Sparse Attention-driven Quality Prediction for Production Process Optimization in Digital Twins

In the process industry, long-term and efficient optimization of production lines requires real-time monitoring and analysis of operational states to fine-tune production line parameters. However, complexity in operational logic and intricate coupling of production process parameters make it difficult to develop an accurate mathematical model for the entire process, thus hindering the deployment of efficient optimization mechanisms. In view of these difficulties, we propose to deploy a digital twin of the production line by encoding its operational logic in a data-driven approach. By iteratively mapping the real-world data reflecting equipment operation status and product quality indicators in the digital twin, we adopt a quality prediction model for production process based on self-attention-enabled temporal convolutional neural networks. This model enables the data-driven state evolution of the digital twin. The digital twin takes a role of aggregating the information of actual operating conditions and the results of quality-sensitive analysis, which facilitates the optimization of process production with virtual-reality evolution. Leveraging the digital twin as an information-flow carrier, we extract temporal features from key process indicators and establish a production process quality prediction model based on the proposed deep neural network. Our operation experiments on a specific tobacco shredding line demonstrate that the proposed digital twin-based production process optimization method fosters seamless integration between virtual and real production lines. This integration achieves an average operating status prediction accuracy of over 98% and a product quality acceptance rate of over 96%.

Measurement of the earth tides with a diamagnetic-levitated micro-oscillator at room temperature

The precise measurement of the gravity of the earth plays a pivotal role in various fundamental research and application fields. Although a few gravimeters have been reported to achieve this goal, miniaturization of high-precision gravimetry remains a challenge. In this work, we have proposed and demonstrated a miniaturized gravimetry operating at room temperature based on a diamagnetic levitated micro-oscillator with a proof mass of only 215 mg. Compared with the latest reported miniaturized gravimeters based on Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems, the performance of our gravimetry has substantial improvements in that an acceleration sensitivity of 15 $μGal/\sqrt{Hz}$ and a drift as low as 61 $μGal$ per day have been reached. Based on this diamagnetic levitation gravimetry, we observed the earth tides, and the correlation coefficient between the experimental data and theoretical data reached 0.97. Some moderate foreseeable improvements can develop this diamagnetic levitation gravimetry into chip size device, making it suitable for mobile platforms such as drones. Our advancement in gravimetry is expected to facilitate a multitude of applications, including underground density surveying and the forecasting of natural hazards.

AcademicGPT: Empowering Academic Research

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated exceptional capabilities across various natural language processing tasks. Yet, many of these advanced LLMs are tailored for broad, general-purpose applications. In this technical report, we introduce AcademicGPT, designed specifically to empower academic research. AcademicGPT is a continual training model derived from LLaMA2-70B. Our training corpus mainly consists of academic papers, thesis, content from some academic domain, high-quality Chinese data and others. While it may not be extensive in data scale, AcademicGPT marks our initial venture into a domain-specific GPT tailored for research area. We evaluate AcademicGPT on several established public benchmarks such as MMLU and CEval, as well as on some specialized academic benchmarks like PubMedQA, SCIEval, and our newly-created ComputerScienceQA, to demonstrate its ability from general knowledge ability, to Chinese ability, and to academic ability. Building upon AcademicGPT's foundation model, we also developed several applications catered to the academic area, including General Academic Question Answering, AI-assisted Paper Reading, Paper Review, and AI-assisted Title and Abstract Generation.

Twisted DNA origami-based chiral monolayers for spin filtering

DNA monolayers with inherent chirality play a pivotal role across various domains, including biosensors, DNA chips, and bioelectronics. Nonetheless, conventional DNA chiral monolayers, typically constructed from single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) or double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), often lack structural orderliness and design flexibility at the interface. Structural DNA nanotechnology emerges as a promising solution to tackle these challenges. In this study, we present a strategy for crafting highly adaptable twisted DNA origami-based chiral monolayers. These structures exhibit distinct interfacial assembly characteristics and effectively mitigate the structural disorder of dsDNA monolayers, which is constrained by a limited persistence length of ~50 nm of dsDNA. We highlight the spin-filtering capabilities of four representative DNA origami-based chiral monolayers, demonstrating a maximal one-order-of-magnitude increase in spin-filtering efficiency per unit area compared to conventional dsDNA chiral monolayers. Intriguingly, our findings reveal that the higher-order, tertiary, chiral structure of twisted DNA origami further enhances the spin-filtering efficiency. This work paves the way for the rational design of DNA chiral monolayers.

