Uniform error estimate of an asymptotic preserving scheme for the Lévy-Fokker-Planck equation

We establish a uniform-in-scaling error estimate for the asymptotic preserving scheme proposed in \cite{XW21} for the Lévy-Fokker-Planck (LFP) equation. The main difficulties stem from not only the interplay between the scaling and numerical parameters but also the slow decay of the tail of the equilibrium state. We tackle these problems by separating the parameter domain according to the relative size of the scaling $ε$: in the regime where $ε$ is large, we design a weighted norm to mitigate the issue caused by the fat tail, while in the regime where $ε$ is small, we prove a strong convergence of LFP towards its fractional diffusion limit with an explicit convergence rate. This method extends the traditional AP estimates to cases where uniform bounds are unavailable. Our result applies to any dimension and to the whole span of the fractional power.

Evaluating and Enhancing Large Language Models Performance in Domain-specific Medicine: Osteoarthritis Management with DocOA

The efficacy of large language models (LLMs) in domain-specific medicine, particularly for managing complex diseases such as osteoarthritis (OA), remains largely unexplored. This study focused on evaluating and enhancing the clinical capabilities of LLMs in specific domains, using osteoarthritis (OA) management as a case study. A domain specific benchmark framework was developed, which evaluate LLMs across a spectrum from domain-specific knowledge to clinical applications in real-world clinical scenarios. DocOA, a specialized LLM tailored for OA management that integrates retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and instruction prompts, was developed. The study compared the performance of GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and a specialized assistant, DocOA, using objective and human evaluations. Results showed that general LLMs like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 were less effective in the specialized domain of OA management, particularly in providing personalized treatment recommendations. However, DocOA showed significant improvements. This study introduces a novel benchmark framework which assesses the domain-specific abilities of LLMs in multiple aspects, highlights the limitations of generalized LLMs in clinical contexts, and demonstrates the potential of tailored approaches for developing domain-specific medical LLMs.

An Improved Virtual Force Approach for UAV Deployment and Resource Allocation in Emergency Communications

In this paper, we consider an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled emergency communication system, which establishes temporary communication link with users equipment (UEs) in a typical disaster environment with mountainous forest and obstacles. Towards this end, a joint deployment, power allocation, and user association optimization problem is formulated to maximize the total transmission rate, while considering the demand of each UE and the disaster environment characteristics. Then, an alternating optimization algorithm is proposed by integrating coalition game and virtual force approach which captures the impact of the demand priority of UEs and the obstacles to the flight path and consumed power. Simulation results demonstrate that the computation time consumed by our proposed algorithm is only $5.6\%$ of the traditional heuristic algorithms, which validates its effectiveness in disaster scenarios.

AdvSV: An Over-the-Air Adversarial Attack Dataset for Speaker Verification

It is known that deep neural networks are vulnerable to adversarial attacks. Although Automatic Speaker Verification (ASV) built on top of deep neural networks exhibits robust performance in controlled scenarios, many studies confirm that ASV is vulnerable to adversarial attacks. The lack of a standard dataset is a bottleneck for further research, especially reproducible research. In this study, we developed an open-source adversarial attack dataset for speaker verification research. As an initial step, we focused on the over-the-air attack. An over-the-air adversarial attack involves a perturbation generation algorithm, a loudspeaker, a microphone, and an acoustic environment. The variations in the recording configurations make it very challenging to reproduce previous research. The AdvSV dataset is constructed using the Voxceleb1 Verification test set as its foundation. This dataset employs representative ASV models subjected to adversarial attacks and records adversarial samples to simulate over-the-air attack settings. The scope of the dataset can be easily extended to include more types of adversarial attacks. The dataset will be released to the public under the CC BY-SA 4.0. In addition, we also provide a detection baseline for reproducible research.

