Simulation studies of the isovector reorientation effect of deuteron scattering on heavy target

The isovector reorientation (IVR) effect of deuteron scattering on heavy target provides a novel means to probe the nuclear isovector potential, which gives rise to the nuclear symmetry energy. The simulation studies on the experimental measurement of IVR effect using the SAMURAI terminal at RIKEN Nishina center have been performed to demonstrate the feasibility of the experiment. By introducing a well-designed polarimeter to detect the $\mathrm{p}(\vec{\mathrm{d}}, \mathrm{d})\mathrm{p}$ elastic scattering, monitoring of the tensor polarization of the deuteron beam can be implemented. The protons and neutrons produced by the breakup of polarized deuterons scattering off heavy targets are designed to be measured by proton drift chamber (PDC) combined with the SAMURAI magnet and NEBULA detector, respectively. The detector responses are simulated using Geant4 framework, where the events of the deuteron elastic breakup are generated by an Improved Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. The results of reconstructing the deuteron breakup events demonstrate the feasibility of detecting the IVR effect at SAMURAI with both longitudinal and transverse tensor polarized deuteron beams with a polarization degree of approximately 80\%.

Ramification and unicity theorems for Gauss maps of complete space-like stationary surfaces in four-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space

In this paper, we investigate the value distribution properties for Gauss maps of space-like stationary surfaces in four-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{3,1}$, focusing on aspects such as the number of totally ramified points and unicity properties. We not only obtain general conclusions similar to situations in four-dimensional Euclidean space, but also consider the space-like stationary surfaces with rational graphic Gauss image, which is an extension of degenerate space-like stationary surfaces.

Revisit to the yield ratio of triton and $^3$He as an indicator of neutron-rich neck emission

The neutron rich neck zone created in heavy ion reaction is experimentally probed by the production of the $A=3$ isobars. The energy spectra and angular distributions of triton and $^3$He are measured with the CSHINE detector in $^{86}$Kr +$^{208}$Pb reactions at 25 MeV/u. While the energy spectrum of $^{3}$He is harder than that of triton, known as "$^{3}$He-puzzle", the yield ratio $R({\rm t/^3He})$ presents a robust rising trend with the polar angle in laboratory. Using the fission fragments to reconstruct the fission plane, the enhancement of out-plane $R({\rm t/^3He})$ is confirmed in comparison to the in-plane ratios. Transport model simulations reproduce qualitatively the experimental trends, but the quantitative agreement is not achieved. The results demonstrate that a neutron rich neck zone is formed in the reactions. Further studies are called for to understand the clustering and the isospin dynamics related to neck formation.

Observing the Ping-pong Modality of Isospin Degree of Freedom in Cluster Emission from Heavy Ion Reactions

Two-body correlations of the isotope-resolved light and heavy clusters are measured in $^{86}$Kr+$^{\rm 208}$Pb reactions at 25 MeV/u. The yield and kinetic variables of the $A=3$ isobars, triton and $^3$He, are analyzed in coincidence with the heavy clusters of $7\le A \le 14$ emitted at the earlier chance. While the velocity spectra of both triton and $^3$He exhibit scaling behavior over the type of the heavy clusters, the yield ratios of ${\rm t/^3He}$ correlate reversely to the neutron-to-proton ratio $N/Z$ of the latter, showing the ping-pong modality of the $N/Z$ of emitted clusters. The commonality that the $N/Z$ of the residues keeps the initial system value is extended to the cluster emission in heavy ion reactions. The comparison of transport model calculations to the data is discussed.

On complete space-like stationary surfaces in Minkowski spacetime with graphical Gauss image

Concerning the value distribution problem for generalized Gauss maps, we not only generalize Fujimoto's theorem to complete space-like stationary surfaces in Minkowski spacetime, but also estimate the upper bound of the number of exceptional values when the Gauss image lies in the graph of a rational function f of degree m, showing a sharp contrast to Bernstein type results for minimal surfaces in 4-dimensional Euclidean space. Moreover, we introduce the conception of conjugate similarity on the special linear group to classify all degenerate stationary surfaces (i.e. m=0 or 1), and establish several structure theorems for complete stationary graphs in Minkowski spacetime from the viewpoint of the degeneracy of Gauss maps.

