Hawking-Page Phase Transition of the four-dimensional de-Sitter Spacetime with non-linear source

The interplay between a dS black hole and cosmological horizons introduces distinctive thermodynamic behavior in a dS spacetime (for example the well-known upper bounds of mass and entropy in Class. Quant. Grav. 37 (2020) 5). Based on this point, we present the Hawking-Page (HP) phase transition of the four-dimensional dS spacetime with non-linear charge correction when the effective pressure is fixed, and analyze the effects of different effective pressures and non-linear charge corrections on HP phase transition. The evolution of this dS spacetime undergoing the HP phase transition is also investigated. We find that the existent curve of HP phase transition is a closed one with two different branches. That means there exist the upper bounds of the HP temperature and HP pressure, which is completely distinguished with that in AdS spacetime. And with the decreasing of the distance between two horizons, the dS spacetime at the coexistent curve of HP phase transition is going along with different branches. Furthermore we also explore the influence of charge and non-linear charge correction on the coexistent curve.

Thermodynamics of phase transition in Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter spacetime

The Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter (RN-dS) spacetime can be considered as a thermodynamic system. Its thermodynamic properties are discussed that the RN-dS spacetime has phase transitions and critical phenomena similar to that of the Van de Waals system or the charged AdS black hole. The continuous phase transition point of RN-dS spacetime depends on the position ratio of the black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon. We discuss the critical phenomenon of the continuous phase transition of RN-dS spacetime with Landau theory of continuous phase transition, that the critical exponent of spacetime is same as that of the Van de Waals system or the charged AdS black hole, which have universal physical meaning. We find that the order parameters are similar to those introduced in ferromagnetic systems. Our universe is an asymptotically dS spacetime, thermodynamic characteristics of RN-dS spacetime will help us understand the evolution of spacetime and provide a theoretical basis to explore the physical mechanism of accelerated expansion of the universe.

Entropic force between two horizons of dilaton black holes with a power-Maxwell field

In this paper, we consider $(n+1)$-dimensional topological dilaton de Sitter black holes with power-Maxwell field as thermodynamic systems. The thermodynamic quantities corresponding to the black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon respectively are interrelated. So the total entropy of the space-time should be the sum of the entropies of the black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon plus a corrected term which is produced by the association of the two horizons. We analyze the entropic force produced by the corrected term at given temperatures, which is affected by parameters and dimensions of the space-time. It is shown that the change of entropic force with the position ratio of two horizons in some region is similar to that of Lennard-Jones force with the position of particles. If the effect of entropic force is similar to that of Lennard-Jones force, and other forces are absent, the motion of the cosmological horizon relative to the black hole horizon would have an oscillating process. The entropic force between the two horizons is probably one of the participants to drive the evolution of universe.

Sampling designs for epidemic prevalence estimation

Intuitively, sampling is likely to be more efficient for prevalence estimation, if the cases (or positives) have a relatively higher representation in the sample than in the population. In case the virus is transmitted via personal contacts, contact tracing of the observed cases (but not noncases), to be referred to as \emph{adaptive network tracing}, can generate a higher yield of cases than random sampling from the population. The efficacy of relevant designs for cross-sectional and change estimation is investigated. The availability of these designs allows one unite tracing for combating the epidemic and sampling for estimating the prevalence in a single endeavour.

Microstructure and Continuous Phase Transition of the Gauss-Bonnet AdS Black Hole

The phase transition of the Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole has the similar property with the van der Waals thermodynamic system. However, it is determined by the Gauss-Bonnet coefficient α, not only the horizon radius. Furthermore, the phase transition is not the pure one between a big black hole and a small black hole. With this issue, we introduce a new order parameter to investigate the critical phenomenonand to give the microstructure explanation of the Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole phase transition. And the critical exponents are also obtained. At the critical pointof the Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole, we reveal the microstructure of the black hole by investigating the thermodynamic geometry. These results perhaps provide some certain help to deeply explore the black hole microscopic structure and to build the quantum gravity.

Generalised regression estimation given imperfectly matched auxiliary data

Generalised regression estimation allows one to make use of available auxiliary information in survey sampling. We develop three types of generalised regression estimator when the auxiliary data cannot be matched perfectly to the sample units, so that the standard estimator is inapplicable. The inference remains design-based. Consistency of the proposed estimators is either given by construction or else can be tested given the observed sample and links. Mean square errors can be estimated. A simulation study is used to explore the potentials of the proposed estimators.