Intelligent detect for substation insulator defects based on CenterMask

With the development of intelligent operation and maintenance of substations, the daily inspection of substations needs to process massive video and image data. This puts forward higher requirements on the processing speed and accuracy of defect detection. Based on the end-to-end learning paradigm, this paper proposes an intelligent detection method for substation insulator defects based on CenterMask. First, the backbone network VoVNet is improved according to the residual connection and eSE module, which effectively solves the problems of deep network saturation and gradient information loss. On this basis, an insulator mask generation method based on a spatial attentiondirected mechanism is proposed. Insulators with complex image backgrounds are accurately segmented. Then, three strategies of pixel-wise regression prediction, multi-scale features and centerness are introduced. The anchor-free single-stage target detector accurately locates the defect points of insulators. Finally, an example analysis is carried out with the substation inspection image of a power supply company in a certain area to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

Distributed Spatio-Temporal Information Based Cooperative 3D Positioning in GNSS-Denied Environments

A distributed spatio-temporal information based cooperative positioning (STICP) algorithm is proposed for wireless networks that require three-dimensional (3D) coordinates and operate in the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) denied environments. Our algorithm supports any type of ranging measurements that can determine the distance between nodes. We first utilize a finite symmetric sampling based scaled unscented transform (SUT) method for approximating the nonlinear terms of the messages passing on the associated factor graph (FG) with high precision, despite relying on a small number of samples. Then, we propose an enhanced anchor upgrading mechanism to avoid any redundant iterations. Our simulation results and analysis show that the proposed STICP has a lower computational complexity than the state-of-the-art belief propagation based localizer, despite achieving an even more competitive positioning performance.

Gapless and Massive 1D Singlet Dispersion Channel in Infinite Spin-1/2 Ladders ---Infinite Quasi-1D Entanglement Perturbation Theory for Excitation

We solve for the elementary excitation in infinite quasi-1D quantum lattices by extending the recently developed infinite quasi-1D entanglement perturbation theory. The wave function of an excited state is variationally determined by optimizing superposition of cluster operation, each of which is composed of simultaneous on-site operation inside a block of lattice sites, on the ground state in a form of plane wave. The excitation energy with respect to the wave number gives the spectra for an elementary excitation. Our method is artificial broadening free and is adaptive for various quasi-particle pictures. Using the triplet spectrum, the application to $\infty$-by-$N$ antiferromagnetic spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ ladders for $N=2, 4, 6, 8$, and $10$ confirms a previous report that there is a quantum dimensional transition, namely, the lattice transits from quasi-1D to 2D at a finite critical value $N_c=10$. The massless triplet dispersion at $\left( π, π\right)$ sees a vanishing gap. Our results detect the anomaly at $\left(π,0\right)$ in the triplet spectrum, agreeing well with the inelastic neutron scattering measurement of a macroscopic sample. Surprisingly, our results also reveal a gapless and massive 1D singlet dispersion channel that is much lower than the triplet excitation. We note, however, the dimensional transition is determined by the massless triplet dispersion.

Supra-Binary Ferroelectricity in a Nanowire

We report the prediction and observation of supra-binary ferroelectricity in a ferroelectric nanowire (FNW) covered with a semi-cylindrical gate that provides an anisotropic electric field in the FNW. There are gate-voltage-driven transitions between four polarization phases in FNW's cross section, dubbed axial-up, axial-down, radial-in and radial-out. They are determined by the interplay between the topological depolarization energy and the free energy induced by an anisotropic external electric field, in clear distinction from the conventional film-based binary ferroelectricity. When the FNW is mounted on a biased graphene nanoribbon (GNR), these transitions induce exotic current-voltage hysteresis in the FNW-GNR transistor. Our discovery suggests new operating mechanisms of ferroelectric devices. In particular, it enables intrinsic multi-bit information manipulation in parallel to the binary manipulation employed in data storage devices.

