Electron-beam Writing of Spectrally Uniform Green Single-photon Emitters in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

Scalable quantum photonic technologies require single-photon emitters whose positions and emission energies can be engineered simultaneously. Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is an attractive room-temperature host, but deterministic creation of spectrally reproducible emitters remains challenging. Here, we use a standard scanning electron microscope as a direct-writing tool to activate bright green single-photon emitters in hBN at predefined sites, without ion implantation or post-fabrication thermal annealing. The written emitters exhibit reproducible zero-phonon-line emission centered near 536 nm, room-temperature antibunching with g(2)(0) as low as 0.08, high brightness, strong linear polarization, and stable emission. Thickness-dependent activation, stacking experiments, cathodoluminescence spectroscopy, and first-principles calculations support a carbon-related defect complex as the most plausible origin of the emission. As a proof of nanophotonic compatibility, we further activate emitters in a nanoparticle-on-mirror plasmonic nanocavity and observe photoluminescence enhancement accompanied by shortened emission lifetimes. These results establish electron-beam direct writing as a practical route to site-selective, spectrally uniform green quantum emitters in hBN, offering a promising basis for integrated room-temperature quantum photonic architectures.

High-energy electronic excitations in La3Ni2O7 by time-resolved optical spectroscopy

Recently, high-temperature superconductivity has been established in bilayer La3Ni2O7, which exhibits a density-wave (DW) transition at ~ 150 K under ambient pressure. The DW order is believed to be linked to superconductivity, as it is suppressed upon the emergence of superconductivity at high pressures. Here, we explore the ultrafast dynamics of high-energy electronic excitations from 10 K to room temperature under ambient pressure using time-resolved optical spectroscopy. Two high-energy electronic excitations at ~1.8 and ~ 2.4 eV, arising from distinct interband transitions, are identified. They exhibit different DW gaps of approximately 54 and 67 meV, respectively, along with relaxation dynamics that can be well described by the Rothwarf-Taylor model. In addition, we observe four coherent Raman-active phonon modes that exhibit distinct coupling with different electronic excitations. The phonon softening with increasing temperature can be well described between ~100 K and room temperature by a semi-quantitative model, which includes thermal expansion and anharmonic phonon-phonon coupling. At cryogenic temperatures, deviations from the measured temperature-dependent phonon frequencies and the model fits suggest an additional contribution from electron-phonon coupling. Our study provides direct evidence of the complex gap structure and phonon dynamics in this material, offering critical insights into the DW mechanism and many-body effects.

A power-in-bucket model enabled designs of nanostructure-enhanced waveguides for highly efficient wide-angle light couplings

Well-designed nanostructures on fiber facets can boost wide-angle light coupling and thus gain considerable attention because of the potential for intensive applications. However, previous theories commonly concentrate on the configurations of the bare waveguide, lacking full consideration of structure-assisted couplings. Here, a power-in-bucket (PIB) model is introduced to explore the coupling behavior of structure-modified waveguides. The analytical model investigates two representative coupling scenarios, including Gaussian beam and plane wave excitation. The PIB-computed coefficient {\eta} enhancements agree well with the experimental values, especially for the multiple-mode fibers under large-angle illuminations. Using PIB to optimize the beam-fiber parameters, we show that at the incidence angle of 37 degree, {\eta} could increase from 0.3320 to 0.5102 by the identical ring gratings. Overall, the proposed model provides a useful account of the mechanism of grating-aided light couplings. These findings would be of great help in designing structure-enhanced probes for wide-angle broadband light collection applications.