Incidence weighting estimation under bipartite incidence graph sampling

Bipartite incidence graph sampling provides a unified representation of many sampling situations for the purpose of estimation, including the existing unconventional sampling methods, such as indirect, network or adaptive cluster sampling, which are not originally described as graph problems. We develop a large class of linear estimators based on the edges in the sample bipartite incidence graph, subjected to a general condition of design unbiasedness. The class contains as special cases the classic Horvitz-Thompson estimator, as well as the other unbiased estimators in the literature of unconventional sampling, which can be traced back to Birnbaum and Sirken (1965). Our generalisation allows one to devise other unbiased estimators, thereby providing a potential of efficiency gains in applications. Illustrations are given for adaptive cluster sampling, line-intercept sampling and simulated graphs.

Design-unbiased statistical learning in survey sampling

Design-consistent model-assisted estimation has become the standard practice in survey sampling. However, a general theory is lacking so far, which allows one to incorporate modern machine-learning techniques that can lead to potentially much more powerful assisting models. We propose a subsampling Rao-Blackwell method, and develop a statistical learning theory for exactly design-unbiased estimation with the help of linear or non-linear prediction models. Our approach makes use of classic ideas from Statistical Science as well as the rapidly growing field of Machine Learning. Provided rich auxiliary information, it can yield considerable efficiency gains over standard linear model-assisted methods, while ensuring valid estimation for the given target population, which is robust against potential mis-specifications of the assisting model at the individual level.

Continuous phase transition and microstructure of charged AdS black hole with quintessence

Previously, the Maxwell equal-area law has been used to discuss the conditions satisfied by the phase transition of charged AdS black holes with cloud of string and quintessence, and it was concluded that black holes have phase transition similar to that of vdW system. The phase transition depends on the electric potential of the black hole and is not the one between a large black hole and a small black hole. On the basis of this result, we study the relation between the latent heat of the phase transition and the parameter of dark energy, and use the Landau continuous phase transition theory to discuss the critical phenomenon of the black hole with quintessence and give the critical exponent. By introducing the number density of the black hole molecules, some properties of the microstructure of black holes are studied in terms of a phase transition. It is found that the electric charge of the black hole and the normalization parameter related to the density of quintessence field play a key role in phase transition. By constructing the binary fluid model of the black hole molecules, we also discuss the microstructure of charged AdS black holes with a cloud of strings and quintessence.

Entropy of higher-dimensional topological dS black holes with nonlinear source

On the basis of the first law of black hole thermodynamics, we propose the concept of effective temperature of de Sitter (dS) black holes and conjecture that the effective temperature should be the temperature of the dS black holes when the Hawking radiation temperatures of the black hole horizon and the cosmological horizon are equal. Choosing different independent variables, we can find a differential equation satisfied by the entropy of the dS black hole. It is shown that the differential equation of entropy is independent of the choice of independent variables. From the differential equation, we get the entropy of dS black hole and other effective thermodynamic quantities. We also discuss the influence of several parameters on the effective thermodynamic quantities.

Phase Transition of the Horava-Lifshitz AdS black holes

Some ones have showed the first-order phase transition of the Horava-Lifshitz (HL) AdS black holes has unique characters from other AdS black holes. While the coexistence zone of the first-order phase transition was not exhibited. As well known the coexistence curve of a black hole carries a lot of information about black hole, which provides a powerful diagnostic of the thermodynamic properties on black hole. We study the first-order phase transition coexistence curves of the HL AdS black holes by the Maxwell's equal-area law, and give the boundary of two-phase coexistence zone. It is very interesting that the first-order phase transition point is determined by the pressure F on the surface of the HL AdS black hole's horizon, instead of only the pressure P (or the temperature T). This unique property distinguishes the HL AdS black hole from the other AdS black hole systems. Furthermore, this black hole system have the critical curves, and on which every point stands for a critical point.

Proxy expenditure weights for Consumer Price Index: Audit sampling inference for big data statistics

Purchase data from retail chains provide proxy measures of private household expenditure on items that are the most troublesome to collect in the traditional expenditure survey. Due to the sheer amount of proxy data, the bias due to coverage and selection errors completely dominates the variance. We develop tests for bias based on audit sampling, which makes use of available survey data that cannot be linked to the proxy data source at the individual level. However, audit sampling fails to yield a meaningful mean squared error estimate, because the sampling variance is too large compared to the bias of the big data estimate. We propose a novel accuracy measure that is applicable in such situations. This can provide a necessary part of the statistical argument for the uptake of big data source, in replacement of traditional survey sampling. An application to disaggregated food price index is used to demonstrate the proposed approach.