Electrically Tunable Wafer-Sized Three-Dimensional Topological Insulator Thin Films Grown by Magnetron Sputtering

Three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators (TIs) are candidate materials for various electronic and spintronic devices due to their strong spin-orbit coupling and unique surface electronic structure. Rapid, low-cost preparation of large-area TI thin films compatible with conventional semiconductor technology is key to the practical applications of TIs. Here, we show that wafer-sized Bi2Te3 family TI and magnetic TI films with decent quality and well-controlled composition and properties can be prepared on amorphous SiO2/Si substrates by magnetron cosputtering. The SiO2/Si substrates enable us to electrically tune (Bi1-xSbx)2Te3 and Cr-doped (Bi1-xSbx)2Te3 TI films between p-type and n-type behavior and thus study the phenomena associated with topological surface states, such as the quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE). This work significantly facilitates the fabrication of TI-based devices for electronic and spintronic applications.

Quantum Dimensional Transition in Spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Model on A Square Lattice and Space Reduction in Matrix Product State

We study the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on an infinity-by-$N$ square lattice for even $N$'s up to $14$. Previously, the nonlinear sigma model perturbatively predicts that its spin rotational symmetry asymptotically breaks when $N\rightarrow \infty$, i.e., when it is two-dimensional (2D). However, we identified a critical width $N_c = 10$ for which this symmetry breaks spontaneously. It defines a dimensional transition from one-dimension (1D) including quasi-1D to 2D. The finite-size effect differs from that of the $N$-by-$N$ lattice. The ground state (GS) energy per site approaches the thermodynamic limit value, in agreement with the previously accepted value, by one order of $1/N$ faster than when using $N$-by-$N$ lattices in the literature. We build and variationally solve a matrix product state (MPS) on a chain, converting the $N$ sites in the rung into an effective site. We show that the area law of entanglement entropy does not apply when $N$ increases in our method, and show that the reduced density matrix of each effective site will have a saturating number of dominant diagonal elements with increasing $N$. These two characteristics make the MPS rank needed to obtain a demanded energy accuracy quickly saturate when $N$ is large, making our algorithm efficient for large $N$'s. And, the latter enables space reduction in MPS. Within the framework of MPS, we prove a theorem that the spin-spin correlation at infinite separation is the square of staggered magnetization and demonstrate that the eigenvalue structure of a building MPS unit of $\langle g\mid g\rangle$, $\mid g\rangle$ being the GS, is responsible for order, disorder and quasi-long-range order.

Space Reduction in Matrix Product State

We reconstruct a matrix product state (MPS) in reduced spaces using density matrix. This scheme applies to a MPS built on a blocked quantum lattice. Each block contains $N$ physical sites that have a local space of rank $R$. The simulation in the original spaces of rank $R^N$ is used to construct density matrices for every block. They are diagonalized and only the eigenvectors corresponding to significant diagonal elements are used to transform the original spaces to smaller ones and to reconstruct the MPS in those smaller spaces accordingly. Simulations in the reduced spaces are used to reliably extrapolate the result in unreduced spaces. Moreover, to obtain a required accuracy, the ratio of the reduced space rank over the original decreases quickly with $N$. The reduced space has a saturated rank to obtain a demanded accuracy when $N\rightarrow \infty$.

A Binary Data Stream Scripting Language

Any file is fundamentally a binary data stream. A practical solution was achieved to interpret binary data stream. A new scripting language named Data Format Scripting Language (DFSL) was developed to describe the physical layout of the data in a structural, more intelligible way. On the basis of the solution, a generic software application was implemented; it parses various binary data streams according to their respective DFSL scripts and generates human-readable result and XML document for data sharing. Our solution helps eliminate the error-prone low-level programming, especially in the hardware devices or network protocol development/debugging processes.