Emergency Localization for Mobile Ground Users: An Adaptive UAV Trajectory Planning Method

In emergency search and rescue scenarios, the quick location of trapped people is essential. However, disasters can render the Global Positioning System (GPS) unusable. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with localization devices can serve as mobile anchors due to their agility and high line-of-sight (LoS) probability. Nonetheless, the number of available UAVs during the initial stages of disaster relief is limited, and innovative methods are needed to quickly plan UAV trajectories to locate non-uniformly distributed dynamic targets while ensuring localization accuracy. To address this challenge, we design a single UAV localization method without hovering, use the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method to estimate the location of mobile users and define the upper bound of the localization error by considering users' movement.Combining this localization method and localization error-index, we utilize the enhanced particle swarm optimization (EPSO) algorithm and edge access strategy to develop a low complexity localization-oriented adaptive trajectory planning algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that our method outperforms other baseline algorithms, enabling faster localization without compromising localization accuracy.

UAV-assisted Emergency Integrated Sensing and Communication Networks: A CNN-based Rapid Deployment Approach

UAV-assisted integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) network is crucial for post-disaster emergency rescue. The speed of UAV deployment will directly impact rescue results. However, the ISAC UAV deployment in emergency scenarios is difficult to solve, which contradicts the rapid deployment. In this paper, we propose a two-stage deployment framework to achieve rapid ISAC UAV deployment in emergency scenarios, which consists of an offline stage and an online stage. Specifically, in the offline stage, we first formulate the ISAC UAV deployment problem and define the ISAC utility as the objective function, which integrates communication rate and localization accuracy. Secondly, we develop a dynamic particle swarm optimization (DPSO) algorithm to construct an optimized UAV deployment dataset. Finally, we train a convolutional neural network (CNN) model with this dataset, which replaces the time-consuming DPSO algorithm. In the online stage, the trained CNN model can be used to make quick decisions for the ISAC UAV deployment. The simulation results indicate that the trained CNN model achieves superior ISAC performance compared to the classic particle swarm optimization algorithm. Additionally, it significantly reduces the deployment time by more than 96%.

An Initial Investigation of Neural Replay Simulator for Over-the-Air Adversarial Perturbations to Automatic Speaker Verification

Deep Learning has advanced Automatic Speaker Verification (ASV) in the past few years. Although it is known that deep learning-based ASV systems are vulnerable to adversarial examples in digital access, there are few studies on adversarial attacks in the context of physical access, where a replay process (i.e., over the air) is involved. An over-the-air attack involves a loudspeaker, a microphone, and a replaying environment that impacts the movement of the sound wave. Our initial experiment confirms that the replay process impacts the effectiveness of the over-the-air attack performance. This study performs an initial investigation towards utilizing a neural replay simulator to improve over-the-air adversarial attack robustness. This is achieved by using a neural waveform synthesizer to simulate the replay process when estimating the adversarial perturbations. Experiments conducted on the ASVspoof2019 dataset confirm that the neural replay simulator can considerably increase the success rates of over-the-air adversarial attacks. This raises the concern for adversarial attacks on speaker verification in physical access applications.

Enhanced pair production in multi-pulse trains electric fields with oscillation

For different alternating-sign multi-pulse trains electric fields with oscillation, the effects of the electric field pulse number and the relative phase of the combined electric field on pair production are investigated by solving quantum Vlasov equation. It is found that the number density of created particles in the combined electric fields is increased by more than one order of magnitude compared to the results without oscillating structure for both zero transverse momentum and full momentum space. In the case of zero transverse momentum, the created particles longitudinal momentum spectrum are monochromatic for large pulse numbers and some suitable relative phases. The number density depends nonlinearly on the relative phase that enables the optimal relative phase parameters for the number density. Moreover, for the full momentum space, the created particles number density and momentum spectrum under different multi-pulse trains electric fields are given and discussed. We also find that the number density as a function of pulse number satisfies the power law with index 5.342 for the strong but slowly varying electric field with large pulse numbers.