Unraveling the Corrosion Mechanism of Boro-Alumino-Phospho-Silicate Glass: Advanced Insights from Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy

Corrosion mechanism of minerals and glass is a critical study domain in geology and materials science, vital for comprehending material durability under various environmental conditions. Despite decades of extensive study, a core aspect of these mechanisms - specifically, the formation of amorphous alteration layers upon exposure to aqueous environments - remains controversial. In this study, the corrosion behavior of a boro-alumino-phospho-silicate glass (BAPS) was investigated using advanced solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR) and SEM techniques. The results reveal a uniform nanoscale phase separation into Al-P-rich and Al-Si-rich domains. During corrosion, the Al-P-rich domain undergoes gelation, whereas the Al-Si-rich domain remains vitreous, forming a gel layer comprised of both phases. Although SEM images show a sharp gel/glass interface - suggestive of a dissolution-precipitation mechanism - the phase coexistence within the gel layer provides definitive evidence against such a mechanism. Instead, we propose an in situ transformation mechanism governed by chemical reactions, involving: (i) preferential hydrolysis of Al-P-rich domain leading to porous gel regions; (ii) retention of Al-Si glass domains within the gel layer, with water infiltrating inter-network spaces; and (iii) selective leaching of phosphorus over aluminum, leading to reorganization of the gel network.

Impact of genetic polymorphisms on tacrolimus concentrations and intra-individual variability in recipients of heart transplants during the early post-heart transplantation period

This study aimed to investigate the effects of genetic polymorphisms on tacrolimus blood levels and intra-individual variability in recipients of heart transplants during the early post-transplantation period. Demographic information, concomitant medications, daily tacrolimus dose, trough concentration, and physiological and biochemical information of 87 Chinese recipients of heart transplants were collected. Trough concentrations were determined using a chemiluminescent micro-particle immunoassay, and 17 selected single nucleic acid polymorphisms were genotyped by direct sequencing. We assessed intra-individual variability by calculating the coefficient of variation of tacrolimus trough concentration and analyzed factors associated with tacrolimus concentration and intra-individual variability. Our study found that low body weight and a high percentage of neutrophils significantly influenced the coefficient of variation of tacrolimus. CYP3A5*1D and CYP3A7 rs776744 haplotypes correlated significantly with an intra-individual coefficient of variation of tacrolimus trough concentration during the early postoperative period. Patients with the CYP3A5*1D rs15524 and CYP3A7 rs776744 TT haplotype had a higher coefficient of variation than carriers of the C allele. Genetic polymorphisms in recipients of heart transplants affect tacrolimus metabolism, significantly affecting tacrolimus blood concentration during the early postoperative period. Genotyping before drug administration can help optimize dosing regimens, reduce intra-individual variability, and improve prognosis.

Temperature-Dependent Group Delay of Photonic-Bandgap Hollow-Core Fiber Tuned by Surface-Mode Coupling

Surface modes (SM) are highly spatially localized modes existing at the core-cladding interface of photonic-bandgap hollow-core fiber (PBG-HCF). When coupling with SM, the air modes (AM) in the core would suffer a higher loss despite being spectrally within the cladding photonic bandgap, and would be highly dispersive around the avoided crossing (anti-crossing) wavelength. In this paper, we numerically demonstrate that such avoided crossings can play an important role in the tuning of the temperature dependence of group delay of AM of PBG-HCF. At higher temperatures, both the thermal-optic effect and thermal expansion contribute to the redshift of avoided crossing wavelength, giving rise to a temperature dependence of the AM dispersion. Numerical simulations show that the redshift of avoided crossing can significantly tune the thermal coefficient of delay (TCD) of PBG-HCF from -400 ps/km/K to 400 ps/km/K, approximately -120 ppm/K to 120 ppm/K. In comparison with the known tuning mechanism by the thermal-induced redshift of photonic bandgap [Fokoua et al., Optica 4, 659, 2017], the tuning of TCD by SM coupling presents a much broader tuning range and higher efficiency. Our finding would provide a new route to design PBG-HCF for propagation time sensitive applications.

Nonlinear optical response spatial self-hase modulation in MoTe2: correlations between \c{hi}(3) and mobility or effective mass

We report an unambiguous observation of third-order nonlinear optical effect, spatial self-phase modulation (SSPM), in a MoTe2 dispersion. The values of the third order nonlinear optical coefficients effectively for one layer MoTe2, \c{hi}(3)one-layer, are obtained through the SSPM method at excitation wavelengths 473, 532, 750 and 801 nm, respectively. The wind-chime model is used to explain the ring formation time. The wavelength dependence of \c{hi}(3)one-layer compares well with the photo-absorption spectra. Significantly, we find a correlation between \c{hi}(3) and the carrier mobility μ or effective mass m*, which again further supports the laser-induced ac electron coherence in 2D materials.

