Synergistic Interface Stability and High Room-Temperature Ionic Conductivity for Wide-Temperature All-Solid-State Batteries Based on Li6+xSixSb1-xS5I Electrolytes

Solid-state lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are increasingly recognized for their exceptional energy density and safety. However, their widespread adoption is challenged by persistent issues such as thermal and electrochemical instability, dendrite formation, and limited compatibility with high-voltage cathodes. Sulfide-based solid electrolytes (SEs), particularly iodide argyrodites, offer outstanding ionic conductivity and stability; however, their practical application is constrained by the formation of space-charge layers, slow ion transport, and susceptibility to dendrite penetration. To address these challenges, we synthesized a novel Li6.6Si0.6Sb0.4S5I argyrodite electrolyte via ball milling and heat treatment, achieving a remarkable room-temperature ionic conductivity of 9.9 mS cm^-1. The electrolyte was integrated with a LiNbO3-coated LiNi0.7Co0.1Mn0.2O2 cathode to form an all-solid-state battery, which demonstrated an initial discharge capacity of 171.2 mAh g^-1, retained 84.2% of its capacity after 200 cycles at 0.5C, and maintained stable cycling across a broad temperature range from -20 degrees C to 60 degrees C. Our study shows that tailored electrolyte composition and a composite cathode configuration significantly enhance cycling stability and improve interfacial protection. These findings highlight the potential of Si-doped antimony-type iodide argyrodites for next-generation high-performance all-solid-state batteries, offering durable operation under diverse thermal conditions.

Chemical tuning of magnetic ordering and cryogenic magnetocaloric response in zircon-type Gd1-xErxVO4

Chemical substitution offers an effective route to tune magnetic ordering and magnetocaloric performance in rare-earth oxides for cryogenic refrigeration. Here we investigate the structural evo lution, magnetic properties, and magnetocaloric effect of polycrystalline zircon-type Gd1-xErxVO4 (x=0, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75). Powder X-ray diffraction confirms that all samples crystallize in the tetragonal zircon structure without detectable impurity phases. Substitution of Gd3+ by the smaller Er3+ ion produces a systematic lattice contraction and modifies the magnetic behavior of the rare-earth sublattice. In particular, the magnetic ordering temperature is suppressed from 3.65(2) K in GdVO4 to 2.76(2) K in Gd0.9Er0.1VO4 , accompanied by a weakening of the spin-flop-like field-induced anomaly observed in the parent compound. A low Er concentration correspondingly improves the low-temperature magnetocaloric performance, with Gd0.9Er0.1VO4 exhibiting a max imum magnetic entropy change of 45.1 J kg-1 K-1 for mu_0 Delta H=7T. These results demonstrate that weak Er substitution effectively tunes the competition among exchange interactions, dipolar coupling, and magnetic anisotropy, optimizing the balance between magnetic ordering and available spin entropy in zircon-type rare-earth vanadates, which is crucial for developing efficient cryogenic refrigeration materials.

Asteroseismology study of a new faint ZZ Ceti J053009.62+594557.0 discovered in WFST

In this work, we present a detailed asteroseismological analysis of WFST J053009.62+594557.0, a newly discovered faint pulsating white dwarf by the Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) with a Gaia G magnitude of 19.13. Analysis of two nights of high-precision WFST g band photometry reveals three significant pulsation frequencies with high signal-to-noise ratios. Follow-up P200/DBSP spectroscopy classifies the object as a DA white dwarf with Teff=11,609 $\pm$ 605 K and M = 0.63$\pm$ 0.22 $M_{\odot}$. To probe its internal structure, we construct asteroseismological models with the White Dwarf Evolution Code (WDEC). After exploring sufficient matching models, best-fitting solutions yield Teff=11,850$\pm$ 10 K and M = 0.600 $\pm$ 0.005 $M_{\odot}$, consistent with independent constraints from Gaia color-magnitude diagram, Gaia XP spectrum, P200 spectral fitting, SED fitting, and Gaia parallax. It has shown that the asteroseismological distance agrees with the Gaia parallax to 1.45\%.