Measuring the universal synchronization properties of coupled oscillators across the Hopf instability

When a driven oscillator loses phase-locking to a master oscillator via a Hopf bifurcation, it enters a bounded-phase regime in which its average frequency is still equal to the master frequency, but its phase displays temporal oscillations. Here we characterize these two synchronization regimes in a laser experiment, by measuring the spectrum of the phase fluctuations across the bifurcation. We find experimentally, and confirm numerically, that the low frequency phase noise of the driven oscillator is strongly suppressed in both regimes in the same way. Thus the long-term phase stability of the master oscillator is transferred to the driven one, even in the absence of phase-locking. The numerical study of a generic, minimal model suggests that such behavior is universal for any periodically driven oscillator near a Hopf bifurcation point.

Temperature-driven evolution of hierarchical nanodomain structure in tetragonal-like BiFeO3 films

Transmission electron microscopy study of tetragonal-like BiFeO3 films reveals a hitherto unreported hierarchical nanodomain structure. The 30-50 nm wide stripe domains with {110} domain walls consist of a substructure of lamellar nanodomains of 8-10 nm width in a herringbone-like arrangement. In situ heating and cooling reveals a reversible transition from the hierarchical nanodomain structure to a tweed-like domain structure which is accompanied by a first-order phase transition near 120 °C with a thermal hysteresis.

Entanglement Perturbation Theory for Infinite Quasi-1D Quantum Systems

We develop Entanglement Perturbation Theory (EPT) for infinite Quasi-1D quantum systems. The spin 1/2 Heisenberg chain with ferromagnetic nearest neighbor (NN) and antiferromagnetic next nearest neighbor (NNN) interactions with an easy-plane anisotropy is studied as a prototypical system. The obtained accurate phase diagram is compared with a recent prediction [Phys.Rev.B,81,094430(2010)] that dimer and Neel orders appear alternately as the XXZ anisotropy Delta approaches the isotropic limit Delta=1. The first and second transitions (across dimer, Neel, and dimer phases) are detected with improved accuracy at Delta\approx 0.722 and 0.930. The third transition (from dimer to Neel phases), previously predicted to be at Delta\approx 0.98, is not detected at this Delta in our method, raising the possibility that the second Neel phase is absent.

A novel nonlinear spin wave theory for the spin 1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice

We extend the nonlinear spin wave theory (NLSWT) for the spin 1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice (TAFHM). This novel NLSWT considers the corrections one order higher in 1/S than the linear spin wave theory (LSWT). It also distinguishes in which circumstance the negative energy excitation, the sign of the breakdown of LSWT, shall be renormalized to be positive both by a boson normal ordering and a self-consistent iteration. We draw a phase diagram by testing the stability of various magnetic orders for different parameters. In particular, the incommensurate configuration is found unstable by our study. The new phase transition point (PTP) of the collinear configuration agrees well with various previous studies.

Entanglement Perturbation Theory for Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Spin Chains

A recently developed numerical method, entanglement perturbation theory (EPT), is used to study the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chains with z-axis anisotropy $λ$ and magnetic field B. To demonstrate the accuracy, we first apply EPT to the isotropic spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model, and find that EPT successfully reproduces the exact Bethe Ansatz results for the ground state energy, the local magnetization, and the spin correlation functions (Bethe ansatz result is available for the first 7 lattice separations). In particular, EPT confirms for the first time the asymptotic behavior of the spin correlation functions predicted by the conformal field theory, which realizes only for lattice separations larger than 1000. Next, turning on the z-axis anisotropy and the magnetic field, the 2-spin and 4-spin correlation functions are calculated, and the results are compared with those obtained by Bosonization and density matrix renormalization group methods. Finally, for the spin-1 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model, the ground state phase diagram in $λ$ space is determined with help of the Roomany-Wyld RG finite-size-scaling. The results are in good agreement with those obtained by the level-spectroscopy method.