On two existing approaches to statistical analysis of social media data

Using social media data for statistical analysis of general population faces commonly two basic obstacles: firstly, social media data are collected for different objects than the population units of interest; secondly, the relevant measures are typically not available directly but need to be extracted by algorithms or machine learning techniques. In this paper we examine and summarise two existing approaches to statistical analysis based on social media data, which can be discerned in the literature. In the first approach, analysis is applied to the social media data that are organised around the objects directly observed in the data; in the second one, a different analysis is applied to a constructed pseudo survey dataset, aimed to transform the observed social media data to a set of units from the target population. We elaborate systematically the relevant data quality frameworks, exemplify their applications, and highlight some typical challenges associated with social media data.

Microstructure and continuous phase transition of RN-AdS black hole

As is well known that RN-AdS black hole has a phase transition which is similar to that of van der Waals system. The phase transition depends on the electric potential of the black hole and is not the one between a large black hole and a small black hole. On this basis, we introduce a new order parameter and use the Landau continuous phase transition theory to discuss the critical phenomenon of RN-AdS black hole and give the critical exponent. By constructing the binary fluid model of black hole molecules, we investigate the microstructure of black holes. Furthermore, by studying the effect of the spacetime scalar curvature on the phase transition, we find that the charged and uncharged molecules of black holes are with different microstructure red which is like fermion gas and boson gas.

Tests for price indices in a dynamic item universe

There is generally a need to deal with quality change and new goods in the consumer price index due to the underlying dynamic item universe. Traditionally axiomatic tests are defined for a fixed universe. We propose five tests explicitly formulated for a dynamic item universe, and motivate them both from the perspectives of a cost-of-goods index and a cost-of-living index. None of the indices satisfies all the tests at the same time, which are currently available for making use of scanner data that comprises the whole item universe. The set of tests provides a rigorous diagnostic for whether an index is completely appropriate in a dynamic item universe, as well as pointing towards the directions of possible remedies. We thus outline a large index family that potentially can satisfy all the tests.

On valid descriptive inference from non-probability sample

We examine the conditions under which descriptive inference can be based directly on the observed distribution in a non-probability sample, under both the super-population and quasi-randomisation modelling approaches. Review of existing estimation methods reveals that the traditional formulation of these conditions may be inadequate due to potential issues of under-coverage or heterogeneous mean beyond the assumed model. We formulate unifying conditions that are applicable to both type of modelling approaches. The difficulties of empirically validating the required conditions are discussed, as well as valid inference approaches using supplementary probability sampling. The key message is that probability sampling may still be necessary in some situations, in order to ensure the validity of descriptive inference, but it can be much less resource-demanding provided the presence of a big non-probability sample.

Minimal inference from incomplete 2x2-tables

Estimates based on 2x2 tables of frequencies are widely used in statistical applications. However, in many cases these tables are incomplete in the sense that the data required to compute the frequencies for a subset of the cells defining the table are unavailable. Minimal inference addresses those situations where this incompleteness leads to target parameters for these tables that are interval, rather than point, identifiable. In particular, we develop the concept of corroboration as a measure of the statistical evidence in the observed data that is not based on likelihoods. The corroboration function identifies the parameter values that are the hardest to refute, i.e., those values which, under repeated sampling, remain interval identified. This enables us to develop a general approach to inference from incomplete 2x2 tables when the additional assumptions required to support a likelihood-based approach cannot be sustained based on the data available. This minimal inference approach then provides a foundation for further analysis that aims at making sharper inference supported by plausible external beliefs.

Entropy of Higher Dimensional Charged Gauss-Bonnet Black hole in de Sitter Space

The fundamental equation of the thermodynamic system gives the relation between internal energy, entropy and volume of two adjacent equilibrium states. Taking higher dimensional charged Gauss-Bonnet black hole in de Sitter space as a thermodynamic system, the state parameters have to meet the fundamental equation of thermodynamics. We introduce the effective thermodynamic quantities to describe the black hole in de Sitter space. Considering that in the lukewarm case the temperature of the black hole horizon is equal to that of the cosmological horizon, the effective temperature of spacetime is the same, we conjecture that the effective temperature has the same value. In this way, we can obtain the entropy formula of spacetime by solving the differential equation. We find that the total entropy contain an extra terms besides the sum of the entropies of the two horizons. The corrected terms of the entropy is a function of horizon radius ratio, and is independent of the charge of the spacetime.