3D surface profiling via photonic integrated geometric sensor

Measurements of microscale surface patterns are essential for process and quality control in industries across semiconductors, micro-machining, and biomedicines. However, the development of miniaturized and intelligent profiling systems remains a longstanding challenge, primarily due to the complexity and bulkiness of existing benchtop systems required to scan large-area samples. A real-time, in-situ, and fast detection alternative is therefore highly desirable for predicting surface topography on the fly. In this paper, we present an ultracompact geometric profiler based on photonic integrated circuits, which directly encodes the optical reflectance of the sample and decodes it with a neural network. This platform is free of complex interferometric configurations and avoids time-consuming nonlinear fitting algorithms. We show that a silicon programmable circuit can generate pseudo-random kernels to project input data into higher dimensions, enabling efficient feature extraction via a lightweight one-dimensional convolutional neural network. Our device is capable of high-fidelity, fast-scanning-rate thickness identification for both smoothly varying samples and intricate 3D printed emblem structures, paving the way for a new class of compact geometric sensors.

DeepPlantCRE: A Transformer-CNN Hybrid Framework for Plant Gene Expression Modeling and Cross-Species Generalization

The investigation of plant transcriptional regulation constitutes a fundamental basis for crop breeding, where cis-regulatory elements (CREs), as the key factor determining gene expression, have become the focus of crop genetic improvement research. Deep learning techniques, leveraging their exceptional capacity for high-dimensional feature extraction and nonlinear regulatory relationship modeling, have been extensively employed in this field. However, current methodologies present notable limitations: single CNN-based architectures struggle to capture long-range regulatory interactions, while existing CNN-Transformer hybrid models demonstrate proneness to overfitting and inadequate generalization in cross-species prediction contexts. To address these challenges, this study proposes DeepPlantCRE, a deep-learning framework for plant gene expression prediction and CRE Extraction. The model employs a Transformer-CNN hybrid architecture that achieves enhanced Accuracy, AUC-ROC, and F1-score metrics over existing baselines (DeepCRE and PhytoExpr), with improved generalization performance and overfitting inhibiting. Cross-species validation experiments conducted on gene expression datasets from \textit{Gossypium}, \textit{Arabidopsis thaliana}, \textit{Solanum lycopersicum}, \textit{Sorghum bicolor}, and \textit{Arabidopsis thaliana} reveal that the model achieves peak prediction accuracy of 92.3\%, particularly excelling in complex genomic data analysis. Furthermore, interpretability investigations using DeepLIFT and Transcription Factor Motif Discovery from the importance scores algorithm (TF-MoDISco) demonstrate that the derived motifs from our model exhibit high concordance with known transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs) such as MYR2, TSO1 in JASPAR plant database, substantiating the potential of biological interpretability and practical agricultural application of DeepPlantCRE.

Optical Convolutional Spectrometer

Optical spectrometers are fundamental across numerous disciplines in science and technology. However, miniaturized versions, while essential for in situ measurements, are often restricted to coarse identification of signature peaks and inadequate for metrological purposes. Here, we introduce a new class of spectrometer, leveraging the convolution theorem as its mathematical foundation. Our convolutional spectrometer offers unmatched performance for miniaturized systems and distinct structural and computational simplicity, featuring a centimeter-scale footprint for the fully packaged unit, low cost (~$10) and a 2400 cm-1 (approximately 500 nm) bandwidth. We achieve excellent precision in resolving complex spectra with sub-second sampling and processing time, demonstrating a wide range of applications from industrial and agricultural analysis to healthcare monitoring. Specifically, our spectrometer system classifies diverse solid samples, including plastics, pharmaceuticals, coffee, flour and tea, with 100% success rate, and quantifies concentrations of aqueous and organic solutions with detection accuracy surpassing commercial benchtop spectrometers. We also realize the non-invasive sensing of human biomarkers, such as skin moisture (mean absolute error; MAE = 2.49%), blood alcohol (1.70 mg/dL), blood lactate (0.81 mmol/L), and blood glucose (0.36 mmol/L), highlighting the potential of this new class of spectrometers for low-cost, high-precision, portable/wearable spectral metrology.

