Nondegenerate solitons in the integrable fractional coupled Hirota equation

In this paper, based on the nonlinear fractional equations proposed by Ablowitz, Been, and Carr in the sense of Riesz fractional derivative, we explore the fractional coupled Hirota equation and give its explicit form. Unlike the previous nonlinear fractional equations, this type of nonlinear fractional equation is integrable. Therefore, we obtain the fractional $n$-soliton solutions of the fractional coupled Hirota equation by inverse scattering transformation in the reflectionless case. In particular, we analyze the one- and two-soliton solutions of the fractional coupled Hirota equation and prove that the fractional two-soliton can also be regarded as a linear superposition of two fractional single solitons as $|t|\to\infty$. Moreover, under some special constraint, we also obtain the nondegenerate fractional soliton solutions and give a simple analysis for them.

Large order breathers of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation

Multi-soliton and high-order soliton solutions are two type of famous ones in the integrable focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The dynamics of multi-soliton was well known to us since 70s of the last century by the determinant analysis. However, there is few progress on the high-order solitons. In this work, we would like to analyze the large order asymptotics for the high-order breathers, which are special cases of double high-order solitons with the same velocity to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. To analyze the large order dynamics, we first convert the representation of Darboux transformation into a framework of Riemann-Hilbert problem. Then we show that there exist five distinct asymptotic regions by the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method. It is very interesting that a novel genus-three asymptotic region is first found in the large order asymptotics to large high-order breathers, which enriches the dynamic behaviors in the field of large order solitons. All results to the asymptotic analysis are verified by the numerical method.

Phase Characters of Optical Dark Solitons with the Third-order Dispersion and Delayed Nonlinear Response

Dark soliton is usually seen as one of the simplest topological solitons, due to the phase jump across its density dip. We investigate the phase jump properties of dark solitons in a single mode optical fiber with the third-order dispersion and delayed nonlinear response, based on exact analytical solutions of Hirota equation. Our analysis indicates that a single-valley dark soliton (SVDS) can admit two distinct phase jumps at the same velocity, in sharp contrast to the dark soliton with only the second-order dispersion and self-phase modulation, which admits a one-to-one match between the velocity and phase jump. We further uncover the different topological vector potentials underlying the distinct phase jumps. The relations between phase jump and velocity of the SVDS can explain the generation of the previously reported double-valley dark soliton (DVDS). The detailed analysis on the two phase jumps characters of the DVDS with one identical velocity enables us to obtain U-shaped type or double-step type phase distribution. We further explore collision properties of the DVDSs by analyzing their topological phase, which can be considered as the generalization of topological phase (Phys. Rev. E 103, L040204). Strikingly, the inelastic collision can lead to the conversion between the two types of phase distributions for DVDS. The results reveal that inelastic or elastic collision can be judged by analyzing the magnetic monopole fields.

Rational solutions of Painlevé-II equation as Gram determinant

Under the Flaschka-Newell Lax pair, the Darboux transformation for the Painlevé-II equation is constructed by the limiting technique. With the aid of the Darboux transformation, the rational solutions are represented by the Gram determinant, and then we give the large $y$ asymptotics of the determinant and the rational solutions. Finally, the solution of the corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem is obtained from the Darboux matrices.

Darboux transformation and solitonic solution to the coupled complex short pulse equation

The Darboux transformation (DT) for the coupled complex short pulse (CCSP) equation is constructed through the loop group method. The DT is then utilized to construct various exact solutions including bright soliton, dark-soliton, breather and rogue wave solutions to the CCSP equation. In case of vanishing boundary condition (VBC), we perform the inverse scattering analysis to understand the soliton solution better. Breather and rogue wave solutions are constructed in case of non-vanishing boundary condition (NVBC). Moreover, we conduct a modulational instability (MI) analysis based on the method of squared eigenfunctions, whose result confirms the condition for the existence of rogue wave solution.

Measuring the rogue wave pattern triggered from Gaussian perturbations by deep learning

Weak Gaussian perturbations on a plane wave background could trigger lots of rogue waves, due to modulational instability. Numerical simulations showed that these rogue waves seemed to have similar unit structure. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no relative result to prove that these rogue waves have the similar patterns for different perturbations, partly due to that it is hard to measure the rogue wave pattern automatically. In this work, we address these problems from the perspective of computer vision via using deep neural networks. We propose a Rogue Wave Detection Network (RWD-Net) model to automatically and accurately detect RWs on the images, which directly indicates they have the similar computer vision patterns. For this purpose, we herein meanwhile have designed the related dataset, termed as Rogue Wave Dataset-$10$K (RWD-$10$K), which has $10,191$ RW images with bounding box annotations for each RW unit. In our detection experiments, we get $99.29\%$ average precision on the test splits of the RWD-$10$K dataset. Finally, we derive our novel metric, the density of RW units (DRW), to characterize the evolution of Gaussian perturbations and obtain the statistical results on them.

Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation: one-constraint method and lump pattern

The Kadomtsev-Petviashvili reduction method is a crucial method to derive the solitonic solutions of (1+1) dimensional integrable system from high dimensional system. In this work, we explore to use the solutions of lower dimensional system to construct the solutions in the high dimensional one with the Darboux transformation. Especially, we utilize this method to disclose the relationship between the rogue wave and lump solutions. Under one-constraint method, the asymptotic analysis to the lump pattern of Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation is given

Asymptotic analysis of high order soliton for the Hirota equation

In this paper, we mainly analyze the long-time asymptotics of high-order soliton for the Hirota equation. Two different Riemann-Hilbert representations of Darboux matrix with high-order soliton are given to establish the relationships between inverse scattering method and Darboux transformation. The asymptotic analysis with single spectral parameter is derived through the formulas of determinant directly. Furthermore, the long-time asymptotics with $k$ spectral parameters is given by combining the iterated Darboux matrix and the result of high-order soliton with single spectral parameter, which discloses the structure of high-order soliton clearly and is possible to be utilized in the optic experiments.

Large and infinite order solitons of the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation

We study the large order and infinite order soliton of the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equation with the Riemann-Hilbert method. By using the Riemann-Hilbert representation for the high order Darboux dressing matrix, the large order and infinite order solitons can be analyzed directly without using inverse scattering transform. We firstly disclose the asymptotics for large order soliton, which is divided into four different regions -- the elliptic function region, the non-oscillatory region, the exponential and algebraic decay region. We verify the consistence between asymptotic expression and exact solutions by the Darboux dressing method numerically. Moreover, we consider the property and dynamics for infinite order solitons -- a special limitation for the larger order soliton. It is shown that the elliptic function and exponential region will disappear for the infinite order solitons.

Multivalley dark solitons in multicomponent Bose-Einstein condensates with repulsive interactions

We obtain multivalley dark soliton solutions with asymmetric or symmetric profiles in multicomponent repulsive Bose-Einstein condensates by developing the Darboux transformation method. We demonstrate that the width-dependent parameters of solitons significantly affect the velocity ranges and phase jump regions of multivalley dark solitons, in sharp contrast to scalar dark solitons. For double-valley dark solitons, we find that the phase jump is in the range $[0,2π]$, which is quite different from that of the usual single-valley dark soliton. Based on our results, we argue that the phase jump of an $n$-valley dark soliton could be in the range $[0,nπ]$, supported by our analysis extending up to five-component condensates. The interaction between a double-valley dark soliton and a single-valley dark soliton is further investigated, and we reveal a striking collision process in which the double-valley dark soliton is transformed into a breather after colliding with the single-valley dark soliton. Our analyses suggest that this breather transition exists widely in the collision processes involving multivalley dark solitons. The possibilities for observing these multivalley dark solitons in related Bose-Einstein condensates experiments are discussed.

Higher-order vector Peregrine solitons and asymptotic estimates for the multi-component nonlinear Schrödinger equations

We first report the first- and higher-order vector Peregrine solitons (alias rational rogue waves) for the any multi-component NLS equations based on the loop group theory, an explicit (n + 1)-multiple eigenvalue of a characteristic polynomial of degree (n + 1) related to the condition of Benjamin-Feir instability, and inverse functions. Particularly, these vector rational rogue waves are parity-time symmetric for some parameter constraints. A systematic and effective approach is proposed to study the asymptotic behaviors of these vector rogue waves such that the decompositions of rogue waves are related to the so-called governing polynomials, which pave a powerful way in the study of vector rogue wave structures of the multi-component integrable systems. The vector rogue waves with maximal amplitudes can be determined via the parameter vectors, which is interesting and useful in the multi-component physical systems.

Parity-time-symmetric vector rational rogue wave solutions in any n-component nonlinear Schrödinger models

The extreme events are investigated for an $n$-component nonlinear Schrödinger ($n$-NLS) system in the focusing Kerr-like nonlinear media, which appears in many physical fields. We report and discuss the novel multi-parametric families of vector rational rogue wave (RW) solutions featuring the parity-time (PT) symmetry, which are characterized by non-identical boundary conditions for the components, and consistent with the degeneracy of $n$ branches of Benjamin-Feir instability. Explicit examples of PT-symmetric vector RWs are presented. Some parameter constraints can make some components generate the RWs with high amplitudes due to many-body resonant interactions.Effect of a non-integrable deformation of the model on the excitation of vector RWs is also discussed. These results will be useful to design the RW experiments in multi-component physical systems.

