Effect of directionality on extreme wave formation during nonlinear shoaling

Recent studies have shown that, in coastal waters where water depth decreases significantly due to rapid bathymetric changes, the non-equilibrium dynamics (NED) substantially increases the occurrence probability of extreme (rogue) waves. Nevertheless, research on depth-induced NED has been predominantly confined to unidirectional irregular waves, while the role of directionality remains largely unexplored. The scarce studies on multidirectional waves mainly rely on numerical simulations and have yielded conflicting results. In this work, we report on an experimental investigation of wave directionality on the depth-induced non-equilibrium wave statistics. High-order statistical moments, skewness and kurtosis, are used as proxies for the non-equilibrium wave response. Our results indicate that the directional spreading has a minor effect on decreasing the maximum values of these statistical moments. In contrast, the incidence direction plays a significant role in the non-equilibrium wave response, which is attributed to the effective bottom slope.

AR Visualization System for Ship Detection and Recognition Based on AI

Augmented reality technology has been widely used in industrial design interaction, exhibition guide, information retrieval and other fields. The combination of artificial intelligence and augmented reality technology has also become a future development trend. This project is an AR visualization system for ship detection and recognition based on AI, which mainly includes three parts: artificial intelligence module, Unity development module and Hololens2AR module. This project is based on R3Det algorithm to complete the detection and recognition of ships in remote sensing images. The recognition rate of model detection trained on RTX 2080Ti can reach 96%. Then, the 3D model of the ship is obtained by ship categories and information and generated in the virtual scene. At the same time, voice module and UI interaction module are added. Finally, we completed the deployment of the project on Hololens2 through MRTK. The system realizes the fusion of computer vision and augmented reality technology, which maps the results of object detection to the AR field, and makes a brave step toward the future technological trend and intelligent application.

Distinct scaling behaviors of giant electrocaloric cooling performance in low-dimensional organic, relaxor and anti-ferroelectrics

Electrocaloric (EC) materials show promise in eco-friendly solid-state refrigeration and integrable on-chip thermal management. While direct measurement of EC thin-films still remains challenging, a generic theoretical framework for quantifying the cooling properties of rich EC materials including normal-, relaxor-, organic- and anti-ferroelectrics is imperative for exploiting new flexible and room-temperature cooling alternatives. Here, we present a versatile theory that combines Master equation with Maxwell relations and analytically relates the macroscopic cooling responses in EC materials with the intrinsic diffuseness of phase transitions and correlation characteristics. Under increased electric fields, both EC entropy and adiabatic temperature changes increase quadratically initially, followed by further linear growth and eventual gradual saturation. The upper bound of entropy change (dS_max) is limited by distinct correlation volumes (V_cr) and transition diffuseness. The linearity between V_cr and the transition diffuseness is emphasized, while dS_max=300 kJ/(K.m3) is obtained for Pb0.8Ba0.2ZrO3. The dS_max in antiferroelectric Pb0.95Zr0.05TiO3, Pb0.8Ba0.2ZrO3 and polymeric ferroelectrics scales proportionally with V_cr^(-2.2), owing to the one-dimensional structural constraint on lattice-scale depolarization dynamics; whereas dS_max in relaxor and normal ferroelectrics scales as dS_max ~ V_cr^(-0.37), which tallies with a dipolar interaction exponent of 2/3 in EC materials and the well-proven fractional dimensionality of 2.5 for ferroelectric domain walls.

Three-dimensional Insight on the Evolution of a Supramolecular Preorganization Complex to Hollow-Structure Carbon Nitride

The supramolecular preorganization approach can be applied to effectively fabricate various morphologies of graphitic carbon nitride(g-CN)with improved photocatalytic activity, while a comprehensive understanding for the morphology evolution from supramolecular aggregates to g-CNs is lacking. Herein, 3D characterizations from electron tomography provide a fundamental insight on the evolution from rod-like melamine-cyanuric acid(MC)complex to hollow-structure g-CN in the thermal polycondensation process. The internal region and a group of surfaces of the rod-like complex initially underwent polycondensation, while the other two groups of surfaces with ~100 nm thickness almost unchanged. With the temperature reached to 550 degree C, the hollow-structure g-CN eventually formed due to most of the internal matter vanishing, and voids arose in the previously unaffected surfaces(edges),resulting in a porous shell structure. Quantitative electron tomography indicates that the key of structure evolution is the differentiated condensation polymerization between edges and inner region of the rod-like MC complex, which is ascribed to a higher dense of surfaces and a lower dense of inner matter with loose, defective orignization.
