driven coupled resonators is possible. The cavities are doped with atoms and are connected through wave guides, other cavities or fibers depending on the implementation. We find that the steady-state entanglement can be coherently controlled through the tuning of the phase difference between the driving fields. It can also be surprisingly high in spite of the pumps being classical fields. For some implementations where the connecting element can be a fiber, long-distance steady state quantum correlations can be established. Furthermore, the maximal of entanglement for any pair is achieved when their corresponding direct coupling is much smaller than their individual couplings to the third party. This effect is reminiscent of the establishment of coherence between otherwise uncoupled atomic levels using classical coherent fields. We suggest a method to measure this entanglement by analyzing the correlations of the emitted photons from the array and also analyze the above results for a range of values of the system parameters, different network geometries and possible implementation technologies.