Pixel-to-Abundance Translation: Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks Based on Patch Transformer for Hyperspectral Unmixing

Spectral unmixing is a significant challenge in hyperspectral image processing. Existing unmixing methods utilize prior knowledge about the abundance distribution to solve the regularization optimization problem, where the difficulty lies in choosing appropriate prior knowledge and solving the complex regularization optimization problem. To solve these problems, we propose a hyperspectral conditional generative adversarial network (HyperGAN) method as a generic unmixing framework, based on the following assumption: the unmixing process from pixel to abundance can be regarded as a transformation of two modalities with an internal specific relationship. The proposed HyperGAN is composed of a generator and discriminator, the former completes the modal conversion from mixed hyperspectral pixel patch to the abundance of corresponding endmember of the central pixel and the latter is used to distinguish whether the distribution and structure of generated abundance are the same as the true ones. We propose hyperspectral image (HSI) Patch Transformer as the main component of the generator, which utilize adaptive attention score to capture the internal pixels correlation of the HSI patch and leverage the spatial-spectral information in a fine-grained way to achieve optimization of the unmixing process. Experiments on synthetic data and real hyperspectral data achieve impressive results compared to state-of-the-art competitors.

AVA: Inconspicuous Attribute Variation-based Adversarial Attack bypassing DeepFake Detection

While DeepFake applications are becoming popular in recent years, their abuses pose a serious privacy threat. Unfortunately, most related detection algorithms to mitigate the abuse issues are inherently vulnerable to adversarial attacks because they are built atop DNN-based classification models, and the literature has demonstrated that they could be bypassed by introducing pixel-level perturbations. Though corresponding mitigation has been proposed, we have identified a new attribute-variation-based adversarial attack (AVA) that perturbs the latent space via a combination of Gaussian prior and semantic discriminator to bypass such mitigation. It perturbs the semantics in the attribute space of DeepFake images, which are inconspicuous to human beings (e.g., mouth open) but can result in substantial differences in DeepFake detection. We evaluate our proposed AVA attack on nine state-of-the-art DeepFake detection algorithms and applications. The empirical results demonstrate that AVA attack defeats the state-of-the-art black box attacks against DeepFake detectors and achieves more than a 95% success rate on two commercial DeepFake detectors. Moreover, our human study indicates that AVA-generated DeepFake images are often imperceptible to humans, which presents huge security and privacy concerns.

A novel design for 100 meter-scale water attenuation length measurement and monitoring

Water Cherenov detector is a vital part in most of neutrino or cosmic ray research. As detectors grow in size, the water attenuation length (WAL) becomes increasingly essential for detector performance. It is essential to measure or monitor the WAL. While many experiments have measured WAL in the lab or detector, only the Super-Kamiokande experiment has achieved values exceeding 50 meters in the detector with a moving light source. However, it is impractical for many experiments to place a moving light source inside the detector, necessitating an alternative method for investigating long WAL. A novel system has been proposed to address the challenge of investigating long WAL. This system focuses on ample water Cherenkov detectors and features a fixed light source and photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) at varying distances, eliminating the need for moving parts. The static setup demands high precision for accurate measurement of long WAL. Each component, including LED, diffuse ball, PMTs, and fibers, is introduced to explain uncertainty control. Based on lab tests, the system's uncertainty has been controlled within 5\%. Additionally, camera technology is also used during the evaluation of the system uncertainty, which has the potential to replace PMTs in the future for this measurement. Monte Carlo simulations have shown that the system can achieve a 5\% measurement uncertainty at WAL of 80 meters and 8\% at WAL of 100 meters. This system can be used in experiments with large Cherenkov detectors such as JUNO water veto and Hyper-K.

Model-free Reinforcement Learning for ${H_{2}/H_{\infty}}$ Control of Stochastic Discrete-time Systems

This paper proposes a reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm for infinite horizon $\rm {H_{2}/H_{\infty}}$ problem in a class of stochastic discrete-time systems, rather than using a set of coupled generalized algebraic Riccati equations (GAREs). The algorithm is able to learn the optimal control policy for the system even when its parameters are unknown. Additionally, the paper explores the effect of detection noise as well as the convergence of the algorithm, and shows that the control policy is admissible after a finite number of iterations. The algorithm is also able to handle multi-objective control problems within stochastic fields. Finally, the algorithm is applied to the F-16 aircraft autopilot with multiplicative noise.

