Blowup dynamics for smooth equivariant solutions to energy critical Landau-Lifschitz flow

In this paper, we study the energy critical 1-equivariant Landau-Lifschitz flow mapping $\mathbb{R}^2$ to $\mathbb{S}^2$ with arbitrary given coefficients $ρ_1\in \mathbb{R}$, $ρ_2>0$. We prove that there exists a codimension one smooth well-localized set of initial data arbitrarily close to the ground state which generates type-II finite-time blowup solutions, and give a precise description of the corresponding singularity formation. In our proof, both the Schrödinger part and the heat part play important roles in the construction of approximate solutions and the mixed energy/Morawetz functional. However, the blowup rate is independent of the coefficients.

Soliton resolution for the energy critical wave equation with inverse-square potential in the radial case

In this paper, we establish the soliton resolution for the energy critical wave equation with inverse square potential in the radial case and in all dimensions $N\geq3$. The structure of the radial linear operator $\mathcal{L}_a :=-Δ+\frac{a}{|x|^2}=A^*A$, is essential for the channel of energy, where $A$ is a first order differential operator and $A^*$ is its adjoint operator. Modulation and analysis of the multi-solitons are performed in the function spaces $\dot{H}^1_a(\Bbb R^N)\times L^2(\Bbb R^N)$ associated with $\mathcal{L}_a$.

Small data global regularity for 3-D Ericksen-Leslie's hyperbolic liquid crystal model without kinematic transport

In this article, we consider the Ericksen-Leslie's hyperbolic system for incompressible liquid crystal model without kinematic transport in three spatial dimensions, which is a nonlinear coupling of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with wave map to $\mathbb{S}^2$. Global regularity for small and smooth initial data near the equilibrium is proved. The proof relies on the idea of space-time resonance.

Solutions blowing up on any given compact set for the energy subcritical wave equation

We consider the focusing energy subcritical nonlinear wave equation $\partial_{tt} u - Δu= |u|^{p-1} u$ in ${\mathbb R}^N$, $N\ge 1$. Given any compact set $ E \subset {\mathbb R}^N $, we construct finite energy solutions which blow up at $t=0$ exactly on $ E$. The construction is based on an appropriate ansatz. The initial ansatz is simply $U_0(t,x) = κ(t + A(x) )^{ -\frac {2} {p-1} }$, where $A\ge 0$ vanishes exactly on $ E$, which is a solution of the ODE $h'' = h^p$. We refine this first ansatz inductively using only ODE techniques and taking advantage of the fact that (for suitably chosen $A$), space derivatives are negligible with respect to time derivatives. We complete the proof by an energy argument and a compactness method.

Solutions with prescribed local blow-up surface for the nonlinear wave equation

We prove that any sufficiently differentiable space-like hypersurface of ${\mathbb R}^{1+N} $ coincides locally around any of its points with the blow-up surface of a finite-energy solution of the focusing nonlinear wave equation $\partial_{tt} u - Δu=|u|^{p-1} u$ on ${\mathbb R} \times {\mathbb R} ^N$, for any $1\leq N\leq 4$ and $1 < p \le \frac {N+2} {N-2}$. We follow the strategy developed in our previous work [arXiv 1812.03949] on the construction of solutions of the nonlinear wave equation blowing up at any prescribed compact set. Here to prove blowup on a local space-like hypersurface, we first apply a change of variable to reduce the problem to blowup on a small ball at $t=0$ for a transformed equation. The construction of an appropriate approximate solution is then combined with an energy method for the existence of a solution of the transformed problem that blows up at $t=0$. To obtain a finite-energy solution of the original problem from trace arguments, we need to work with $H^2\times H^1$ solutions for the transformed problem.

Small data global regularity for simplified 3-D Ericksen-Leslie's compressible hyperbolic liquid crystal model

In this article, we consider the Ericksen-Leslie's hyperbolic system for compressible liquid crystal model in three spatial dimensions. Global regularity for small and smooth initial data near equilibrium is proved for the case that the system is a nonlinear coupling of compressible Navier-Stokes equations with wave map to $\mathbb{S}^2$. Our argument is a combination of vector field method and Fourier analysis. The main strategy to prove global regularity relies on an interplay between the control of high order energies and decay estimates, which is based on the idea inspired by the method of space-time resonances. In particular the different behaviors of the decay properties of the density and velocity field for compressible fluids at different frequencies play a key role.

Description and classification of 2-solitary waves for nonlinear damped Klein-Gordon equations

We describe completely 2-solitary waves related to the ground state of the nonlinear damped Klein-Gordon equation \begin{equation*} \partial_{tt}u+2α\partial_{t}u-Δu+u-|u|^{p-1}u=0 \end{equation*} on $\bf R^N$, for $1\leq N\leq 5$ and energy subcritical exponents $p>2$. The description is twofold. First, we prove that 2-solitary waves with same sign do not exist. Second, we construct and classify the full family of 2-solitary waves in the case of opposite signs. Close to the sum of two remote solitary waves, it turns out that only the components of the initial data in the unstable direction of each ground state are relevant in the large time asymptotic behavior of the solution. In particular, we show that $2$-solitary waves have a universal behavior: the distance between the solitary waves is asymptotic to $\log t$ as $t\to \infty$. This behavior is due to damping of the initial data combined with strong interactions between the solitary waves.