DP-DNA: A Digital Pattern-Aware DNA Storage System to Improve Encoding Density

With the rapid increase of available digital data, DNA storage is identified as a storage media with high density and capability of long-term preservation, especially for archival storage systems. However, the encoding density (i.e., how many binary bits can be encoded into one nucleotide) and error handling are two major factors intertwined in DNA storage. Considering encoding density, theoretically, one nucleotide can encode two binary bits (upper bound). However, due to biochemical constraints and other necessary information associated with payload, the encoding densities of various DNA storage systems are much less than this upper bound. Additionally, all existing studies of DNA encoding schemes are based on static analysis and really lack the awareness of dynamically changed digital patterns. Therefore, the gap between the static encoding and dynamic binary patterns prevents achieving a higher encoding density for DNA storage systems. In this paper, we propose a new Digital Pattern-Aware DNA storage system, called DP-DNA, which can efficiently store digital data in DNA storage with high encoding density. DP-DNA maintains a set of encoding codes and uses a digital pattern-aware code (DPAC) to analyze the patterns of a binary sequence for a DNA strand and selects an appropriate code for encoding the binary sequence to achieve a high encoding density. An additional encoding field is added to the DNA encoding format, which can distinguish the encoding scheme used for those DNA strands, and thus we can decode DNA data back to its original digital data. Moreover, to further improve the encoding density, a variable-length scheme is proposed to increase the feasibility of the coding scheme with a high encoding density. Finally, the experimental results indicate that the proposed DP-DNA achieves up to 103.5% higher encoding densities than prior work.

IMG-DNA: Approximate DNA Storage for Images

Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) as a storage medium with high density and long-term preservation properties can satisfy the requirement of archival storage for rapidly increased digital volume. The read and write processes of DNA storage are error-prone. Images widely used in social media have the properties of fault tolerance which are well fitted to the DNA storage. However, prior work simply investigated the feasibility of DNA storage storing different types of data and simply store images in DNA storage, which did not fully investigate the fault-tolerant potential of images in the DNA storage. In this paper, we proposed a new image-based DNA system called IMG-DNA, which can efficiently store images in DNA storage with improved DNA storage robustness. First, a new DNA architecture is proposed to fit JPEG-based images and improve the image's robustness in DNA storage. Moreover, barriers inserted in DNA sequences efficiently prevent error propagation in images of DNA storage. The experimental results indicate that the proposed IMG-DNA achieves much higher fault-tolerant than prior work.

Progress of Quantum Molecular Dynamics model and its applications in Heavy Ion Collisions

In this review article, we first briefly introduce the transport theory and quantum molecular dynamics model applied in the study of the heavy ion collisions from low to intermediate energies. The developments of improved quantum molecular dynamics model (ImQMD) and ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics model (UrQMD), are reviewed. The reaction mechanism and phenomena related to the fusion, multinucleon transfer, fragmentation, collective flow and particle production are reviewed and discussed within the framework of the two models. The constraints on the isospin asymmetric nuclear equation of state and in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections by comparing the heavy ion collision data with transport models calculations in last decades are also discussed, and the uncertainties of these constraints are analyzed as well. Finally, we discuss the future direction of the development of the transport models for improving the understanding of the reaction mechanism, the descriptions of various observables, the constraint on the nuclear equation of state, as well as for the constraint on in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections.

Shielding effects in fusion reactions of proton-halo nucleus

To explain the experimental facts that the fusion cross sections of proton-halo nucleus on heavy target nucleus is not enhanced as expected, the shielding supposition has been proposed. Namely, the proton-halo nucleus is polarized with the valence proton being shielded by the core. In this paper, within the frame of the Improved Quantum Molecular Dynamics model, the fusion reactions by $^{17}$F on $^{208}$Pb around Coulomb barrier have been simulated. The existence of shielding effect is verified by microscopic dynamics analysis and its influence on the effective interaction potential is also investigated.

