Two operator splitting methods for three-dimensional stochastic Maxwell equations with multiplicative noise

In this paper, we develop two energy-preserving splitting methods for solving three-dimensional stochastic Maxwell equations driven by multiplicative noise. We use operator splitting methods to decouple stochastic Maxwell equations into simple one-dimensional subsystems and construct two stochastic splitting methods, Splitting Method I and Splitting Method II, through a combination of spatial compact difference methods and the midpoint rule in time discretization for the deterministic parts, and exact unitary analytical solutions for the stochastic parts. Theoretical proofs show that both methods strictly preserve the discrete energy conservation law. Finally, numerical experiments fully verify the energy conservation of the methods and demonstrate that the temporal convergence order of the two splitting methods is first-order.

Stochastic positivity-preserving symplectic splitting methods for stochastic Lotka--Volterra predator-prey model

In this paper, we present two stochastic positive-preserving symplectic methods for the stochastic Lotka-Volterra predator-prey model driven by a multiplicative noise. To inherit the intrinsic characteristic of the original system, the stochastic Lie--Trotter splitting method and the stochastic Strang splitting method are introduced, which are proved to preserve the positivity of the numerical solution and possess the discrete stochastic symplectic conservation law as well. By deriving the uniform boundedness of the $p$-th moment of the numerical solution, we prove that the strong convergence orders of these two methods are both one in the $L^2(Ω)$-norm. Finally, we validate the theoretical results through two and four dimensional numerical examples.

Wiener chaos expansion for stochastic Maxwell equations driven by Wiener process

A novel and efficient algorithm based on the Wiener chaos expansion is proposed for the stochastic Maxwell equations driven by Wiener process. The proposed algorithm can reduce the original stochastic system to the deterministic case and separate the randomness in the computation. Therefore, it can yield a significant improvement of efficiency and lead to less computational errors compared to the Monte Carlo method, since the statistics of the solution can be solved directly without repeating over many realizations. In particular, the proposed algorithm could inherit the multi-symplecticity. Numerical experiments are dedicated to performing the efficiency and accuracy of the Wiener chaos expansion algorithm.

Parareal Algorithms for Stochastic Maxwell Equations Driven by Multiplicative Noise

This paper investigates the parareal algorithms for solving the stochastic Maxwell equations driven by multiplicative noise, focusing on their convergence, computational efficiency and numerical performance. The algorithms use the stochastic exponential integrator as the coarse propagator, while both the exact integrator and the stochastic exponential integrator are used as fine propagators. Theoretical analysis shows that the mean square convergence rates of the two algorithms selected above are proportional to $k/2$, depending on the iteration number of the algorithms. Numerical experiments validate these theoretical findings, demonstrating that larger iteration numbers $k$ improve convergence rates, while larger damping coefficients $σ$ accelerate the convergence of the algorithms. Furthermore, the algorithms maintain high accuracy and computational efficiency, highlighting their significant advantages over traditional exponential methods in long-term simulations.

Strong Approximation of Stochastic Semiclassical Schroedinger Equation with Multiplicative Noise

We consider the stochastic nonlinear Schroedinger equation driven by a multiplicative noise in a semiclassical regime, where the Plank constant is small. In this regime, the solution of the equation exhibits high-frequency oscillations. We design an efficient numerical method combining the spectral Galerkin approximation and the midpoint scheme. This accurately approximates the solution, or at least of the associated physical observables. Furthermore, the strong convergence rate for the proposed scheme is derived, which explicitly depends on the Planck constant. This conclusion implies the semiclassical regime's admissible meshing strategies for obtaining "correct" physical observables.

