Probing ultra-light dark photon from inverse Compton-like scattering

Dark photon not only provides a portal linking dark sector particles and ordinary matter but also is a well-motivated dark matter candidate. We propose to detect the dark photon dark matter through the inverse Compton-like scattering process $p+γ^\prime \to p+γ$. Thanks to the ultra-high energy primary cosmic rays, we find that such a method is able to probe the dark photon mass from $10^{-2}$ eV down to $10^{-19}$ eV with the expected sensitivity of eROSITA $X$-ray telescope, which can extend the current lower limit of dark photon mass from Jupiter's magnetic fields experiment by about three orders of magnitude.

Heavy Bino and Slepton for Muon g-2 Anomaly

In light of very recent E989 experimental result, we investigate the possibility that heavy sparticles explain the muon g-2 anomaly. We focus on the bino-smuon loop in an effective SUSY scenario, where a light gravitino plays the role of dark matter and other sparticles are heavy. Due to the enhancement of left-right mixing of smuons by heavy higgsinos, the contribution of bino-smuon loop can sizably increase the prediction of muon g-2 to the experimental value. Under collider and vacuum stability constraints, we find that TeV scale bino and smuon can still account for the new muon g-2 anomaly. The implications for LHC phenomenology are also discussed.

Nested sampling with plateaus

It was recently emphasised by Riley (2019); Schittenhelm & Wacker (2020) that that in the presence of plateaus in the likelihood function nested sampling (NS) produces faulty estimates of the evidence and posterior densities. After informally explaining the cause of the problem, we present a modified version of NS that handles plateaus and can be applied retrospectively to NS runs from popular NS software using anesthetic. In the modified NS, live points in a plateau are evicted one by one without replacement, with ordinary NS compression of the prior volume after each eviction but taking into account the dynamic number of live points. The live points are replenished once all points in the plateau are removed. We demonstrate it on a number of examples. Since the modification is simple, we propose that it becomes the canonical version of Skilling's NS algorithm.

Atmospheric Dark Matter and Xenon1T Excess

Very recently, the Xenon1T collaboration has reported an intriguing electron recoil excess, which may imply for light dark matter. In order to interpret this anomaly, we propose the atmospheric dark matter (ADM) from the inelastic collision of cosmic rays (CRs) with the atmosphere. Due to the boost effect of high energy CRs, we show that the light ADM can be fast-moving and successfully fit the observed electron recoil spectrum through the ADM-electron scattering process. Meanwhile, our ADM predicts the scattering cross section $σ_e \sim {\cal O}(10^{-38}- 10^{-39}$) cm$^{2}$, and thus can evade other direct detection constraints. The search for light meson rare decays, such as $η\to π+ \slashed E_T$, would provide a complementary probe of our ADM in the future.

Nested sampling cross-checks using order statistics

Nested sampling (NS) is an invaluable tool in data analysis in modern astrophysics, cosmology, gravitational wave astronomy and particle physics. We identify a previously unused property of NS related to order statistics: the insertion indexes of new live points into the existing live points should be uniformly distributed. This observation enabled us to create a novel cross-check of single NS runs. The tests can detect when an NS run failed to sample new live points from the constrained prior and plateaus in the likelihood function, which break an assumption of NS and thus leads to unreliable results. We applied our cross-check to NS runs on toy functions with known analytic results in 2 - 50 dimensions, showing that our approach can detect problematic runs on a variety of likelihoods, settings and dimensions. As an example of a realistic application, we cross-checked NS runs performed in the context of cosmological model selection. Since the cross-check is simple, we recommend that it become a mandatory test for every applicable NS run.

Studies on the $B \to κ\bar κ$ decays in the perturbative QCD approach

The $B \to κ\bar κ$ decays are investigated for the first time in the perturbative QCD formalism based on the $k_T$ factorization theorem, where the light scalar $κ$ is assumed as a two-quark state. Our numerical results and phenomenological analyses on the CP-averaged branching ratios and CP-violating asymmetries show that: (a) the $B_s^0 \to κ^+ κ^-$ and $B_s^0 \to κ^0 \bar κ^0$ decays have large decay rates around ${\cal O}(10^{-5})$, which could be examined by the upgraded Large Hadron Collider beauty and/or Belle-II experiments in the near future; (b) a large decay rate about $3 \times 10^{-6}$ appears in the pure annihilation $B_d^0 \to κ^+ κ^-$ channel, which could provide more evidences to help distinguish different QCD-inspired factorization approaches, even understand the annihilation decay mechanism; (c) the pure penguin modes $B_d^0 \to κ^0 \bar κ^0$ and $B_s^0 \to κ^0 \bar κ^0$ would provide a promising ground to search for the possible new physics because of their zero direct and mixing-induced CP violations in the standard model. The examinations with good precision from the future experiments will help to further study the perturbative and/or nonperturbative QCD dynamics involved in these considered decay modes.