A fast exact simulation method for a class of Markov jump processes

A new method of the stochastic simulation algorithm (SSA), named the Hashing-Leaping method (HLM), for exact simulations of a class of Markov jump processes, is presented in this paper. The HLM has a conditional constant computational cost per event, which is independent of the number of exponential clocks in the Markov process. The main idea of the HLM is to repeatedly implement a hash-table-like bucket sort algorithm for all times of occurrence covered by a time step with length $\tau$. This paper serves as an introduction to this new SSA method. We introduce the method, demonstrate its implementation, analyze its properties, and compare its performance with three other commonly used SSA methods in four examples. Our performance tests and CPU operation statistics show certain advantage of the HLM for large scale problems.

On Potentially 3-regular graph graphic Sequences

For given a graph $H$, a graphic sequence $π=(d_1,d_2,...,d_n)$ is said to be potentially $H$-graphic if there exists a realization of $π$ containing $H$ as a subgraph. In this paper, we characterize the potentially $H$-graphic sequences where $H$ denotes 3-regular graph with 6 vertices. In other words, we characterize the potentially $K_{3,3}$ and $K_6-C_6$-graphic sequences where $K_{r,r}$ is an $r\times r$ complete bipartite graph. One of these characterizations implies a theorem due to Yin [25].

An Extremal Problem On Potentially $K_{r+1}-H$-graphic Sequences

Let $K_k$, $C_k$, $T_k$, and $P_{k}$ denote a complete graph on $k$ vertices, a cycle on $k$ vertices, a tree on $k+1$ vertices, and a path on $k+1$ vertices, respectively. Let $K_{m}-H$ be the graph obtained from $K_{m}$ by removing the edges set $E(H)$ of the graph $H$ ($H$ is a subgraph of $K_{m}$). A sequence $S$ is potentially $K_{m}-H$-graphical if it has a realization containing a $K_{m}-H$ as a subgraph. Let $σ(K_{m}-H, n)$ denote the smallest degree sum such that every $n$-term graphical sequence $S$ with $σ(S)\geq σ(K_{m}-H, n)$ is potentially $K_{m}-H$-graphical. In this paper, we determine the values of $σ(K_{r+1}-H, n)$ for $n\geq 4r+10, r\geq 3, r+1 \geq k \geq 4$ where $H$ is a graph on $k$ vertices which contains a tree on 4 vertices but not contains a cycle on 3 vertices. We also determine the values of $σ(K_{r+1}-P_2, n)$ for $n\geq 4r+8, r\geq 3$. There are a number of graphs on $k$ vertices which containing a tree on 4 vertices but not containing a cycle on 3 vertices (for example, the cycle on $k$ vertices, the tree on $k$ vertices, and the complete 2-partite graph on $k$ vertices, etc).

Potentially $K_{m}-G$-graphical Sequences: A Survey

The set of all non-increasing nonnegative integers sequence $π=$ ($d(v_1),$ $d(v_2),$ $...,$ $d(v_n)$) is denoted by $NS_n$. A sequence $π\in NS_n$ is said to be graphic if it is the degree sequence of a simple graph $G$ on $n$ vertices, and such a graph $G$ is called a realization of $π$. The set of all graphic sequences in $NS_n$ is denoted by $GS_n$. A graphical sequence $π$ is potentially $H$-graphical if there is a realization of $π$ containing $H$ as a subgraph, while $π$ is forcibly $H$-graphical if every realization of $π$ contains $H$ as a subgraph. Let $K_k$ denote a complete graph on $k$ vertices. Let $K_{m}-H$ be the graph obtained from $K_{m}$ by removing the edges set $E(H)$ of the graph $H$ ($H$ is a subgraph of $K_{m}$). This paper summarizes briefly some recent results on potentially $K_{m}-G$-graphic sequences and give a useful classification for determining $σ(H,n)$.