A focusing and defocusing semi-discrete complex short pulse equation and its varioius soliton solutions

In this paper, we are concerned with a a semi-discrete complex short pulse (CSP) equation of both focusing and defocusing types, which can be viewed as an analogue to the Ablowitz-Ladik (AL) lattice in the ultra-short pulse regime. By using a generalized Darboux transformation method, various solutions to this newly integrable semi-discrete equation are studied with both zero and nonzero boundary conditions. To be specific, for the focusing CSP equation, the multi-bright solution (zero boundary condition), multi-breather and high-order rogue wave solutions (nonzero boudanry conditions) are derived, while for the defocusing CSP equation with nonzero boundary condition, the multi-dark soliton solution is constructed. We further show that, in the continuous limit, all the solutions obtained converge to the ones for its original CSP equation (see Physica D, 327 13-29 and Phys. Rev. E 93 052227)

Multi-breathers and high order rogue waves for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the elliptic function background

We construct the multi-breather solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) on the background of elliptic functions by the Darboux transformation, and express them in terms of the determinant of theta functions. The dynamics of the breathers in the presence of various kinds of backgrounds such as dn, cn, and non-trivial phase-modulating elliptic solutions are presented, and their behaviors dependent on the effect of backgrounds are elucidated. We also determine the asymptotic behaviors for the multi-breather solutions with different velocities in the limit $t\to\pm\infty$, where the solution in the neighborhood of each breather tends to the simple one-breather solution. Furthermore, we exactly solve the linearized NLSE using the squared eigenfunction and determine the unstable spectra for elliptic function background. By using them, the Akhmediev breathers arising from these modulational instabilities are plotted and their dynamics are revealed. Finally, we provide the rogue-wave and higher-order rogue-wave solutions by taking the special limit of the breather solutions at branch points and the generalized Darboux transformation. The resulting dynamics of the rogue waves involves rich phenomena: depending on the choice of the background and possessing different velocities relative to the background. We also provide an example of the multi- and higher-order rogue wave solution.

Extreme Superposition: Rogue Waves of Infinite Order and the Painlevé-III Hierarchy

We study the fundamental rogue wave solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the limit of large order. Using a recently-proposed Riemann-Hilbert representation of the rogue wave solution of arbitrary order $k$, we establish the existence of a limiting profile of the rogue wave in the large-$k$ limit when the solution is viewed in appropriate rescaled variables capturing the near-field region where the solution has the largest amplitude. The limiting profile is a new particular solution of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the rescaled variables --- the rogue wave of infinite order --- which also satisfies ordinary differential equations with respect to space and time. The spatial differential equations are identified with certain members of the Painlevé-III hierarchy. We compute the far-field asymptotic behavior of the near-field limit solution and compare the asymptotic formulæ with the exact solution with the help of numerical methods for solving Riemann-Hilbert problems. In a certain transitional region for the asymptotics the near field limit function is described by a specific globally-defined tritronquée solution of the Painlevé-II equation. These properties lead us to regard the rogue wave of infinite order as a new special function.

New classes of solutions in the Coupled PT Symmetric Nonlocal Nonlinear Schrodinger Equations with Four Wave Mixing

We investigate generalized nonlocal coupled nonlinear Schroedinger equation containing Self-Phase Modulation, Cross-Phase Modulation and Four-Wave Mixing involving nonlocal interaction. By means of Darboux transformation, we obtained a family of exact breathers and solitons including the Peregrine soliton, Kuznetsov-Ma breather, Akhmediev breather along with all kinds of soliton-soliton and breather-soliton interactions. We analyze and emphasize the impact of the four-wave mixing on the nature and interaction of the solutions. We found that the presence of Four-Wave Mixing converts a two-soliton solution into an Akhmediev breather. In particular, the inclusion of Four-Wave Mixing results in the generation of a new solution which is spatially and temporally periodic called "Soliton (Breather) lattice".

Collisional Dynamics of Solitons in the Coupled PT symmetric Nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger equations

We investigate the focusing coupled PT-symmetric nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger equation employing Darboux transformation approach. We find a family of exact solutions including pairs of Bright-Bright, Dark-Dark and Bright-Dark solitons in addition to solitary waves. We show that one can convert bright bound state onto a dark bound state in a two-soliton solution by selectively fine tuning the amplitude dependent parameter. We also show that the energy in each mode remains conserved unlike the celebrated Manakov model. We also characterize the behaviour of the soliton solutions in detail. We emphasize that the above phenomenon occurs due to the nonlocality of the model.

Modulational instability and homoclinic orbit solutions in vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation

Modulational instability has been used to explain the formation of breather and rogue waves qualitatively. In this paper, we show modulational instability can be used to explain the structure of them in a quantitative way. We develop a method to derive general forms for Akhmediev breather and rogue wave solutions in a $N$-component nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The existence condition for each pattern is clarified clearly. Moreover, the general multi-high-order rogue wave solutions and multi-Akhmediev breather solutions for $N$-component nonlinear Schrödinger equations are constructed. The results further deepen our understanding on the quantitative relations between modulational instability and homoclinic orbits solutions.
