Khovanov homology and the Involutive Heegaard Floer homology of branched double covers

We use involutive Heegaard Floer homology to extend the Ozsv\'ath-Szab\'o branched double cover spectral sequence relating a version of Khovanov homology and the Heegaard Floer homology of branched double covers. Our main tools are Lipshitz, Ozsv\'ath, and Thurston's reconstruction of the Ozsv\'ath-Szab\'o spectral sequence using bordered Floer homology and Hendricks and Lipshitz's surgery exact triangle in involutive bordered Floer homology.

A note on knot Floer thickness and the dealternating number

In this note, we give a short proof that knot Floer thickness is a lower bound on the dealternating number of a knot. The result is originally due to work of Abe and Kishimoto, Lowrance, and Turaev. Our proof is a modification of the Stipsicz-Szabo approach using Kauffman states to show that thickness bounds the minimal number of bad domains in a knot diagram.

More concordance homomorphisms from knot Floer homology

We define an infinite family of linearly independent, integer-valued smooth concordance homomorphisms. Our homomorphisms are explicitly computable and rely on local equivalence classes of knot Floer complexes over the ring $\mathbb{F}[U, V]/(UV=0)$. We compare our invariants to other concordance homomorphisms coming from knot Floer homology, and discuss applications to topologically slice knots, concordance genus, and concordance unknotting number.

Homology concordance and knot Floer homology

We study the homology concordance group of knots in integer homology three-spheres which bound integer homology four-balls. Using knot Floer homology, we construct an infinite number of $\mathbb{Z}$-valued, linearly independent homology concordance homomorphisms which vanish for knots coming from $S^3$. This shows that the homology concordance group modulo knots coming from $S^3$ contains an infinite-rank summand. The techniques used here generalize the classification program established in previous papers regarding the local equivalence group of knot Floer complexes over $\mathbb{F}[U, V]/(UV)$. Our results extend this approach to complexes defined over a broader class of rings.

A combinatorial description of the LOSS Legendrian knot invariant

In this note, we observe that the hat version of the Heegaard Floer invariant of Legendrian knots in contact three-manifolds defined by Lisca-Ozsvath-Stipsicz-Szabo can be combinatorially computed. We rely on Plamenevskaya's combinatorial description of the Heegaard Floer contact invariant.

Braids, fibered knots, and concordance questions

Given a knot in $S^3$, one can associate to it a surface diffeomorphism in two different ways. First, an arbitrary knot in $S^{3}$ can be represented by braids, which can be thought of as diffeomorphisms of punctured disks. Second, if the knot is fibered -- that is, if its complement fibers over $S^1$ -- one can consider the monodromy of the fibration. One can ask to what extent properties of these surface diffeomorphisms dictate topological properties of the corresponding knot. In this article we collect observations, conjectures, and questions addressing this, from both the braid perspective and the fibered knot perspective. We particularly focus on exploring whether properties of the surface diffeomorphisms relate to four-dimensional topological properties of knots such as the slice genus.

Comparing Bennequin-type inequalities

The slice-Bennequin inequality states an upper bound for the self-linking number of a knot in terms of its four-ball genus. The $s$-Bennequin and $τ$-Bennequin inequalities provide upper bounds on the self-linking number of a knot in terms of the Rasmussen $s$ invariant and the Ozsváth-Szabó $τ$ invariant. We exhibit examples in which the difference between self-linking number and four-ball genus grows arbitrarily large, whereas the $s$-Bennequin inequality and the $τ$-Bennequin inequality are both sharp.

On the Upsilon invariant of fibered knots and right-veering open books

We give a sufficient condition using the Ozsváth-Stipsicz-Szabó concordance invariant Upsilon for the monodromy of the open book decomposition of a fibered knot to be right-veering. As an application, we generalize a result of Baker on ribbon concordances between fibered knots. Following Baker, we conclude that either fibered knots $K$ in $S^{3}$ satisfying that $Υ'(t) = -g(K)$ for some $t \in [0,1)$ are unique in their smooth concordance classes or there exists a counterexample to the Slice-Ribbon Conjecture.

Annular link invariants from the Sarkar-Seed-Szabó spectral sequence

For a link in a thickened annulus $A \times I$, we define a $\mathbb{Z} \oplus \mathbb{Z} \oplus \mathbb{Z}$ filtration on Sarkar-Seed-Szabó's perturbation of the geometric spectral sequence. The filtered chain homotopy type is an invariant of the isotopy class of the annular link. From this, we define a two-dimensional family of annular link invariants and study their behavior under cobordisms. In the case of annular links obtained from braid closures, we obtain a necessary condition for braid quasipositivity and a sufficient condition for right-veeringness, as well as Bennequin-type inequalities.

A refinement of the Ozsváth-Szabó large integer surgery formula and knot concordance

We compute the knot Floer filtration induced by a cable of the meridian of a knot in the manifold obtained by large integer surgery along the knot. We give a formula in terms of the original knot Floer complex of the knot in the three-sphere. As an application, we show that a knot concordance invariant of Hom can equivalently be defined in terms of filtered maps on the Heegaard Floer homology groups induced by the two-handle attachment cobordism of surgery along a knot.

An infinite-rank summand of the homology cobordism group

We show that the three-dimensional homology cobordism group admits an infinite-rank summand. It was previously known that the homology cobordism group contains a $\mathbb{Z}^\infty$-subgroup and a $\mathbb{Z}$-summand. Our proof proceeds by introducing an algebraic variant of the involutive Heegaard Floer package of Hendricks-Manolescu and Hendricks-Manolescu-Zemke. This is inspired by an analogous argument in the setting of knot concordance due to the second author.