Asymptotic stability of harmonic maps between 2D hyperbolic spaces under the wave map equation. II. Small energy case

In this paper, we prove that the small energy harmonic maps from $\Bbb H^2$ to $\Bbb H^2$ are asymptotically stable under the wave map equation in the subcritical perturbation class. This result may be seen as an example supporting the soliton resolution conjecture for geometric wave equations without equivariant assumptions on the initial data. In this paper, we construct Tao's caloric gauge in the case when nontrivial harmonic map occurs. With the "dynamic separation" the master equation of the heat tension field appears as a semilinear magnetic wave equation. By the endpoint and weighted Strichartz estimates for magnetic wave equations obtained by the first author \cite{Lize1}, the asymptotic stability follows by a bootstrap argument.

Finite-time blowup for a Schrödinger equation with nonlinear source term

We consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ u_t = i Δu + | u |^αu \quad \mbox{on ${\mathbb R}^N $, $α>0$,} \] for $H^1$-subcritical or critical nonlinearities: $(N-2) α\le 4$. Under the additional technical assumptions $α\geq 2$ (and thus $N\leq 4$), we construct $H^1$ solutions that blow up in finite time with explicit blow-up profiles and blow-up rates. In particular, blowup can occur at any given finite set of points of ${\mathbb R}^N$. The construction involves explicit functions $U$, solutions of the ordinary differential equation $U_t=|U|^αU$. In the simplest case, $U(t,x)=(|x|^k-αt)^{-\frac 1α}$ for $t<0$, $x\in {\mathbb R}^N$. For $k$ sufficiently large, $U$ satisfies $|ΔU|\ll U_t$ close to the blow-up point $(t,x)=(0,0)$, so that it is a suitable approximate solution of the problem. To construct an actual solution $u$ close to $U$, we use energy estimates and a compactness argument.

Propagation of moments and uniqueness of weak solutions to the Vlasov-Poisson-Fokker-Planck system

In this paper, we prove the uniqueness of weak solutions to the Vlasov-Poisson-Fokker-Planck system in $C([0,T]; L^p)$, by assuming the solution has a local bounded density which tends to infinite with a "reasonable" rate as $t\to 0$. And particularly as a corollary, we get the uniqueness of weak solutions with initial data $f_0$ satisfying $f_0|v|^2\in L^1$, which solves the uniqueness of weak solutions with finite energy. In addition, we prove that the moments with respect to the velocity propagate for any order higher than 2.

Convergence to harmonic maps for the Landau-Lifshitz flows on two dimensional hyperbolic spaces

In this paper, we prove that the solution of the Landau-Lifshitz flow $u(t,x)$ from $\mathbb{H}^2$ to $\mathbb{H}^2$ converges to some harmonic map as $t\to\infty$. The essential observation is that although there exist infinite numbers of harmonic maps from $\Bbb H^2$ to $\Bbb H^2$, the heat flow initiated from $u(t,x)$ for any given $t>0$ converges to the same harmonic map as the heat flow initiated from $u(0,x)$. This observation enables us to construct a variant of Tao's caloric gauge to reduce the convergence to harmonic maps for the Landau-Lifshitz flow to the decay of the corresponding heat tension field. The advantage of the strategy used in this paper is that we can see the limit harmonic map directly by evolving $u(0,x)$ along a heat flow without evolving the Landau-Lifshitz flow to the infinite time.

On scattering for the cubic defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on waveguide $\mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{T}$

In this article, we will show the global wellposedness and scattering of the cubic defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on waveguide $\mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{T}$ in $H^1$. We first establish the linear profile decomposition in $H^{ 1}(\mathbb{R}^2 \times \mathbb{T})$ motivated by the linear profile decomposition of the mass-critical Schrödinger equation in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^2)$. Then by using the solution of the infinite dimensional vector-valued resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system to approximate the nonlinear profile, we can prove scattering in $H^1$ by using the concentration-compactness/rigidity method.

Equivariant Schrödinger maps from two dimensional hyperbolic space

In this article, we consider the equivariant Schrödinger map from $\Bbb H^2$ to $\Bbb S^2$ which converges to the north pole of $\Bbb S^2$ at the origin and spatial infinity of the hyperbolic space. If the energy of the data is less than $4π$, we show that the local existence of Schrödinger map. Furthermore, if the energy of the data sufficiently small, we prove the solutions are global in time.

Global well-posedness and scattering for mass-critical, defocusing, infinite dimensional vector-valued resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system

In this article, we consider the infinite dimensional vector-valued resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system, which arises from the study of the asymptotic behavior of the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on "wave guide" manifolds like $\mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{T}$ in [7]. We show global well-posedness and scattering for this system by long time Strichartz estimates and frequency localized interaction Morawetz estimates. As a by-product, our results make the arguments of scattering theory in [7] closed as crucial ingredients for compactness of the critical elements.

Decay and scattering of solutions to nonlinear Schrödinger equations with regular potentials for nonlinearities of sharp growth

In this paper, we prove the decay and scattering in the energy space for nonlinear Schrödinger equations with regular potentials in $\Bbb R^d$ namely, $i{\partial _t}u + Δu - V(x)u + λ|u|^{p - 1}u = 0$. We will prove decay estimate and scattering of the solution in the small data case when $1+\frac{2}{d}<p\le1+\frac{4}{d-2}$, $d\ge3$. The index $1+\frac{2}{d}$ is sharp for scattering concerning the result of W. Strauss [21].
