Partition division maps, symmetric functions and positivity

We study a linear map on symmetric functions that ``divides'' a partition by a positive integer $k$, sending a Schur function indexed by a partition of $kn$ to a symmetric function indexed by partitions of $n$. We determine its Schur expansion explicitly for Schur and skew Schur functions, showing that the coefficients are enumerated by a new family of combinatorial objects, called $k$-Yamanouchi tableaux, which generalize the classical ballot (Yamanouchi) tableaux appearing in the Littlewood--Richardson rule. We also study the images of elementary symmetric functions under this map, derive the power-sum expansion of their $\omega$-images, and establish power-sum positivity. A further application establishes a connection to work of Tewodros Amdeberhan, John Shareshian, and Richard Stanley on alternating permutations and Euler numbers.

Symmetric statistics on rational Dyck paths

Rational Dyck paths are the rational generalization of classical Dyck paths. They play an important role in Catalan combinatorics, and have multiple applications in algebra and geometry. Two statistics over rational Dyck paths called run and ratio-run are introduced. They both have symmetric joint distributions with the return statistic. We give combinatorial proofs and algebraic proofs of the symmetries, generalizing a result of Li and Lin.

Primitive decompositions of idempotents of the group algebras of dihedral groups and generalized quaternion groups

In this paper, we introduce a method computing the primitive decomposition of idempotents of any semisimple finite group algebra based on its matrix representations and Wedderburn decomposition. Particularly, we use this method to calculate the examples of the dihedral group algebras $\mathbb{C}[D_{2n}]$ and generalized quaternion group algebras $\mathbb{C}[Q_{4m}]$. Inspired by the orthogonality relations of the character tables of these two families of groups, we obtain two sets of trigonometric identities. Furthermore, a group algebra isomorphism between $\mathbb{C}[D_{8}]$ and $\mathbb{C}[Q_{8}]$ is described, under which the two complete sets of primitive orthogonal idempotents of these two group algebras we find correspond to each other bijectively.