An overlapping domain decomposition splitting algorithm for stochastic nonlinear Schroedinger equation

A novel overlapping domain decomposition splitting algorithm based on a Crank-Nisolson method is developed for the stochastic nonlinear Schroedinger equation driven by a multiplicative noise with non-periodic boundary conditions. The proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the computational cost while maintaining the similar conservation laws. Numerical experiments are dedicated to illustrating the capability of the algorithm for different spatial dimensions, as well as the various initial conditions. In particular, we compare the performance of the overlapping domain decomposition splitting algorithm with the stochastic multi-symplectic method in [S. Jiang, L. Wang and J. Hong, Commun. Comput. Phys., 2013] and the finite difference splitting scheme in [J. Cui, J. Hong, Z. Liu and W. Zhou, J. Differ. Equ., 2019]. We observe that our proposed algorithm has excellent computational efficiency and is highly competitive. It provides a useful tool for solving stochastic partial differential equations.

Ergodic numerical approximations for stochastic Maxwell equations

In this paper, we propose a novel kind of numerical approximations to inherit the ergodicity of stochastic Maxwell equations. The key to proving the ergodicity lies in the uniform regularity estimates of the numerical solutions with respect to time, which are established by analyzing some important physical quantities. By introducing an auxiliary process, we show that the mean-square convergence order of the ergodic discontinuous Galerkin full discretization is $\frac{1}{2}$ in the temporal direction and $\frac{1}{2}$ in the spatial direction, which provides the convergence order of the numerical invariant measure to the exact one in $L^2$-Wasserstein distance.

Energy-preserving exponential integrable numerical method for stochastic cubic wave equation with additive noise

In this paper, we present an energy-preserving exponentially integrable numerical method for stochastic wave equation with cubic nonlinearity and additive noise. We first apply the spectral Galerkin method to discretizing the original equation and show that this spatial discretization possesses an energy evolution law and certain exponential integrability property. Then the exponential integrability property of the exact solution is deduced by proving the strong convergence of the semi-discretization. To propose a full discrete numerical method which could inherit both the energy evolution law and the exponential integrability, we use the splitting technique and averaged vector field method in the temporal direction. Combining these structure-preserving properties with regularity estimates of the exact and the numerical solutions, we obtain the strong convergence rate of the numerical method. Numerical experiments coincide with these theoretical results.

A new efficient operator splitting method for stochastic Maxwell equations

This paper proposes and analyzes a new operator splitting method for stochastic Maxwell equations driven by additive noise, which not only decomposes the original multi-dimensional system into some local one-dimensional subsystems, but also separates the deterministic and stochastic parts. This method is numerically efficient, and preserves the symplecticity, the multi-symplecticity as well as the growth rate of the averaged energy. A detailed $H^2$-regularity analysis of stochastic Maxwell equations is obtained, which is a crucial prerequisite of the error analysis. Under the regularity assumptions of the initial data and the noise, the convergence order one in mean square sense of the operator splitting method is established.

Runge-Kutta semidiscretizations for stochastic Maxwell equations with additive noise

The paper concerns semidiscretizations in time of stochastic Maxwell equations driven by additive noise. We show that the equations admit physical properties and mathematical structures, including regularity, energy and divergence evolution laws, and stochastic symplecticity, etc. In order to inherit the intrinsic properties of the original system, we introduce a general class of stochastic Runge-Kutta methods, and deduce the condition of symplecticity-preserving. By utilizing a priori estimates on numerical approximations and semigroup approach, we show that the methods, which are algebraically stable and coercive, are well-posed and convergent with order one in mean-square sense, which answers an open problem in [Chen and Hong, SIAM J. Numer. Anal., 2016] for stochastic Maxwell equations driven by additive noise.

Stochastic conformal multi-symplectic method for damped stochastic nonlinear Schrodinger equation

In this paper, we propose a stochastic conformal multi-symplectic method for a class of damped stochastic Hamiltonian partial differential equations in order to inherit the intrinsic properties, and apply the numerical method to solve a kind of damped stochastic nonlinear Schrodinger equation with multiplicative noise. It is shown that the stochastic conformal multi-symplectic method preserves the discrete stochastic conformal multi-symplectic conservation law, the discrete charge exponential dissipation law almost surely, and we also deduce the recurrence relation of the discrete global energy. Numerical experiments are preformed to verify the good performance of the proposed stochastic conformal multi-symplectic method, compared with a Crank-Nicolson type method. Finally, we present the mean square convergence result of the proposed numerical method in temporal direction numerically.