A new probe to study symmetry energy at low density by deuteron breakup reaction

The reactions of nucleon and polarized deuteron scattered off a heavy target at large impact parameter with intermediate energies have been investigated by using the improved quantum molecular dynamics model. It is found that, due to the difference effect of isovector potential on proton and neutron, there is a significant difference between the angle distribution of elastic scattering protons and neutrons. To overcome the lack of monochromatic neutron beam, the reaction of polarized deuteron peripherally scattered off the heavy target is used to replace the reaction of individual proton and neutron scattered off heavy target to study the isospin effect. It is found that the distributions of elastic scattering angle of proton and neutron originating from the breakup of deuteron are very similar to the results of the individual proton- and neutron-induced reaction. A new probe more effective and more clean, namely the difference between elastic scattering angle of proton and neutron originating from the breakup of polarized deuteron, is promoted to constrain the symmetry energy at subsaturation density.

In-medium nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections determined from nucleon-induced reaction cross sections data

Within the framework of the improved quantum molecular dynamics model, the medium modifications on the free nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections are investigated. By using various in-medium nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections in the model, the nucleon-induced reactions on various targets are simulated, and the excitation functions of reaction cross sections in the energy range from 25 MeV to 1 GeV are calculated. By comparing the calculations with the experimental data, an isospin, density, and momentum-dependence medium correction factor on free nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections is determined.

Beam energy dependence of the relativistic retardation effects of electrical fields on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio in heavy-ion collisions

In this article we investigate the beam energy dependence of relativistic retardation effects of electrical fields on the single and double $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratios in three heavy-ion reactions with an isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model IBUU11. With the beam energy increasing from 200 to 400 MeV/nucleon, effects of the relativistically retarded electrical fields on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio are found to increase gradually from negligibly to considerably significant as expectedly; it is however, the interesting observation is the relativistic retardation effects of electrical fields on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio are becoming gradually insignificant as the beam energy further increasing from 400 to 800 MeV/nucleon. Moreover, we also investigate the isospin dependence of relativistic retardation effects of electrical fields on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio in two isobar reaction systems of $^{96}$Ru+$^{96}$Ru and $^{96}$Zr+$^{96}$Zr at the beam energies from 200 to 800 MeV/nucleon. It is shown that the relativistic retardation effects of electrical fields on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio are independent of the isospin of reaction. Furthermore, we also examine the double $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio in reactions of $^{96}$Zr+$^{96}$Zr over $^{96}$Ru+$^{96}$Ru at the beam energies from 200 to 800 MeV/nucleon with the static field and retarded field, respectively. It is shown the double $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio from two reactions is still an effective observable of symmetry energy without the interference of electrical field due to using the relativistic calculation compared to the nonrelativistic calculation.

Effects of retarded electrical fields on observables sensitive to the high-density behavior of nuclear symmetry energy in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies

Within the isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model IBUU11, we examine the relativistic retardation effects of electrical fields on the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio and neutron-proton differential transverse flow in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies. Compared to the static Coulomb fields, the retarded electric fields of fast-moving charges are known to be anisotropic and the associated relativistic corrections can be significant. They are found to increase the number of energetic protons in the participant region at the maximum compression by as much as 25\% but that of energetic neutrons by less than 10\% in $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au reactions at a beam energy of 400 MeV/nucleon. Consequently, more $π^{+}$ and relatively less $π^{-}$ mesons are produced, leading to an appreciable reduction of the $π^{-}/π^{+}$ ratio compared to calculations with the static Coulomb fields. Also, the neutron-proton differential transverse flow, as another sensitive probe of high-density symmetry energy, is also decreased appreciably due to the stronger retarded electrical fields in directions perpendicular to the velocities of fast-moving charges compared to calculations using the isotropic static electrical fields. Moreover, the retardation effects on these observables are found to be approximately independent of the reaction impact parameter.

Improvement on Fermionic properties and new isotope production in molecular dynamics simulations

By considering momentum transfer in the Fermi constraint procedure, the stability of the initial nuclei and fragments produced in heavy-ion collisions can be further improved in the quantum molecular dynamics simulations. The case of the phase space occupation probability larger than one is effectively reduced with the proposed procedure. Simultaneously, the energy conservation can be better described for both individual nuclei and heavy-ion reactions. With the revised version of the improved quantum molecular dynamics (ImQMD) model, the fusion excitation functions of $^{16}$O+$^{186}$W and the central collisions of Au+Au at 35 AMeV are re-examined. The fusion cross sections at sub-barrier energies and the charge distribution of fragments are relatively better reproduced due to the reduction of spurious nucleon emission. The charge and isotope distribution of fragments in Xe+Sn, U+U and Zr+Sn at intermediate energies are also predicted. More unmeasured extremely neutron-rich fragments with $Z=16-28$ are observed in the central collisions of $^{238}$U+$^{238}$U than that of $^{96}$Zr+$^{124}$Sn, which indicates that multi-fragmentation of U+U may offer a fruitful pathway to new neutron-rich isotopes.

