Role of Riemannian geometry in double-bracket quantum imaginary-time evolution

Double-bracket quantum imaginary-time evolution (DB-QITE) is a quantum algorithm which coherently implements steps in the Riemannian steepest-descent direction for the energy cost function. DB-QITE is derived from Brockett's double-bracket flow which exhibits saddle points where gradients vanish. In this work, we perform numerical simulations of DB-QITE and describe signatures of transitioning through the vicinity of such saddle points. We provide an explicit gate count analysis using quantum compilation programmed in Qrisp.

Strategies for optimizing double-bracket quantum algorithms

Recently double-bracket quantum algorithms have been proposed as a way to compile circuits for approximating eigenstates. Physically, they consist of appropriately composing evolutions under an input Hamiltonian together with diagonal evolutions. Here, we present strategies to optimize the choice of the double-bracket evolutions to enhance the diagonalization efficiency. This can be done by finding optimal generators and durations of the evolutions. We present numerical results regarding the preparation of double-bracket iterations, both in ideal cases where the algorithm's setup provides analytical convergence guarantees and in more heuristic cases, where we use an adaptive and variational approach to optimize the generators of the evolutions. As an example, we discuss the efficacy of these optimization strategies when considering a spin-chain Hamiltonian as the target. To propose algorithms that can be executed starting today, fully aware of the limitations of the quantum technologies at our disposal, we finally present a selection of diagonal evolution parametrizations that can be directly compiled into CNOTs and single-qubit rotation gates. We discuss the advantages and limitations of this compilation and propose a way to take advantage of this approach when used in synergy with other existing methods.

The convergence of the EM scheme in empirical approximation of invariant probability measure for McKean-Vlasov SDEs

Based on the assumption of the existence and uniqueness of the invariant measure for McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (MV-SDEs), a self-interacting process that depends only on the current and historical information of the solution is constructed for MV-SDEs. The convergence rate of the weighted empirical measure of the self-interacting process and the invariant measure of MV-SDEs is obtained in the W2-Wasserstein metric. Furthermore, under the condition of linear growth, an EM scheme whose uniformly 1/2-order convergence rate with respect to time is obtained is constructed for the self-interacting process. Then, the convergence rate between the weighted empirical measure of the EM numerical solution of the self-interacting process and the invariant measure of MV-SDEs is derived. Moreover, the convergence rate between the averaged weighted empirical measure of the EM numerical solution of the corresponding multi-particle system and the invariant measure of MV-SDEs in the W2-Wasserstein metric is also given. In addition, the computational cost of the two approximation methods is compared, which shows that the averaged weighted empirical approximation of the particle system has a lower cost. Finally, the theoretical results are validated through numerical experiments.

Explicit approximation of the invariant measure for SDDEs with the nonlinear diffusion term

To our knowledge, the existing measure approximation theory requires the diffusion term of the stochastic delay differential equations (SDDEs) to be globally Lipschitz continuous. Our work is to develop a new explicit numerical method for SDDEs with the nonlinear diffusion term and establish the measure approximation theory. Precisely, we construct a function-valued explicit truncated Euler-Maruyama segment process (TEMSP) and prove that it admits a unique ergodic numerical invariant measure. We also prove that the numerical invariant measure converges to the underlying one of SDDE in the Fortet-Mourier distance. Finally, we give an example and numerical simulations to support our theory.
