Flavor Physics at the CEPC: a General Perspective

We discuss the landscape of flavor physics at the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC), based on the nominal luminosity outlined in its Technical Design Report. The CEPC is designed to operate in multiple modes to address a variety of tasks. At the $Z$ pole, the expected production of 4 Tera $Z$ bosons will provide unique and highly precise measurements of $Z$ boson couplings, while the substantial number of boosted heavy-flavored quarks and leptons produced in clean $Z$ decays will facilitate investigations into their flavor physics with unprecedented precision. We investigate the prospects of measuring various physics benchmarks and discuss their implications for particle theories and phenomenological models. Our studies indicate that, with its highlighted advantages and anticipated excellent detector performance, the CEPC can explore beauty and $τ$ physics in ways that are superior to or complementary with the Belle II and Large-Hadron-Collider-beauty experiments, potentially enabling the detection of new physics at energy scales of 10 TeV and above. This potential also extends to the observation of yet-to-be-discovered rare and exotic processes, as well as testing fundamental principles such as lepton flavor universality, lepton and baryon number conservation, etc., making the CEPC a vibrant platform for flavor physics research. The $WW$ threshold scan, Higgs-factory operation and top-pair productions of the CEPC further enhance its merits in this regard, especially for measuring the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, and Flavor-Changing-Neutral-Current physics of Higgs boson and top quarks. We outline the requirements for detector performance and considerations for future development to achieve the anticipated scientific goals.

Charaterization of the first prototype IHEP-NDL LGAD sensor

The timing measurement of charged particles using silicon detector is widely used in synchrotron source as X-ray detectors, in time-of-flight mass spectrometer and especially in large collider experiment. To reduce the drastically event pile-up of high-luminosity large hadron collider (HL-LHC), a new concept of 4-dimension detector including timing and positon has been proposed. One of the candidates for the 4-dimension detector is a new kind of silicon detector called Low Gain Avalanche Diode (LGAD). In China, Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) Chinese Academic Science cooperated with Novel Device Laboratory (NDL) at Beijing Normal University have fabricated a series of LGAD sensors. The characterization of the first prototype of IHEP-NDL sensors is presented including leakage current and sensor capacitance measurement. A test system for the time resolution of jitter term using pico-second laser and fast sampling rate oscilloscope is also setup, and the time resolution of 10 ps can be achieved with these sensors.

Probing the top quark flavor-changing couplings at CEPC

We propose to study the flavor properties of the top quark at the future Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) in China. We systematically consider the full set of 56 real parameters that characterize the flavor-changing neutral interactions of the top quark, which can be tested at CEPC in the single top production channel. Compared with the current bounds from the LEP2 data and the projected limits at the high-luminosity LHC, we find that CEPC could improve the limits of the four-fermion flavor-changing coefficients by one to two orders of magnitude, and would also provide similar sensitivity for the two-fermion flavor-changing coefficients. Overall, CEPC could explore a large fraction of currently allowed parameter space that will not be covered by the LHC upgrade. We show that the $c$-jet tagging capacity at CEPC could further improve its sensitivity to top-charm flavor-changing couplings. If a signal is observed, the kinematic distribution as well as the $c$-jet tagging could be exploited to pinpoint the various flavor-changing couplings, providing valuable information about the flavor properties of the top quark.

Constraining the anomalous Higgs boson coupling in $H$+$γ$ production

Higgs boson production in association with a photon ($H$+$γ$) offers a promising channel to test the Higgs boson to photon coupling at various energy scales. Its potential sensitivity to anomalous couplings of the Higgs boson has not been explored with the proton-proton collision data. In this paper, we reinterpret the latest ATLAS $H$+$γ$ resonance search results within the Standard Model effective field theory (EFT) framework, using 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data recorded with the ATLAS detector at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. Constraints on the Wilson coefficients of dimension-six EFT operators related to the Higgs boson to photon coupling are provided for the first time in the $H$+$γ$ final state at the LHC.