Properties of nuclear matter from macroscopic-microscopic mass formulas

Based on the standard Skyrme energy density functionals together with the extended Thomas-Fermi approach, the properties of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter represented in two macroscopic-microscopic mass formulas: Lublin-Strasbourg nuclear drop energy (LSD) formula and Weizsäcker-Skyrme (WS*) formula, are extracted through matching the energy per particle of finite nuclei. For LSD and WS*, the obtained incompressibility coefficients of symmetric nuclear matter are $K_\infty=230 \pm 11$ MeV and $235\pm 11$ MeV, respectively. The slope parameter of symmetry energy at saturation density is $L=41.6\pm 7.6$ MeV for LSD and $51.5\pm 9.6$ MeV for WS*, respectively, which is compatible with the liquid-drop analysis of Lattimer and Lim [ApJ. \textbf{771}, 51 (2013)]. The density dependence of the mean-field isoscalar and isovector effective mass, and the neutron-proton effective masses splitting for neutron matter are simultaneously investigated. The results are generally consistent with those from the Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations and nucleon optical potentials, and the standard deviations are large and increase rapidly with density. A better constraint for the effective mass is helpful to reduce uncertainties of the depth of the mean-field potential.

Further study on mechanism of production of light complex particles in nucleon-induced reactions

The Improved Quantum Molecular Dynamics (ImQMD) model incorporated with the statistical decay model is used to investigate the intermediate energy nucleon-induced reactions. In our last work, the description on light complex particle emission has been great improved with a phenomenological mechanism called surface coalescence and emission introduced into ImQMD model. In this work, taking account of different specific binding energies and separation energies for various light complex particles, the phase space parameters in surface coalescence model are readjusted. By using the new phase space parameters set with better physical fundament, the double differential cross sections of emitted light complex particles are found to be in better agreement with experimental data.

Dynamical and statistical description of multifragmentation in heavy-ion collisions

To explore the roles of dynamical model and statistical model in the description of multifragmentation in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies, the fragments charge distributions of $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au at 35 MeV/u are analyzed by using the hybrid model of improved quantum molecular dynamics (ImQMD) model plus the statistical model GEMINI. We find that, the ImQMD model can well describe the charge distributions of fragments produced in central and semi-central collisions. But for the peripheral collisions of Au+Au at 35 MeV/u, the statistical model is required at the end of the ImQMD simulations for the better description of the charge distribution of fragments. By using the hybrid model of ImQMD+GEMINI, the fragment charge distribution of Au+Au at 35 MeV/u can be reproduced reasonably well. The time evolution of the excitation energies of primary fragments is simultaneously investigated.

Microscopic dynamics simulations of heavy-ion fusion reactions induced by neutron-rich nuclei

The heavy-ion fusion reactions induced by neutron-rich nuclei are investigated with the improved quantum molecular dynamics (ImQMD) model. With a subtle consideration of the neutron skin thickness of nuclei and the symmetry potential, the stability of nuclei and the fusion excitation functions of heavy-ion fusion reactions $^{16}$O+$^{76}$Ge, $^{16}$O+$^{154}$Sm, $^{40}$Ca+$^{96}$Zr and $^{132}$Sn+$^{40}$Ca are systematically studied. The fusion cross sections of these reactions at energies around the Coulomb barrier can be well reproduced by using the ImQMD model. The corresponding slope parameter of the symmetry energy adopted in the calculations is $L \approx 78$ MeV and the surface energy coefficient is $g_{\rm sur}=18\pm 1.5$ MeVfm$^2$. In addition, it is found that the surface-symmetry term significantly influences the fusion cross sections of neutron-rich fusion systems. For sub-barrier fusion, the dynamical fluctuations in the densities of the reaction partners and the enhanced surface diffuseness at neck side result in the lowering of the fusion barrier.