Chip-scale sensor for spectroscopic metrology

Miniaturized spectrometers hold great promise for in situ, in vitro, and even in vivo sensing applications. However, their size reduction imposes vital performance constraints in meeting the rigorous demands of spectroscopy, including fine resolution, high accuracy, and ultra-wide observation window. The prevailing view in the community holds that miniaturized spectrometers are most suitable for the coarse identification of signature peaks. In this paper, we present an integrated reconstructive spectrometer that enables near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopic metrology, and demonstrate a fully packaged sensor with auxiliary electronics. Such a sensor operates over a 520 nm bandwidth together with a resolution of less than 8 pm, which translates into a record-breaking bandwidth-to-resolution ratio of over 65,000. The classification of different types of solid substances and the concentration measurement of aqueous and organic solutions are performed, all achieving approximately 100% accuracy. Notably, the detection limit of our sensor matches that of the commercial benchtop counterparts, which is as low as 0.1% (i.e. 100 mg/dL) for identifying the concentration of glucose solution.

Site-testing at Muztagh-ata site I: Ground Meteorology and Sky Brightness

Site-testing is crucial for achieving the goal of scientific research and analysis of meteorological and optical observing conditions is one of the basic tasks of it. As one of three potential sites to host 12-meter Large Optical/infrared Telescope (LOT), Muztagh-ata site which is located on the Pamirs Plateau in west China's Xinjiang began its site-testing task in the spring of 2017. In this paper, we firstly start with an introduction to the site and then present a statistical analysis of the ground-level meteorological properties such as air temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, recorded by automatic weather station with standard meteorological sensors for two-year long. We also show the monitoring results of sky brightness during this period.

Site-testing at Muztagh-ata site II: Seeing statistics

In this article, we present a detailed analysis of the statistical properties of seeing for the Muztagh-ata site which is the candidate site for hosting future Chinese Large Optical/infrared Telescope (LOT) project. The measurement was obtained with Differential Image Motion Monitor (DIMM) from April 2017 to November 2018 at different heights during different periods. The median seeing at 11 meters and 6 meters are very close but different significantly from that on the ground. We mainly analyzed the seeing at 11 meters monthly and hourly, having found that the best season for observing was from late autumn to early winter and seeing tended to improve during the night only in autumn. The analysis of the dependence on temperature inversion, wind speed, direction also was made and the best meteorological conditions for seeing is given.

Site testing campaign for the Large Optical/infrared Telescope of China: Overview

The Large Optical/infrared Telescope (LOT) is a ground-based 12m diameter optical/infrared telescope which is proposed to be built in the western part of China in the next decade. Based on satellite remote sensing data, along with geographical, logistical and political considerations, three candidate sites were chosen for ground-based astronomical performance monitoring. These sites include: Ali in Tibet, Daocheng in Sichuan, and Muztagh Ata in Xinjiang. Up until now, all three sites have continuously collected data for two years. In this paper, we will introduce this site testing campaign, and present its monitoring results obtained during the period between March 2017 and March 2019.

A Reverse Hierarchy Model for Predicting Eye Fixations

A number of psychological and physiological evidences suggest that early visual attention works in a coarse-to-fine way, which lays a basis for the reverse hierarchy theory (RHT). This theory states that attention propagates from the top level of the visual hierarchy that processes gist and abstract information of input, to the bottom level that processes local details. Inspired by the theory, we develop a computational model for saliency detection in images. First, the original image is downsampled to different scales to constitute a pyramid. Then, saliency on each layer is obtained by image super-resolution reconstruction from the layer above, which is defined as unpredictability from this coarse-to-fine reconstruction. Finally, saliency on each layer of the pyramid is fused into stochastic fixations through a probabilistic model, where attention initiates from the top layer and propagates downward through the pyramid. Extensive experiments on two standard eye-tracking datasets show that the proposed method can achieve competitive results with state-of-the-art models.