Mean-square convergence of a semi-discrete scheme for stochastic nonlinear Maxwell equations

In this paper, we propose a semi-implicit Euler scheme to discretize the stochastic nonlinear Maxwell equations with multiplicative Ito noise, which is implicit in the drift term and explicit in the diffusion term of the equations, in order to suited to Ito product. Uniform bounds with high regularities of solutions for both the continuous and the discrete problems are obtained, which are crucial properties to derive the mean-square convergence with certain order. Allowing sufficient spatial regularity and utilizing the energy estimate technique, the convergence order 1/2 in mean-square sense is obtained.

Stochastic multi-symplectic Runge-Kutta methods for stochastic Hamiltonian PDEs

In this paper, we consider stochastic Runge-Kutta methods for stochastic Hamiltonian partial differential equations and present some sufficient conditions for multisymplecticity of stochastic Runge-Kutta methods of stochastic Hamiltonian partial differential equations. Particularly, we apply these ideas to stochastic Maxwell equations with multiplicative noise, possessing the stochastic multi-symplectic conservation law and energy conservation law. Theoretical analysis shows that the methods can preserve both the discrete stochastic multi-symplectic conservation law and discrete energy conservation law almost surely.

Stochastic K-symplectic integrators for stochastic non-canonical Hamiltonian systems and applications to the Lotka--Volterra model

We give a theoretical framework of stochastic non-canonical Hamiltonian systems as well as their modified symplectic structure which is named stochastic K-symplectic structure. The framework can be applied to the study of the Lotka--Volterra model perturbed by external noises. In terms of internal properties of the stochastic Lotka--Volterra model, we propose different kinds of stochastic K-symplectic integrators which could inherit the positivity of the solution. The K-symplectic conditions are also obtained to ensure that the proposed schemes admit the same geometric structure as the original system. Besides, the first-order condition of the proposed schemes in $L^1(\Omega)$ sense are given based on the uniform boundedness of both the exact solution and the numerical one. Several numerical examples are illustrated to verify above properties of proposed schemes compared with non-K-symplectic ones.

Convergence in probability of an ergodic and conformal multi-symplectic numerical scheme for a damped stochastic NLS equation

In this paper, we investigate the convergence order in probability of a novel ergodic numerical scheme for damped stochastic nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equation with an additive noise. Theoretical analysis shows that our scheme is of order one in probability under appropriate assumptions for the initial value and noise. Meanwhile, we show that our scheme possesses the unique ergodicity and preserves the discrete conformal multi-symplectic conservation law. Numerical experiments are given to show the longtime behavior of the discrete charge and the time average of the numerical solution, and to test the convergence order, which verify our theoretical results.

Optimal Error Estimates of Conservative Local Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Nonlinear Schr\"odinger Equation

In this paper, we propose a conservative local discontinuous Galerkin method for one-dimensional nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation. By using special upwind-biased numerical fluxes, we establish the optimal rate of convergence $\mathcal O(h^{k+1})$, with polynomial of degree $k$ and grid size $h$. Meanwhile, we show that this method preserves the charge conservation law and thus we call it a conservative local discontinuous Galerkin method. Numerical experiments verify our theoretical result.

Mean-square Convergence of a Symplectic Local Discontinuous Galerkin Method Applied to Stochastic Linear Schroedinger Equation

In this paper, we investigate the mean-square convergence of a novel symplectic local discontinuous Galerkin method in L^2-norm for stochastic linear Schroedinger equation with multiplicative noise. It is shown that the mean-square error is bounded not only by the temporal and spatial step-sizes, but also by their ratio. The mean-square convergence rate with respect to the computational cost is derived under appropriate assumptions for initial data and noise. Meanwhile, we show that the method preserves the discrete charge conservation law which implies an L^2-stability