Capacity and Delay of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Networks with Mobility

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are widely exploited in environment monitoring, search-and-rescue, etc. However, the mobility and short flight duration of UAVs bring challenges for UAV networking. In this paper, we study the UAV networks with n UAVs acting as aerial sensors. UAVs generally have short flight duration and need to frequently get energy replenishment from the control station. Hence the returning UAVs bring the data of the UAVs along the returning paths to the control station with a store-carry-and-forward (SCF) mode. A critical range for the distance between the UAV and the control station is discovered. Within the critical range, the per-node capacity of the SCF mode is O(n/log n) times higher than that of the multi-hop mode. However, the per-node capacity of the SCF mode outside the critical range decreases with the distance between the UAV and the control station. To eliminate the critical range, a mobility control scheme is proposed such that the capacity scaling laws of the SCF mode are the same for all UAVs, which improves the capacity performance of UAV networks. Moreover, the delay of the SCF mode is derived. The impact of the size of the entire region, the velocity of UAVs, the number of UAVs and the flight duration of UAVs on the delay of SCF mode is analyzed. This paper reveals that the mobility and short flight duration of UAVs have beneficial effects on the performance of UAV networks, which may motivate the study of SCF schemes for UAV networks.

Deep JKO: time-implicit particle methods for general nonlinear gradient flows

We develop novel neural network-based implicit particle methods to compute high-dimensional Wasserstein-type gradient flows with linear and nonlinear mobility functions. The main idea is to use the Lagrangian formulation in the Jordan--Kinderlehrer--Otto (JKO) framework, where the velocity field is approximated using a neural network. We leverage the formulations from the neural ordinary differential equation (neural ODE) in the context of continuous normalizing flow for efficient density computation. Additionally, we make use of an explicit recurrence relation for computing derivatives, which greatly streamlines the backpropagation process. Our methodology demonstrates versatility in handling a wide range of gradient flows, accommodating various potential functions and nonlinear mobility scenarios. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficacy of our approach, including an illustrative example from Bayesian inverse problems. This underscores that our scheme provides a viable alternative solver for the Kalman-Wasserstein gradient flow.

Dual Radar: A Multi-modal Dataset with Dual 4D Radar for Autonomous Driving

Radar has stronger adaptability in adverse scenarios for autonomous driving environmental perception compared to widely adopted cameras and LiDARs. Compared with commonly used 3D radars, the latest 4D radars have precise vertical resolution and higher point cloud density, making it a highly promising sensor for autonomous driving in complex environmental perception. However, due to the much higher noise than LiDAR, manufacturers choose different filtering strategies, resulting in an inverse ratio between noise level and point cloud density. There is still a lack of comparative analysis on which method is beneficial for deep learning-based perception algorithms in autonomous driving. One of the main reasons is that current datasets only adopt one type of 4D radar, making it difficult to compare different 4D radars in the same scene. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a novel large-scale multi-modal dataset featuring, for the first time, two types of 4D radars captured simultaneously. This dataset enables further research into effective 4D radar perception algorithms. Our dataset consists of 151 consecutive series, most of which last 20 seconds and contain 10,007 meticulously synchronized and annotated frames. Moreover, our dataset captures a variety of challenging driving scenarios, including many road conditions, weather conditions, nighttime and daytime with different lighting intensities and periods. Our dataset annotates consecutive frames, which can be applied to 3D object detection and tracking, and also supports the study of multi-modal tasks. We experimentally validate our dataset, providing valuable results for studying different types of 4D radars. This dataset is released on https://github.com/adept-thu/Dual-Radar.

Deep Learning for Efficient CSI Feedback in Massive MIMO: Adapting to New Environments and Small Datasets

Deep learning (DL)-based channel state information (CSI) feedback has shown promising potential to improve spectrum efficiency in massive MIMO systems. However, practical DL approaches require a sizeable CSI dataset for each scenario, and require large storage or updating bandwidth for multiple learned models. To overcome this costly barrier, we develop a solution for efficient training and deployment enhancement of DL-based CSI feedback by exploiting a lightweight translation model to cope with new CSI environments and by proposing novel dataset augmentation based on domain knowledge. Specifically, we first develop a deep unfolding CSI feedback network, SPTM2-ISTANet+, which employs spherical normalization to address the challenge of path loss variation. We also introduce an integration of a trainable measurement matrix and residual CSI recovery blocks within SPTM2-ISTANet+ to improve efficiency and accuracy. Using SPTM2-ISTANet+ as the anchor feedback model, we propose an efficient scenario-adaptive CSI feedback architecture. This new CSI-TransNet exploits a plug-in module for CSI translation consisting of a sparsity aligning function and lightweight DL module to reuse pretrained models in unseen environments. To work with small datasets, we propose a lightweight and general augmentation strategy based on domain knowledge. Test results demonstrate the efficacy and efficiency of the proposed solution for accurate CSI feedback given limited measurements for unseen CSI environments.

Multilevel Perception Boundary-guided Network for Breast Lesion Segmentation in Ultrasound Images

Automatic segmentation of breast tumors from the ultrasound images is essential for the subsequent clinical diagnosis and treatment plan. Although the existing deep learning-based methods have achieved significant progress in automatic segmentation of breast tumor, their performance on tumors with similar intensity to the normal tissues is still not pleasant, especially for the tumor boundaries. To address this issue, we propose a PBNet composed by a multilevel global perception module (MGPM) and a boundary guided module (BGM) to segment breast tumors from ultrasound images. Specifically, in MGPM, the long-range spatial dependence between the voxels in a single level feature maps are modeled, and then the multilevel semantic information is fused to promote the recognition ability of the model for non-enhanced tumors. In BGM, the tumor boundaries are extracted from the high-level semantic maps using the dilation and erosion effects of max pooling, such boundaries are then used to guide the fusion of low and high-level features. Moreover, to improve the segmentation performance for tumor boundaries, a multi-level boundary-enhanced segmentation (BS) loss is proposed. The extensive comparison experiments on both publicly available dataset and in-house dataset demonstrate that the proposed PBNet outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of both qualitative visualization results and quantitative evaluation metrics, with the Dice score, Jaccard coefficient, Specificity and HD95 improved by 0.70%, 1.1%, 0.1% and 2.5% respectively. In addition, the ablation experiments validate that the proposed MGPM is indeed beneficial for distinguishing the non-enhanced tumors and the BGM as well as the BS loss are also helpful for refining the segmentation contours of the tumor.

Fuzzy-NMS: Improving 3D Object Detection with Fuzzy Classification in NMS

Non-maximum suppression (NMS) is an essential post-processing module used in many 3D object detection frameworks to remove overlapping candidate bounding boxes. However, an overreliance on classification scores and difficulties in determining appropriate thresholds can affect the resulting accuracy directly. To address these issues, we introduce fuzzy learning into NMS and propose a novel generalized Fuzzy-NMS module to achieve finer candidate bounding box filtering. The proposed Fuzzy-NMS module combines the volume and clustering density of candidate bounding boxes, refining them with a fuzzy classification method and optimizing the appropriate suppression thresholds to reduce uncertainty in the NMS process. Adequate validation experiments are conducted using the mainstream KITTI and large-scale Waymo 3D object detection benchmarks. The results of these tests demonstrate the proposed Fuzzy-NMS module can improve the accuracy of numerous recently NMS-based detectors significantly, including PointPillars, PV-RCNN, and IA-SSD, etc. This effect is particularly evident for small objects such as pedestrians and bicycles. As a plug-and-play module, Fuzzy-NMS does not need to be retrained and produces no obvious increases in inference time.
